GRIIFIN, EVERETT, A., Ph.D. Died at home Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2002. Age 61. Dr. Griffin taught at Northwestern High School in Detroit. Everett graduated from River Rough H.S. in June of 1959. He earned a Ph.D. in Metaphysics from the U. of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Dr. Griffin was an advid sportsman who guided River Rouge H.S. to two Class B. Basketball State Championships. PFALZER, REVEREND JUVENAL CARL, OFM Age 86, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at Mercy Franciscan Terrace in Cincinnati, Ohio. survived by a sister, Helen Kern of Louisville, KY, brothers, Reverend Roman Pfalzer, OFM of Cincinnati, OH and Reverend Miles Pfalzer, OFM of Easton, PA. Preceded in death by a brother, John Pfalzer of Louisville, KY. Entered The Order Of Friars Minor August 16, 1934 and ordained to the Priesthood June 12, 1942. Family and friends are invited to join the Franciscans of St. John The Baptist Province for the Reception of the Body, 9 a.m. Saturday, March 9th at St. Clement Church, 4536 Vine Street, St. Bernard, OH with Mass of Christian burial following at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary cemetery, St. Bernard, OH. The Imwalle Memorial Funeral Home serving the Franciscans.

SZYMANEK, EUGENE JOSEPH 79, died Tuesday March 5, 2002 of Harrison Township. He was born Nov. 15, 1922 in Hamtramck. Mr. Szymanek, a Hamtramck High School graduate, worked with a local Detroit architect and was also a small business owner in Hamtramck for more than two decades. He retired in 1995 from WISNE-PICO Automation and formerly worked at Sherwood Industries. He served as an Intelligence Specialist in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II and served in the Paupan, Luzon, New Guinea and Southern Phillipine campaigns. He received a distinguished unit Badge, good conduct Medal, Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, seven Overseas Bars and one Service Stripe. Relatives described him as a charming man with an engaging sense of humor who enjoyed being near the water, boating, fishing and hunting. They also said that his passion was in the field of design and architecture. He is survived by his daughters, Shirley (John) Wallace of Texas, Diane (Mike) Bair of Michigan, Margaret Szymanek-Martin of Virginia and Linda Bennett of Victoria, Australia. His sister Dorine (Ted) Kramp & Rosemary (Fred) Hartman and his brother John Szymanek Jr. His grandchildren Abbie, Matthew, Caitlin, Darin, and Brad (deacesed). His great grandchildren Emily, Zachary, Cody, Justine and Brad. Pre-deceased by his parents John & Katherine Szymanek. Visitation Sat 5-9PM, Sun 1-9PM. WOODS, MICHELLE G., Of Essexville, Michigan. Daughter of the late Gerald F. and Virginia Hannaford, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at Bay Medical Center. Age 42 years. Michelle G. Hannaford was born December 18, 1959 in Detroit. She was married to Dean D. Woods on August 25, 1984. He survives her. Michelle had been employed by Mutual Savings and Loan for many years and was currently employed by Edward Jones Investments. She was a member of the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club. Michelle enjoyed music, theater, the ballet and was an avid reader. She loved her pets Scooter and Lily. Surviving besides her husband are two brothers and one sister and their spouses, Philip and Glenda Hannaford of Virginia Beach, VA, Jan and Tom Haselschwerdt of Lansing, Tony Hannaford of Waterford, her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Dr. DeVere D. Woods Jr. of Terre Haute, IN, Sarah and Tom Greene of Essexville, her mother and father-in-law DeVere D. and Ida Woods Sr. of Hampton Township, grandparents-in-law DeVere A. and Wilma Woods of Hampton Township, many nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to her; Chris, Shane, Elizabeth, Michael, David, Stephen, Christopher, Matthew, Kate, Cory and Tommy. The Funeral Service will take place 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2002 at the Stapish Cederberg Funeral Home East, 955 Pine, Essexville, MI. Rev. Gerald E. Balwinski will officiate with burial to follow in Floral Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 7-9 p.m., on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
