Glenn Goss, 82, of Attica, died Aug. 31, 2001.
He was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Arcadia Township, to John and Milish (Evans) Goss.
He married Emma H. Heck.
Mr. Goss served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a carpenter all his life, part owner of Mer-J Construction in Lapeer, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Glenn enjoyed tinkering, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Emma of Attica; children, Barbara Bertram of Lapeer; Bonnie (Jack) Hildner of Riverton, Wyo., Roger (Valda) of Lapeer; grandchildren, Cheryl, Marilyn, Anne, Susan, Michael, Paul and Chad; great-grandchildren, Ben, Beth, Justin, Nicholas, Zachery, Bree, Kiria, Rolane, Meredith, Donald and Joel; sister, Rose (Ken) Shepherd of Imlay City.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Donald Bertram; siblings, Jessie Zuhlke, Fay Miller, Ciel Goss and Charles Goss; and his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (Sept. 4, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Rev. Terry Euper officiated. Burial was in Imlay Township cemetery, Imlay City, with a military graveside service under the auspices of the American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard.

Arnold Steve Godo

Arnold Arnie Steve Godo, 67, of Marysville (formerly of Imlay City), died Aug. 31, 2001.
He was born July 21, 1934, in Imlay City, to Steve and Mary Jane (Wideman) Godo. He married Carolyn Mae Miles in Almont on Aug. 3, 1954.
He graduated from Imlay City High School, class of 1952. He was employed by Capac Metal Products, Core Dryer Ship as a Pattern Builder and as a milk man. He was always actively involved with his children's high school athletic careers.
He is survived by his wife and companion of 47 years, Caroyln of Marysville; daughters, Polly Collins of Marysville, Jill (Tom) Schaefer of Capac; sons, Dan (Sally) of Imlay City, Steve (Sandra) of North Branch; grandchildren, Nathan, Geoffrey, Nicholas Collins, Nicole Collins, Neil Collins, Lacy, Meagan, Beth Schaefer and Ian Schaefer; sisters, Evelyn (Vern) Stoldt of Imlay City, Shirley Anspaugh of Marysville; sister-in-law, Joy of Almont.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ron; brother-in-law, Paul Anspaugh.

Funeral services were held Tuesday (Sept. 4, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. Pastor James Sheldrake officiated. Burial was in Imlay Township cemetery.

Simon Alferez
Died: Friday, August 31, 2001
Imlay City
The Rev. Simon Alferez, 83, of Imlay City, died Aug. 31, 2001.
He was born Feb. 16, 1918, in Witmore, Texas, to Avaristo and Maria (Jemenez Palos) Alferez. He married Martha Morales Urbina in Candalin, Texas on Aug. 31, 1942.
He was Pastor of the former Calvary Baptist Church in Imlay City.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, John Urbina; sister-in-law, Lucy Casper and Maria Florez.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha in 1987; his parents, Avaristo and Maria Alferez; brothers, Manuel and Vincent; sisters, Chavela Perez, Juanita Gonzales and Betty.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (Sept. 4, 2001) at the Assembly of God Church, Imlay City. Pastor Jeffrey S. Krist Pastor, Angel Ojeda and Lee R. Fick officiated. Burial was in Imlay Township cemetery, Imlay City.

John Kenneth Ritchey
Died: Thursday, August 30, 2001
Flushing
John Kenneth Ritchey, 27, of Flushing, died Thursday (Aug. 30, 2001).
He was born Feb. 5, 1974, in Flint, to Joe and Zoe (Kasson) Ritchey. He married Heather Burgess in Grand Blanc on July 25,1999.
He died after battling the ups and downs of cancer since 1996. John was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He graduated from Lake Fenton High School in 1993. He enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, water sports, fishing and boating. He was an avid train buff and collector.
He is survived by his wife, Heather of Flushing; parents, Joe and Zoe of Grand Blanc; sister, Kathy (Chad) Chapman of Flint; nieces Kelly and Erica Palmer and Jennifer Chapman, all of Flint; parents-in-law, John and Karen Burgess of Lapeer; brother-in-law, Thomas (Emily) Burgess of Denver, Colo.; sister-in-law, Holly (Kirk) Woods of Owosso; brother-in-law, Timothy Burgess of Lapeer; many aunts, uncles, cousins, Internet family, friends and kitten, Tigger.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Cal and Ruth Kasson and John and Elizabeth Ritchey.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan.
Funeral services were held Friday (Aug. 31, 2001) at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Pastor Clifford Bira officiated. Burial was in Sunset Hills cemetery, Flushing.

