Arlene Harriet Jorve, 74, Sleepy Eye, formerly of Halstad, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home in Morgan. Funeral services were held Monday, July 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, and a memorial service was held Tuesday, at Halstad Lutheran Church, with interment in Halstad City Cemetery.
Arlene was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Halstad, the daughter of Alfred and Hazel (Hammer) Jorve. She was baptized and confirmed at Halstad Lutheran Church. Arlene attended the Halstad Public School. She lived with her mother and in later years, helped take care of her mother and brother. Arlene did child care for several years while in Halstad. She moved to Sleepy Eye in November of 1993 to live with her sister, Alda. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, WELCA, and the Quilting Group. She was a past member of Halstad Lutheran Church and the Halstad American Legion Auxiliary, where she was an active member for many years. Arlene enjoyed handiwork such as embroidering and cross stitching tablecloths, bedspreads, pillow cases and several items to share with family and friends. She especially enjoyed going to plays, family gatherings, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Arlene is survived by her sisters, Hjordis Skugrud of Rothsay, and Alda Rydin of Sleepy Eye; nieces and nephews, Virginia and husband Michael Sluess and children, Eric and Sarah of Alexandria, Ann Marie Rydin and husband Edward Krogness and children, Johanne and Anil of Seattle, Wash., Karen and husband Paul Schroeder and children, Alison, John, Leah, Ashly and Samuel of Redwood Falls, Elizabeth and husband Todd Hoffman and children, Joren and Kyle of Mendota Heights, Roger and wife Karen Skugrud and children, Bjorn, Karlyn and Jacob of Fountain City, Wisc., and special cousin, Joy Toso of Rothsay. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred in 1931; mother Hazel in 1993; brothers, Donald in 1944, and Robert in 1993; brothers-in-law, Erling Skugrud in 1992 and John Rydin in 1989; and nephew John Skugrud in 1996.
Casket bearers were Eric Sluess, Todd Hoffman, Mark Skugrud, Michael Sluess, Edward Krogness, Roger Skugrud and Paul Schroeder.

Elmo Braton Bowman, 82, of Comfrey, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Bashaw Township, Brown County. Funeral services, with military rites conducted by Comfrey American Legion Post 244, were held Monday, July 23, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey, with interment in Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Comfrey. Arrangements were handled by Sturm Funeral Home of Springfield.
Elmo was born March 5, 1919, in Bashaw Township, Brown County, to Elmer and Alma (Rapp) Bowman. He attended District 59 country school. Elmo served in the U.S. Army/Airforce from May 1942, until his discharge in December, 1946, working as a mechanic in Texas and California. He returned to farm on the home place with Floyd, until his retirement in 1993. Elmo enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching baseball and other sports on T.V., and especially auto racing. He was a long time member of Albin Johnson American Legion Post 244 of Comfrey, and a lifetime member of New Hope Lutheran Church, formerly Faith Lutheran Church, in Comfrey.
Elmo is survived by sisters, Mae Schwab of Sleepy Eye and Amy Bowman of Mankato; brothers, James and wife Carol Bowman of Brooklyn Center and Floyd Bowman of Comfrey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fred.
Casket bearers were Lee Bowman, Thad Bowman, Mark Bowman, Scott Bowman, Shelley Schwab, Doug Schwab and Bruce Bowman.

Alice M. Heckler, 96, of Morgan, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home in Morgan. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 24, at United Methodist Church in Morgan, with interment in the Morgan City Cemetery. Nelson-Martin Funeral Home of Morgan handled the arrangements.
Alice Mabel Heckler was born Sept. 18, 1904, in Eden Township, Brown County, to Ferd and Lenora (Pretzer) Gluth. She resided with her family in Eden Township and attended country school District 35 in Eden Township. She married John L. Heckler at the Methodist Church in Eden Township on Feb. 14, 1934. John later died in 1937 and she continued to live in Eden Township until 1945, when she moved to Morgan, where she lived until her death. Alice was a homemaker and worked on the farm most of her life. She also did restaurant work and was a janitor at the Methodist church for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Morgan, the Ladies Aid, and the Morgan Ladies Extension Club. Alice enjoyed cut work, needlepoint, gardening, and cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was famous for her lemon meringue pies that she would bring to the church suppers.
Alice is survived by her son, James Heckler; brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Dorothy Gluth, all of Morgan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Heckler in 1937; and sister, Lilas Gluth in 1985.

