Donald Warren Lambrecht
Donald Warren Lambrecht, 72, Hastings, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Gainesville, Fla.
Donald was born March 25, 1930, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Walter and Lucy Lambrecht. He was active in the Masons and Jaycees. Donald loved to build and fly radio controlled airplanes in Hastings and his winter home in Naples, Fla. During his professional career, he was a farmer, private investigator and sales territory manager for Hesston Farm Equipment. Donald was on his way to Naples, when he died suddenly while overnighting in Gainesville, Fla. He will be missed by his many friends and loving family. Donald will always have a place reserved for him at the airstrip where he so skillfully flew his radio controlled airplanes.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Diane J. Cole Lambrecht; daughter, Deborah Sather, son-in-law, Lawrence and grandchildren, Aaron, Amanda, Andrew and Alan Sather. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ramona; and sons, Donald and Dale.
Interment will be in Sleepy Eye, during the spring of 2003.

Terry M. Treml
Terry M. Treml, 38, Eden Prairie, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at his home. Funeral services were Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Terry was born Jan. 19, 1964, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Edwin V. and Annette E. (Sturm) Treml. He grew up in Sleepy Eye and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1982. Terry attended St. Cloud State University and graduated in 1986, with a B.S. degree in business management. Terry was the manager of Marshalls Department Store at the Mall of America in Bloomington.
Terry is survived by his parents, Ed and Nettie Treml of Sleepy Eye; brother, Todd and wife Lisa Treml and their children, Thomas and Ben of Maple Grove; sister, Liz Treml and fiance' Jamie Sobolik, both of Minneapolis; and grandmother, Angie (Schroepfer) Sturm of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mike and Agnes (Hillesheim) Treml and Mike Sturm.
Casket bearers were Tim Heymans, Mike Schwartz, Dean Brinkman, Greg Kuebler, Doug Arnoldi and Paul Arnoldi.

Rita Marie Seifert
Rita Marie Seifert, 75, New Ulm, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at her home. Funeral services were Friday at The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with interment in New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home handled the arrangements. The family prefers memorials to the Way of the Cross, Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Church or the American Cancer Society.
Rita was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Alvin Township, Brown County, to Edward and Mathilda (Seidl) Sellner. She attended country school in rural Sleepy Eye and St. Mary's Catholic School in Sleepy Eye. Rita worked at Pietrus Produce in Sleepy Eye for five years. She married Christian Seifert on on Sept. 1, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage, the couple farmed in Milford Township, Brown County, until retiring and moving to New Ulm. Rita was actively involved in the farm operation and enjoyed gardening and canning. After moving to New Ulm, she volunteered her time to her church in serving at funeral lunches, which she enjoyed immensely. Rita loved music, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
Rita is survived by her husband, Christin Seifert of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and William Knopke of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Roman and Colleen Seifert, and Thomas and Ann Seifert, all of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Baker and Phyllis Westman of St. James, Leona Platz of Springfield, Patricia and Raymond Seifert of New Ulm, Melania and Delmar Meyer and Rosella and James Stimpert, all of Sleepy Eye, Joyce and Gary Berg of Comfrey, and Beatrice and Thomas Koop of Courtland; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eddic C. and Bernice Sellner of Springfield, Raymond Sellner and Mary De Geest of Miller, S.D., Paul and Helen Sellner of Sioux Falls, S.D., Florian "Doyle" and Patricia Sellner, and Larry "Louie" and Sandra Sellner of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Ann Rodewald; four brothers-in-law; two nephews; one great-niece and two sisters-in-law in infancy.