Robert J. Engelman

Robert J. Bob Engelman, 61, of Lapeer, died Aug. 29, 2001.
He was born Dec. 10, 1939, in Detroit, to John and Irene (Heimes) Engelman.
He graduated from North Branch High School in 1957. He lived in the North Branch and Lapeer areas most of his life.
He is survived by his son, Douglas of Lapeer and brother, John of Lapeer.
A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday (Sept. 11, 2001) at Immaculate Conception Church, Lapeer. Cremation has taken place. Burial in Mount Loretto cemetery following mass.
Earl C. Miller
Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2001
Oxford
Earl C. Miller, 62, of Oxford, died Aug. 28, 2001.
He was born July 6, 1939, in Oxford, to James B. and Viola A. (Young) Miller. He married Donna Butler in Pontiac in 1958.
Mr. Miller was a member of the Oxford Free Methodist Church. He most recently worked as a greeter at the Bass Pro Shop and formerly drove truck for Sutherland Oil/Thompson Oil Distributor in Oxford. Earl enjoyed hunting, watching football, but above all else, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Oxford; son, Earl Jr. (Kathleen) of Lake Orion; daughters, Penny (Bruce) Griffiths of Lake Orion, Karen (Clarence) Harris of North Branch; 8 grandchildren; siblings, Sharon Hill of Florida, Arthur (good friend, Carol TImmer) of Lake Orion; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Elaine Young Miller on July 29, 2001.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Free Methodist Church or Covenant Hills Camp of Otisville.
Funeral services were held Friday (Aug. 31, 2001) at the Oxford Free Methodist Church. Rev. Bruce Lawton and Rev. Harvey Fry officiated. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Oakwood.

Grant Carter
Died: Saturday, August 18, 2001
Attica
Grant Carter, 90, of Attica, died Saturday (Aug. 18, 2001) at Genesys Hospice - Goodrich.
He was born July 25, 1911, in Attica, to Clyde and Hazel (Grey Ferns) Carter. He married Leona Bell Wilson in Lapeer on May 26, 1936.
He lived most of his life in the Attica area. He graduated from Lapeer High School. He had been employed for over 30 years at Flint Local 533 in Sheet Metal. He retired from Sheet Metal Construction in 1976.
He is survived by daughters, Frances (Phil) Madeline of Attica and Carole Lopez of Imlay City; son, George (Lorraine) of Orion; grandchildren, Jeff (Lisa), Cathy (Shawn) Dufrense, Mark (Cathy) Madeline, Lori (Mike) Bailey, Jill Clark and Kirk (Caroline) Scully; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Bell (Wilson) Carter; sister, Ferne Brinker; brother, Bruce; and grandson, Grant Talieau.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday (Aug. 22, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. Pastor Cliff Schroeder will officiate. Burial will take place in the Attica Township cemetery, Attica.

Shirley Ann Atherton
Died: Saturday, August 18, 2001
Brown City
Shirley Ann Atherton, 65, of Brown City, died Saturday (Aug. 18, 2001) at Mercy Hospital.
She was born June 13, 1936, in Flint, to Hiram and Voilet (Spates) Stratton. She married William E. Atherton in Caro on Nov. 8, 1955.
She was an Imlay City High School Graduate as well as a home maker.
She is survived by her husband, William of Brown City; daughters, Mary of Brown City, Emma of Brown City, Marsha of Northville; brother, Walter (Waneta) Stratton of South Carolina; sisters, Dorothy Crider of Holly, Jennie Leffel of Lapeer; grandchildren, Rosie, Holly and Robert.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Lyle in 1962 and William in 1990; sister, Bertha Alexander; brothers, Bob Stratton, Harold Stratton and Jack Stratton.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday (Aug. 22, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Colin Stover will officiate. Burial will be in Watertown cemetery, Fostoria.
