Grace E. Lennard, 80, of Hillsdale, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009, at her home. She was born June 3, 1928 in Temperance, Michigan to Ross and Evelyn (Eversole) LaPointe. She was married June 26, 1948 to Gene Lennard and he survives.

Grace was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale. She was better known as the "strawberry lady". She was a farmer's wife for 60 years and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for 30 years.

Surviving Grace besides her husband Gene are 2 daughters, Judy (Ray) Domire of Delaware, Ohio and Cathy (Joe) Reinke of Midland; son, Robert (June) Lennard of Reading; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Alvin) Schmidt of Osseo and Lois (John) Ross of Long Island, New York; brother, Ernest (Lillian) LaPointe of Ottawa Lake, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Grace Lennard will be Monday, March 23, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. Ioane Sigarara as celebrant. Interment will follow at Maplewood cemetery in Reading. The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday from 2-4 p.m with a prayer vigil service Sunday at 6:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m., at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale, the American Cancer Society or St. Anthony Church.

Florella L. Waynick, 71, of Jonesville, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the Cancer Center of America in Zion, Illinois. She was born May 8, 1937 in Hazard, Kentucky to Roscoe & Mary (Napier) Hensley. She was married February 2, 1965 to Eddie Waynick and he survives.

Florella was a member of Today's Church of God in Quincy. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Surviving besides her husband Eddie of 43 years are two daughters, Cindy (Bill) Myers of Houston, Texas, and Rhonda (Dr. Robert) Stefanski of Hillsdale; a son, Roger (Judy) Waynick of Atlanta, Georgia; ten grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Justin, Scott-Ross, Lindsey, Holly, Courtnee, Billy, Rebecca and Bill; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gene (Judy) Hensley of Mobile, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and a brother.

Funeral services for Florella Waynick will be Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Bishop C.J. Saddler officiating. Interment will take place Thursday at 3:00 p.m., at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock. The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cancer Center of America.

Elwood W. "Bud" Harper

Bronson - Elwood W. "Bud" Harper, age 74 of Bronson, died Wednesday, January 8,2003 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. He was born August 14, 1928 in Battle Creek, son of William Wesley and Fern (Smith) Harper and lived in Union City until 1966 when he moved to Bronson.

He married Diana Finney on September 25, 1948 in Union City. Bud retired in 1990 as a tool & die maker working for 17 years with Bronson Specialties Co, and later for 10 years with LECO Corporation in Bronson. After his retirement, he managed the Canterbury Gardens apartments in Coldwater.

Bud was a member of St. Mary of Assumption catholic Church in Bronson, enjoyed walking, woodworking, crafts and hunting.

Surviving are his wife, Diana, daughters and sons-in-law, Bunnee and Dan Smoker and Tammy and Dennis Brauker all of Bronson, and Julie and Richard Perry of Sandy, Utah; his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Jenny Harper of Coldwater; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a sister Mrs. John (Vera) Lewis of Coldwater. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leah Belle Head and Joyce Warren.

The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Elwood W. "Bud" Harper will be held at 10 AM Saturday, January 11, 2003 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson from 4 - 8 PM Friday where Deacon Gerald Smoker will lead the Rosary at 7 PM. Memorial Donations are suggested to the Branch County Humane Society. Envelopes are available at the Kolcz Funeral Home.

Robert L. Hobel

Bronson - Robert L. Hobel, age 65, of Bronson, died early Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at his home following a two week illness. He had been in failing health for several years.

He was born June 12, 1937 in Sturgis, son of William and Jessie (Friend) Hobel and lived most of his life in the Bronson area. He retired from Parma Tube in Sturgis in 1999 after more than 20 years of service. He has been mowing the lawn at St. Mary cemetery for the past several years.

Bob was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sturgis, the U.C.T. and the AARP. He enjoyed collecting model cars, repairing small engines and especially hunting.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Jody Hobel of Angola, IN, step-sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Terry Capman of Fremont, IN and Bradley and Debra Capman of Sturgis, his step-daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Willard Vedmore of Three Rivers, MI; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his Step-Mother, Mary Hobel of Burr Oak; step-brother, Steve Stockwell of Sturgis and his special friend, Mary Elizabeth Supianoski of Bronson and her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Jennie Supianoski also of Bronson.

The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Robert Hobel will be held at 10 AM Thursday, January 9, 2003 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson from 3 - 8 PM Wednesday where Deacon Smoker will lead the Rosary at 7 PM Wednesday. Memorial Donations are suggested for St. Mary of Assumption Church. Envelopes are available at the Kolcz Funeral Home.

Sharon E. Blaskie

Sturgis - Sharon E. Blaskie, age 62, of Sturgis, died Saturday, January 4, 2003 at her home following a several year illness.

