ASHER-DIBNER, URSULA Age 74, of Sarasota, FL, died January 9, 2001. She was born in Tilsit, Germany (now Russia) on October 8, 1926. She immigrated to the United States in 1952 crossing the Atlantic on the troop transport ship, the "General Hershey." A graduate of Wayne State University and the University of Michigan, she received her Ph.D. in European History in 1969 and subsequently taught on the Dearborn campus. She was a member of the Great Lakes Yacht Club in St. Clair Shores, MI and the Genocide Study Group of Detroit. In 1983 she made Longboat Key her home and became affiliated with the Sarasota Opera as a volunteer and lectured on Music, Opera and History. She was pre-deceased by her husbands, Richard Dibner and Frank Asher. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Maureen) Dibner of Royal Oak, MI and Michael Dibner of Dayton, OH; a brother Juergen Brockert of Germany; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild. BABCOCK, ROBERT LaDUE, JR. Age 85, of Port Richey, FL, passed away on January 9, 2001 at his residence. Born in Little Falls, NY, Mr. Babcock moved to Florida in 1986 from Redford Township, MI. Mr. Babcock was retired from Chrysler Corporation in Detroit after working there 50 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his son, Robert L. Babcock, III (Karen) of Grosse Pointe Park, MI; two daughters, Joyce C. Kent (James) of Northville, MI and Garet Babcock of Novi, MI; a brother, Frederick Babcock of Dearborn Heights, MI; and two grandchildren, Robert L. Babcock, IV and Elise L. BELA, MARY G., Her age forever a family secret, of Grand Rapids and formerly of Birmingham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2001 at Oak Crest Manor after an extended illness. Mary was born in Detroit and attended Wayne State University. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam A. Bela, on June 6, 2000, and by a sister, Catherine Pawlowski. She leaves behind her children, Catherine "Kitty" Bela, Andrew Bela, Nancy and Thomas Boomer, JoAnne Melton, all of Grand Rapids; her two grandsons, Eric and Tony Melton, whom she loved to spend time with; brother-in-law, Ed Pawlowski of Northville. Mary was an accomplished bridge player, an avid golfer and took great delight in their rose garden. She greatly enjoyed the overseas travels that she took with her beloved Sam. Her loving memory will remain forever to all who were touched by her. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr. SE, (please meet at church). Interment at Holy Cross cemetery. ECHOLS, DELPHIN H., Died January 11 at Boulevard Temple Retirement Community. Mr. Echols was born in Sparta, Georgia on February 4, 1907. He attended Paine College in Agusta, Georgia before coming to Detroit in 1927. He and his beloved wife of 41 years, Portia Mae Nichols of Dixon, Kentucky, were long time residents on John R St. Mrs. Echols died in 1975. GAGLIO, JACK, Age 92. January 11, 2001. Beloved husband of the late Rose (nee Siragusa). Loving father of Roy (Marjorie), Annette (Ben) Locricchio and Benny (Linda). Proud grandfather of Perry, Philip (Lisa), Kathryn (Christopher) Tzetzo, Linda (Michael) Cook, Rosanne Locricchio, Laura (Sean) O Brien, Regina (John) Kramer and Jeffrey (Melissa).
