ROHRIG, MARIE A. (nee Karrer) She was born on October 6, 1906 and died on March 14, 2001. She died in a nursing home in Lecanto, FL, where her only child James T. Rohrig lives with his son (and Her grandson) Thomas J. Rohrig. She is survived by her only child, James T. Rohrig, five (5) grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was active in many civic and church related organizations and was a longtime member of Queen of Peace Church in Harper Woods. She will be buried in Florida. SMITH, CLAIRE, of East Lansing. Age 90, died March 22, 2001. Born June 7, 1910 in Los Angeles, CA. Claire served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at the First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, MI. She was a long-time Girl Scout leader with a devotion to sharing nature with her scouts, an avid bridge player, reader and lover of all animals. Her husband William preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters; Joan C. Smith of East Lansing and Cheryl Shewach (Melvyn) of West Bloomfield, MI. Three grandchildren; Eric (Bonnie) Wardowski, Neal Gazzeny (Fiancee, Nicole Vrable) and Erin Gazzeny (Fiance, Steven LaPointe). Services will be at a later date. SWEET, SHIRLEY P., Of Ann Arbor, formerly of Chelsea. Died Thursday morning, March 22, 2001 at Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor. Shirley was born April 10, 1914, the daughter of the late Elam and Elsie (Case) Payne in Cloverdale, MI. On March 14, 1942 she married Maxwell G. Sweet in Napoleon, Ohio. She served as a Major in the US Army Nurse Corps in World War II, commanding the nursing staff of the 166th General Hospital. She received her nurses training at Lansing s Sparrow Hospital, and retired from Harper Hospital in Detroit. Mrs. Sweet was a member of Ann Arbor Women s City Club and the First Presbyterian Church. Those who love and miss her include her daughter, Rebecca Glenn Sweet and her husband Roland Loup, and her daughter Summer Alexis Sweet; son, William Mosure Sweet; son, Robert Elam Sweet, Aaron Maxwell Sweet and Nicholas William Sweet; all of Ann Arbor; brother Arlon "Bud" Payne of Aiken, S.C.; sister Norma Lucko of Dearborn; brother Gordon Payne of Elyria, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband and her brother Paul Payne. Funeral will be Monday, March 26, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Chelsea with Rev. Richard Dake and Rev. Fond grandfather of 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Brother to one brother and two sisters. Mr. Thomas had been employed at the Hydromatic/Powertrain Plant in Ypsilanti for 40 years.
