Dorothy L. Smith, age 78, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Jackson and Jonesville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 16, 2004. She lived in Columbus, Ohio for the past two years, where she passed away at the Kobacker House. Dorothy was born June 22, 1925 in Jonesville to Albert & Myrtle (Hughes) Bauerly. In 1947 she married Hugh E. Smith and he preceded her in 2002.

Dorothy grew up in Jonesville, graduating from Jonesville High School. She later moved to Jackson where she lived until moving to Columbus, Ohio.

Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Lonnie) Miles, and Sandra Smith, both of Columbus; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Russell of Bellville, MI, and Francis Fogel of Canton, MI; and one brother, Edward Bauerly of Jonesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Hugh, a sister, Bertha Thompson and two brothers, Harold and Howard Bauerly.

The funeral service for Dorothy L. Smith will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville with Rev. Graig Pahl officiating. Interment will follow in the Horton cemetery, Horton. There will be calling hours Thursday from 2-8 p.m. The family will receive friends on Friday at 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m.

Doris I. Smith
March 27, 1916 - May 1, 2006

Doris I. Smith, age 90, of U.S. 20, Fayette, Ohio passed away Monday, May 1, 2006, at home. She was born March 27, 1916, in Fayette, Ohio to Lee and Ethel (Ratcliff) VanValkenburg. She married J. Dale Smith on August 31, 1939, in Wauseon, Ohio and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1972.

Doris graduated from Fayette High School, Class of 1936, and attended the Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and dearly loved her grandchildren.

Surviving Doris is one daughter, Diana (Willie) York of Lyons, Ohio; two sons, Duane (Shirley) Smith of Hudson, Michigan and Donald Smith of Fayette, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cynthia Allion of Morenci, Michigan, Dorothea O'Brien of Lyons, Ohio; two brothers, Francis VanValkenburg of Morenci, Michigan and John (Joyce) VanValkenburg of Prattville, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Florence VanValkenburg and one brother Bill VanValkenburg.

Funeral services for Doris Smith will be Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette, Ohio with Pastor Donna Stutzman and Pastor Aaron DeLine officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.

Ernest R. Lambright
April 20, 1902 - July 21, 2004

Ernest R. Lambright, age 102, of Hillsdale passed away Wednesday July 21, 2004 at the Faith Haven Nursing Home in Jackson. He was born on April 20, 1902 in Williams County Ohio to Willard and Emma (Kirk) Lambright.

Ernest was a former employee of Allied Products and was in the heating and cooling business for many years. He was member and co-founder of the Hillsdale Assembly of God Church.

On August 8, 1926 he married Nellie M. Seeley who preceded him in death in 1973. He was also preceded by a son, Robert, two brothers, Melvin and Roy, and a brother-in-law LeRoy Seeley.

Ernest is survived by three daughters, Maxine (Don) Stephenson of Hillsdale, Ailene (George) Lawrence of Saline, Carol (Dwight) Bergman of Monclova, Ohio; one son, Normand (JoEllen) Lambright of Dickson, Tenn; a sister, Myrtle Seeley of Hillsdale; 14 grandchidren, 22 great-grandchildren, and several great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ernest will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Dennis Haarar officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Waldron cemetery in Waldron.

April 14, 1921 - July 23, 2004

Erma B. Stemen, age 83, of Bryan, Ohio formerly of Hillsdale, passed away Friday July 23, 2004 at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo from injuries sustained in a auto accident. She was born on April 14, 1921 in Wheatland Township Michigan to Harley and Ethel (Carr) Strine.

Erma was a sales clerk for the Montgomery Ward store in Hillsdale for 15 years until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the 8 and 40 Club.

On November 20, 1945 she married R. O. Stemen who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Janice (David) Bilton of Montpelier, Ohio; one sister, Betty Rowe of Hillsdale; two grandchildren, Andrew (Gretchen) Bilton, and John Bilton; two great-grandchildren, Ace Bilton, and P.J. Lang.

Erman was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, and 4 brothers.

Funeral services for Erma Stemen will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Mike Raypholtz officiating. Interment will follow at the Wyllys cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edward L. Tidwell, age 85, of Dickson, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Waverly Health Care Center in Waverly, Tennessee. He was born in Bon Aqua to Edward and Margaret (Yates) Tidwell.

Edward was a retired C.P.A. with Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, Michigan and California. He was a U.S. Army Sargent WW II Veteran and member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Dickson, TN.

Surviving Edward are his wife, Jeanne Alice (Bonnin) Tidwell of Dickson, TN; one brother, John Howard Tidwell of Prescott, Arizona; one sister, Mary Louise Yager of Perrysburg, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral mass for Edward was held Friday, July 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher's Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Gideon as Celebrant. Arrangements in Dickson, Tennessee were entrusted to Taylor Funeral Home.

