Ann H. Bird, age 86, of Fayette, Ohio passed away Sunday, September 26, 2004, at Harborside Healthcare in Bryan, Ohio. She was born July 9, 1918 in Boston, Massachusetts to John and Anna (Karevich ) Cierniewski. She married Don W. Bird Sr. on March 2, 1946 in Boston and he preceded her in death on December 31, 1984.

Ann was a life time Fayette area resident and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Surviving Ann are two daughters, Cathy (Ed) DeWulf of Fayette, Pat (Thomas) Knighton of Wauseon; four sons, Don (Diane) Bird Jr. of Fayette, Jim (Mary) Bird of Fayette, Charles (Ina) Bird of Pettisville and Paul (Cheryl) Bird of Fayette; one sister, Eleanor Ahern of Boston; 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one brother, and one son, Ronald Bird.

Funeral services for Ann Bird will be Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union cemetery in Fayette. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 28, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may make memorial contributions to Gorham-Fayette Fire and Rescue.

October 2, 1935 - September 4, 2004

Ardith Keller age 68, of Fayette, Ohio passed away Saturday, September 4, 2004, at Flower Hospital Sylvania, Ohio. She was born October 2, 1935 in Morenci, Michigan to Frank and Ruth (Kutzley) Keller. She married Red Keller on July 23, 1983 in Fayette, Ohio.

Surviving Ardith are her husband, Red Keller of Fayette; two daughters, Ellen (Chris) Keefer of Waldron, and Ann (David) Wheeler of Fayette, Ohio; one son, David (Judy) Keller of Stryker Ohio; one sister, Ailene (Leonard) Morr of Fayette; one niece, Jeane (Kenny) Herrington of Stryker; eight grandchildren and two great nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one brother.

Funeral services for Ardith Keller will be Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union cemetery in Fayette. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Anna M. Roberts
February 26, 1929 - September 22, 2004

Memorial Service: At a Later Date

Anna M. Roberts, age 75, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born February 26, 1929 in Detroit to Walter Joseph & Rose (Jakubowski) Duszczyk.

Anna is survived by her daughter, Karen (Dennis) Henley of Flat Rock; a son, Robert (Lisa) Roberts of Hillsdale; brothers, Walter and Eugene Duszczyk.

Cremation has taken place, there will be a memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Beverly Ann Holmes
January 15, 1943 - September 8, 2004

Beverly Ann Holmes, age 61, of Seward St., Hudson, Michigan passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2004 in Waltham, Massachusetts. She was born January 15, 1943 in Belmont, Massachusetts to Walter Clark and Eleanor
(Wallen) Hale. She married Roland Holmes on August 6, 1967 in Belmont, MA and he survives in Hudson.

Beverly was a school teacher in the Boston area and Hudson area Schools, retiring from Waldron Area Schools in 2004 after 18 years of service. She received a B.A. Degree from Framingham State in Massachusetts. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Hudson.

Surviving Beverly besides her husband, Roland Holmes of Hudson are her mother, Eleanor Hale of Waltham, MA; two daughters, Judy (Jeff) Schutte of Hudson and Kim (Mike) Morris of Dearborn, Michigan; two sisters, Lindsey Hale of Waltham and Barbara (Richard) Sayers of Harwich, MA; and one granddaughter, Jill Schutte. She was preceded in death by her step-father Philip Hale and son-in-law Daniel Elkins.

Funeral services for Beverly Holmes will be Monday, September 13, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Rev. Duiane Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Rev. Charles E. McCarson
October 30, 1930 - September 26, 2004

Rev. Charles E. McCarson, 73, of Hillsdale formerly of Detroit, passed away Monday, September 26, 2004 at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. He was born on October 30, 1930 in Nashville, Tennesee to David and Flora(Hazel) McCarson.

Charles graduated from the Wilbur Wright Vocational Technical Institute in Detroit. He was a executive secretary for the Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 1987 He was the Pastor at the Hillsdale Calvary Temple in Hillsdale at the time of his passing.

Charles is survived by a sister Shirley (Edward) Shafer of Reading; one nephew, Kenneth (Mandie) Shafer of Hillsdale; one niece Shirley (John) Wilkerson of Indianapolis; two great nieces, Hannah & Sarah; great nephew, Seth, special friends, Bertha Mullins and Genny Diccion, and a best friend Bart.

