Donna Brown, age 77, formerly of Hudson, passed away, Tuesday, April 18, 2006, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Manitou Beach, Michigan. She was born on April 13, 1929, in Hudson, Michigan to Howard Norman and Olive Lucille (Harbaugh) Shearer. She married Charles F. Brown on April 10, 1946, in Adrian, Michigan and he preceded her in death on November 2, 2000.

Donna retired from M & S Manufacturing in Hudson with over 30 years of service. She enjoyed collecting dolls, knitting, crocheting, playing bingo and dearly loved her children and grandchildren.

Surviving Donna is her mother, Lucille Willnow of Adrian, Michigan; four daughters, Linda (Byron) Youtsey of Winchester, Tennessee, Vickey (Larry) Akers of Manitou Beach, Michigan, Karen (Gordon) Winch of Morenci, Michigan and Leslie (Earl) Hoffman of Hillsdale, Michigan; two sons, Charles N. (Bonnie) Brown of Houghton, Lake, Michigan and Dennis (Melody) Brown of Hudson, Michigan; two sisters, Norma Bracey of Otter Lake, Michigan and Mary Ellen (Curtis) June of Lakeland, Florida; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren 4 step grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren and several step great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, husband, one granddaughter, Amy Lynn (Winch) Cozart and one step granddaughter, Cathy Vogel.

Funeral services for Donna Brown will be Friday, April 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Fr. H. Paul Ruddy officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Lenawee County.

Donald P. Dietz
October 30, 1946 - May 3, 2006

Donald P. Dietz, age 59, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in Ransom Twp., Michigan. He was born October 30, 1946 in Hudson, Michigan to Lawrence & Roberta (Humbert) Dietz.

Don was a 41 year employee of Hillsdale Tool, a graduate of Pittsford High School in 1964 and a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Vietnam era.

He was married March 19, 1966 to Bonnie Milliman and she survives. Also surviving is a son, Doug (Lora) Glei-Dietz of Hillsdale; three granddaughters, Katlyn, Makenna and Rylie; sisters, Diane (John) Reynolds of Tekonsha and Carol Gaberdiel of North Adams; and an uncle, Paul Hubert of Moorehead City, North Carolina.

Funeral services for Don Dietz will be Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 2:00 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Bobzien officiating. Interment will follow at North Lawn cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends Friday from 5-8 p.m., at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home.

Donald Ray Knapp
December 27, 1941 - May 2, 2006

Donald Ray Knapp, age 64, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born December 27, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio to Chandler & Mary (Bowles) Knapp, she survives in Brooklyn.

Donald was a former produce manager at Kroger Food Store, a graduate of Brooklyn High School and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Andrea (Larry) Bricker of Camden and Debbie (Scott) Green of Post Falls, Idaho; grandchildren, Megan, Chelsea, Ashley and Tanner Bricker and Austin & Shelly Green; a sister, Linda (Dorr) Schuette of Brooklyn; brothers, Jim (Sharon) Knapp of Brooklyn and Mike (Betty) Knapp of Somerset.

He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Leslie.

Funeral services for Donald Knapp will be Friday, May 5, 2006 at 1:30 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Fr. Thomas Butler as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30-8::30 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home.

Edith M. Hufnagle
May 30, 1915 - April 30, 2006

Edith M. Hufnagle, age 90, of Hillsdale, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, April 30, while surounded by her family. She was born, May 30, 1915 in Lenawee County to Charles and Ella Mae (Kennedy) Willnow. On June 4, 1965, she married Rollo R. Hufnagle and he preceded her in death in 2005.

Edith worked as a waitress, and then at the Hillsdale Community Health Center in the x-ray department. She was a member of El Bethel Church and the Panda Bear Camping Club.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Clark of Hillsdale, Judith (David) Long of Adrian and Barbara (Ron) Maloney of Ft. Wayne; one son, Douglas (Marilyn) Hufnagle of Sagamore Hills, Ohio; 21 grandchildren, and many great and great great grandchildren. Edith is also survived by two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rollo, three sisters and one brother.

The funeral service for Edith Hufnagle will be Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor David Spriggs officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to make a donation to Hospice of Hillsdale.