Martha M. Weber
Martha M. Weber, 86, Hutchinson, formerly of Gibbon, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson. Funeral services were Wednesday at St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon, with interment in the church cemetery. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of Gibbon handled the arrangements.
Martha was born June 14, 1916, in Albin Township, Brown County, to Christopher and Marianna (Schloegl) Sellner. On Sept. 10, 1940, Martha was united in marriage with Joseph Weber at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage, the couple lived on the farm in rural Stewart. They farmed for 30 years and retired in 1970, moving to Gibbon. Martha loved being a homemaker and enjoyed her family and crafts. She was a member of St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon and a member of the Council of Catholic Women.
Martha is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille and Roger Stippel of rural Aitkin, and Marilyn and Randy Buboltz of Litchfield; son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Jennifer Weber of Lake City; grandchildren, Colleen and husband Mark Dhennin of Coon Rapids, Roger and wife Lori Stippel, Jr. of Woodbury, Mitchell and wife Margie Stippel of Portugal, Jane and husband David Peterson of La Crescent, Jill and husband Rodger Taylor of Trimont, Susan and husband Leon Bullerman of Adrian, Craig Buboltz of Saipan, and Melissa Buboltz and fiance' Dan Handorff of Rochester; sisters and brother-in-law, Clara Schroepfer and Amelia Heitzer, both residents of Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, Catherine and Harold Johnson of Madelia, Angeline Weber of Gibbon, and Anna Hacker of Lafayette; brothers and sister-in-law, Leonard Sellner, and Clement and Dorothy Sellner, all of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Weber on June 30, 1999; son, Jerome Weber in infancy; brothers, Christopher, Albert, William, Edmund and Florian Sellner; and sisters, Mary Moldan, Mathilda Blumhoefer and Bertha Muehlbauer.

Irene E. Meyer
Irene E. Meyer, 82, Las Cruces, NM, formerly of St. Peter, died Oct. 21, 2002, in Las Cruces, NM. She had been a resident of Las Cruces and Roswell, NM for the past 32 years.
Irene was born July 13, 1920, in Sleepy Eye, to Augusta (Engel) and Clement Pelzel. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye, in 1939. Irene married Robert Meyer on June 20, 1941. She worked as a waitress at the Nicollet Hotel and Holiday House in St. Peter, before moving to New Mexico in 1970. Graveside services will be held at Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye, on Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
Irene is survived by sons, Robert and wife Lorna of Las Cruces, NM, and Daniel of Roswell, NM; daughter, Carol Haugdahl and Dave Poncin of Cleveland; brothers, Ben Pelzel of Ludlow, Vt., Irvin Pelzel and Melvin Pelzel of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Leona B. Lowinski of Sleepy Eye, Marion Muller of Marshall, Mo., and Lorraine Tauer of Morgan; brother-in-law, Delmar and wife Melania Meyer and Donald and wife Kathy Meyer all of Sleepy Eye; 8 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; four brothers; one sister and one grandchild.

Cecile Marie Swenstad
Cecile Marie Swenstad, 66, Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis. Funeral services were Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Cecile was born Sept. 19, 1936, in Sleepy Eye, the daughter of Frank and Cora (Purdy) Maxwell. She grew up in Sleepy Eye and attended St. Mary's Schools. After graduation from high school, she married Omar Swenstad on Nov. 19, 1955, in New Ulm. The couple made their home in the Sleepy Eye area, where Cecile worked at Haas Press and Del Monte Foods. Cecile cooked at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital for several years and also cleaned homes and businesses in the community. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Cecile was an avid sports fan, watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, and especially enjoyed attended local school sporting events.
Cecile is survived by her children, Dean and wife Laurie Swenstad of St. James, Douglas Swenstad of Fairmont, Diane and husband Lyle Heiderscheidt of Sleepy Eye, Dennis and wife Pam Swenstad of Fairmont, Don Swenstad of Sleepy Eye, Deby Hillesheim and special friend Barry Lang of Sleepy Eye and Duane Swenstad and special friend Barbara of Eau Claire, Wis.; grandchildren, Travis and wife Melissa Meyer, Heather and husband Jeremy Spitzner, Shane and wife Jenifer Heiderscheidt, Melanie Swenstad, Chad Swenstad, Dustin Swenstad, Sharisse Heiderscheidt, Casey Hillesheim, Andrew Swenstad, Geri Lynn Swenstad and Jessica Swenstad; great-grandchildren, Madison and Kegan Heiderscheidt; brothers, Lyle and wife Rosemary Maxwell of Tucson, Ariz., Wesley and wife Dee Maxwell of Apple Valley, Johnny Maxwell of St. Paul, Calvin Maxwell and Ervin Maxwell, both of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Josephine and husband Frank Mikocevich of St. Paul and Arla and husband Bill Davenport of Mt. Washington, Ky. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alvin and LeRoy; and sisters, Wanda Pickle and Donna Tauber.
Casket bearers were Travis Meyer, Shane Heiderscheidt, Chad Swenstad, Sharisse Heiderscheidt, Heather Spitzner, Melanie Swenstad, Dustin Swenstad and Casey Hillesheim. Honorary casket bearers were Andrew Swenstad, Jessica Swenstad, Geri Lynn Swenstad, Madison Heiderscheidt and Kegan Heiderscheidt.

