Keith Roberts
Keith Wayne Roberts, 47, Ames, Iowa, passed away on Sept. 13, 2004, at his home in the arms of his loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, followed by burial in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Stevens Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements.
Keith was born April 10, 1957, in Cleveland, Tenn., to Mary Ellen (McGuire) and Gilbert Roberts. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Keith was united in marriage to Judy Phillips on Aug. 14, 1987. He, Judy and their children have lived in Ames since 1990. Keith attended Iowa State University pursuing a degree in chemical engineering. He worked for Swine Genetics International, owned USAI Lab Supplies and managed ITSI. He was a parishioner of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Keith loved his family and always put them first in his life. His passion was music and he enjoyed song writing and singing. He was a wonderful father and a loving husband. He is irreplaceable and unforgettable in our hearts.
Keith is survived by his wife, Judy of Ames; son, Gabriel and wife Chris and their daughter Shelby of Ames; daughters, Harmony and her three children, J.J., Shayla and Greggory of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Charity and husband Larry Faber of Ames; Heather and boyfriend Jason Darland of Roland; Bethany and boyfriend Tony Gaul of Ames; and Amber and husband Ryan Cross of Ames; father, Gilbert Roberts of Calhoun, Tenn.; sister, Teresa and husband Don Miller and their daughter Amber of Calhoun, Tenn.; brother, Alan and wife Susie Roberts of Niota, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Delores Guldan of Sleepy Eye; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Shelly Schwab of Sleepy Eye, Mike and Annie Guldan of New Ulm, Jim and Brenda Guldan of New Ulm, Steve and AnaMartha Guldan of Alcalde, N. Mex., Denny and Janice Guldan of New Ulm, Tom and Bonnie Guldan of Sleepy Eye, Jon and Julie Guldan of St. Joseph, Mo. and Emiliano and Gale Chagil of Roseville; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ellen Roberts and sister, Tammy Butler.

Mary F. Runing
Mary F. Runing, 62, Minneapolis, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, in Casa Grande, Ariz. She was laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Sept. 21.
Mary is survived by her husband, Francis Curt Runing, formerly of Sleepy Eye; children, Connie Remley of Tempe, Ariz., Debra and husband Dave Coffman of Bloomington, Val Korte of Minneapolis, Michael Korte of Florence, Ariz., Mark and Darcy Korte of Champlain, Shawn and Marcy Runing of Mankato, and Dawn and Jim Bentley of Rochester; grandchildren, Jeremy, Nicki, Kayla, Tyler, Melissa and Samantha; great-grandchild, Avery; brothers, John McCabe of Gilbert, Ariz., and William "Buster" McCabe, of Minneapolis; sisters, Geraldine Sodman of Ramsey and Margaret Prehar of Robbinsdale; and a host of other family members and friends, both in Arizona and Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; Kenneth A. and Harriet A. McCabe; and brother, Edward T. McCabe.

Alice M. Ryan
Alice M. (Radl) Ryan, 80, Omaha, Neb., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at her home. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 17, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Omaha, with interment in Calvary Cemetery, Omaha. Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler Mortuaries handled the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Christ the King Catholic Church.
Alice was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Sleepy Eye, the daughter of William and Anna Radl. She attended St. John's Parochial School and graduated in 1941, from Sleepy Eye Public High School. In 1942, she worked at the St. Paul Pioneer Press in advertising. Then, in 1943, Alice enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Base in Dayton, Ohio, eventually being honorably discharged in late 1945. Alice was united in marriage to John Ryan on April 5, 1948, at Incarnation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Later on they moved to Omaha and raised their four sons. She was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Omaha, involved with the church's Ladies Guild and Circle meetings. When Mr. Ryan retired, they both traveled a good part of every year until John passed away in 1987. She defined her chief role in life as devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She also maintained an active interest in the lives of her sons and daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
Alice is survived by sons, Kelly W. Ryan and wife, Claire, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Sam Ryan, of Dallas, Tex., Matthew S. Ryan and wife, Diane, of Omaha and James P. Ryan and wife, Margaret, also of Omaha; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Molly, John, Daniel, Hilary, Clare, Patrick, Julie, Anna, Bob and Megan Ryan; sisters, Dorothy Carstens of Mesa, Ariz., Lorraine Mathiowetz of New Ulm, Joyce Jobe of New Ulm and Ruth Schaefer of Oshkosh, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Elsie Radl of Oshkosh and Marle Radl of Tampa, Fla.; and brother-in-law, Erwin Jobe of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Ryan; parents, William and Anna Radl; brothers, Clarence, Robert, William and James Radl; and sister, Elizabeth Green.

