Sylvia A. Weaver

Bronson – Sylvia A. Weaver, age 60, of Bronson died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at the Sturgis Hospital following a long illness.

She was born June 10, 1943 in Centreville, daughter of Adam and Catherine (Ludwick) Kosmerick and was a lifelong Bronson resident. Sylvia graduated from Bronson High School in 1961 and attended two years at Jackson Business College.

Sylvia married Robert Weaver on October 12, 1963 in St. Mary Catholic Church in Bronson. He died April 26, 1987. Sylvia was a longtime Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother and 4-H Leader. Their house on Weaver Road was known to the neighborhood children as the "Kool-Aid" House because refreshments were always on hand for any children and thus was a neighborhood place to be.

Sylvia worked at Telemark in Sturgis for eight years and also at Thurston Woods Village for 11 years. She later cared for her aging parents and other elder relatives. She enjoyed collecting antiques and spending quality time with family and friends.

She was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and Sacred Heart Society and a long time member of the Bronson Child Study Club.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Polly Ann and Larry Gjernes of Milan, MI, and Amy Sue and Brett Allen of Battle creek; son and daughter-in-law, Stacy and Suzanne Weaver of Bronson; Nine Grandchildren and a sister Patricia Theile of Farmington Hills, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Sylvia Weaver will be held at 1 PM Saturday, September 20, 2003 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kolcz Funeral Home until 8 PM Friday where the family will be present from 2 – 8 PM. The Rosary will be recited at 5 PM Friday. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Mary Church or School.

Stanley F. Green

Bronson - Stanley F. Green, age 81, of Bronson passed away Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the Laurels of Coldwater.

He was born October 6, 1920, the son of the late Howard and Opal (Buck) Green. Stanley graduated in 1940 from Orland High School and married Eleanor Keeslar on May 23, 1943 in Bronson. They celebrated 60th wedding anniversary this past May.

Stanley was born into a farming family and managed the family farm following his father’s death in 1948. He became interstaed in the livestock business and subsequently managed the Coldwater Livestock Auction for 30 years. He also owned the Angola Livestock Auction in the 1960’s. He had a knack for estimating the live weight of cattle and often amazed people at his accuracy. He later sold real estate for over 20 years and was the top Branch County Salesman for two consecutive years while an associate at Dale Dean realty. Stanley was instrumental in bringing real estate auctions to the area. He was well respected for his honesty and integrity in the business community.

A lifelong resident of Branch County, Stanley and Eleanor retired to Florida in 1978 because of his health. They returned to Bronson in 1995 to be with family and friends. He was a former member of the Orland Congregational Church. Stanley received loving care from the staff at the Laurels of Coldwater during the last year of his life.

Surviving are his loving wife Eleanor,; son Lynn green of Coldwater, daughter Paula (Green) Ludwick of Coldwater, four grandchildren, Lisa Dunn, Erik Huff, Jennifer Shepler and Carla Kay Ludwick; six great grandchildren and sister, Mary Ellen Kain of Orland, IN.. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Kay Lynn Green in 1948 and Carla Jo Green in 1954.

Stanley was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral Service celebrating the life of Stanley F. Green will be held at 11 Am Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. Interment will follow in North Gilead cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 5 –8 PM Monday where Memorial Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Family.

Josephine Wotta

Bronson - Josephine Wotta, age 92, of Bronson, died at her home Thursday, September 11, 2003.

She was born August 23, 1911 in Bronson, daughter of Thomas and Josephine (Mujta) Ludwiczak and was a lifelong Bronson resident. She married William Wotta on September 4, 1933 in St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church. Bill died on March 31, 1991.

Josephine worked at the former Douglas Manufacturing Company in Bronson (now Douglas Autotech Corporation) for 37 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church and the Rosary Society and Sacred Heart Society.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Ann Wotta of Bronson; seven Grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Ludwick and Regina Wielgos both of Bronson and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Harriet Wotta, two brothers, Floyd Ludwiczak and John Ludwiczak and three sisters, Helen Ludwiczak, Frances Pierucki and Catherine Kosmerick.

