Sharon Peterson
Sharon Peterson, 59, New Ulm, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at New Ulm Medical Center, New Ulm. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland, with interment in the church cemetery.
Sharon, the daughter of Marvin and Elaine (Kosek) Fitzner, was born July 28, 1942, at Union Hospital, New Ulm. She attended Nicollet Public High School and graduated from there in 1960. On May 4, 1962, Sharon was united in marriage to Donald Peterson at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland. After marriage, the couple lived in Sleepy Eye for several years before moving to New Ulm. While living in New Ulm, Sharon worked from 1963 to 1973 at Tactronics, formerly known as Windings, and then for the next 14 years, she operated her own day care out of her home, operating that until the early 90s. She was a previous member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland, where she was baptized, confirmed and married, and was currently a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, New Ulm. Sharon enjoyed listening to Blue Grass Music and she and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the states of Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri, going to blue grass festivals.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Donald H. Peterson of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sarah Peterson of St. Peter; grandsons, Tyler and Nathan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Earl Blank and Mary and Harlan Blank, all of Nicollet; Cynthia Fitzner of Truman, and Nancy and Dennis Fogelberg of LaSalle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Lois Fitzner of Fergus Falls and John and Marilyn Fitzner of Mankato. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Michael Fitzner in infancy.

Agnes J. Krzmarzick
Agnes Josephine Krzmarzick, 97, of St. Paul and formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, in St. Paul. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 24, in the chapel of the Lyngblomsten Health Care Center in St. Paul. A committal service will be at 3:45 p.m., Thursday, April 25, at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Agnes was born Dec. 1, 1904, at the Krzmarzick homestead in Home Township, Brown County, to John and Margaret (Brandl) Krzmarzick. She was a 1922 graduate of St. Mary's High School, and attended Mankato Teachers College. She taught at rural School District 23 in Brown County for several years. During WWII she worked at a munitions plant in New Brighton. Agnes lived with her sister Catherine and brother Joseph J. on the farm in Home Township east of Sleepy Eye. After their deaths, she moved to St. Paul to live with her sister, Rose Krzmarzick. She moved to the Lyngblomsten Health Care Center 19 years ago and resided there until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret; four brothers, Joseph J., Michael, Anthony, and Florian Krzmarzick; and six sisters, Catherine, Martha, Anna and Rose Krzmarzick, Agatha Baatz and Mary McGraw. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.
Agnes enjoyed growing flowers, playing Scrabble, had favorite pets, and did beautiful needlepoint pictures. She was a beloved aunt to all her nieces and nephews.

Rosanne Nazarenus
Rosanne Nazarenus, 51, Minneapolis, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 28, 2 p.m., at Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be Sunday, 1:30-2 p.m. at the church. Sturm Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Rosanne was born Sept. 4, 1950, in Sleepy Eye, the daughter of Donald and Dorothy (Huebert) Nazarenus. She grew up in Sleepy Eye and graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School in 1968. Rosanne also attended Mankato State University in Mankato. After she completed her schooling, Rosanne lived many years in Minneapolis. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading and listening to music.
Rosanne is survived by her parents, Don and Dorothy Nazarenus of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Sheila and Ted Thydean of International Falls, Candy and Paul Sobocinski of Wabasso, Sue Meyer of Gibbon and Kris and Gene Nelson of Sleepy Eye; brothers, Brent and Diane Nazarenus of Sleepy Eye, and Erik and Rita Nazarenus of Spicer; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Nazarenus; nephew, John Meyer; and special friend, Robert Shirley of Minneapolis.

Steven Zollner
Steven Joseph Zollner, 44, rural Fairfax, died Monday, April 15, 2002, at Redwood Falls Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18, 10:30 a.m., at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax, with interment in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, 4-8 p.m., with 8 p.m. prayers, at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the time of services at the church.
Steven was born Dec. 4, 1957, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Albin and Marian (Simon) Zollner. He was baptized as an infant and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1975. Steven made his home in rural Fairfax since 1962, where he farmed in Cairo Township. In his younger years, he was employed by Green Giant. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax, and formerly Future Farmers of America, 4-H and Star Greenhand. Steven enjoyed farming and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Steven is survived by his parents, Albin and Marian Zollner of Fairfax; siblings, Mike Zollner of Fairfax, Donna and husband Charles Aarons of Maple Grove, Pat and wife Lisa Zollner of Oakdale and Debra and husband Francisco Yanez of Fairfax; grandmother, Lucille Zollner of Fairfax; nieces and nephews, James, Miranda, Austin, Jenny and Mason; and many other relatives and friends.
Casket bearers are Jake Freitag, Fred Kiecker, Pat Schreiner, Jon Petersen, Ron Wendinger and Linus Fischer.