She was born March 28, 1940 in Union City, Michigan, daughter of Herman and Mildred (Shaw) Markley and graduated from Union City High School in 1959. She married Theodore Blaskie on May 25, 1968 in Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis.

Sharon was a homemaker, a farm wife and a cosmetologist. She had worked at Wright Beauty Academy. She also had worked at Lamb Knit in Colon, Denton Mills in Centreville, G & H Industries in Centreville and at the Green Valley Holiday Inn. She also volunteered her time at Holy Angels Catholic School. Sharon enjoyed embroidery, traveling, bowling, word search puzzles and just visiting with people.

Surviving are her husband, Theodore, her daughter, Carolyn Blaskie of Sturgis, her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Rhoda Blaskie of Oklahoma City, OK, two children she and her husband raise, John (Beth) Blaskie of Athens and Julie Shansudden of Malaysia; four grandchildren, Raymond Blaskie, Rebecca Blaskie, Ronald Blaskie and Richard Blaskie, Jr.; her Mother Mildred Markley of Williamston, MI and several aunts, uncles and cousins including Mary Bethel of Williamston, MI and Bonnie hassenger of Constantine. She was preceded in death by her father Herman Markley in 1995 and by an infant sister, Shirlee Dawn Markley.

The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Sharon E. Blaskie will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Prayers before Mass will be held at 9 :30 AM at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery, Union City, Michigan. Lunch following the interment will be held at the Union City Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 PM Monday where Deacon Gerald Smoker will lead the Rosary at 7 PM Monday. Those wishing to make a Memorial Contribution are asked to please consider the Sisters of St. Joseph or Pet Haven in Sturgis. Envelopes are available at the Kolcz Funeral Home.

Raymond A. King

Sturgis - Raymond A. King, age 83,. of Sturgis, formerly of Bronson, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Thurston Woods Village following a nine month illness.

He was born September 14, 1919 in Gilead Township, son of James and Pearl (KamKamp) King. he married Pauline Davis on April 29, 1950 in Angola, Indiana. They moved to Sturgis 15 years ago from Bronson.

Raymond was an Army veteran of World War 2, earning four bronze battle stars and the Purple Heart for serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with the 126th Infantry. He is a member of the American Legion and a life member of the VFW in Sturgis. Raymond enjoyed reading, especially Westerns and doing counted cross stitch.

He retired in 1982 after serving 29 years with the Branch County Road Commission.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline, a daughter Mitzie Shipe of Sturgis, a son James A. King of Coldwater; Nine Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; three Great Great Grandchildren; and a brother George King of Bronson. He was preceded in death by a grandson Joshua Shipe and a brother and two sisters.

Funeral Services celebrating the life of Raymond A. King will be held at 1 PM Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the Kolcz Funeral Home fo Bronson with Rev. Mona Joslyn officiating. Interment will follow in Bronson cemetery with full Military Honors conferred by the Bronson Posts of the VFW and Americal Legion.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 5 - 8 PM Friday where Memorial Donations may be made to Thurston Woods Village.

Janet E. Dixon

Bronson - Janet E. Dixon, age 69, of Bronson, died early morning Tuesday, April 1, 2003 in Waukesha, Wisconsin where she was spending the winter with her sister. She had been in failing health.

Janet was born January 28, 1934 in Bronson, daughter of Laddie and Frances (Bohacz) Kostielny and was a lifelong Bronson resident. She married Calvin Dixon on June 3, 1951 in Bronson. The marriage ended in divorce and Calvin died on July 18, 1989.

Her family was her most cherished possession and Janet loved each of them dearly. She worked as a waitress in the early days, then at Bronson Plastics Company until an accident at work forced her early retirement. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bronson.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and John Penick of Coldwater and Joy and David Rice of Hollister, California, and daughter Kathleen Barker of Las Vegas, Nevada; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Elodia Dixon of Hollister, CA and son Robert Dixon of San Antonio, Texas; 11 Grandchildren; six great grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Al and Anne Kostielney of Hollister, CA and her sister and brother-in-law, Judith and Frank Zenobia of Dousman, Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews. Her son John Dixon preceded her in death.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Frank Zenobia III officiating. Interment will follow in Bronson cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 PM Friday where Memorial Donations may be made to the Bronson Food Pantry or tot he Bronson Community Foundation. Envelopes are available at the Kolcz Funeral Home.

Alvin "Bill" Faunce

Mesa, Arizona - Alvin "Bill" Faunce, of Bronson, Michigan and Mesa, Arizona and formerly of Toledo, Ohio died Saturday, March 29, 2003 in Mesa, Arizona. He had been in failing health.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held in Bronson, Michigan at a later date. More information will be published by the Kolcz Funeral Home of Bronson as soon as it is available.