The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Josephine Wotta will be held at 11AM Monday, September 15, 2003 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 3 – 8 PM Sunday. The Rosary will be recited at 5 PM Sunday at the Kolcz Funeral Home where Memorial Donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Christian Service or to the Sacred Heart Society.

Francis Auten

Bronson - Francis M. Auten, age 86 of Bronson, died Saturday, September 06, 2003 at his home with his family at his side, following a long illness.

He was born May 2, 1917 in Sturgis, son of Claude Edward and Cora Belle (Stevenson) Auten and attended Bronson schools, class of 1936. Francis married Wava Burch on June 24, 1939 in Sturgis and the couple lived in Sturgis early in their marriage before moving to Bronson where they have lived for the past 62 years.

Francis worked for L.A. Darling Display in Coldwater for 42 years, retiring in 1979 as maintenance supervisor and was a licensed electrician. He was one of the founders of and was an active member of the Branch County Electrical Association. He was also a member of the former Branch County Boat Club and several camper clubs.

He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially at their cottage on Palmer Lake near Colon and enjoyed being outdoors with his many friends. Francis was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bronson.

Surviving are his wife Wava, daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Ronald Baker of Portage, MI and Sarah and Neal Parks of Quincy and a son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. and Margaret Auten of Coldwater; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a sister, Lucille Brow of Muskegon and several nieces and nephews.

His sisters, Lula James and Nina Fair and a great grandson preceded him in death.

Funeral Services celebrating the life of Francis M. Auten will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Bronson with Rev. Mona Joslyn officiating. Interment will follow in Bronson cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson from 4 – 8 PM Tuesday where Memorial Donations may be made to the Hospice of Sturgis.

Rita B. Badder

Bronson - Rita B. Badder, age 76, of Bronson, died Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the Community Health center of Branch County in Coldwater.

She was born July 24, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Iswankowski) Rucinski. Rita left Detroit in 1951 and moved to Florida. In 1952, she moved to Bronson.

Rita worked at the former Lynema Enterprises in Bronson, Trans-A-Gram in Sturgis and for many years at the former Douglas Manufacturing Co. in Bronson (now Douglas Autotech) before becoming a nurses aide. She then worked for 12 years for the former Creal Enterprises and retired from Carriage Inn (now Laurels of Coldwater) in 1989.

Rita was an avis Detroit Tigers Fan, loved to read and enjoyed doing jig saw puzzles with her great grandchildren. Animals also held a special place in her heart.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Pastor John Fields of the First Baptist Church of Bronson officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from

4 – 8 PM Monday where Memorial Donations may be made to the Branch County Humane Society.

Barbara Clark

Bronson - Barbara Clark, age 67, of Bronson, died late Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the Community Health Center in Branch County. She had been in failing health.

She was born July 28, 1936 in Marion, Indiana to Mr. & Mrs. Hamilton and was married to Junior Clark on August 30, 1956 in St. Joseph, Michigan. He died April 24, 2001.

Barbara served as a foster Grandparent for the Bronson Community Schools for many years and enjoyed knitting and video games.

Surviving are her daughters, Linda (Clarence) Jenkins, Mary (Walter) Marler and Patsy Harggett all of Bronson and a son, Albert (Melissa) Clark of Coldwater; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.also several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 5 – 8 PM Monday, September 8, 2003. Cremation will follow. Memorial Donations may be made to the family.

Leland B. "Butch" Hoard

Bronson = Leland B. "Butch" Hoard, age 54, of Bronson, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 1, 2003 after suffering an apparent heart attack.