Jeanette Forster
Jeanette L. Forster, 89, Selah, Wash., formerly of Comfrey, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Selah Convalescent Home, Outlook Wash., from diabetes complications. Funeral Services will be held April 6, 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Selah, with interment in Zillah Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, Wash., and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the Selah Convalescent Home.
Jeanette was born Dec. 3, 1912, the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (Roiger) Sturm, at their homestead near Springfield. She received her education at St. Raphael's Catholic School in Springfield. On Sept. 10, 1934, Jeanette married Edward J. Forster in Springfield at St. Raphael's Catholic Church and the couple made their home in Comfrey, where they engaged in farming. In 1948, they moved to Outlook, Wash., where they farmed for 34 years. After her husband's death, Jeanette became a resident of Selah Convalescent Home. Jeanette was active at the home, helping to decorate, caring for flowers, making crafts and playing cards and bingo with friends. She had a special fondness for fishing. Jeanette loved her resident friends and staff as family. She enjoyed reading, music and painting pictures for her family, and took pride in her earlier years cooking for family gatherings and holidays. Jeanette was a homemaker, devoted wife and mother, and cherished her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a charter member of the Young Ladies Institute of Selah. She was a past member of St. Mary's auxiliary and the altar society.
Jeanette is survived by her son, Edward and wife Theresa (McFadden) Forster of Ephrata, Wash.; daughter, Eileen (Forster) and her husband Duane King of Yakima, Wash.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Emelia Hammerschmidt of Springfield and Stella Rathman of Sleepy Eye; and sister-in-law, Angie (Schroepfer) Sturm of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; sisters, Elizabeth Kinservik, Adela Klucas and Theresa Tauer; brothers, Roman Sturm and Michael (Mikie) Sturm.

Arnold "Dutch" Meyer
Arnold "Dutch" Meyer, 73, Sleepy Eye, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Mayo Health Care Center, Rochester. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Visitation will be held at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, Wednesday, 4-8 p.m., and Thursday, 7:30-9:30 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dutch was born in Fairmount, N.D., the son of Rudolph and Velda (Reese) Meyer. He grew up and graduated from high school in Fairmount. After completing his schooling, Dutch served in the United States Marine Corps for two years. He was honorably discharged and returned to Fairmount, where he worked in the area for a few years. He later was employed by the USDA as a poultry and grading inspector in Fairmount and later in Faribault, Minn. Dutch married Georglyn Treka on Oct. 2, 1954, in Faribault. The couple made their home there until moving to Sleepy Eye in 1957. Dutch continued to work for the USDA at A. J. Pietrus & Sons in Sleepy Eye, until retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Sleepy Eye Golf Club, and the Sleepy Eye American Legion. Dutch loved to play golf with his friends and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Dutch is survived by his wife, Georglyn Meyer of Sleepy Eye; children, Steven and wife Sara Meyer of Mankato, Wendy and husband Wayne Fox of New Ulm, Georgette and husband Mike Schumacher of Wabasha, Tracy and husband Chuck Meyer of Sleepy Eye, and Chris and husband Brian Braun of Sleepy Eye; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Faye and husband Jack Von Bokern of Tracy, and Darlene and Dave Vanek of Hopkins. Dutch was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn; and twin granddaughters, Sadie and Sada.
Casket bearers are Seth Meyer, Travis Meyer, Wayne Fox, Chuck Meyer, Brian Braun and Mike Schumacher. Honorary casket bearers are Bill Horne, Bob Rathman, Jack Bruggeman, Bill Genz and Coke Callanan.