Mary G. Gunthorpe

Bronson - Mary G. Gunthorpe, age 88, of Coldwater, formerly of Bronson, died July 14, 2003 on her 88th birthday. She had been in failing health.

Mary was born July 14, 1915 in Jamestown, Indiana, daughter of Robert and Izora (Bressler) Crandall and graduated from Fremont, Indiana High School. She moved to Bronson, Michigan in 1953. Mary worked as a retail sales clerk most of her life including the former Dancer’s Variety Store and the former Bronson Super Valu, both in Bronson.

She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Bronson and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in Coldwater. Her husband Dale Gunthorpe died in 1977.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Lorraine Tooman of Bronson, seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister Roberta Baker of Fremont, Indiana; three brothers, Roy Crandall and Kenneth Crandall both of Fremont, Indiana and Max Crandall of Coldwater. She was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia Bidwell and a brother.

Graveside Funeral Services celebrating the life of Mary G. Gunthorpe will be held at 11 AM Thursday at the Bronson cemetery. Private visiting hours will be held at the Kolcz Funeral Home of Bronson. Memorial Donations may be made to the Branch County Commission On Aging.

Mary C. Jeffery

Bronson - Mary C. Jeffery, age 85, of Bronson, died early Sunday morning, July 13, 2003 at her home. She had been in ill health.

She was born March 22, 1918 in Covert, MI., daughter of Charles and Clara (Burrows) Rendell and graduated from Covert High school in 1935. She married Dr. George Jeffery on July 11, 1942 in Covert and the couple moved to Bronson, Michigan in 1943 where he opened his veterinary practice.

Mary served as George’s Veterinary Assistant for many years until they retired in 1980. She was also a devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother. The couple wintered in Paisley, Florida since 1980 where Mary enjoyed operating their Pecan Orchard. She also enjoyed their travels and was known for feeding birds.

She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in Bronson, member of the Ladies Advance at the First Congregational United Church of Christ and the Bronson Mothers Club.

Surviving are her husband, George, daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Gary Albright of Bronson and Mary Lee and Dan Boter of Grand Haven; sons and daughters-in-law, Ivan and Nina Jeffery of Reading, PA and Alan and Sandy Jeffery of Bronson; 11 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; a brother Beryl Rendell of Paisley, FL and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son David George Jeffery on January 1, 1945 and two brothers, Charles Rendell and Edwin Rendell.

Funeral Services celebrating the life of Mary C. Jeffery will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson, MI. with Jim McKelvey officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn cemetery, Orland, Indiana.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 4 – 8 PM Tuesday, July 15, 2003 where Memorial Donations are suggested to the Charity of Ones’ Choice.

Alvin G. Kirkum, Jr.

Bronson - Alvin G. Kirkum, Jr., age 63, of Bronson, died Friday, June 27, 2003 at the Select Specialty Hospital of Battle Creek health System following a three week illness. He had been in failing health for the past several years.

Alvin was born march 12, 1040 in Allen, Michigan, son of Alvin G. and Rosie ((Thatcher) Kirkum, Sr. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962. Alvin married Carol Brodock on November 11, 1976.

He was a 22 years employee of the Midwest Foundry in Coldwater when the company closed in 1989. He then worked for Campbell Mushroom Farm in Brighton, Indiana for ten years retiring in 2000 due to ill health.

In his younger years, he enjoyed building street rod cars with his boys. He was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing, deer and bear hunting and camping at Round Lake. He loved to watch NASCAR Races and Westerns with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Carol; his Mother Rosie Kirkum of Bronson; his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Bonnie (Smoker) Lindsey, John and Julia (Davis) Lindsey, Dave and Kim (Messer) Lindsey all of Bronson, Brad and Becky (Moise) Lindsey of Vicksburg; His daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Mike Wetherbee of Centreville, MI and daughters, Vina Aquilar, Nina Kirkum and Tina Kirkum all of California; 14 Grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Vicki Kirkum of Colon and several nieces and nephews.

His father, Alvin Kirkum, Sr., his sister, Carol Kirkum and his brother Melvin Kirkum preceded him in death.

Funeral Services celebrating the life of Alvin G. Kirkum, Jr. will be held at 1 PM Monday, June 30, 2003 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. The Rev. Dale Walterhouse will officiate. Interment will follow in Bronson cemetery with full military honors conferred by the Bronson Posts of the VFW and American Legion.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday. The family suggests those wishing to make a Memorial Donation in Mr. Kirkum’s memory to please consider the weight lifting room at Bronson High School. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