He was born June 19, 1949 in Coldwater , son of Cleo and LaVallo (Alger) Hoard and was a lifelong area resident. Butch graduated from Bronson High School in 1969 and has worked for the Branch County Road Commission for the past 34 years as a heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of the Lighthouse Gospel Church in Coldwater and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Butch enjoyed racing, especially drag racing Ford Ranger Trucks. He was known as the "Crew Chief" of Ford Racing in the area and raced at Martin Dragstrip and Osceola, Indiana. In his spare time, he loved working on engines, and anything to do with outdoor mechanics. He favored old cars and his 1962 Ford Falcon was one of his most prized possessions. He also cherished Harley Davidson Motorcycles and enjoyed boating.

Butch married Debi Seiler on June 19, 1971. The marriage ended in January, 1994 and they remain friends. He was presently engaged to Bev Eskie.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Nicki and Dave Luce of Coldwater; sons Jeff Hoard and Cody Hoard, and son and daughter-in-law Joe and Nicole Hoard, all of Bronson; grandchildren, Madison Hoard, Caden Hoard and Riley Luce; his fiancee, Bev Eskie of Coldwater, his brothers, Larry Hoard of Holland, Ohio and Lenny Hoard of Coldwater; sisters, Sue Kosmerick of Bronson and Mary Jean Hoard of Naples, FL. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 5, 2003 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. Interment will follow in Matteson Twp. cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 PM Thursday. Memorial donations are suggested to his granddaughter, Riley Luce.

Mildred I. Markley

Union City, MI. - Mildred I. Markley, age 82, of Union City, died Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Community health center of Branch County. She had been in failing health.

Mildred was born July 30, 1921 in Branch County daughter of William and Mable (Button) Shaw and was a lifelong Branch County resident. She attended Union City Schools and married Herman Markley on August 6, 1938 in Auburn, Indiana. Herman died in 1995.

Together, they farmed all their lives on Francisco Road and sold fruits, vegetables and cheese from their front porch. Customers were often invited to join them at the dinner table with anyone else that may have stopped in for a visit.

Mildred was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Colon and the Branch County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed travelling, camping, sewing, crochet and her gardens. She always enjoyed talking to people, was an avid reader and liked feeding the birds, cats and dogs and especially hummingbirds.

Surviving are four grandchildren, Carolyn Blaskie of Sturgis, Richard Blaskie of Oklahoma City, Okla., John Blaskie of Athens and Julie Shamsudden of Malaysia, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Sharon Blaskie in January, 2003, daughter Shirlee Dawn Markley at birth, a sister Betty Wrigglesworth and brother, James Shaw, Wayne Shaw and Leo Shaw.

Funeral Services celebrating the life of Mildred I. Markley will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery, Union City, MI.

The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 4 – 8 PM Tuesday. Memorial Donations may be made to the Colon American Legion Auxiliary or to the Branch County 4-H.

Josephine B. Noga

Bronson - Josephine Barbara Noga of Bronson, died Thursday, August 28, 2003 on her 83rd birthday at the Laurels of Coldwater. She had been in failing health.

The daughter of William and Mary (Kasperski) Kaczynski, Josephine was born in 1920 in Wyandotte, Michigan and moved to Bronson at age two with her family.

She married Edward Noga in August, 1947 in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson. Ed died in 1982.

Jo worked at the former L A Darling Company in Bronson for 46 years until the company moved in the 1960’s. She then worked at Bundy Tubing in Coldwater until 1985 when she retired at age 65.

An active member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church, Jo also belonged to the Rosary Society, Sacred Heart Society and the AARP. She enjoyed all types of needle work, especially crochet, and baking and she just liked to work.

Surviving are her daughter, Rose Lynn Williams of Hohewald, Tennessee; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother Peter Kaczynski of East Leroy, MI; sisters, Genevieve Bluhm and Rose Printke both of Bronson and a half-sister, Sally Anderson of Lake Wales, FL and several nieces and nephews. An infant sister Elizabeth Ann Kaczynski preceded her in death.

The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Josephine B. Noga will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson. The Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 PM Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson where the Rosary will be recited at 7 PM Tuesday. Memorial Donations are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church or School.
