HODGES, HELEN M., 69. Long time resident of Garden City. passed away April 7, 1999 in Wichita Falls TX. She retired from Fisher Body, Livonia in 1987 after 25 years of service. Surviving are one sister, Clara O'Steen, four children; Richard Handy, Joseph Alan Garrett, Donna Gray and Keith Hodges, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew. She will be greatly missed.

MONRO, ALBERT JAMES, 90, of San Luis Obispo died Thursday, March 25, 1999 at a San Luis Obispo, California hospital. A private family service was held Sunday, March 28 in Grover Beach, California. Mr. Monro was born October 13, 1908 in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to San Luis Obispo, Calif. in September of 1993 from Carmel, Calif., where they had lived sixteen years. Mr. Monro managed Wolverine Moving & Storage in Detroit for many years. He is survived by a daughter: Trudy Monro of Redondo Beach, Calif; two sons; William Monro and wife, Lois, of Augusta, Georgia, and Michael Monro and wife, Vivian, of San Luis Obispo, Calif; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren. Mr. Monro was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Belle Monro, on November 24, 1994. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be made to the Salvation Army. OGLESBY, JACOB DR. REVEREND Former Pastor of Greater Baptist Church, passed away Sunday evening, April 4, 1999 in Clinton, South Carolina. Dr. Oglesby was a Giant among men, and was admired by ministers locally and nationally. His love for God, honesty and moral integrity was evident to all that knew him. His personal motto was "Follow me as I endeavor to follow Christ". Dr. Oglesby was a very charitable, good hearted and unselfish person, his every thought was how he could help others. He and his wife (the late Anne H. Oglesby) raised two of his oldest sister s daughters, Margaret and Barbara Ann Coffey, and sponsored and supported about eighteen (18) other children which included nieces, nephews and African children. Dr. Oglesby was founder and Pastor of The Greater Christ Baptist Church located at 3544 Iroquois, on the corner of Mack Avenue, for twenty (20) years. Along with 204 committed Christians, the church was organized in November 1956 and "Where God Guides, He Always Provides" was adopted as the church motto. For twenty-six months the church held services at Burns Avenue Seventh Adventist Church. Under Dr. Oglesby s leadership Greater Christ Baptist Church moved into its present edifice, in February 1959 and on June 27, 1965, the mortgage was burned. The Slocum Mission Station in Kakata, Liberia, West Africa, under the leadership of Mother Julia Slocum, was adopted as the foreign mission project. Dr. Oglesby was led by God to leave The Greater Christ Baptist Church to pursue a full-time teaching career and accepted a professorship at Payne Theological Seminary in Zenia, Ohio. He later pastored First Baptist Church in Brownville, Tennessee. Dr. Oglesby was given an honorary title of Pastor Emeritus of The Greater Christ Baptist Church. The first Sunday in October of each year was designated as Jacob C. Oglesby Day. The last few years of Dr. Oglesby s life was spent in the loving care of his niece, Dr. Barbara Ann Medley and her family in Clinton, South Carolina. Funeral services will be held at Greater Christ Baptist Church on Saturday, April 10, 1999, 10 a.m. family hour and 11 a.m. funeral services.

PIANKO, MARTIN, Age 67, of West Bloomfield, Michigan passed away in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on Wednesday, April 7, 1999. Mr. Pianko was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 24, 1931, son of the lake Jack Pianko and Sally Polasky Pianko. Mr. Pianko leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Patricia Gioia Pianko; one brother, Harvey Pianko, of Royal Palm Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 to 9 pm Sunday April 11, 1999 at McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 31950 West 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills where services will be held on Monday, April 12, at 11 am with Ministers Rev. Tullio LaCivita and Rev. Sam DiFalco officiating. Interment will follow at Machpelah cemetery, Royal Oak.

Proud grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of nine. Loved aunt of many nieces and nephews. Retired from GM Tech Center with 19 years of dedicated service. Member of Zion Lutheran Church.
