Linus "Pete" Feirer
Linus "Pete" S. Feirer, 80, Springfield, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton. Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 10, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield, with interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Pete was born Feb. 16, 1923, in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, the son of Joseph and Kathryne (girg) Feirer. He grew up and attended school in Mulligan Township and later at St. Mary's School in Sleepy Eye. After completing his schooling, Pete worked for Del Monte Corporation in Sleepy Eye and also farmed. Pete married Annette M. Ochs on May 30, 1953, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield and the couple made their home on Pete's farm in Leavenworth Township for many years. Pete was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards and farming, especially driving the tractors and combine.
Pete is survived by his wife, Annette of Springfield; children, Alan and wife Yvonne Feirer of Bowlus, Linnea Barron of St. Cloud and David Feirer of Springfield; grandchildren, Alex and Natalie Barron; and sister-in-law, Melvina Feirer of Searles. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Odelia "Dee" (Jungers) Wilson and Lorraine (Feirer) Thuer; brother, Joe Feirer; and infant grandson, Andrew Barron.

Douglas Phillip Petersen
Douglas Philip Petersen, 74, St. James, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at St. James Health Services Hospital. Visitation is at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 15, 7:30 to 9 a.m. and at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services are Thursday, 11 a.m., at Augustana Lutheran Church, with interment in Gilfillan Cemetery near Morgan. .
Douglas was born Feb. 1, 1929, in Morgan, the son of David and Dagny (Knudsen) Petersen. He grew up and attended country school near Morgan and later moved to St. James with his family, where he graduated from high school in 1948. Doug farmed with his father and brother for a few years until his marriage to JoAnn Keyes on Oct. 20, 1951, at the Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple made their home in Litchfield, where they farmed for nine years. The moved to St. James, where they lived and farmed until retiring. Doug was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir and served on many boards. He also served on the LaSalle Meat Locker Board and was past president of the NFO. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family.
Doug is survived by his wife, JoAnn of St. James; daughter, Diane and husband Keith Enstad and their children, Kavan and Kory of Hutchinson; son, Mark and wife Connie Petersen and their children, Emma, Jory and Nick of St. James; sister, Adeline and husband Hartley Story of Elk River; brother, Gordon and wife Lorraine Petersen of St. James; sister, Elaine and husband Dr. Richard Phillips of St. Paul, and sister, Sharon Creamer of St. Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Petersen; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and wife Jodi (Ellingboe) Petersen.

Adeline "Mutzie" "Addy" Bruns
Adeline "Mutzie" "Addy" Bruns, 66, Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Winthrop. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 19, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with interment in the church cemetery. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donors choice.
Adeline was born Sept. 6, 1937, in New Ulm, to Henry Jr. and Clara (Zeig) Liesenfeld. She attended country school in rural New Ulm and the next several years she attended school in New Ulm. On Jan. 27, 1962, Adeline was united in marriage to Richard Bruns at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Herberger's in New Ulm. In 1963, Adeline and Richard moved to Adeline's family farm in Sigel Township, Brown County, where they farmed together and still remained on the farm until her death. She also did seasonal work at Advertising Unlimited in Sleepy Eye, worked in the meat department at the former Randall's store in New Ulm and then at the Sausage Shop in New Ulm. Adeline was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She coached girls softball at the Sigel Ball Park and enjoyed spending time attending her grandchildren's activities.
Adeline is survived by her husband, Richard of rural Sleepy Eye; daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Larry Christensen of Morgan, Karen and Troy Traulich and Kelly and Brady Dalton, all of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Chris Bruns of Lafayette; grandchildren, Heidi and Holly Bruns, Emma and Erin Christensen and Mitchell and Shane Traulich; sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence "Flossie" and Daniel Halvorson of Sleepy Eye and Jane and Tom Mueller of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry F. and Lydia Liesenfeld of Sleepy Eye and Wilbert "Willie" and Jan Liesenfeld of Post Falls, Idaho; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Lois and Ronald Dauffenbach of Grants, N.M., Sylvia Wills of St. Peter, Ardis and Harlan Wills, Myron and Lila Bruns, Gary and Shirley Bruns and Tom and Ann Bruns, all of New Ulm, Roger Bruns of North Mankato; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother at birth; nephew, Leo Liesenfeld; mother- and father-in-law, Dick and Stella Bruns; brother-in-law, Wally Wills and sister-in-law, Lois Bruns.