Earle B. Slagle
June 24, 1946 - April 14, 2006

Earle B. Slagle, age 59, of Hillsdale, passed away Friday, April 14, 2006, at her home. She was born June 24, 1946, in Hillsdale to Hebden & Winnifred (Blythe) Corsan.

Earle was a graduate of North Adams and worked for many years at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. Earle was very active on the internet, where she had made many good friends over the years.

She is survived by two sisters, Winnifred (Robert) Emeterio and Honora (Doug) Cartee all of Hillsdale. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Sean Scott, Robert Hagerman II, and Peggy Hood; and two great nephews, Brandon & Mathew Lewis.

At the request of Earle, cremation has taken place. There will be no service or visitation. Arrangements are by the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Memorial donations can be made to the Greater Hillsdale Humane Society.

Juanita Shoemaker, age 80, of Coomer Street, Morenci passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Herrick Memorial Hospital in Tecumseh. She was born on February 4, 1926, in Morenci the daughter of Jonas & Mildred (Metcalf)Speelman. On February 9, 1946, in Weston she married Oney Shoemaker. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1990.

Juanita was a homemaker living all of her life in the Morenci area. She was a member of the Seneca Community Church and a member of the Morenci
Millinery Mavens.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (James) Baker of Clinton and Jaclynn (Ralph Jr.) Reckner of Morenci; two sons, Dennis (Norma) Shoemaker of Morenci and Larry (Vicki) Shoemaker of Morenci; two granddaughters, Erica (Kyle) Kruse and Marisa (Tyler) Sutherland; seven grandsons, Brian and Gregory Shoemaker, Daryn (Heather) Baker, Devyn Baker, Jason (Amy) Reckner, Curtis (Sharilyn) Shoemaker, and Dustin (Jenny) Reckner; ten great-grandchildren, Brett and Joshua Baker, Emily, Rebekah, and Rachel Shoemaker, Hannah, Collin, and Emma Reckner and Destini and Ty Kruse; three sisters, Ella Barnhart of Adrian, Betty Pfund of Morenci, and Florence "Dutch" Lane of Hudson; and four brothers, Arthur "Boze" Speelman of Morenci, Earl "John" Speelman of Morenci, Wade "Popeye" Speelman of Fayette, Ohio, and Eugene "Gene" Speelman of Adrian.

Besides her husband, Oney, Juanita was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Flora Montague.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Seneca Community Church.

Mary S. Constable
September 6, 1913 - April 8, 2006

Mary Constable, age 92, of Naperville, Illinois, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the Tabor Hills Nursing Home in Naperville. She was born on September 6, 1913, in L'Anse, Michigan, the daughter of David and Anna Koponen. She married William L. Constable in 1937, in Angola, Indiana. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1958.

Mary was a homemaker living all but about ten years in the Chicago area.

Survivors include a son, William D. (Susan) Constable of Naperville, Illinois; a daughter, Diana Constable Davis of Kelseyville, California; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, William, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenneth; three sisters and four brothers.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, Michigan with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cupertino Home, 3 S 570 Warren Ave., Warrenville, Illinois, 60555.

M. Juanita Kies
September 24, 1929 - April 27, 2006

M. Juanita Kies, age 76, of Hillsdale passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006, at her home. She was born September 24, 1929, in Hillsdale County to Evan & Margaret Evans. On April 6, 1968 she married Leo Kies and he survives.

Juanita worked at Addison Products for 23 years and was a member of the Cambria Baptist Church. She was a quilter, loved to golf, bowl and go to garage sales.

She is survived by her husband, Leo, four daughters, Laurie Wilkerson of Moscow, Susan (Sonny) Miller of Defiance, Ohio, Cindy Nichols of Pittsford, and Andi Fry of Katy, Texas; and two sons, Tim Fry of Newberry, FL, and Randy (Tammy) Fry of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn (Marion) Kies of Moscow and Sally Young of Rolland, MI; and two brothers, Dick (Judy) Truitt of Arizona and Sam Horton of Moscow.

She was preceded by her parents, a daughter Sandy, one grandchild, one sister and nine brothers.

A graveside service for Juanita Kies will be Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Aldrich cemetery on Waldron Road officiated by Pastor Don Harkey. Visitation will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to make a donation to Hospice of Hillsdale.
