GILBREATH, JOHN S., Traverse City, John S. Gilbreath, 98 of Traverse City, formerly of Chicago and Detroit, died Sunday October 29, 2000. Born September 2, 1902, in New York City, N.Y., he was the son of William Sydnor and Wilhelmenia (Schaff) Gilbreath. In 1937 John married Louise A. Johnson in Crown Point, Ind. who preceded him in death in 1984. He worked as an accountant for Price-Waterhouse and Ford Motor Company for many years before retiring in 1965. John lived an inquisitive life. He was an avid reader and loved music. Survivors include two sons, Stephen (Lauran) Gilbreath of Northport and John S. "Jack" (Karen) Gilbreath Jr. of Ann Arbor, and a daughter, Susan (Lee) Lane of OOstburg, Wis., formerly of Evanston, Ill. John was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Sydnor Gilbreath Jr. Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled. Memorials may be directed to Interlochen Arts Academy or the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Home.

SHIELDS, WINIFRED EVA 99 of Boyne City, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2000. Winifred taught English in several different schools including Iron Mountain, Lansing and Detroit. Survivors include one daughter, Muriel Shields Kelly of Hudson, OH, Douglas Shields of Boyne City, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.
