Rose Mary Reiner
Rose Mary Reiner, 82, Springfield, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato, as a result of strokes. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Aug. 11, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church. Springfield, with interment in the church cemetery. Father Dennis Labat officiated. Rose Mary was born June 18, 1922, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Fred and Josephine (Hillesheim) Mickelson. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye. Rose was united in marriage to Alfred "Fritz" Reiner on Sept. 22, 1941, in Sleepy Eye. Following marriage, they farmed near Springfield and later owned the New Ulm Meat Market. After Alfred's death in 1981, Rose moved to Springfield. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, the Altar Society and donated much of her time to her church, particularly in creating quilts. Rose also had been a member of the Garden Club and loved arranging flowers and having a large flower garden. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
She is survived by son, Steven and wife Jeanne Reiner of North Mankato; daughters, Peggy Reiner and partner Bonnie Kaufman of Salt Lake City, Utah, Sue and husband Ed Pankratz of Mankato and Jan and husband Douglas Raushel of Aitkin; daughter-in-law, Margaret Reiner of Chatfield¼; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Joe and wife Jean Mickelson; sisters, Ruth Rono, Esther Greenberg and Mary and husband Donald Hacker; and special niece, Karen Greenberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred "Fritz;" son, David; sister, Lucille; and brother, Frederick.

Lois E. Rembold
Lois E. Rembold, 79, Scotland, S.D., died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital, Scotland. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scotland, with interment in Rosehill Cemetery, Scotland. The clergy was Rev. Ken Johnson.
Lois Ethel Rembold was born June 25, 1925, to Fred and Bessie (Bower) Newlon in Mitchell, S.D. She grew up in Mitchell, graduating from Mitchell High School in 1943. She attended the Mitchell Baptist Church, where she was baptized as an adult. Lois attended Sioux Falls College and earned a one-year teaching certificate. She taught at a country school near Milltown, S.D. She met Richard "Rusty" Rembold during her time as a teacher and they were united in marriage on July 14, 1946, at the First Baptist Church in Mitchell. Lois joined the Lutheran Church following her marriage. After getting married, she taught for a time, then quit teaching to raise a family. To this union were born Barbara, Marlene, Wanda, Roger, Joyce, Lillian and Joan. They farmed in the Kaylor and Parkston areas until 1954, when they moved to Rapid City. In 1958, they moved to Sleepy Eye and farmed until returning to Scotland in 1960. Lois was a homemaker and enjoyed helping many people. She always had a smile, loved her family and appreciated visits from friends and relatives. The grandchildren knew that Grandma's purse always had candy. She enjoyed gardening, canning and making preserves for herself and to share. She will be remembered for making the very best doughnuts and kuchen. She was an avid reader and letter writer. Lois was a member of the Lutheran Ladies' Aid, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Scotland Historical Society. Lois suffered a stroke in 1995, which left her in a wheelchair. She remained at home until entering the Scotland Good Samaritan Center in March of 2004. She developed pneumonia and entered Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital in Scotland on July 30 where she died.
Grateful for having shared Lois' life are her daughter, Marlene Rembold of Scotland; daughter, Wanda (Larry) Dolejsi of Yankton and grandchildren Carrie (Willie) Russaw of Yankton, Melissa (Scott) Plath of Yankton, and Laura (Michael) Schumacher of Rapid City; her son, Roger (Rosa) Rembold of Kaneohe, Hawaii and grandchildren Vince (Lori) Dydasco of Hawaii Kai, Elvin (Jolyn) Dydasco of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Jose (Misty) Dydasco of Honolulu, Hawaii, Millie Dydasco of San Mateo, Calif. and Lourdes (Edward) Pedemonte of San Francisco, Calif.; daughter, Joyce Brunken of Yankton and grandchildren Megan (Adam) Hansen of Pierre, S.D. and Jeff Brunken of Yankton; daughter, Lillian (Elden) Helms of Creighton, S.D. and grandchildren Elizabeth, Emily and Eli Helms, all of Creighton; daughter, Joan Rembold of Honolulu, Hawaii; 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Grace Caffey of Duluth.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, on May 24, 2004; daughter, Barbara Ann; parents, Fred and Bessie Newlon; brother, Robert Newlon; in-laws, Ruben and Olga Rembold, Louise and John Burr, Chet Sharley, Clarence Rembold, Betty Paulsen; and nephew, John Newlon.
Casket bearers were Adam Hansen, Scott Plath, Norman Rembold, Roger Rembold, Willie Russaw and Michael Schumacher. Honorary casket bearers were Mark Araiza, Don and Barb Cisar, Larry Dolejsi, Elden Helms, Jim Rembold, Walter and Viola Rembold and all of Lois' grandchildren.

Wallace J. Johns, Sr.
Wallace J. Johns, Sr., 82, Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, on Saturday, Aug. 14, with interment in the church cemetery. Military Rites were performed by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Father Brian Oestreich officiated the ceremony. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family via www.sturmfh.com.
Wallace was born on Sept. 27, 1921, in Essig, the son of Henry and Amanda (Eineke) Johns. He grew up in Sleepy Eye and attended St. John's School. He entered the United States Army Air Corps in 1942. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Sleepy Eye and worked at Del Monte Corporation. Wallace married Theresa Breu on Oct. 5, 1948, in Searles. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye and Wallace continued to work at Del Monte until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, hunting and trapping.
Survivors include daughters, Linda and husband Gerald Reiffenberger of Somerton, Ariz. and Bonnie and husband Steven Ladd of Cambria; son, Wallace and wife Kathy Jo Johns of Mankato; and five grandchildren, Dyani and Robyn Ladd and Jessica, Samantha and Thomas Johns. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Theresa in 1988; and two brothers.

