Charles R. Carr, age 62, of Old Town, Florida and formerly of Pittsford, Michigan passed away Sunday, October 31, 2004 at Carr's Furniture and Appliances. He was born September 29, 1942 in Hudson, Michigan to Herbert and Mary (Peiffer) Carr.

Charles previously owned and operated Discount Furniture and Appliances in Hillsdale from 1983 until 1989 and then moved to Old Town, Florida and opened Carr's Furniture and Appliances. He graduated from Pittsford High School in 1961 and was a United States Navy Veteran. Charles was an avid bowler and dearly loved his children and grandchildren.

Surviving Charles are two daughters, Tammy (Rusty) Reynolds of North Adams, Michigan and Charlotte Bandy of Pittsford; two sons, Terry Carr of Jonesville, Michigan and Richard (Sheryl) Carr of Hudson; one sister, Rosemary Smilowski of Jackson, Michigan; three brothers, Jerry L. Carr of Pittsford, Michael H. Carr of San Diego, California and Victor L. (Valorie) Carr of Hudson; twelve grandchildren and special friend, Judy O'steen of Old Town, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dennis R. Carr; one granddaughter, Shantel Renee Reynolds and one great-granddaughter, Skila Bondsteel.

Funeral services for Charles Carr will be Friday, November 5, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Addison United Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Porter officiating. Interment will be at Church's Corner cemetery in Wheatland Township at a later date. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may make memorial contributions to the family.

Christine A. Galloway
January 29, 1953 - November 18, 2004

Christine A. Galloway, age 51, of Hillsdale, died Thursday, November 18, 2004, at her home. She was born January 29, 1953 in Elyria, Ohio to Benjamin & Sylvia (Larsen) Dangerfield. Chris moved to North Reading when she married life-long local, Thomas M. Galloway on June 8, 1974. Together they had three children, Michele of Kalamazoo, James of Hillsdale and Walter of Farmington Hills.

Chris was a 1971 graduate of Elyria, Ohio High School, received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Spring Arbor College and spent the majority of her professional career in service to Hillsdale Community Health Center. Her hobbies include flying, she had a private pilots license, making maple syrup gardening, photography, walking through the woods, sewing, painting and other arts and crafts.

In addition to her husband and children, Chris is survived by brothers, Benjamin, Robert, Douglas (Vicki) and Thomas (Genny) Dangerfield, all of Elyria, Ohio.

Funeral services for Chris Galloway will be Monday, November 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. Thomas Butler officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 22, 2004 from 3-7 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Dawn R. Brehm
August 8, 1960 - November 9, 2004

Dawn R. Brehm, age 44, of Spring St., Fayette, Ohio passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at Midwest Regional Hospital in Zion, Illinois. She was born August 8, 1960 in Hudson, Michigan to Don and Cathy (Baker) Leupp.

She married Ray Fruchey of Fayette and then married Terry Brehm on June 12, 2000.

Dawn was employed at Arrow Tru-Line of Archbold, Ohio for over 20 years. She graduated from Waldron High School in 1978, received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Michigan University and was a member of United Methodist Church in Fayette. Dawn dearly loved her family, enjoyed cross stiching, knitting and was an avid softball player.

Surviving Dawn besides her husband, Terry Brehm of Pioneer, Ohio are one son, Zac Fruchey of Fayette; father and mother, Don (Cathy) Leupp of Waldron, Michigan; maternal grandmother, Mary Baker of Waldron; one sister, Suzan Leupp of Stryker, Ohio; two brothers, Tom Leupp of Coldwater, Michigan and Ted (Angela) Leupp and their children Cody and Brooke of Pittsford, Michigan; five step children, Heather Fruchey, Joyce Beatty, Eric Brehm, April Morris and Tonya Brehm; two step grandchildren, Kody and Kayden Fruchey. Dawn was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Wilford Baker and paternal grandparents, Christ and Hazel Leupp.

Funeral services for Dawn Brehm will be Friday, November 12, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Fayette United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Hopkins officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, November 11, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette.

Donald E. Hoover
July 2, 1958 - November 14, 2004

Donald E. Hoover, 46, of Jonesville, passed away Sunday November 14, 2004 at home. He was born on July 2, 1958 in Hillsdale to Max and Joan (Draper) Hoover.

Donald graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1978. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed four wheeling and was a race car fan.

Donald is survived by his father Max Hoover and step-mother Madilyn Hoover of Hillsdale; a sister, Dawn (Bob) Hoard of Hillsdale; a brother, Darrell (Chris) Hoover of Crossville, Tennessee; a son, Ryan Pauken of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one aunt Joy Draper of Hillsdale; two neices, Anita (Trever) Zimmerman of Pittsford, Michelle (Jeffrey) Kornak of Dearborn; a grandson, Riley; three great nephews, Trevor, Zachary, and Luke, a K-9 companion Konrad.

Donald was preceded in death by his mother Joan.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no services or visitation. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Hillsdale Co. Humane Society. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Daisy Lambright
August 12, 1918-November 12, 2004

Daisy L. Lambright, age 86, of N. Fayette St., Fayette, Ohio passed away Friday, November 12, 2004, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon, Ohio. She was born August 12, 1918, in Alvordton, Ohio to William and Sylvia (Severence) Stahl. She married James F. Lambright and he preceded her in death on September 14, 1980.

