Dr. John Thomas Heath
March 28, 1937 - November 4, 2004

Dr. John Thomas Heath, age 67, of Hillsdale, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2004, at his home. He was born March 28, 1937 in Flint to Ray & Catherine (Lewis) Heath.

Dr. Heath was a longtime dentist in the Hillsdale community, he joined Carl Peggs in his dental practice in 1966. They were later joined by Phillip Hoffman in 1969 to form Hillsdale Dental Associates. Dr. Heath practiced from 1966 until medical retirement in January of 1986. Dr. Heath was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Clark Air Force Base and the Philippine Islands. He attended the University of Michigan undergraduate school was a graduate of the University of Michigan Dental School in 1963. He founded the local chapter of the Sea Scouts and loved sailing, golfing and woodworking. He was a supporter of the Hillsdale Booster Club and was a worker on the Mary Morlock Memorial Dam.

He was married June 22, 1963 to Kay Hofmann and she survives. Also surviving are sons, Greg (Vicky) Heath of Spring Lake, Michigan, Brad Heath of Bellevue, Nebraska and Ryan Heath of Irvine, California; grandson, Evan and step grandsons, Michael and Jacob Vink; a sister, Ann (Thomas) Jordan of Novi; brothers, Larry (Andrea) Heath of Minocqua, Wisconsin and Jim (Beth) Heath of Adrian; a sister in law, Karen (Hank) Baumann of Wilmington, Delaware; and eight nieces and nephews.

A mass of christian burial for Dr. Heath will be Monday at 11:00 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. Thomas Butler as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony cemetery. There will be a prayer vigil service on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Mayo Foundation, St. Anthony Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.

J. L. Mackey
December 20, 1913 - November 8, 2004

J. L. Mackey, 90, of Reading, passed away Monday, November 8, 2004 at the Hillsdale Co. Medical Care Facility. He was born on December 20, 1913 in Lenawee Co., Michigan to Alphonzo and Etta (Delcamp) Mackey. He retired from Daisy Parts in Hillsdale and served in the Army during World War II.

J. L. was married to Marie Miller on June 4, 1940 and she survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Shirley (Terry) Grantz of Frontier; a son, Larry (Pam) Mackey of Hillsdale; two sisters, Marie Lauchlen of Frontier and Imogene Osmun of Springs, Colorado; a brother, Wayne Mackey of Lakeview; four grandchidren, Isaac Mackey, Jody (Marc) Foreman, Crystal (J.R.) VanAkin, Heather (Jason) Bostater and 5 great-grandchildren.

J. L. was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers.

Funeral services for J. L. Mackey will be Thursday, November 11, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Don Harkey officiating. Interment will follow at the Frontier cemetery in Frontier. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 10, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joe Seibers
March 31, 1939 - November 3, 2004

Joe Seibers, 75, of Walnut Court, Morenci passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at the Lynwood Manor in Adrian. He was born on March 31, 1929 in Celina, Tennesse the son of Sam & Lois (Westermoreland) Seibers.

On November 5, 1955 in Angola, Indiana he married Patricia Campbell and she survives.

Joe has lived in Morenci for the past five years. He worked as a welder at General Motors in Grand Blanc for 28 years and he attended the Adrian Church of God.

Besides his wife, Patricia, Joe is survived by a daughter, Liana (Paul) Corrin of Morenci; two granddaughters: Raiana (Shaun) Johns and Christina Benton; one great granddaughter, Emilee Lynn; and one brother, James (Darlene) Westmoreland of Lapeer.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Henderson; and one brother, Fred Seibers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with the Rev. Dave King officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation on Friday, November 5, 2004 from 6-8 p.m.

Koryn Emmons
July 25, 2001 - November 7, 2004

Service: Thursday, November 11, 2004 @ 11:00 a.m.

Koryn Emmons, 3, of North St. Morenci passed away Sunday, November 7, 2004 at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, Ohio. She was born on July 25, 2001 in Adrian the daughter of Jeremie Peters and Amanda Emmons. They both survive.

Besides her parents, Koryn is survived by maternal grandmother, Teresa (Kenneth) Allshouse of Grasslake; maternal grandfather, Leland (Debra) Emmons of Morenci; paternal grandparents, Nancy & Pete Peters of Morenci; great maternal grandparents, Joyce & Marlin Hutchinson of Morenci, Leland & Darlene Emmons of Clayton, and Lavonne Philips of Seneca; and great great maternal grandfather, Kenneth Patten of Harlingen, Texas.

Funeral services for Koryn will be Thursday, November 11, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with the Rev. Darren Lemmon officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Lee A. Foreman
January 28, 1954 - November 17, 2004

Lee A. Foreman, age 50, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born January 28, 1954 in Hastings, Michigan to Rex & Pauline (Finch) Foreman Jr.