James A. Riederer
James A. Riederer, 84, Apollo, Pa., formerly of Comfrey, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 14, at St. James Catholic Church in Apollo, with burial in Greenwood Veterans Memorial Park, Lower Burrel, Pa.
James was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Mulligan Township, the son of Leo and Matilda Platz. He was a World War II Veteran. James farmed and retired from the steel mill in Vandergrift, Pa. He was also a member of the Kiski Township Fire Department.
James is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James Jr. and Deb Riederer, Jeff and Donna Riederer and Joe Riederer; daughter, Cathy Riederer; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilbert Riederer, Brother Cletus and Gerald Riederer; sisters, Alyce Sprenger, Marie Hillesheim and Marlene Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John Riederer, Eugene Riederer and Leonard Riederer.

Arnold Schultz
Arnold Ivan Schultz, 72, Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 16, 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery. Dr. David Preuss officiated. Military Honors were performed by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. Condolences may be sent to the family via e-mail to www.sturmfh.com
Arnold Ivan Schultz was born July 30, 1932, in Sundown Township, Redwood County, the son of Albert W. and Adina M. (Zimmerman) Schultz. He graduated from West Central Agricultural School in Morris in 1949, and was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1953. Arnold was united in marriage to Arlene I. Willaby on June 3, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, Arnold started farming in Brookville Township where he lived his entire life. He also owned and operated a truck for hauling sweet corn and peas for Del Monte, as well as being a grower. Arnold was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield and had served on the church board. He was also a member of the Sleepy Eye Servicemen's Club, the Morgan VFW, the Eagle's Club and had served on the Cobden District 230 School Board. Arnold enjoyed farming, trucks and his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene of rural Sleepy Eye; children, Jerry and wife Vicky Schultz of Springfield, Kevin Schultz of Fairfield, Calif., Pam and husband Terry Wendt of Springfield, Connie and husband Gilman Dahlberg of Sleepy Eye and Keith "Sam" and wife Miki Schultz of Sleepy Eye; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Leona and husband Arnold Willaby of Mountain Lake, Verna and husband Darrell Timm of Lamberton and Alice and husband Richard Boettger of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law; and granddaughter, Jennifer Schultz.

Gerald Miller
Gerald Miller, 65, Hanska, died of cancer Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at his home. Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 21, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hanska, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Marcia Hegna officiated.
Gerald Dale Miller, the son of Axel and Lillian (Fast) Miller, was born Jan. 21, 1939, in New Ulm. He grew up on the family farm in Lake Hanska Township and graduated from Hanska High School in 1956. Gerald was united in marriage to Sharon Welke Nov. 26, 1960, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. He spent his lifetime working on the family farm, retiring in January 2004. Gerald was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hanska, where he served as financial secretary-treasurer, Trustee, was a member of the Property Maintenance Board and the church choir. He also served on the Lake Hanska Township Board for several years. Gerald enjoyed farming, bowling, listening to Christian music, watching Christian programs and spending time with family and friends.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Sharon of Hanska; daughter, Tammy Dotson of Owatonna; sons, Tim Miller and wife Jill of Hanska and Todd Miller and his wife, Kelly of Hanska; sisters, Margie Paulson and her husband LaVerne of Hanska, Colleen Annexstad and her husband Gregg of Port Townsend, Wash. and Carol Miller and her husband, Paul of Belmond, Iowa; brother, Don Miller and his wife Ethel of Savage; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Miller of Hanska, Leatrice Ellanson and her husband Duane of New Ulm, Dolores Baier of New Ulm and Lonnie Wieseler and her husband Jim of Good Thunder; brothers-in-law, Rodger Welke and his wife Monica of Madelia and Jerry Welke of New Ulm; grandchildren, Nathan, Rachel and Tiffany Dotson, Shannon Carlson and her husband Aaron, Kyle, Aaron and Kelsey Miller, and Jaden Miller; great-grandchildren, Malichi and Kinzie Carlson; and many nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allan; sister-in-law, Lyneece Welke; and brother-in-law, Jim Baier.

Hilarius "Larry" John Tauer
Hilarius John Tauer, 89, Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at Sleepy Eye Care Center. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday, Aug. 25, with interment in the church cemetery. The clergy was Fr. Brian Oestreich. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
Larry was born Dec. 15, 1914, in Mulligan Township, Brown County, the son of George G. and Anna (Helget) Tauer. Larry married Marie Wiltscheck at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye on June 5, 1940. After their marriage, Larry and Marie farmed in Mulligan Township, where Larry also did corn-shelling, custom silo-filling and trucking. They retired and moved to Sleepy Eye in 1981 and Larry has lived at the Sleepy Eye Care Center since 2003. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the NFO, Farmer's Union, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Aid Association. He enjoyed fishing and especially loved deer hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Tauer of Sleepy Eye; children and their spouses, Donald Tauer of Harrison, Ark., Patricia and Raymond Alt of Sleepy Eye, Marlene and Donald Chambers of Stillwater, Charles and Pamela Tauer of Glencoe, Okla., Dennis and Rita Tauer of Jordan, David and Wanda Tauer of Sleepy Eye, and Jerome and Bonnie Tauer of Harrison, Ark.; 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Fredrick and wife Janet Tauer of Sleepy Eye, Alcuin and wife Arlene Tauer of Sleepy Eye, and Cletus and wife Ramona Tauer of Luck, Wisc.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry, Jr. in 2003; and brothers, Martin Tauer and Roland Tauer.
