November 17, 1914 - August 4, 2004

Raymond McDowell, 89, of East St. South, Morenci passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Fulton Manor in Wauseon, OH. He was born on November 17, 1914, the son of Ivan & Arminta (Mansburger) McDowell, in Hillsdale. He married Leora "Teen" Burt on August 18, 1934, in Three Rivers. She preceded him in death on November 24, 2002.

Raymond has been a resident of Morenci since 1950, he was a member of the Morenci United Methodist Church, a life member of the Masons, and past president of Morenci Kiwanis.

Survivors include two sons, Lee McDowell of Detroit and James (Sharon) McDowell of Morenci; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one brother, Ivan McDowell Jr. of Hillsdale.

Besides his wife, Leora "Teen", Raymond was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Funeral service will be Friday, August 6, 2004, at 11:00AM at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci. Rev. Dorothy Okray will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lakeview cemetery in Hillsdale. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

June 5, 1918 - July 27, 2004

Rolene M. Scheick, age 86, formerly of Osseo and Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at The Laurels of Coldwater. She was born June 5, 1918 in Litchfield Twp., Michigan to Benjamin & Starleigh (Chilson) Monroe.

Rolene was former employee of Hillsdale Manufacturing for 2 years, the Oak Screw Products for 4 years, the True Blue Press for 25 years and Addison Products for 12 years retiring in 1981. She was an avid bowler and a member of the bowling league, a member of the Hillsdale Conservation Club and loved crafts, especially crocheting afghans.

She was married September 1, 1948 to Lawrence Scheick and he preceded her in death on April 9, 1995. Surviving are sisters, Florine Demengeot of Osseo and Anna (Norman) Belle Green of Quincy; a brother, Harold Monroe of Gladwin; and many nieces and nephews that she truly loved and enjoyed. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Gerald & Leon Monroe and a sister, Leona Gillette.

Funeral services for Rolene Scheick will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Ryan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Lakeview cemetery in Hillsdale. Visitation will be Friday morning from 10:00 until funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Richard E. "Si" Sterling
March 29, 1931 - June 19, 2004

Service: Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m.

Richard E. Sterling, age 73, of East South St., Morenci, Michigan passed away Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio.

He was born March 29, 1931, in Hudson, Michigan to Ezra and Ruth (Marwelli) Sterling. He married Blanch Irene Wilcox on April 12, 1952, in Angola, Indiana and she survives.

Richard was employed at Kewaunee Manufacturing in Adrian for over 35 years and was previously employed at Fauvers in Morenci and Homer Donaldson in Hudson. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Morenci American Legion Post #368, attended the Morenci Nazarene Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving Richard besides his wife Irene of Morenci are three daughters, Karen Sterling of Menominee, Michigan, Peggy Birr of Morenci and Kathy (Larry) Cheesbro of Wauseon, Ohio; one son, Jack (Trish) Sterling of Morenci; one sister, Geraldine Speaker of Adrian; four half sisters, Linda, Roberta, Virginia and Laura Ann; one half brother, Glen; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harvey, Everette and Robert.

Funeral services for Richard "Si" Sterling will be Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Eagle Funeral Home Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. Rick Puckett officiating. Military interment by Morenci American Legion Post #368 will follow in Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may make memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation.

Virginia G. Judd
March 25, 1913 - July 21, 2004

Virginia G. Judd, age 91, of Jackson formerly of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday July 21, 2004 at the W. A. Foote Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was born on March 25, 1913 in Clinton, Iowa to Dr. George and Grace(Gould) Kincaid.

Virginia received her B.A. from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, served in the Womens Army Corp during World War 11, served on General Eisenhowers staff and was awarded the purple heart presented by General Eisenhower. She was a member of the Hillsdale First Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Hillsdale Golf and Country Club.

On June 24, 1949 she married Weldon W. Judd who preceded her in death in 1995. Also preceding her were her parents, three brothers, and a neice Lynn McLachlin.

Virginia is survived by three sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Virginia will be held on Monday, July 26, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Vista Grande Villa, Grande Room on Springport Road in Jackson with the Rev. Dr. James Hegedus officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at the Ft. Custer National cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsdale.

Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Walter L. "Dutch" Clinansmith
February 16, 1914 - July 13, 2004

Walter L. "Dutch" Clinansmith, 90 of Hillsdale,MI, formerly of Ypsilanti , passed away, July 13, 2004. He was born February 16, 1914 to Manley & Martha Clinansmith. He married Margaret Avis and she preceded in 2000.

