Helen G. (Zander) Reinarts
Helen G. (Zander) Reinarts, 85, Springfield, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Home. Visitation was at Sturm Funeral Home on Sunday, May 9, 5-8 p.m. and on Monday May 10, 7:30-9:30 a.m. Services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. The clergy was Fr. Brian Oestreich, with interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family via www.sturmfh.com.
Helen was born Sept. 20, 1918, in New Ulm, the daughter of William and Mary (Souschka) Zander. Helen was the youngest child of William and Mary. She attended school in New Ulm. Helen married Emil Reinarts on Feb. 14, 1939, at Holy Trinity Cathedral in New Ulm. After marriage they moved to a farm in Prairieville Township near Cobden and lived there until becoming a resident at St. John Lutheran Home. She worked at the Garment Factory in New Ulm, West Side and East Side in Cobden, Municipal West Side and East Side in Sleepy Eye. Helen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards and other games, crocheting and spending time with family.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Pauline and husband Beach Roberts of Sanborn; four grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren including Paul and wife Beth Roberts and children, Michael, Katie, Andrea and Jon of Lawton, Iowa; Sherri and husband Brian Keck and children, Krista and Heather of Fairmont; Jo Karow and children - David, Ashtyn and Chelsey of Sleepy Eye; and Pat Roberts and Jennifer and children, Jordan and Miranda of Mankato. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil; sisters, Viola Braun, Dorothy Braun and Verna Portner; and brother, William Zander.

Margaret Bertrand Staff
Margaret Bertrand Staff, 89, Ramsey, Ill., died Monday, June 7, 2004, at her family residence. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ramsey. A rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Mass of Christian Burial is set for 10 a.m., Thursday, June 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ramsey, with interment in the church cemetery. Hohlt and File Funeral Home of Vandalia, Ill. handled the arrangements.
Margaret was born Jan. 3, 1915, in Sleepy Eye, the daughter of Aloysius and Magdalen (Steffen) Bertrand. She married Edmund Peter Staff, Jr. on Nov. 20, 1943 in Maywood, Ill. Margaret graduated form St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester in 1937. Her surgical career included Mayo Clinic, Rochester; Hines Veterans Hospital in Maywood; and Huber Memorial Hospital in Pana, Ill. Margaret and Ed developed their farm into Ramsey Lake Golf Course in 1966 and retired in 1978. Margaret was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Society and Shangri Law Bridge Club.
Margaret is survived by her children and their spouses, Margaret Ann and Donald Jones of Ramsey, Ill., Janet and Len Nuzback of Ramsey, Ill., Mary and Frank Hayes of Edwardsville, Ill., Deborah and Ron Smith of Bourbonnais, Ill., Edmund Peter Staff III, Vandalia, Ill., Loy and Cheryl Staff of Ramsey, Ill., John and wife Jill Staff of Walton, Ky., and Sylvia and Joe Thull of Ramsey, Ill.; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Bertrand of Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law, Ruth Bertrand of Sleepy Eye, Lucille Bertrand of St. Paul and Nellie Staff of Manhattan Kans. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edmund; brothers, Rev. Leonard, Cornelius, Rev. Aloysius, Tom and James; and sisters, Marcella and Mildred; and two infant sisters.

Robert J. Heymans
Robert J. Heymans, 78, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Sleepy Eye, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Regency Care Center in Monroe, Wash. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. in the Divine Providence Chapel on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of services at the chapel on Tuesday. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
Robert J. Heymans was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Martin and Veronica (Jungers) Heymans. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He attended St. Mary's School for 12 years. After high school, Robert moved to Minneapolis, attending the University of Minnesota through the US Navy V-12 program. Robert married Catherine (Guldan) Heymans on April 12, 1947. Following graduation, he worked for Stanley Aviation as a project manager of the first jet ejection seat. He then worked for Martin Marietta Corporation in the aerospace industry. Robert was involved in many fascinating projects including the Titan missiles; Skylab, the nation's first space station and such things as the drill-bit used to retrieve core samples of the moons surface during lunar exploration missions. One of his passions was flying single and twin-engine airplanes, logging many hours at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Airport. He was an avid bird hunter and field trial enthusiast. He also loved skiing and became a ski instructor at Winter Park, Colo.
Robert is survived by sons, Michael of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and Jerry of Winona; daughters, Patt (Heymans) Nowfel of Aurora, Colo.; and Mary Elizabeth (Heymans) Moon of Duvall, Wash.; grandchildren, Blake and Ross Heymans of Winona, and Kyla Grace Moon of Duvall, Wash.; sister, Francis Heymans; brother, Philip Heymans; and sister-in-law, Betty (Mandel) Heymans; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Therese Heymans of Denver, Colo.