Marlee Hillesheim
Marlee Hillesheim, 70, Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Sleepy Eye Care Center. Funeral services are Thursday, Jan. 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, with interment in New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-10 a.m. on Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mother's Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral. The St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., both Wednesday at the funeral home.
Marlee was born Nov. 14, 1933, in Cottonwood Township, Brown County, to Ben and Agatha (Sprenger) Gulden. She attended school in Searles. On April 26, 1955, Marlee married Victor E. Huiras in Searles. On Dec. 28, 1973, she married Clarence Deopere at Holy Trinity Cathedral Catholic Church in New Ulm. She then married Roman Hillesheim on Oct. 6, 1995, at The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Marlee was employed over the years at the Sportsman Grill, Randall's and the Lamplighter, all in New Ulm. She also helped with the upkeep of the Iberia Cemetery in the last years with Roman. She enjoyed waitress work, baking and taking walks. Marlee was a member of the Christian Mothers Society, St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Marlee is survived by her husband, Roman of Sleepy Eye; daughter, Mitzie Huiras of New Ulm; son, Mike (Hershey) Huiras of Euless, Tex.; sister, Charlotte Mulvaney of Crystal; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Phyllis Gulden of St. George, Pat and Mary Lou Gulden of Olympia, Wash., Gery and Sally Gulden of Hanska and Fred and Joyce Gulden of Stanchfield; many nieces; nephews; and step-children. She was preceded in death by her first husband Victor Huiras in 1972; her second husband, Clarence Deopere in 1992; daughter, Donna Huiras in 2000; brothers, James Gulden and Tom Gulden; and sisters, Bernice Karpen 0, Thelma Hillesheim and Sister Ruth Gulden.

Pearl Leona Pryscilla Money
Pearl Leona Pryscilla (Madsen) Money, 97, Mankato, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Mankato Lutheran Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Evan with interment in Prairieville Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye. .
Pearl was born Feb. 17, 1906, on the family farm near Evan, to Jens Peter and Carrie (Christensen) Madsen. She married Kermit Money on Valentine's Day in 1943. They lived on the farm until Kermit's passing in 1975. Pearl and her brother, Clarence, stayed on the farm until August of 1992, when they moved to Sleepy Eye. Pearl moved to Mankato Assisted Living in November of 2001. She enjoyed cooking and baking.
Pearl is survived by her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kermit; 10 brothers and sisters, one infant brother, one infant sister, Adolph, Jenny Christensen, Clifford, Stanley, Sidney, Sylvester, Viola Keys and Clarence.

Donald E. Swenson, Sr.
Donald Swenson, Sr., 78, Walnut Grove, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Tracy Hospital in Tracy. Funeral services are Thursday, Jan. 22, 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, 4-8 p.m., at Walnut Grove Funeral Home, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation continues on Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Donald was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Tracy, the son of Ervie and Dora (Truedson) Swenson. He was baptized at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove and attended school in rural Walnut Grove. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1947. Donald was united in marriage to Edith Moyars Dec. 21, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. They farmed in Springdale Township until 1970. Donald was then caretaker at Plum Creek Park from 1971 to 1987, and was a driver for Meals on Wheels for many years. In December of 2003, Donald received his 30-year AA pin. In his retirement years, Donald kept busy and enjoyed lawn care, camping and his grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his wife, Edith of Walnut Grove; sons, Don Jr. and wife Joan Swenson of Sleepy Eye, Dennis and wife Trish Swenson of Madelia, Doug and wife JoAnn of Le Seuer and Duane and wife Brenda Swenson of Rockford; daughter, Deb and husband Dale Pacholl of Walnut Grove; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Buterbaugh and Viona Foster of Tracy.

Norbert R. Bruess
Norbert Raymond Bruess, 80, Springfield, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Springfield Medical Center. Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 28 at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. .
Norbert was born July 22, 1923, in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, the son of George and Mary (Peske) Bruess. He grew up and attended country school in Leavenworth Township. After his schooling, Norbert lived and farmed all of his life with his family in Leavenworth Township. Norbert enjoyed farming, especially with horses, and also the animals, mostly the cats, dogs and cattle.
Survivors include his niece, Mary Curry of rural Springfield and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Melvin Bruess and Roland Bruess and sister Myrtle Curry.