Donald R. Konz
Donald Raymond Konz, 45, Welcome, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital. Memorial services were Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Urn bearer was Travis Konz. Sharon Carr was organist for the service. Soloist and song leader was Thomas Hirsch and lector was Aran Augustin. Gift bearers were Don's nieces and nephews. Kramer Family Funeral Home of Welcome handled the arrangements.
Donald was born Oct. 8, 1957, the son of George and Mary (Gaspar) Konz, in Sleepy Eye. He received his education in Sleepy Eye, where he lived for many years before moving to Welcome. Don was employed as a welder for eight years, later becoming a Union Carpenter for 1832 until the time of his death. He greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.
Donald is survived by his son, Travis Konz of Bingham Lake; mother, Mary Konz of Sleepy Eye; brothers, John and wife Alyce Konz of New Ulm, Leo Konz of St. Paul, Vincent and wife Sandy Konz, Steven and wife Denise Konz, Mark and wife Donna Konz, and Ronald and wife Ann Konz, all of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Karen and husband Dennis Sieve of Richfield, Bernice and husband Reed Bolander of Lakeville, Phyllis and husband Kevin Augustin of Sleepy Eye, Marie and husband Bob Mellum of New London, Sue and husband David Warvin of Owatonna, Joan Rasmussen and friend Bill Arndt of Mankato, and Pamela Konz of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George Konz; sister, Teresa Konz and other relatives.

Bertha A. Kuelbs
Bertha A. Kuelbs, 93, North Mankato, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. Funeral services were Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Bertha was born Sept. 17, 1909, in Mulligan Township, Brown County, to Albert and Anna (Schmitz) Franke. She married William Plamann on Sept. 20, 1929, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage, the couple lived in Sleepy Eye, where Bertha was a homemaker and also cleaned homes in the Sleepy Eye area. Bertha married Walter Kuelbs on June 20, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage, Bertha worked at the Danger mink farm in Sleepy Eye. Bertha lived with her daughter in North Mankato for the past eight years. She was a past member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Sleepy Eye VFW Post Auxiliary.
Bertha is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Elden Kamm of North Mankato and Shirley and Charles Kamm of Courtland; sons and daughter-in-law, William Plamann of Watkins and James and Jean Plamann of Hammond, La.; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Albert Franke of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, William Plamann in 1942; second husband, Walter Kuelbs in 1995; daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Sylvester Nagel; son, Tom Plamann; daughter-in-law, Alice Plamann; sisters, Elnora Gramentz, Minnie Hager and Mertie Steiner; and brothers, Leonard, Fred and Art Franke.