James Jerome "Romey" Johnson
James Jerome (Romey) Johnson, 90, Bloomington, formerly of Sleepy Eye, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at N.C. Little Hospice in Edina. He had fallen and fractured his hip on Thursday, June 10, 2004. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye on Saturday, June 19, with interment in Prairieville Cemetery, rural Sleepy Eye. The clergy was Father Brian Oestreich. Romey was born April 15, 1914, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Frank and Tracy Johnson. He graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School at the age of 16. He married Audrey Caven on Oct. 14, 1940, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. The couple lived most of their married life in Sleepy Eye. After 44 years of working at Del Monte, Romey retired in 1976. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and most of all being around his family.
Romey is survived by his children and their spouses, Judy and Gary Goblirsch of Bloomington, Jeff and Connie Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Brad and Maria Johnson of Smyrna, Tenn., grandchildren, Tim Goblirsch, Stephanie and Rob Clarke, Kimberly and Michael Ramirez, Sheila and Eric Princl, Jazmin Johnson, James "JP" Johnson and Matthew Johnson; great-grandchildren, Bobby Clarke, Dylan and Katelyn Princl, and Mikayla Ramirez; brother, Jerry and wife Colleen Johnson of Bloomington; sister, Alice Rothmeier of Faribault; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; his parents; sister, Francis and husband Les Hansen; brother-in-law, Ed Rothmeier; and twin great-grandchildren.

Margaret Braulick
Margaret (Mrs. Harold) Braulick, 78, New Ulm, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, the Braulick family prefers memorials to the donor's choice.
Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 18, at The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Father John A. Richter officiated.
Margaret Dorothy Braun was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Stark Township, Brown County, to Lawrence and Dorothy (Zander) Braun. She married Harold Braulick on June 10, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage, they farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County. They farmed there for 42 years until retiring and moving to New Ulm in 1989. Margaret loved being with her family and enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing and gardening. She was a member of The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Society.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Harold Braulick of New Ulm; daughters and son-in-law, Dianne and Frank Smasal of Madison Lake and Joleen and Dan Sundvall of Champlin; sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Diane Braulick and Don and Marlene Braulick, all of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Agatha Guttum of New Ulm and Rosile and Nick Hauser of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Craig Smasal on April 23, 1998; and by a great-granddaughter, Samantha Johnson on July 7, 2001; a brother and sister-in-law, Norbert and Alice Braun.

Frank Eichberger
Frank Eichberger, 81, Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday, June 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with Father John Richter officiating the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Frank was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Bensenville, Ill., the son of Joseph and Anna (Prashartz) Eichberger. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. Frank and Mary Sellner Sellner were married on Nov. 8, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Frank farmed for 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW and the American Legion. In his retirement, Frank enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Frank is survived by his wife, Mary of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Mary Jean and husband David Janni of New Ulm, Monica and husband Walt Duran of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and JoAnn and husband Glen Osmonson of Sleepy Eye; sons, Steve Eichberger of Springfield, Peter and wife Jean Eichberger of Sleepy Eye and Paul and wife Elena Eichberger of Mankato; 11 grandchildren; sister, Mary Zembal of Aberdeen Wash.; sisters-in-law, Marie Eichberger of Corpus Christi, Tex. and Fay Eichberger of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Eichberger on March 16, 1979; sister, Ray Wolf; brothers, Tony Eichberger, John Eichberger and Bill and wife Pauline Eichberger; and two half-sisters.

LuLu Guhlke
Lulu Irma Guhlke, 73, Sleepy Eye, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services were Saturday, June 19, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. The clergy was Pastor Timothy Grams. Lulu was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Cottonwood County, the daughter of Martin Phillip and Marie Caroline (Weber) Kessler. Lulu attended Zion Lutheran School for eight years and graduated from Sanborn High School in 1948. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn. After graduation, she moved to Sleepy Eye and worked for Pietrus for five years. Lulu married Arnold Guhlke on Aug. 25, 1951 and the couple lived in Sleepy Eye. In 1958, they moved to a farm north of Sleepy Eye. While Lulu was on the farm, she enjoyed raising her children and helping Arnold. She worked for AUI from 1970-1990, on a part-time basis. Arnold and Lulu retired from farming and moved to Sleepy Eye in 2001. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sleepy Eye. Lulu enjoyed working at church and was a member of the Ladies Aid, serving as treasurer. She also loved music, travel, playing cards and dominos, reading and shuffleboard while in Mesa, Ariz. Arnold and Lulu have gone to Mesa since 1994.
Lulu is survived by her husband, Arnold of Sleepy Eye; children, Douglas and wife Bonnie Guhlke of Sioux Falls, S.D., Greg and wife Sandy Guhlke of North Mankato, Keith and wife Jill Guhlke of Mankato and Julie Ibberson of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Alan and Amanda Guhlke, Jacquelyn and Paul Ibberson, Elizabeth and Denise Guhlke and Macaulay and Madison Guhlke; brothers, Donald and wife Dee Kessler of Nicollet, Dennis and wife Rita Kessler of Granite Falls, and Warren and wife Jan Kessler of Grimes, Iowa; sister, Doris and husband Rudy Vanden Broek of Middle Town, Calif.; and her Arizona friends and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Vernon Kessler and grandson, Matthew Guhlke.