Irene Frances Biesanz, 84, Winona, died after a short struggle with cancer, on Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Community Memorial Hospital in Winona. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 18, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona. Arrangements were handled by Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Winona.
Irene was born April 6, 1917, in Mosinee, Wis., to Michael and Anna (Kronenwetter) O'Connor. She graduated in 1938 from the College of St. Teresa with a double major in Latin and English, and a minor in German. Her older sister, Dorothy Callaghan, helped to put Irene through school during the Great Depression. Irene worked as a librarian in Great Falls, Mont. for a year, followed by several years of teaching Latin, German and American History at Ocono Falls, Wisc. high school. She married Charles William (Bill) Biesanz, Sr. on Dec. 30, 1941, and continued her teaching career through the lives of her 11 children.
Irene is survived by children, Charles and wife Becky Biesanz of Winona, Anne and husband Ted Roberton of Rushford, Thomas Biesanz of Winona, Teresa and husband William Schumaker of Winona, Philip Biesanz of Richfield, David and wife CJ Biesanz of Sacramento, Calif., Barbara and husband Mark Prozanc of Winona, Francis and wife Rebecca Biesanz of Sleepy Eye, Don and wife Lynn Biesanz of Winona, Robert (deceased), and Julie and husband Geoff Gardner of Winona. She also has been blessed with 31 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Martha (Mrs. Harold) Krzmarzick, 83, Sleepy Eye, and formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. Funeral services were held Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
Martha was born Dec. 9. 1918, in Home Township, Brown County, to Henry and Margaret (Rascho) Sellner. She married Clifford Freiderich in Milwaukee, Wisc. After his death, she married Harold Krzmarzick in 1981 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Following marriage, the couple farmed in Home Township. Martha was a homemaker. She had been a resident of Sleepy Eye Care Center for the past two years.
Martha is survived by her husband, Harold Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye; son and daughters-in-law, Cledus and Roselyn Freiderich of New Ulm, and Clifford, Jr. and Patricia Freiderich of Edwards, Mo.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Clifford Freiderich on May 7, 1974.

Wilbert G. Rambow, 83, Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Springfield City Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Wilbert was born July 24, 1918, in Springfield, the son of William and Ella (Seidl) Rambow. He grew up and attended school in Springfield. After he completed his schooling, Wilbert joined the Civilian Conservation Corp and worked for a few years in northern Minnesota and Oregon. He married Grace M. Norell on Oct. 6, 1942, in Martinez, Calif. Wilbert served in the infantry for the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the South Pacific, Washington D.C., and California. After his honorable discharge, the couple made their home in Sleepy Eye where Wilbert worked for Pietrus Foods until retiring in 1984. Wilbert was the caretaker for the Dyckman Library in Sleepy Eye from 1984 until 1998. He was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. Wilbert enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed gardening, bee keeping and bird watching.
Wilbert is survived by his wife, Grace Rambow of Sleepy Eye; children, Janice and husband Lynn Sandhoefner of Minnetonka, Gary and wife Bev Rambow of Mankato, Cheryl and husband Harry Patz of Acme, Wash., and Tim Rambow and Deb Carlson of Morgan; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elvira Meyer of Springfield, and Eleanor Marsalek of Minneapolis; brothers, Arthur and wife Beverly Rambow of Maple Grove, and Alvin Rambow of Nevis. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dahlia; and brother, Ervin.
Casket bearers were Tim Rambow, Gary Rambow, Cheryl Platz and Janice Sandhoefner.

Elizabeth Kinmore, 74, died Nov. 9, 2001, at her home in Minneapolis.
Elizabeth was born in Sleepy Eye to William and Alma (Hauert) Nelson. She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School
She is survived by her children, Scott, Barry, Jodi and Liza and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1999; and her parents.

