MURPHY, DONALD P., Born in Detroit, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 1998 in Algonac at the age of 62, close to the water and the animal life that he loved so well. Known as Murf to his friends, he lived life his way from an early age. Joining his father, Desmond Murphy, Don entered the car business as a teenager at Murphy Motor Sales. After a tour of duty in Korea with the U.S. Army, Don returned and with hard work and dedication opened his own dealership, Don Murphy Chevrolet. Over twenty five years ago, he sold his dealership and has been working with DuBois selling chemicals ever since. Active in the community, Don served as a member of the Downriver Community Board of Directors. After moving to Algonac eighteen years ago, he served as a Trustee for Clay Township as well as being a member of their Tax Review Board and Planning Board. Don is survived by his wife, Suzanne Bambauer Murphy, his son, Dave Smoot, his daughter Kimberlee Murphy Clark, his granddaughter, Andrea Smoot, and his sister, Margaret Murphy Penoyer. Visitation will be held aT Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack in Grosse Pointe Woods, from 12:00 to 9:00PM on Friday, February 13th and from 12:00 to 2:00PM on Saturday, February 14th.