Ted Manderfeld
Ted Manderfeld, 83, New Ulm, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at his home, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Funeral services were Wednesday, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with interment in New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section. Full military honors were conducted by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Ted was born Nov. 25, 1918, in New Ulm to T.W. and Clara (Dorn) Manderfeld. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1937. Ted was a Veteran of WWII, serving from 1941-1945. He served in the Brown County Treasurer's office for 34 years, seven as the deputy to Albert L. Gag, and the remainder as elected Brown County Treasurer, retiring in 1980. Ted served as president of the Minnesota State Association of County Treasurers in 1958, and was voted Minnesota County Treasurer of the Year in 1980. He served on the New Ulm Police Commission for seven years. Ted was a member of the Albert Nagel Post 1648 VFW, the Seifert-Bianchi Post 132 American Legion, St. John's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Patrick's Council of the Knights of Columbus, Junior Pioneers, New Ulm Country Club and Turner Hall, all in New Ulm. He was a member of the Veterans Funeral Detail, a ten-year volunteer for the Brown County Transportation Program, a 50-year member of the American Legion Drill Team and a lifetime member of the Cathedral parish. Ted was an excellent athlete and an avid sports fan. He was inducted into the New Ulm American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame and the New Ulm Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
Ted is survived by his wife, Marcie of New Ulm; daughters, Kay Lytle of Bloomington, and Nancy Manderfeld of Eden Prairie; step-daughter, Cindy Borth of New Ulm; grandchildren, Stephanie and husband Dan Bakke of Brooklyn Park, and Angela and husband Michael Watschke of Eagan; great-grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin Bakke and Grace Watschke; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stan and wife Fran Manderfeld of New Ulm, and Ray and wife Dorothy Manderfeld of New Ulm; sister, Lorraine Williams of Mankato; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by is parents; first wife, Lorraine; brother, Jerome "Jack" and wife, Neva Manderfeld of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Adeline and husband Lloyd Werner of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Roger Williams of Mankato; and niece, Judy Klooster of Mankato.

Arne Petersen
Arne Petersen, 86, Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Oak Hills Living Center, New Ulm, where he had been a resident since June of 1998. Funeral services were Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye, with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Arne was born July 22, 1916, in Clare, Iowa, the son of August and Karoline (Jensen) Petersen. Arne moved with his family to a farm near Evan in 1923. He grew up and attended country school at District #58 in Evan. After completing his schooling, Arne farmed on the family farm until entering the United States Army during WWII. He served in England and France from July of 1942 until December of 1945. Arne married Elaine Mikaelsen on March 23, 1946. Following their marriage, they made their home on the family farm east of Evan, where they lived and farmed until retiring in 1980. They then moved to Sleepy Eye. Arne was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye since 1996, and a former member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan. He was a past member of the Sleepy Eye Golf Club, the Morgan VFW, and present member of Sleepy Eye VFW Post 800 and American Legion Post 7. Arne enjoyed fishing and vacationing at Lake Amelia, winters at the Dana Court in Arizona, golfing and most of all his family and grandchildren.
Arne is survived by his wife, Elaine of Sleepy Eye; children, Gary and wife Alice Petersen of St. Paul, Ron and wife Bev Petersen of Sleepy Eye, and Janet and husband Marty Novotny of Willmar; grandchildren, Alicia and husband Chris Runquist, Brian Petersen, Steven, Katie, Dan and Mike Petersen, and Peter, Jenny and Andy Novotny; brother, Karl and wife Anna Peterson of Hjorring, Denmark; and sister-in-law, Agnes Miller of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings in infancy, twin Niels, Else and Clifford) and brother-in-law, Art E. Miller.
Casket bearers were Dean Hansen, Larry Krenz, Galen Engholm, Larry Barnes, Dave Vosbeck and Milo Christensen, Jr. Honorary casket bearers were Brian Petersen, Steve Petersen, Dan Petersen, Peter Novotny, Andy Novotny and Mike Petersen.

David Scanlan
David Scanlan, 69, High Falls, NY, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died of cancer Sept. 27, 2002, at his home.
David was the son of Dorothy Scanlan and the grandson of Minnie Eckert, both long-time former residents of Sleepy Eye. He retired in 1990 as chairman and professor in the Department of Theatre and Film at C.W. Post College, Long Island University, New York. After service in the military during the Korean War, David received his doctorate in theatre arts from the University of Minnesota. His career was in the professional as well as the academic theatre and included three years as director at the Repertory Theatre in New Orleans. Several of David's short plays were produced off-Broadway in Manhattan. He published an English translation of Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People," edited several anthologies of plays and was the author of the textbook "Reading Drama."
David is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Michael and wife Margery, Bridget Languth, Christopher, and John and wife Kathy; grandchildren, Conor and Kaitlin Scanlan and John David and Dylan Languth; brother, Tom and wife Mary; niece Jennifer Scanlan and cousin, Janice (Hansen) Swanson.
