Donald Dean Beach, 72, of Attica, died Thursday (Sept. 20, 2001).
He was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Detroit, to Levi and Nellie (Bugh) Beach. He married Kathryn Gibbons in Pontiac on Oct. 21, 1947.
He was employed by Massey Ferguson before retiring in 1985. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Mesick and Marion as well as Simcoe Canada.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of Attica; daughters, Linda (Howard) Byerley of Missouri, Judith (Ronald) Stitt of Jackson, Susan (James) Martin of Madison Heights, Bettie (Roy) Kurkowski-Tackett of Leonard, Lori (Jay) Bender of Attica; son Donald (Karen) of Ortonville; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Randall of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Nellie Beach; sister, Audrey Walker and brother, Myron.
Funeral services were held Monday (Sept. 24, 2001) at Muir Brother Funeral Home, Imlay City. Rev. Colin Stover officiated. Burial was in White Chapel cemetery, Troy.

Mary M. Herfert Posey

Romeo
Mary M. Herfert Posey, 93, of Romeo, died Sept. 19, 2001 at Reamer Meadows in Oregon Township, Lapeer.
She was born July 14, 1908, in Romeo, to William and Anna (Werderman) Trieloff.
She was a life member of St. John Lutheran Church, Romeo O.E.S. No. 19, a member of Women's Auxiliary of the Romeo Fire Department, a member of the Michigan Association of Extension Homemakers and a charter member of the Romeo Historical Society.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Bonnie) of Metamora, extended family Dave (Carol), Doug (Vicki); grandchildren, Jeremy (Cynthia) of Flint, Alyson of Marina Del Ray, Calif. and Erika of Metamora.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Herfert in 1973 and husband, Lynn Posey in 1988; brothers, Albert, Herbert, William and Carl Trieloff.

Funeral services were held Saturday (Sept. 22, 2001) at St. John Lutheran Church, Romeo. Rev. Pastor Mark W. Evans officiated. Burial was in Romeo cemetery.

Charles F. English, 84, of Lapeer, died Monday (Sept. 17, 2001).
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Janet (Michael) Thomas of Clarkston, Charles (Christine) of Lapeer, Cecelia (Robert) Wiar of Clarkston, Patricia (John) Knorp of Redford, Wayne (Christine) of Troy and Mark (Karen) of Lapeer; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Earl (Martina) of Clarkston.

Dorothea Mae Bernatzky

Dorothea Mae Dotty Bernatzky, 80, of Lapeer (formerly of St. James, N.Y.), died Sept. 16, 2001.
She was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Colonia, N.J., to Edwin F. and Violet May (Lawton) White. She married Walter Frank Bernatzky in Astoria, N.Y. on Sept. 4, 1941.
Mrs. Bernatzky was a food server and custodian for the Smithtown Community Schools in New York for many years. She taught Sunday School most of her life. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer.
She is survived by her children, Gail Rising of Texas, Laurie (Ray) Sturm of Lapeer and Warren (Rene) of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Tracy DuPriest, Sherri DuPriest, Becky (Jonathan) Kaiser, Leah Sturm, Mara Sturm and Brian. She is also survived by many special cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in October of 2000 and her parents.

Charles W. Smith, 83, of Lapeer, died Sept. 15, 2001.
He was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Deerfield Twp., to Russell and Eva (Fitch) Ward.
He was a life long farmer.
He is survived by his son, Richard (Virginia) of Lapeer; daughters, Jan (Don) Cranick of Lapeer and Norma of Lapeer; grandsons, Tim Cranick, Russ Cranick, Cindy and Douglas Hitts of Davison, Rick and Kurt; many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth and grandson, Ronnie.
Funeral services were held Wednesday (Sept. 19, 2001) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. Pastor Jim Paige officiated. Burial was in the Stiles cemetery, Lapeer.

Vern Edward Evans

Brown City
Vern Edward Evans, 74, of Brown City, died Saturday (Sept. 15, 2001) in Flint.
He was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Brown City, to Vern J. and Beatrice Evans. He married Beverly Russell in Indiana on Sept. 23, 1950.
He attended Abbott Country School. He worked for Pontiac Truck and Coach and retired after 15 years. He also worked at Almont Manufacturing for many years. He was a member of the Attica Masonic Lodge and Brown City VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, Vern Jr. (Kim) of Brown City and Randy (Cherie) of Brown City; 5 granddaughters, one great-grandson; sisters, Jean Jensen and Vera Johnson; half-sister, Ruth Ann Parks; step-brother, Jack Clarkson; step-sister, Virginia Bryan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Goodland Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Krause and sister, Lela Spencer.

Lillian A. Perich

Saginaw
Lillian A. Perich, 84, of Saginaw (formerly of Detroit and Lapeer), died Sept. 14, 2001 at Edgewood Assisted Living Center.
She was born May 12, 1917. She married Michael W. Perich on Sept. 14, 1940.
She died while celebrating her 61st Wedding Anniversary with her loving husband. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She had been a seamstress, an avid card player and enjoyed many hobbies.
She is survived by her husband Michael; children, Sandra (Tony) Caputo of Shelby Township, William (Terry) of Carbondale, Colo., Deanna (Donald) Popielarz of Saginaw; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sue Dean of Warren, Dolores (Ted) Zawacki of New Port Richey, Fla.; brother, Chester (Mary) Lecznar of Warren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Jackie Grunder and brother, Henry Lecznar.

Funeral Mass was held Tuesday (Sept. 18, 2001) at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Robert Konopa, O.F.M. officiated. Burial was in St. Andrew cemetery.

Patricia Rose Fackler

Imlay City
Patricia Rose Fackler, 3 months, of Imlay City, died Thursday (Sept. 13, 2001).
She was born June 21, 2001 in Lapeer.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Elizabeth Fackler, brothers, Tony of Lapeer and Aaron of Imlay City; sisters, Kathleen of Imlay City; Autumn of Imlay City; grandfather, Glenn Bud of Metamora/Attica; great-grandparents, Glenn Sr., of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Lillian Herrin of Detroit; several aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Patricia Rose.
Funeral services were held Monday (Sept. 17, 2001) at St. Cornelius Catholic Church, Dryden. Father Wayne Ureel officiated. Burial was in Attica Township cemetery, Attica.

Arthur W. Bartholomew
Died: Wednesday, September 12, 2001
Lapeer
Arthur W. Bartholomew, 80, of Lapeer, died Sept. 12, 2001 at Genesys Regional Center at Health Park.
He was born July 22, 1921, in Adrian, to Dana W. and Edna (Piper) Bartholomew.
He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army, serving in Africa and Italy. He received three Battle Stars for Infantry Combat in Italy. He was a Claim and Risk Investigator for insurance companies, serving Genesee and Lapeer Counties for 20 years. He was also a car salesman. He was a Conference Speaker for the Michigan Council on Alcohol Problems in churches and schools for 10 years before retiring due to health problems. He was very proud of his heritage and his parents who were the first owners of the Lyric Theatre of Lapeer. His mother worked for A.C. Spark Plug. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his dear friend, Ada Carley of Flint; cousin, Aletha Bolinger of Flint; friends, Patricia McAllister and Alice Jean Frank.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lanette.
Funeral services were held Monday (Sept. 17, 2001) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. With long time friends, Rev. Merlyn Smith and Rev. Aletha Bolinger officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery of Lapeer with a military graveside service under the auspices of the American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard.