Funeral services for Rev. Charles McCarson will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Hillsdale Calvary Temple with the Rev. Edward Shafer officiating. Interment will follow at the West Reading cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Doris L. Barker
December 1, 1918 - October 5, 2004

Service: Friday, October 8, 2004 @ 11:00 a.m.

Doris L. Barker, age 85, of Osseo and formerly of Roseville, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born December 1, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan to Claude & Mary (Triebert) Harnden. She was married January 5, 1939 to John Burton Barker and he preceded in death in 1988.

Doris had been a resident of Roseville and Shelby Twp. prior to moving to Osseo. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed playing board games and cards. She formerly attended St. Margaret's Church in St. Clair Shores.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Lawrence) Reasoner of Osseo; sons, John (Gaylene) Barker of Armada, Mi. and Timothy (Karen) Barker of Crossville, Tenn.; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren and 4 step great great grandchildren; and also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son, David, a sister and two brothers.

Funeral services for Doris Barker will be Friday, October 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Don Harkey officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

June 7, 1954 - September 18, 2004

Gary R. Bailey, age 50, of Railroad St., Fayette, Ohio passed away Saturday, September 18, 2004, at Toledo Hospital. He was born June 7, 1954 in Montpelier, Ohio to George and Gladys (Siegel) Bailey. He married Connie Bice on January 26, 2003 and she survives.

Gary was a life long Fayette area resident, graduating from Fayette High School in 1973 and was a member of IHRA. He was employed at TRW in Fayette for 33 years and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drag racing.

Surviving Gary besides his wife, Connie are his mother, Gladys Bailey; one daughter, Tonya Bailey; one son, Adam (April) Bailey; three grandchildren, Alexis, Shawna and Tyson; one step-son, Joseph Smith all of Fayette; two brothers, Jerry (Kay) Bailey of Fayette and Allen Bailey of Hudson. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Larry.

Funeral services for Gary Bailey will be Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Mary Jo Bray officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union cemetery in Fayette. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 23, 2004 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Hazel Diane Schmucker
August 12, 1946 - September 27, 2004

Hazel Diane Schmucker, 58, of Hilldale, passed away Monday September 27, 2004 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born on August 12, 1946 in Adrian, Michigan to William and Dorthada (Bice) Beach.

Diane graduated from Hillsdale High School and was a member of the Fayette Street Church of Christ. On January 23, 1966 she married Charles F. Schmucker who survives, also surviving are a daughter, Aleta (Matthew) Houston of Hillsdale; two sons, Charles Schmucker of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Patrick (Jennifer) Schmucker of Paris Island, S. Carolina; two sisters, Pat (Roger) Emmons of Morenci; Linda (Mike) Peters of Tennesee; two brothers, Jerry (Lorranie) Beach of Cement City; Danny (Jeanie) Beach of Irondale, Mo; stepbrother, Nick Beach of Adrian; five grandchildren, Alex and Alisa Martinez, Britney Snay, Amber Houston, and Alex Schmucker. Diane was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services for Diane will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale, officiated by Minister Larry Weller. Interment will follow at the Lakeview cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Helen L. Spangler
February 3, 1926 - September 18, 2004

Helen L. Spangler, 78, of Frontier, Michigan passed away Saturday, September 18, 2004 at home. She was born on February 3, 1926 in Hillsdale to George C. and Iva M. (Howard) Young.

Helen was a graduate of the Frontier High School. On Januray 6, 1945 she married Harold Spangler who preceded her in death in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Arlene, and a brother Howard.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Spangler of Pioneer, Ohio; a sister, Ruth Young of Reading and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Helen Spangler will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Don Harkey officiating. Interment will follow at the Wyllys cemetery in Cambria Township. The family will receive friends Monday, September 20, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

August 10, 1910 - September 25, 2004

Howard A. Woodard, age 94, of Hillsdale, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2004, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born August 10, 1910 in Bankers, Michigan to Hiram & Rose (Bachtol) Woodard.

Howard was retired as a airplane maintenance man and he was a graduate of Hillsdale High School. He was also a Veteran of the U.S. Army from 1936-1939. He had previously resided in Newark, New Jersey and Belen, New Mexico. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Woodard was married August 1, 1940 to Helen Botka and she preceded him in death. Surviving are nieces, Wilamine Apt of Kunkle, Ohio and Loretta Travis of Jackson; he is also survived by many nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

There will be a graveside funeral service for Howard Woodard at Bankers cemetery on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 1:30 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jason Avery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, September 28, 2004 from 12:30 until the time of services at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
