BURKOFF, STANLEY THOMAS 80, a resident of Highland Beach, Florida, and the retired President of W.B. Doner & Company, an international advertising agency with its principal office in Detroit, MI, died at home on May 10, 2001. Mr. Burkoff, who served in the Army Judge Advocate General Crops during World War II, earned his Bachelor of Arts and Law degrees from Northwestern University. Prior to joining W.B. Doner & Company as Creative Director in 1963, Mr. Burkoff held the position of Creative Director at Young & Rubicam Advertising in Toronto, Ontario, and Copy Chief at Doyle Dane Bernbach Advertising in New York City. Mr. Burkoff was the author of Short Tall Bridge Tales: Funny Stories About Tricky Hands, and numerous essays and short stories. He earned Life Master status in the American Contract Bridge Association. In addition to numerous other civic and charitable activities, Mr. Burkoff was a Charter Member of the Birmingham Temple, a humanistic Judaism congregation in Detroit, Michigan; a former President of the Franklin Hills Country Club in Franklin, Michigan; and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Henry Ford and Sinai Hospitals in Detroit. Stanley Burkoff is survived by his wife, Joyce Switow Burkoff; his three children, John (Nancy) Burkoff of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Barbara Burkoff Dale of Baltimore, Maryland, Sara (David) Burkoff Owens of St. Louis, Missouri; his seven grandchildren, Amy (Sean) Burkoff Kelley of Chicago, Illinois, David Burkoff of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Andrew Dale of Farmington, Connecticut, Christopher Owens and Daniel Owens of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Katharine Owens and Elizabeth Owens of St. Louis; his great-granddaughter, Emma Burkoff Kelley of Chicago; his sister, Maxine Burkoff Jordan of Pembroke Pines, Florida and his sister-in-law, Marjorie (Max) Fisher of Palm Beach, Florida and Franklin, Michigan.