David Suess
David Suess, 53, rural New Ulm, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato. Funeral services will be held Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Ulm, with interment in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, and 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a combined rosary by St. John's Catholic Aid Council and the Knights of Columbus Council #1076 at 6 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., both Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm or to the donors choice.
David was born Feb. 9, 1949, in Sleepy Eye, to Erwin and Monica (Spaeth) Suess. He attended St. John's Catholic School in Searles and graduated in 1967 from Cathedral High School in New Ulm. On June 10, 1969, David married Sandra Meyer at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. After marriage, the couple farmed in the Searles and Hanska area. David played concertina with the Erwin Suess and the Hoolerie Dutchman, the Lester Schuft and the Country Dutchman of Hutchinson, and many other old time bands. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1076, St. John's Catholic Aid Council, and the German Bohemian Heritage Singers.
David is survived by his wife, Sandy Suess of rural New Ulm; parents, Erwin and Monica Suess of North Mankato; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Jeremy Pieper of Mankato; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Suess of St. Cloud, Scott Suess of New Ulm, Mark and Rachael Suess of New Ulm, and Tom Suess and his fiance, Jenna Schmitt both of New Ulm; granddaughters, Madison and Katelyn Suess; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Gary Gleisner of New Ulm, Sue and Bob McAdams of Mendota Heights and Lori and Troy Parsons of Madison Lake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Denise Suess of Clive, Iowa and Loran and Chris Suess of Hanska; 16 nieces and nephews; six great-nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Lorraine Meyer of New Ulm; and sister-in-law, Alice Fischer of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dora and Joe Suess; and Wolfgang and Bertha Spaeth; father-in-law, Fred A. Meyer; and brother-in-law, Ronald J. Fischer.

Dora Turbes
Dora Turbes, 100, Sleepy Eye, formerly of New Ulm, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Divine Providence Community Home, Sleepy Eye, where she had been a resident for the past three years. Funeral services were held Tuesday at The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with interment in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, rural Searles. Con-celebrants were Father George V. Schmit, Monsignor Antony J. Leifeld and Father John Brunner. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Divine Providence Community Home, the Educational Trust Fund and the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools, or the Way of the Cross.
Dora Turbes was born Feb. 2, 1902, in Courtland Township, Nicollet County, to Frank and Mary (Krause) Reinhart. She attended country school in Courtland Township and then attended the Holy Trinity Boarding Grade School in New Ulm. She lived in Courtland Township until her marriage to Nicholas Turbes on Sept. 12, 1922, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage, the couple farmed near Searles. Dora's husband Nicholas, died July 7, 1937. She continued to live on the farm until 1955, when she moved to into New Ulm. Dora worked at Roeder's Hatchery for two years and then the Purity White Castle in New Ulm, up until it closed, at which time she retired. Dora was a member of The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Christian Mother's Society, the St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society, the Monica club, the Sunshine Girls, and was very active in the Guatemala Missions.
Dora is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Eisenbacher of New Ulm; son, Ralph and wife Angie Turbes of Crosslake; daughter-in-law, Arlene Turbes of Mankato; stepson-in-law, Leonard Gag of Rochester; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nicholas Turbes; son, Jerome Turbes; son-in-law, Carl Eisenbacher; stepdaughter, Irene Gag; stepsons, Roman Turbes and Floyd Turbes; all of her brothers and sisters; and grandchildren. Dora was the last living sibling of the Frank and Mary Reinhart family.
Casket bearers were Ronald Turbes, Scott Turbes, Darvin Turbes, Michael Turbes, Alan Turbes, Gerald Turbes and Lyle Turbes.

Percy E. Balbach
Percy E. Balbach, 87, Springfield, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield. Funeral services were held Saturday at United Methodist Church, Springfield, with interment in Springfield City Cemetery.
Percy was born April 24, 1914, in Stately Township to George and Lillie (Potter) Balbach. He married Erna Schenk on June 17, 1942, at the Methodist Church in Springfield. He grew up on the farm where he was born and the couple lived there until about four years ago, when failing health forced the decision to move to an apartment in Springfield. He was a resident at St. John Lutheran Home for a short time prior to his death. Percy loved the outdoors, farming, his animals and John Deere tractors. He enjoyed being around his long-time friends, playing cards and visiting. He was a member of Springfield United Methodist Church, a past master of the Masonic Lodge, and served as Worthy Patron when his wife was Worthy Patron of Order of Eastern Star in Minnesota. Percy served on the Stately School Board for over 25 years, and was active in Brown County Farm Bureau, serving on committees for many years.
Percy is survived by his wife, Erna of Springfield; brothers, Ward and wife Melvine Balbach of Mankato, and Lynn and wife Bernice Balbach of Springfield; sister, Dorothy and husband Walter Schenk of Springfield; many nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends. He was a true friend and will be missed.

