BERDESKI, LOUIS, Age 84. Died May 27, 1998 at his home in Alanson. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 1, at Holy Cross Church in Cross Village. The Rev. Albert Langhelm, O.F.M., will be the celebrant. Burial will take place in Holy Cross cemetery in Cross Village. Mr. Berdeski, the sixth child and only son of Mary Louise Keller and Joseph Issac Berdeski, was born Feb. 6, 1914 on the family farm on Beckon Road in Cross Village. Following the 1930 death of his father; he and his mother lived and worked in Harbor Springs and Petoskey. During the Depression; Louie worked as a cook in the Civilian Conservation Corps., as a cook on Gray s Reef Lighthouse, and about 1938, went to the Detroit area where he started his career as a machinist. On June 29, 1940 he married the former Genevieve Krystof of Cross Village and he worked for Packard Motor Car Co., which was engaged in the production of war materials. Following World War II the family returned to the family farm in Cross Village. In 1952 they lived on the Harbor-Petoskey Road and Louie worked for Zumbaugh Painters. In 1953 Louie went back to Packard Motor Car Co., to resume his career as a machinist. The family sold their Harbor Springs home in 1954 and moved to Hamtramck and then to Warren. In 1954, Louie worked at the Chrysler Jet Plant. He finished his career as a machinist and general maintenance employee at the Julian Aluminum Foundry in Detroit, retiring in 1979. He and Genevieve moved to Alanson in 1983. Survivors include five children: Phillip Berdeski and his wife Nina of San Diego, CA; Richard and his wife Angie of Palm Harbor, FL; Alan and his wife Bunny of Sterling Hts.; Shirley Gillis and her husband Phil of Asheville, N.C.; and Audrey Osmak and her husband Dan of Clawson; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one sister Faye Foss of Harbor Springs. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ann Krussell, Frances Crandall, Agnes Berdeski and Rose Laisure. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay. Envelopes for memorials will be available at Schiller Funeral Chapel of Harbor Springs, where visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, May 31. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
