POPOFF, VICTOR D., 77, passed away to our God in Heaven on March 31, 2001 after a long battle with leukemia. He was a highly decorated Air Force pilot and flew 445 combat missions over the Himalayas. He received the Air Medal, Distinguised Flying Cross and Medal of Honor. He graduated from Wayne State University and earned his Masters Degree from Indiana Northern Univeristy. He always had a smile and hello for everyone he met. Vic fought a brave fight and overcame many odds thro his life and illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna and his children, Dan (Cecelia), Michele (Larry) Sturzenegger, Vicki (Tom) Williams, Rick (lisa), Rob (Colleen) and sisters Katy Dimitroff & Vera Kizoff. He was Dedo to 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services were held on Marco Island, FL April 7th. SCHULTZ, ERIC H., 89, of Largo, FL, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Morton Plant Hospital in FL. Born in Essen, Germany, but has resided in the U.S. for over 87 years. Formerly of Detroit, MI. He worked at Packard Motor Car Co. during the war years, and owned a restaurant business for many years. He eventually retired as vice president of a leading Michigan roofing contracting firm. He is a 32nd degree mason. He also spent many years singing with the Barbershoppers, and is past president of the Michigan District of the SPEBSQSA. He is survived by his wife, Esther of 26 years; his brother, Fred of Bay City, MI; sons Eric Jr. of Rochester, MI, Robert of San Diego, CA; daughter, Darlene of Sarasota, FL. He also leaves 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is survived also by 5 stepchildren. Interment will be in Clearwater, FL.

SHAVER, NORINE HELEN (nee Dasher) Last surviving grandchild of the Downriver pioneer Fredrich Dasher, passed away suddenly Wednesday, April 4, 2001 in Stonewall, Manitoba, Canada. Born March 5, 1908 to George Dasher and Ida Wiegert in present-day Melvindale, MI. Norine received her schooling at the early one-room Dasher School, built on property donated by her family. She would see many milestones in her community from the coming of electricity, the end of WWI while a young school girl, the 1918 flu which she survived, and the incorporation and booming growth of Melvindale. She and her family were market gardeners with three generations working the land at times. She met her husband, Cy Shaver, at the then newly-built Dasher High School and would follow him back to his native Canada where she would raise a family of five. She was predeceased by her husband Cy in 1960, son Ronald in 1982, daughter Joanne in 1983. Left to cherish her memory are her sons George (Irene), Allen (Ruth) and daughter Shirley. WHIDDON, OSLIN D., Of Ann Arbor, MI. Age 81, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2001. Mr. Whiddon was born on December 30, 1919 in Tifton, Georgia. He graduated from Georgia Tech University and moved to Michigan where he worked for Detroit Edison. Mr. Whiddon retired as Vice-president of Strategic Planning after 37 years of service. He is survived by his wife Shirley, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Three children; David Whiddon, Diane Whiddon, and Richard (Pamela) Whiddon as well as six grandchildren and two sisters. The family will receive friends at the NIE FUNERAL HOME, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 from 2-4 PM and 5-7 PM with the funeral service at 7 PM. Burial will follow in Georgia.