Ella Angeline Bloomquist
Ella Angeline Bloomquist, 99, Sleepy Eye, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27, 2 p.m., at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, with interment at a later date. Visitation will be held at Sturm Funeral Home Saturday, 1-2 p.m.
Ella was born Feb. 3, 1903, in Rosendale Township, rural St. James, to Christian T. and Elsa (Ovre) Christenson. She received her education in rural St. James where the family resided. Ella married Carl Bloomquist on Nov. 28, 1922, at Albion Parsonage. The couple lived in St. James and then moved to Walker where they operated Bud's Place resort on Leech Lake from 1941 until 1960. Carl preceded her in death on March 23, 1964. Ella's hobbies included cooking, seamstress, flower gardening, crafts and crocheting. She made many lovely things for friends and family. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye.
Ella is survived by her sons, LeRoy "Bud" Bloomquist of Whipholt and Frank Bloomquist of Brainerd; sisters, Inga Johnson of Madelia, Mabel Larrabee of Springfield, Donna and husband Carl Schultz of St. James, and Inez Schildt of Woodstock, Ill.; brothers, Samuel and wife Marie Christenson of St. James, Lloyd and wife Helen Christenson of New Ulm, and David and wife Gayle Christenson of Staples; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; sisters, Olga Odegard, Clara Blackstad, Emma Odegard, Selma Bloomquist, and Lavina Rice; and brothers, Oliver, Clarence, Howard and Clifford.
Honorary casket bearers were Sam Christenson, Lloyd Christenson, Bopper Heiderscheidt, Bud Bloomquist, Frank Bloomquist and David Christenson.

Gordon Lammers
Gordon Lammers, 74, Butternut, died from cancer on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at New Ulm Medical Center. Funeral services were held Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with interment in New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest section,
Gordon was born to Heinrich and Helena (Von Hagel) Lammers, March 10, 1928 in Madelia. He attended District 37 country school through 8th grade in Linden Township, Brown County. He then graduated from St. Paul School of Agriculture in St. Paul. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. Gordon married Janice Ruehl on June 9, 1956, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter. They resided in North Mankato, where he worked at Hubbard Milling and farmed the family farm near Butternut. Later, they moved to the family farm where he continued farming and custom farming. Farming was a joy in his life. Gordon also enjoyed collecting antique cars and tractors. He took great pride in his cars, and drove them in many local parades. He was a long-time member of Farm Bureau and served on the Brown County Board of Directors. Gordon took an active role in his church and served there in many capacities.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Janice; son, Bruce and wife Renae Lammers of New Ulm; daughter, Brenda and husband Denny Hartman of Lake Crystal; very special granddaughters, Jessica and Erin Leiding of Lake Crystal; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dale and Doris Felmlee and Dwaine and Millie Felmlee; and many nieces and nephews. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Cynthia D. Macklenburg
Cynthia D. Macklenburg, 56, Echo, formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton. Funeral services were held Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with interment in Echo City Cemetery, Echo.
Cynthia was born July 25, 1945, in New Ulm, to Louis and Ann (Harms) Cordes. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and New Ulm Public School. On Aug. 21, 1976, Cynthia married Daniel Macklenburg at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After marriage, the couple farmed in rural Echo, until Daniel's death in 1997. Cynthia has since resided in various car facilities, and had been a resident of Valley View Manor in Lamberton since January, 2002. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Echo.
Cynthia is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Charles Eckstein of Sleepy Eye, and Connie and Bill Smith of New Ulm; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Delbert and Janice Macklenburg, and David and Joan Macklenburg, all of rural Echo; nine nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Daniel on June 12, 1997.

George M. McWilliams
George M. McWilliams, 82, Redwood Falls, died April 5, 2002, at Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls. Funeral services were held Monday, April 8, 2002, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls with interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
George Marshall McWilliams was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Frank and Clara (Prokosch) McWilliams. He attended St. Mary's High School, graduating in 1938. He then attended the University of St. Thomas, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in 1942. George than served in the U. S. Army during WWII. On Feb. 19, 1949, George married Janet Dempsey at Henderson. After marriage, the couple lived in Redwood Falls. George worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Redwood Falls and then was self-employed with his own private accounting practice, retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters. George also belonged to the St. Thomas Alumni Association, American Legion and V.F.W.
George is survived by his wife, Janet of Redwood Falls; children, Colleen McWilliams Wier and husband Terry of Plymouth, and Terry McWilliams and wife Pam of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Jane and Jack Wier and Colin and Matthew McWilliams. George was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Lucille Steffl.