There will be a graveside service for Edward on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci, Michigan with Fr. Gary Ferguson officiating. Local arrangements were entrusted to Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci.

Mary Lucille Maletich
August 22, 1928 - April 8, 2008

Mary Lucille Maletich, 79, of Hillsdale, was called home on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. She was married March 30, 1947 to Ernest Maletich, Sr.

Mary was a former branch manager of Hillsdale State Savings Bank, and past Worthy Matron of Winona Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She retired to Florida for 19 years and returned to Hillsdale in June 2005.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Ernest Maletich, Sr.; three sons, Ernest (Margie) Maletich Jr., Frank (Debi) Maletich and Van (Donna) Maletich; a daughter, Kay (Bob) Aube; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Rounds; and a brother, Arnold Fields.

Visitation for Mary Maletich will be Thursday, April 10, 2008, from 6-8 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., at the Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, Ohio with interment to follow at the Apostolic cemetery. Visitation will also take place on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services, at the Rittman Funeral Home.

Elwood "Joe" Vanderpool
April 11, 1938 - July 4, 2004

Joe Vanderpool, 66, of West Mulberry Road, Morenci passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Toledo Hospital. He was born near Weston on April 11, 1938 to Elwood & Ethel (Dulaney) Vanderpool. He married Shirley Zuvers in Morenci on November 1, 1968 and she survives.

Joe was a farmer living in the Morenci area all of his life. He retired from Parker Chemical after 30 years of service. He then worked at the Lyons Metamora-Anderson Elevator, retiring in 2003. Since then he has been working at the Raymond-Stutzman Farms near Seneca. Joe was on the Morenci Fire Department for 33 years and was Fire Chief for a number of years. He was affiliated with the Heritage Festival and was president of the Heritage Antique Tractor Club in Adrian.

Besides his wife, Sirley, Joe is survived by his mother, Ethel Vanderpool of Hudson; a daughter, Londa (Doug) Pickles of Sand Creek; a son, Lonnie "Barney" (Julie) Vanderpool of Morenci; four grandchildren, Alysia (Neal) Callender, Allison (Joe Ott) Pickles, Shelby Vanderpool, and Joseph "Little Joe" Vanderpool; two sisters, Donna Wilson of Hudson and Evelyn Gray of Kissimmee, Florida; and two brothers, Jack of Morenci and Victor of Hudson.

Joe was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Patricia Poling.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fritz Kruse officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, July 5, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, July 6, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of donor's choice.

Gladys M. Soles
November 10, 1917 - August 4, 2004

Gladys M. Soles, age 86, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Hillsdale Co. Medical Care Facility. She was born in Griffin, Indiana on November 10, 1917 to William and Mary (White) Martin.

In 1935 she married Robert Spurlock who preceded her in death in 1967, in 1968 she married Virgil Joice who preceded in 1986, she was also preceded by two sons, and two grandchildren.

Gladys is survived by four daughters, Donna (Raymond) Tremaine and Mary Wood, both of Hillsdale, Vera (Jerry) Pettit of Pittsford and Shirley (Walter) Denny of Park Hills, Mo; four sons, Roy Spurlock of Arnold, Mo, Marvin (Nancy) Spurlock of Cape Girardeau, Mo, Donald (Pam) Spurlock of Scott City, Mo, Tim (Violet) Joice of Osseo; and twenty-two grandchildren and forty two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Gladys Soles will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home Hillsdale, with Pastor Don Harkey officiating. Interment will follow at the Lakeview cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m, at the funeral home.

HAROLD W. McCOSH
September 19, 1914 - August 12, 2004

Service: Monday, August 16, 2004 & 1:30 p.m.

Harold W. McCosh, age 89, of Hillsdale, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born September 18, 1914 in Girard Twp., Michigan to Charles & Maude (Layman) McCosh.

Harold retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Jackson, was a member of the Bankers Baptist Church and a former member of the Lions Club.

He was married in Auburn, Indiana on July 27, 1939 to Thelma Pease and she survives. Also surviving is a son, James (Bonnie) McCosh, Hillsdale; grandchildren, Katherine and Carl Chrzan, Burton, Ohio, Joseph (Denise) McCosh, Hillsdale and Richard McCosh, Arlington, Va.; six great grandchildren, Hannah, John and Josiah Sawyer, Samuel Chrzan, Kenton and Connor McCosh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Dean, brother Harry and a sister Hazel.

Funeral services for Harold McCosh will be Monday at 1:30 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Jason Avery officiating. Interment will follow at the Bankers cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