Clarence E. Schultz, 100, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Clearwater, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at Golden Years Homestead in Fort Wayne. Visitation was held Monday, with burial at a later date in Clearwater.
Clarence was born June 19, 1901, in Sleepy Eye, to John and Louise (Moll) Schultz. He married Mary Miller on Feb. 27, 1986, in Clearwater, Fla. He farmed in Minnesota until 1958, moved to Florida in 1967 and then moved to Fort Wayne in 1995. He was a member of High Point United Methodist Church in Clearwater and he made and gave away over 30,000 stuffed animals.
Clarence is survived by his wife Mary Miller Schultz of Fort Wayne; stepdaughter, Carol Schuster of Austin, Tex.; stepsons, Robert and wife Janet Miller of Albion, Ind., Harry and wife Sandy Miller of Copperas Cove, Tex., and Kenneth and wife Carol Miller of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sisters, Selma Somerfeld of Clearwater, Fla., and Della Cunningham of Sleepy Eye.; 18 step-grandchildren; 28 step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Somerfeld Schultz in 1984; stepdaughter, Shirley Powell of Churubusco; and one brother.

Joel Sylvester Krzmarzick, 62, Mankato, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel with interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Joel was born July 5, 1939, in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, the son of Sylvester and Alyce (Soukup) Krzmarzick. He grew up and lived with his family on the farm in Leavenworth Township until 1947, when he moved to Faribault. Joel lived in Faribault and St. Peter until moving to the REM III Home in Mankato in 1978. He made his home there and worked at MRCI in Mankato. After having hip surgery in April 2001, Joel moved to Therese K. Sexton Home in North Mankato. Joel enjoyed music, dancing and participating in the Special Olympics.
Joel is survived by his brothers and sisters, Marvin and wife Alice Krzmarzick of Burnsville; Dale and wife Dorothy Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye, JoAnn and husband Tom Seifert of Sleepy Eye, Judy Krzmarzick of Worthington and Randy and wife Pam Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dean in 1974.

Norbert Anton Seidl, 85, Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Sleepy Eye Care Center, Sleepy Eye. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with interment in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Norbert was born May 5, 1916, in Sleepy Eye, the son of William and Catherine (Haala) Seidl. He grew up and attended country school in the Sleepy Eye area and later St. Mary's School in Sleepy Eye for two years. Norbert married Viola Sturm on Sept. 9, 1940, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. After marriage, the couple lived and farmed in the Sleepy Eye area. Norbert was a member and founder of the Stark Baseball Association and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Aid Association. He was also a member of the Stark Creamery Board and the Sleepy Eye Creamery Board, and the Sleepy Eye Sportsman's Club. Norbert enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing and baseball.
Norbert is survived by his wife, Viola Seidl of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Suzanne and husband Lloyd Braun of Sleepy Eye and Shirley and husband Tom Kuck of New Ulm; daughter-in-law, Jan and husband Jim Hinderman of Sleepy Eye; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Leona Seidl of Sleepy Eye; and brother-in-law, Norbert and wife Bernice Sturm of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Martin; brothers and sisters, Minnie Schroepfer, Laura Schroepfer, Leonard Seidl, Clara Portner, Fronie Portner, Louise Tastel and Evelyn Sturm.

Audrey C. Johnson, 86, Bloomington, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at her home. Funeral services were held Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Prairieville Cemetery, Evan.
Audrey was born Nov. 13, 1915, in Minneapolis, the daughter of William and Doris (Friedrich) Caven. She grew up and attended school in Franklin and Fairfax. Audrey graduated from Fairfax High School. She married James Johnson on Oct. 14, 1940, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye, where Audrey worked at the Sleepy Eye Medical Clinic. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Audrey enjoyed traveling in Ireland, spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards, dancing, polishing her nails and being Irish.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome Johnson of Sleepy Eye; children and their spouses, Judy and Gary Goblirsch of Bloomington, Jeff and Connie Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Brad and Maria Johnson of Smyrna, Tenn.; grandchildren, Tim Goblirsch, Stephanie and Rob Clarke, Kimberly and Michea Johnson, Sheila and Eric Princl, Jazmin Johnson, James "JP" Johnson and Mathew Johnson; great-grandchild Bobby Clarke; brother-in-law, Jerry and wife Colleen Johnson of Bloomington; sister-in-law, Alice Rothmeier of Faribault; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law, Les and wife Francis Hansen; and Ed Rothmeier; and twin great-grand baby angels.
Casket bearers were James "JP" Johnson, Eric Princl, Jan Johnson, Craig Johnson, Todd Johnson, Bobby Hansen and Tim Goblirsch.

