POTTER, WILLIAM C., Age 79, passed away February 17, 2002, in Venice, Florida due to kidney failure. Mr. Potter was born in Detroit, Michigan on Jan. 16, 1923. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Marian, sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Sheila Potter of Troy, MI, Jeff and Sue Potter, Birmingham, MI with grandsons Ted and Josh Potter, and Lance B. Potter, Chicago, IL. Also surviving is a brother, George Potter, living in Ft. Meyers, Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, after having graduated from Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy, New York, as an ensign. He served in World War II on an oil tanker in the South Pacific. He continued his education following the war in the engineering school at the University of Michigan, graduating in the class of 1947 E where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. He became a registered Professional Engineer, member of ASHRAE and was the co-founder of his own company, Potter-Claiborn-Geelhood, Mechanical Engineers, Troy, Michigan. In past years, he was a member of the Grosse Pointe Hunt Club and an active member of the Grosse Pointe United Church where he served as usher and trustee. Presently, he was a member of the Senior Mens Club of Grosse Pointe. Saturdays in the fall found him enthusiastically rooting for U. of Michigan football. He was particularly fond of spending time at Glen Lake where the Potters have a summer home. A memorial service will be held in Grosse Pointe United Church, 240 Chalfonte, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan on Friday, March 15, 2002 at 2:30 PM. Cremation took place in Venice, Florida. His remains will be inurned at the church's Columbarium Garden at a later date. Any memorial contributions can be made to the Grosse Pointe United Church or the American Heart/Stroke Association.