Lucille M. Sellner
Lucille Marion Sellner, 88, Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Divine Providence Community Home. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 7:30 to 10 a.m. There will be a Christian Mothers/Catholic Aid Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., with interment in the church cemetery. The Clergy will be Father Brian Oestreich. Lucille was born on Sept. 1, 1916, in Mulligan Township, the daughter of William and Bertha (Zwaschka) Schroepfer. She married Edmund H. Sellner on June 29, 1937, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple made their home in Stark Township where they farmed for 40 years until retiring in 1977 and then moved to Sleepy Eye. Lucille had been a resident at Divine Providence since April of 1995. Lucille enjoyed her family, her many flowers, crocheting, embroidering and quilting. She was very active in volunteer work and loved playing cards. Lucille was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, CCW, Catholic Aid, Christian Mothers and Divine Providence Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Janet and Jim Braun of Annandale, Myra and Scott Simon of Sleepy Eye and Rosie and Mike Zeig of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren and their spouses, Pete and Jenny Braun, Holly and Harv Geislinger, Jared Braun, Shannon Zeig, Melissa and Dallas Tebben, Stacy and Ryan Zarn, Mark Simon and Daniel Simon; great-grandchildren, Brent, Madison and Courtney Geislinger and Melanie and Dominick Braun; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Joan and Dale Abrahamson of Sleepy Eye, Sally Schroepfer of Searles, Clement and Dorothy Sellner of Sleepy Eye, Clara Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye, Angie Weber of New Ulm, Ann Hacker of Lafayette, Florence Sellner of Sleepy Eye and Harold Johnson of Madelia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edmund in 1999; brothers, Linus and Gerald T. Schroepfer; sisters, Marcella Mathiowetz and Mildred Groebner.

Patricia Thoms
Patricia Thoms, 61, Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Oct, 12, 2004, at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home in Morgan. Funeral services were held at Faith United Methodist Church, Sleepy Eye, on Saturday, Oct. 16, with Pastor Donn E. Rakow officiating. Interment was in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Pat was born April 21, 1943, in Sleepy Eye, the daughter of Ray and Valeria (Tauer) Schanus. She grew up in Sleepy Eye, attending St. Mary's Schools until 9th grade and then attending Sleepy Eye Public School where she graduated as salutatorian. Pat attended school to be a dental assistant and then worked for Dr. Kraght in Sleepy Eye for several years. She married Richard "Dick" Thoms on Feb. 22, 1964, at Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye and Pat continued her dental work for a few years until, with the help of her father, they started Thoms Plumbing, which they owned and operated until the present time. Pat was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and an active volunteer in the community, helping at the school, church or any other place that needed assistance. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and most of all her family.
Pat is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Thoms of Sleepy Eye; sons, Scott Thoms of Mankato and Steve and wife Beth Thoms of Novato, Calif.; mother, Valeria Schanus of New Ulm; brothers, Paul and wife Mary Schanus of New Ulm and Roger and wife Kim Schanus of Eden Prairie; and sister, Evelyn and husband Ed Kurr of Eden Prairie. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray.

Agnes Kessler
Agnes Kessler, 99, Shakopee, and formerly of Bird Island, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at St. Gertrude's Healthcare Center in Shakopee. Mass Of Christian Burial was held Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island, with Rev. George Schmit officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Dirks-Blem Funeral Home of Bird Island handled the arrangements.
Frances Agnes Kessler was born May 2, 1905, in Sleepy Eye, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Hartneck) Krzmarzick. Agnes was the oldest of nine children and attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Sleepy Eye. On Feb. 9, 1926, Agnes married John Kessler and they made their home in Sleepy Eye. In 1950, the family moved to a farm at Bird Island. John died in 1981 and in 1982, Agnes moved to White Bear Lake. In 1996, she entered St. Gertrude's Healthcare Center in Shakopee. Agnes was the consummate farm wife, having a huge garden, raising chickens and was a very hard worker. She enjoyed tending her large garden, was an excellent cook and baked wonderful breads, rolls and pies. She also enjoyed handiwork including tatting, quilting, embroidery and knitting. Agnes had a strong faith and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island.
Agnes is survived by her children, Lois and husband William Tisdell of Shakopee, Dolores and husband Frankie Marks of White Bear Lake and Jean and husband Gregory Merth of Crystal; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Linus and wife Angeline Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Gladys Hoffman of Sleepy Eye, Irene Utz of Springfield and Alyce and husband Gerald Schumacher of Comfrey. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brother, Sylvester Krzmarzick; sister, Martha Molden and two sisters in infancy. Blessed Be Her Memory.

Jose Carmona
Jose Carmona, 31, Sleepy Eye, formerly of Worthington, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, as the result of an auto accident near Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, on Thursday, Oct. 21, 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. The clergy will be Father Samuel Perez. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family via www.sturmfh.com.
Jose was born April 11, 1973, in Mexico, the son of Rafael Carmona, Sr. and Marie DeLourdes Moreno. He married Ruby Trevino on Sept. 8, 2000, in Worthington. Jose worked for Vanderwerf Construction in Springfield.
Jose is survived by his wife, Ruby of Sleepy Eye; father, Rafael Carmona of Sleepy Eye; brothers, Rafael Carmona and wife Carlotta of Comfrey and Ricardo Carmona of St. Paul; sister, Juana C. De Mora and husband Juan De Mora of Sleepy Eye; father-in-law, Arnoldo Lucio; and mother-in-law, Janie Trevino.
