Betty Marie May, 87, formerly of North Adams, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011. She was born January 2, 1924 in Hillsdale to Jay & Opal (Patterson) Rumsey. She was married January 2, 1943 Hugh May and he preceded her in death Nov. 10, 2007.

Betty was a former real estate agent for United Farm Reality. She was a graduate of Hillsdale High School and a resident of the Hillsdale area all her life. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving is a son, Jeff (Lydia) May of Allen; 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren; a sister, Lenore Tadsen of Defiance, Ohio and a brother Ray (Doris) Rumsey of Pittsford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son David in 2006 and five brothers and sisters.

Graveside memorial services for Betty May will be Saturday, February 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at Lakeview cemetery in Hillsdale with Pastor Patti Beckman officiating. There will be no visitation or calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale County.

March 31, 1934 - January 11, 2011

Alice J. Blount, 76, of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at her home under the loving care of her family. She was born March 31, 1934 in Delta, Ohio to Everett & Viola (Conklin) Coppeler. She was married October 29, 1966 to Larry Blount and he survives.

Alice is also survived by 2 daughters, Lydia (Jeff) May of Allen and Resa (Charles) Clayton of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee; son, William (Jenny) Bishop of Reading; 9 grandchildren; and a brother, James (Ada) Coppeler of Columbus, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson and a brother.

At her request, cremation will take place. There will be no services or calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale County.

George T. Whitson, 89, of Hillsdale passed away Friday, December 17, 2010 at Drews Place Bacon Street in Hillsdale. He was born July 5, 1921 in Rushville, Illinois to Hugh W. & Hazel (Spencer) Whitson. He was married April 22, 1950 to Catherine Isley and she survives.

George was a graduate of Hillsdale High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired as a fire fighter for the City of Hillsdale and was a member of Hillsdale American Legion Post #53. George was an avid walker and golfer, achieving two holes-in-one and continuing to play at age 87.

Surviving besides his wife Kate are a daughter, Kris (Harry) Giddens of Michigan Center; two sons, Richard Whitson of Hillsdale and Alan (Janis) Whitson of Redondo Beach, California; a daughter-in-law, Jean Whitson of Bowling Green, Ohio; a brother, Glenn Whitson of Edon, Ohio; five grandchildren, Tamara, Sara, Andrew, George and Harrison; and many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eric; a brother, Hugh Jr.; and two sisters, Susan and Mary Ellen.

Funeral services for George T. Whitson will be held Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Rev. Patti Beckman officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove cemetery, Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday from 6-8 p.m and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, Drews Place Bacon Street or Hospice of Hillsdale County.

Gary F. Camburn
February 28, 1950 - December 4, 2010

Gary Camburn, 60, of Morenci passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at home. He was born on February 28, 1950, in Morenci. On July 14, 1973, in Adrian he married Suzanne Lockwood and she survives.

Gary was a graduate of the Morenci High School class of 1968, and furthered his education at Elkhart College in Indiana, earning a Laboratory Technician degree. He worked at the Morenci Hospital until it closed and was then transfered to Herrick Hospital in July of 2007, having a total of thirty nine years of service. Gary was a member of the Morenci Sportsman Club, the NRA and the American Trap Shooter Association. In 2001, Gary earned the number one position in the state of Michigan, winning ATA Michigan Handicap Open class AA shooting 200 straight. He loved his Harley and was proud of his last trip to Florida which included the dragon at Deal's Gap.

Besides his wife, Suzanne, Gary is survived by two sons, Zachery Camburn of White Lake, and Nathan (Kristen) Camburn of Deland, Florida; and two grandsons, Hunter and Ryder (due in January of 2011). Gary was preceded in death by his parents, William & Irene Camburn.

Funeral service will be on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 3:00 PM at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 1:00 PM until service time.

Alice L. Sutherland
April 25, 1917 - December 18, 2010

Our beloved mother, Alice Sutherland, left us to be with our father on Saturday, December 18, 2010. She was a long time resident of the Morenci area. Alice was born on April 25, 1917, in Onsted to Albert & Almeta (Hartzog) Williams. On March 15, 1934, she married C.W. Sutherland Jr. in Pittsford. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1989.

Alice worked at Peter Stamping in Fayette, Ohio, where she retired after 18 years. In that time she also raised eight grandchildren. After a short retirement she went back to work at Mike's Pizza Pro in Morenci for 11 more years, then worked for Maid For You for three more years finally retiring for good at the age of 84. She was a long time member of the Morenci American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #368. She loved going to the horse races with her grandson, Gene. They were always going places together didn't matter wherever she wanted to go he was there for her.

Together Alice and C.W. Jr. had five children, Janice (Doug) Hawkins of Ruskin, Florida, Barb (John) Wall of Addison, Mace (Vera) Sutherland of Ruskin, Florida, Russell (Maxine) Sutherland of Morenci, and Gary (Sue) Sutherland of Morenci; thirty eight grandchildren; forty one great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Smith and Claudine Cox; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, C.W. Jr. of 54 years, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Russell, Berdall and Athal Williams; a sister, Doris Griffith; and a grandson, Rick Bender.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. Aden Porter officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation on Monday from 5 until 8 PM.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Morenci American Legion or to the Morenci United Methodist Church.

