SHUNCK, WILLIAM A., At his home in Sarasota, Fla., March 28, 1999. He began his career in education in 1927 at Schoolcraft School and in 1932 became superintendent of schools in Bloomfield Hills, leaving there to serve in the Navy (1942-1945) where he saw combat duty in the Pacific. He was superintendent of schools of Waterford Township 1945-1962, and superintendent of Wayne County Intermediate School District 1962-1972. He moved to Sarasota in 1972. During his long career in education he was recognized for his constructive approach to the solution of community problems and his ability to promote key legislation for those left out of the education system, particularly the mentally handicapped and the economically disadvantaged. His concern for justice led him to initiate the Desegregation Advisory Project in Wayne County and legislation to assure equalization of expenditure for education. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Delta Kappa, American Assoc. of School Administrators, Michigan Assoc. of School Administrators (past president), National Education Assoc., Wayne County Public Library Board, USS Bataan Assoc. Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Reardon of Silver Spring, MD, and Sarah Ozturk of Falls Church, VA, a son, Peter of Sarasota; five grandchildren, and four great- grand- hildren. A memorial service will be held in Sarasota, Fla. on April 16. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory be made to the Children s Defense Fund, 25 E. Loving grandfather of ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Sonja Ryciak, Irene Mapes, Maximilian Iskra and the late Edward and Albert. Mr. Iskra enjoyed his time as an avid gardener, golfer and fisherman. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Parish for 60 years and assisted seniors with their income tax preparation for 20 years. A toolmaker by trade for 45 years, he was very active in the Toolmaker s Union. He was always one to give generously of his time and talents. Mr. Iskra will lie in state Monday 9:30 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Church til time of Mass 10 a.m. Interment St. Hedwig cemetery. Visitation will be at the Jarzembowski Funeral Home, 18957 W. LIEBOLD, MARTHA, of Fort Myers, Fl., formerly of Dearborn, died April 5, 2000 in Fort Myers. Born in Memphis, TN on April 11, 1925. Martha is survived by her husband of 53 years, William H. Liebold I; four sons, William H. II, Allan R., Karl B. and Scott E. Liebold. Daughters-in-law Camilla, Janet, Debbie and Kris. Martha was a devout Lutheran who participated in church activities all her life, and while a Dearborn resident she was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