Lee was a former employee of Wal-Mart in Jonesville and a graduate of Hastings High School.

He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Foreman of Hillsdale; sons, Duane (Christine) Foreman of Grand Rapids, Shawn Foreman, Lee Foreman II & (Dottie Sponseller) and Jonathan Lanius, all of Hillsdale; former spouses, Lesa Jones and Heidi Foreman; a brother, Richard (Wendy) Foreman of Grand Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rex III.

Memorial services for Lee Foreman will be Monday, November 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Douglas Plunkett officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Grove cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Lawrence J. Russell
May 31, 1920 - November 14, 2004

Lawrence J. Russell, age 84, of Harrison and formerly of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2004, at his home. He was born May 31, 1920 in Adams Twp., Michigan to Orville & Ella (Keefer) Russell.

Lawrence retired from C & N Industries in Mosherville. He was a former resident of Hillsdale and Hudson, a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, a member of the Hannan Colvin Post #180 American Legion in Hudson and a member of the VFW in Harrison.

He was married July 1, 1944 to Wanda Johnston and she survives. Also surviving are daughters, Doris (Bill) Evans of Osseo, Judy (Harry) Webb, Betty Russell & David Nelson, Joyce (Joe) Sanford, all of Hillsdale, Joane Lambright & Bob Covey of Quincy, Patty (Jerry) Ryan of Reading, Sally (George) Meade of Hillsdale, Jean (Rich) Meeker of Lansing, Jane Russsell & Jay Thompson of Harrison; a son, Max (Delores) Russell of Osseo; brothers, Albert (Viola) Russell of Florida and Edward Russell of Hillsdale; 27 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James, two grandsons Mark & Joe II, and a great grandchild.

Funeral services for Lawrence Russell will be Thursday, November 18, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with the Rev. David Tran officiating. Interment with military honors by the Hannan Colvin Post will follow at the Maple Grove cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mabelle M. Francis
January 2, 1912 - November 26, 2004

Mabelle M. Francis, 92, of Pittsford, passed away Friday, November 26, 2004 at home. She was born on January 2, 1912 in LaGrange, Indiana to John and Adeline (Galloway) Stemen.

Mabelle was a clerk at the Andy Adams Auction Sales for many years. She was a member of the Pittsford Liberty Bible Church and the Freedom Farm Senior Citizens group.

On October 7, 1930 she married Rex Francis who preceded her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers, and one grandchild.

Mabelle is survived by four daughters, Yvonne (Herb) Black and Stevania (LaVern) Farrell, both of Pittsford, Shirley Hicks of Osseo, Gayle (Robert) Johnston of Hillsdale; one son John Stemen of Hillsdale; a brother, R.O. Stemen of Montpelier, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 11 great-greatgrandchidren.

Funeral services for Mabelle Francis will be held Monday, November 29, 2004 at 1:00 p.m at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Dr. Samuel Wickard officiating. Interment will follow at the Lickley Corners cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 28, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

January 16, 1933 November 12, 2004

Mary Alice Norton, age 71, of Hillsdale, passed away Friday, November 12, 2004, at her home. She was born January 16, 1933 in Buffalo, New York to William & Sarah (Raeback) Press. She was married Sept. 22, 1961 to Philip Norton and he preceded her in death May 29, 2004.

Mary was a 30 year resident of Hillsdale and a former employee of Dutch Uncle Donuts.

Surviving are daughters, Catherine (Van) Muehlfeld of Blakeslee, Ohio, Barbara (Anthony) Grigg of Adrian and Shelly (Robert) Snow of Jonesville; a son, William (Linda) Close of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her sister.

Funeral services for Mary Norton will be Monday at 1:30 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Dr. August Peters officiating. Interment will follow at the Ray cemetery in Ray, Indiana. Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Nida M. Bemis
November 18, 1905 - November 30, 2004

Nida M. Bemis, age 99, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. She was born November 18, 1905 in Whitman Co., Washington to Henry & Clara (Pickering) Stewart.

Nida was a resident of Hillsdale County the majority of her life. She attended Hillsdale Baptist Church and was a member and Past Chief of the Pythian Sisters.

She was married November 17, 1923 to E. Max Bemis and he preceded her in death May 20, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a son, two sisters, a brother and a granddaughter, Dona.

Surviving is a daughter, Phyllis Sawyer of Jonesville; sons, Donald Bemis of Rogers, Arkansas and Roger Bemis of Grants Pass, Oregon; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren also survive.

There will be a graveside funeral service for Nida Bemis on Friday, December 2, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Northlawn cemetery in North Adams with Dr. August Peters officiating. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