Veona Bertina Kaehler, 77, rural Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at her home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., Jan. 24, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, and Thursday, from 7:30-9 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
Veona was born March 11, 1924 in Vesta, to Arthur and Elsie (Kuehn) Kletscher. She attended country school near Vesta and graduated from Echo High School in the early 1940s. Veona attended Lamberton Teachers Training and furthered her education at Mankato State College. She taught at rural schools in Redwood County for five years and on Nov. 28, 1947, she married Donald E. Kaehler in Vesta. Following marriage, they moved to a farm in Leavenworth Township. Veona was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed dancing, gardening, reading, traveling, and her family and friends. She also looked forward to being with her grandchildren on the weekends.
Veona is survived by her husband, Donald Kaehler of Sleepy Eye; sons, Jim and wife Diane Kaehler of Springfield, Mark Kaehler and special friend Carol Brown of Sauk Rapids, Scott and wife Georganne Kaehler of Winona and Brad and wife Denise Kaehler of Anoka; daughter, Lynn and husband Jim Lally of Prior Lake; ten grandchildren; brother, Murl and wife Doris Kletscher of Lester Prairie; and sisters, LaVonne Werner of Roy, Utah, and Mildred DeMuth of Apache Junction, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Casket bearers were Jim Kaehler, Mark Kaehler, Brad Kaehler, Scott Kaehler, Jim Lally and Kyle Medcraft.

M. Maxine Sabasko, 76, Minneapolis, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. A memorial service was held at the Cremation Society Edina Chapel on Jan. 16.
Maxine was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Springfield, the only daughter of Lavis and Olga (Bellig) Larson. She spent her youth in Springfield, Sleepy Eye, Kassota and Lamberton. She graduated from Lamberton High School in 1943 and moved to Minneapolis, where she spent her entire adult life. Maxine worked in the pharmacy department of Hennepin County Medical Center until her retirement about six years ago.
Maxine is survived by her son, Steven and wife Barb Sabasko of Hopkins; daughters, Lynette and husband Ken Holm, and Gail of South Minneapolis; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Dennis Lynnea Larson of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Ellsworth "Al" of Moorhead, and Darwin "Bud" Larson of Shakopee.

Mathilda Windschitl, 90, Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital, Sleepy Eye. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth, with interment in the church cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye.
Mathilda was born Aug. 26, 1911, in Mulligan Township, to Joseph and Christina (Hillesheim) Sellner. She attended country school and St. Mary's School. Mathilda grew up southeast of Leavenworth. On Sept. 5, 1933, she married Michael Windschitl in Leavenworth. They made their home in Mulligan Township on Michael's home farm. Mathilda was a member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth, Catholic Aid, Christian Mothers, and a former member of the CCW. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing patch quilts, gardening and working with flowers.
Mathilda is survived by her children, Marvin and wife Esther Windschitl of Comfrey, Walter and wife Margaret Windschitl of Sleepy Eye, Phyliss Wersal of Springfield, Doris Windschitl of Sleepy Eye and Gladys and husband Jerry Homan of Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and brother, Norbert and wife Sylvia Sellner of Comfrey. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael in 1971; an infant son; son-in-law, George Wersal; great-grandchild, Patrick Wenisch; brothers, Hubert, Sylvester, Peter, Aloysius and Raymond; and sisters, Josephine and Gertrude.
Casket bearers were Dan Wersal, Clem Windschitl, Gary Windschitl, Leon Windschitl, Rick Windschitl and Roman Windschitl.