Robert D. Long

SUN CITY, Ariz. — Robert D. Long, 57, beloved husband of Kathryne and father to Mrs. Erin Brook Flosman, Garrett Douglas and Nathan Andrew, passed away in Sun City, Ariz., Nov. 17, 1999.
He was a retired letter carrier in Arizona for the U.S. Postal Service and an Army veteran. He was a member of the American Postal Workers Union and an honorary coach at Peoria High School.
He was born in Angola, Ind., on Oct. 16, 1942, to Robert Long and Carolyn Long Brook.
His is also survived by a sister, Carol Shiery of Coldwater; and two brothers, Don Brook of Coldwater and Lloyd Long of Mesa, Ariz.
Bob was a 1960 graduate of Coldwater High School and a past Exalted Ruler of the Coldwater Elks.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Sunland Lakeside Chapel in Sun City, Ariz.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 9034 N. 23rd Ave., suite 8, Phoenix, Ariz., 85021-2850.

Doris Gould, 83, of Addison passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was born on October 16, 1924, in Weston the daughter of Milford "John" & Helen (Foster) Blood. On May 1, 1942, in Newport Kentucky, she married Robert Gould and he survives.

Doris has lived in Addison for the past ten years moving from Texas. She was employed at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian as a Phyical Therapist.

Besides her husband, Robert, Doris is survived by two daughters, Joyce (James) Sampson of British Columbia, Canada and Linda (Dave) White of Columbus, Ohio; one son, Hal Robert Gould of Pinckney; seven grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Anna Glodine Gordon; and two brothers, Foster and Joseph Blood.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at 1:00 P.M. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation on Friday from 6 until 8 P.M.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Sally R. Talbot

MIDLAND, Mich. — Sally R. Talbot, 83, passed away Nov. 25, 1999, in Midland.
Sally was born July 4, 1916, in Canada, the daughter of Charles and Eva Emmrich. Mrs. Talbot had resided in Harrison since 1988, moving from Quincy, Mich. The former Sally Emmrich was married to David J. Talbot Oct. 6, 1950, in Bay City.
Surviving are her husband, David of Harrison; two sons, Thomas Paine of Harrison and Peter Talbot and wife Glenna of Quincy; four daughters, Barbara Morse and husband Bill of Farwell, Marlene Bartel and husband Robert of Farmland, Ind., Carole Richards and husband Leonard of Mesa, Ariz. and Candy Rumons and husband Dave of Mesa, Ariz.; an adopted son, Anthony Teszlewica of Harrison; two adopted daughters, Kathy Napp and Debbie Maxwell, both of Harrison; 28 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Erma Gibson of Midland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Joyce and Sandy; and a grandson, Mark Banaszak.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at 11 a.m. from Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison, Mich., with Father Jerome Niedermier officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Plains cemetery, Harrison, Mich.

Bessie Pfost-Webb

BATAVIA TWP. — Bessie Pfost-Webb, 99, of Coldwater, died Nov. 25, 1999, in Batavia Twp., Mich.
She was born Nov. 20, 1900, in Avalon Twp., Mich., to A. Glenn and Mary (Brown) Lockwood. She was a homemaker.
She married Everett W. Pfost Nov. 18, 1920, in Coldwater. That marriage lasted 56 years, and Mr. Pfost died in 1977. She then married Earl Webb on Sept. 15, 1988. He died in 1998.
She was well-known for her wonderful personal letters to friends and loved ones.
She is survived by two daughters, Edith M. (Cecil) Tice of Bronson; Ruth A. (Norman) Martin of Elgin, Texas; 2 sons, Neil E. (Evelyn) Pfost of Tehachapi, Calif., and Lee A. (Marlene) Pfost of Dragon Lake Shore, Coldwater.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Everett Pfost in 1977 and Earl Webb in 1998; a daughter, Enid Pfost in 1929; a son, Ralph Pfost in 1987; a son, Benjamin Pfost in 1990; 2 grandsons and 1 great-grandson.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29 at the Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home with Pastor Ludwig officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery in Coldwater.
Memorials may be given to the Branch District Library.
Arrangements are by the Putnam Funeral Home, 517-278-2311.

ELKHART, Ind. — Sabina Jean Nowak, 83, of Elkhart, Ind., died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at the East Lake Nursing and Rehab Center in Elkhart.
Funeral Mass will be Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bronson. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. The Rosary will be at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Irvin Swift

BRONSON — Irvin Swift, 68, of Bronson, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Jarrye Smith

BATTLE CREEK — Jarrye Smith, 85, of Athens, Mich., died Jan. 13, 2000, at Heartland Nursing Home in Battle Creek.