Surviving is a daughter, Lori (Carroll) Kern of Fayette; a son, William Lambright of Lindale, Texas; five grandchildren, Pheobie, William, Brandie, Jenny and Autumn; one sister, Irene Mavis of Bryan, Ohio; one brother, Murhl (Donna) Stahl of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, and three brothers.

Graveside services for Daisy Lambright will be Monday, November 15, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant View Union cemetery in Fayette, Ohio. There will be no visitation hours. Local arrangements were entrusted to Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette.

Frank J. DeBacker
January 8, 1925 - November 6, 2004

Frank J. DeBacker, age 79, of Jonesville, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004, at his home. He was born January 8, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to Octave & Bertha (Cornillie) DeBacker.

Frank was owner and operator of White Oaks Dairy Farm in Jonesville. He and his wife Dolores previously lived and farmed in Armada, Michigan and lived in Harper Woods in their early married life. They were in the grocery business in Detroit prior to coming to Armada. Frank was a 1943 graduate of Detroit's De La Salle High School and attended the University of Detroit. He served in the South Pacific as a U.S. Marine during WWII. Frank loved his farm and the land. He was a member of the Michigan Farmers Union. He was also a devout catholic, a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale and an active member of the Michigan Catholic Rural Life Coalition.

Frank was married January 3, 1946 to Dolores Jean Smith and she survives. Also surviving are children, Joanna (Dennis) Crimmins of Livermore, Ca., Frances (Joe) Kertesz of Wilmington, N.C., Matthew (Susan) DeBacker of Roswell, Ga., Susan (Ron) Rusk of Jonesville, Mark (Sarah) DeBacker of Armada, John (Nancy) DeBacker of Marquette, Mary DeBacker of Jonesville and Luke (Mary Jane) DeBacker of Jonesville; 28 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A mass of christian burial will be Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. Thomas Butler as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony cemetery. There will be a prayer vigil service on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 6:00 p.m with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale.

Gretchen Anne Warriner

Gretchen Anne Warriner, age 40 of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2004 in Ohio. She was born September 5, 1964 in Toledo, Ohio to Richard & Colleen Warriner.

Gretchen was a graduate of Hillsdale High School and Riggs Beauty College in Hillsdale. She was the owner and operator of the former Tangles Hair Salon. She presently worked at Hair Harbor in Hillsdale. She was in dancing classes for over 7 years in Coldwater, enjoyed reading, and enjoyed artistic pursuits. She was a member of the Hillsdale First United Methodist Church and The American Legion.

Gretchen is survived by her mother Colleen of Hillsdale; her 2 brothers, Douglas (Martha) Warriner, and Timothy Warriner; 2 nephews, Isaac & Gabriel Warriner.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard and her brother William.

A memorial service in memory of Gretchen Warriner will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at the Hillsdale First United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hillsdale First United Methodist Church or the donor’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Helen L. Schaffner
November 12, 1907 - November 18, 2004

Helen L. Schaffner, age 97, of West Unity, Ohio passed away Thursday, November 18, 2004, at Heartland of Wauseon. She was born November 12, 1907 in Franklin Twp., Ohio to Albert and Clara (Marzolf) Wallace. She married Hubert Schaffner and he preceded her in death in 1989.

Surviving Helen are one son, Milton (Barbara) Schaffner of Waldron, Michigan; five grandchildren, Kristine (Robert) Keiser of Fayette, Colleen (Merritt) Kimball of Worthington, Ohio, Marsha Kutzley, Phil (Chris) Schaffner and Nancy (Jeff) Avina all of Fayette; fifteen great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren; and one sister, Freida Boyer of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services for Helen Schaffner will be Sunday, November 21, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Sam Wickard officiating.
Interment will follow at Pleasant View Union cemetery in Fayette. Visitation will be Saturday, November 20, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Harold W. Vaughn
June 23, 1924 - December 3, 2004

Harold W. Vaughn, age 80, of Osseo, passed away Friday, December 3, 2004 at the Evergreen Manor in Montpelier, Ohio. He was born June 23, 1924 in Lansing, Michigan to Percy & Nettie (Hibbs) Vaughn.

Harold (Smiley) retired from Hillsdale Tool and Manufacturing after 49 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and received an Honorable Discharge. He was a proud American who remained active in the VWF as well as the Veterans Administration. In 1994 he was honored as "Hillsdale County Veteran of the Year".

Harold is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyne Bacon Vaughn and two daughters, Karen (Halbert) Burch of Fremont, Indiana and Pamela (William) Bognar of Osseo; four grandchildren, Laura (Robert) McKinley, Joshua Burch, Jeremy (Stephanie) Bognar and Ethan Bognar and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage, Ruth Ann and David.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Darold and their brother, Wendell.

Funeral services for Harold Vaughn will be Sunday, December 5, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Rev. Ervin A. York officiating. Interment will follow at the Leonardson cemetery in Pittsford. Visitation will be Saturday, December 4, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