Walter was a WWII Vetran, and owned and operated Clinansmith Well Drilling.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Joan (Norm) Ladd & Beverly Coe both of Hillsdale; 1 son, Walter Clinansmith of Plymouth; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

He was prededed by his wife, a daughter-in-law, Bertie, 2 sisters, and 6 brothers.

There will be a memorial service held at a later date. Those planning a memorial donation may do so to Hospice of Hillsdale Co., 124 S. Howell St., Hillsdale MI, 49242. Arragements are by the Eagle Funeral Home, Jonesville.

William George "Bill" Cook
July 18, 1940 - July 7, 2004

William George "Bill" Cook, age 63, of Jonesville passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2004 in his home. He was born July 18, 1940 in Manistique, Michigan to George & Leona (Hartwick) Cook.

Bill was a retired carpenter and was a resident of Clare prior to Jonesville.

He was married December 22, 1959 to Sharon Regimbal and she survives. Also surviving are daughters, Malissa (John) Smith of Jonesville and Malinda (Kevin) Labani of Reading; sons, William Cook II of Jonesville, Samuel, John and George (Gail) Cook, all of Litchfield; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Leona Herron of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, Adele Cook, one sister, and one grandchild.

Funeral services for Bill Cook will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Louis Frank Morse officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset View cemetery in Jonesville. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-5 p.m, at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the family of Bill.

William R. "Bill" Kroa
September 26, 1930 - August 8, 2004

William R. "Bill" Kroa, age 73, of Quincy and formerly of Jonesville, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 8, 2004, at his home. He was born September 26, 1930 in Streator, Illinois to William & Naomi (Hall) Kroa.

Bill was a longtime plastics professional, he was the owner and operator of Bil-Cor Plastics in Hillsdale from 1972-1988. He was a part time truck driver for Flint Trucking in Litchfield. He was a veteran of the Air Force during the Korean Conflict stationed in Africa, a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.

He was married February 14, 1951 to Corrinne Hageman and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Greg (Ruth) Kroa of Knox, Indiana and Bob (Karen) Kroa of Jonesville; grandsons, Jacob, Zachary, Lucas and Joseph Kroa; granddaughter, Penny (Rick) Ervin; great grandchildren, Winnona, Maezie and Wyatt; sister, Ruth (Glen) Anderson of Ney, Ohio; brother, Jack E. (Linda) Kroa of Bryan, Ohio

There will be a graveside funeral service for Bill Kroa on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., at the Ney cemetery in Ney, Ohio with Pastor Rick Barnett officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville.

Wendall H. "Red" Vaughn
January 5, 1920 - July 16, 2004

Wendall H. "Red" Vaughn, age 84, of Jonesville, passed away Friday, July 16, 2004 at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. He was born January 5, 1920 in Williamston, Michigan to Percy & Nettie Irene (Hibbs) Vaughn.

Red had formerly been employed at Hillsdale Steel Products for 16 years and the Sieler Tank Truck Service. He was owner of Red's Marathon in Mosherville for 24 years and most recently owner of Red's Auto Clinic in Jonesville for 18 years. He was a very active member of the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church, a 4-H Club Leader for 18 years, a Hillsdale County 4-H Leader for teens, a member of the 4-H Council and was a State Leader of the Month, he was also a member of I.O.O.F. # 555 of Litchfield.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Julia (Schmitt) Vaughn; children, Wendall (Ellen) Vaughn of Hillsdale, Ronald (Elaine) Vaughn of Ridge, Maryland, Linda (Richard) Kline of Albion and Gregory (Chrinten) Vaughn of North Adams; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Marilyne) Vaughn of Osseo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Darold Vaughn.

Funeral services for Red Vaughn will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Grove cemetery in Hillsdale. The visitation will be Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

William L. Webber
August 13, 1910 - July 18, 2004

William L. Webber, age 93, of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the Litchfield Nursing Centre. He was born August 13, 1910 in Battle Creek, Michigan to William & Gertrude (Richardson) Webber.

William retired from Grand Trunk Railroad in Battle Creek as a general foreman, was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and a member of the Battle Creek American Legion.

He was married in 1935 to Madline Baker and she preceded him in death in 1964. Surviving are children, Sharon Ann Webber of Battle Creek and Robert (Lee) Webber of Hillsdale; four sisters; two grandchildren, Laura (Kevin) Cornish of North Carolina and Nicole (Scott) Rahn of Battle Creek; three great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Eugene and two grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a private family graveside service at Woodland cemetery in Nashville, Michigan. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
