Delores M. Lund
Delores M. Lund, 73, Fairfax, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004, at the Fairfax Community Home. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 20, 11 a.m., at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 19, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday, one hour prior to the time of services at the church. Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
Delores Mae (Podratz) Lund was born May 27, 1930, in Moltke Township, Sibley County. She was the daughter of Henry and Edna (Niebuhr) Podratz. Delores was baptized on June 9, 1930, and later was confirmed on June 2, 1944, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. She received her education at Immanuel Lutheran School and Gibbon Public Schools. Delores was united in marriage with Ervin Lund on Dec. 16, 1947, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. The couple farmed in the Minnesota River Valley until they moved into Fairfax in 1967. Delores worked at various local restaurants during her life. She last worked at the Corner Cafe in Fairfax until she retired in the late 1990s. When Delores needed assistance with her daily care, she entered the Fairfax Community Home in May of 2003. Delores was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Fairfax. She also belonged to the Fairfax VFW Auxiliary, where she helped serve the National Veterans Home and the National Children's Home. She enjoyed volunteering and serving others. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed being with her many friends and acquaintances. She also enjoyed catering for VFW steak fries, bowling, listening to old time music, following Minnesota Twins games and listening to books on tape.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Edna Podratz; and sister, Burnell Gohr. She is survived by her husband, Ervin Lund of Fairfax; sons, Dennis and wife, JoDell Lund of Fairfax and Kyle Lund of Fairfax; daughter, Sandra Lund of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Troy Lund, Shawn Lund, LeAnn Domeier, Cayla Lund and Lisa Barker; step-grandson, Steve Weston; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Christopher, Andrew and Carson; step great-grandchildren, Steve, Ben, Veronica and Marcus; sisters, Luella and husband Lester Draeger of Winthrop and Renee and husband Allen Schmit of New Ulm; brother, William and wife Orda Podratz of Albert Lea; and several aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Angela Marie Rosenhammer
Angela Marie Rosenhammer, age 67, of Mankato died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester as a result of a one car accident on Thursday, May 13.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 18, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato, with Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Interment was in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.
Mrs. Rosenhammer was born May 25, 1936, in Springfield, to Matt and Eleanor (Lang) Turbes. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1954 and continued her education at Mankato Commercial College. She was united in marriage to Lee H. Rosenhammer on Oct. 11, 1958, in Springfield.
Angela had been employed by the Mankato School District 77 since 1986 and when she retired in 1999, she was in charge of the Media Center. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, C.C.W., Catholic Daughters and Y.W.C.A., where she had been a board member. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, fitness/health, nurturing her family, reading, but most of all, was Lee's personal secretary.
Angela is survived by her husband, Lee Rosenhammer; a daughter and husband, Cheryl and Frederick Fritz Bredenbeck of Edina; a son and his fiance', Brian Rosenhammer and Katherine White of Richfield; mother, Eleanor Turbes of Springfield; a brother and wife, Glen and Kathy Turbes of Willmar; a niece, Deb Jensen of Elk River; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Dennis and Mildred Rosenhammer and Patrick and Joan Rosenhammer, all of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her father in 2004.

Martha Braulick
Martha Braulick, 82, of McIntosh, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, April 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Casket bearers included Martin Rivera, Matt Rivera, Jeremy Braulick, Kenneth Ronning, Chad Kaiser and Joe Bertino. Honorary casket bearers included all of Martha's family and friends. Interment was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Beaulieu.
Martha Amelia Bauer was born on June 9,1927, in Eden, S.D., to John and Kathryn (Merton) Bauer. Her parents divorced when she was just a young girl and she and her sister and five brothers were placed in an orphanage in Eden. After completing the eighth grade, the seven siblings rejoined their father on the family farm where the boys worked with their father and the two sisters cooked and managed the family home.
She met Alfred Braulick in the Waubun area and she "fell in love" with his accordion. When the weather became "too cold" to date in his Model A, the couple married on Nov. 17, 1942, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu. To this union four children were born, Bill, Judy, Patti and Larry. The couple owned a gas station in Waubun for a time and lived in Greenbush, Thief River Falls and Erskine, before retiring in McIntosh in 1969.
Martha's passion in life were her children, grandchildren, gardening and the care and feeding of stray animals in McIntosh. She was a generous contributor to the ASPCA and area humane societies. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 6891 of McIntosh. Martha and Alfred were also in a band called "The Paul Bunyan Boys" that played at many area dances especially in the Thief River Falls area.
Survivors, include her son, Bill Braulick of Lubbock, Texas; daughters, Judy Rivera of McIntosh and Patti Halfaker of Grand Rapids; her "favorite sister," Bertha Sletton of Anaconda, Mont.; two brothers, Leo Bauer of McIntosh, and Joe Bauer of Woodinville, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred in 1991; son, Larry; one grandson; and brothers, Al, John and Robert.

Dorothy Francis Case
Dorothy Francis (Pree) Case, 85, Sleepy Eye, died Friday, May 14, 2004, at her home. Funeral services were held at Faith United Methodist Church, Sleepy Eye, on Wednesday, May 19, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye, with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. The clergy was Pastor Donn Rakow. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family via www.sturmfh.com
Dorothy Pree was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Milwaukee, Wisc., the daughter of Frank and Laura (Boeschenstien) Pree. She grew up in Milwaukee, graduating from Bay View High School and then Milwaukee State Teachers College with a degree in music. She taught in both Michigan and Wisconsin prior to becoming an aircraft inspector in Chicago. She was a proud member of the US Marine Corp's Women's Band, where she played the clarinet and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. This band was the only all-women's band in the Corp's history and they toured throughout the Eastern half of the United States playing concerts to sell war bonds. At the end of WWII, she met her future husband, Neil Case, also a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune. They married on Feb. 23, 1946, in Milwaukee and settled on the Case family farm in Home Township. In 1964, Dorothy returned to teaching with several years in Madelia and then accepted a position with the New Ulm Public Schools. After retiring in 1984, she continued to substitute teach into her 70s. In 1991, she was recognized as A Woman of Achievement by The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for her service to the teaching profession and the community. Dorothy helped organize the Retired Teachers Group for New Ulm teachers. She enjoyed attending community plays and concerts. She was honored as a key member of the music ministry of her church where she had served in various roles such as choir member, choir director, music director and organist over the past 50-plus years. She was a member of the Martha Circle and United Methodist Women. In her retirement, she enjoyed attending elder hostels around the county and frequent reunions with her sister Women's Marine band members. She was a member of the Sleepy Eye Community Band. Her favorite summer activity was swimming at her cabin on Diamond Lake. She often expressed her greatest treasures were her children but gave up long ago trying to keep track of what they were currently doing. Attending sports events, choir and band concerts where her grandchildren performed were of great enjoyment. She was an active gardener and enjoyed taking care of her yard. Her many gifts to her children include her gift of music and her attitude of gratitude for the abundance in her life.
Survivors include, sons, Neil "Chuck" and Diane Case, Jr., and Lee and Carol Case, of Sleepy Eye, and Scott and Anita Case of Princeton; daughters, Patricia Maltz of Minneapolis and Cindee Nelson and David Brand of Maple Plain; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Neil; daughter, Peggy, brother, Walter and sister-in-law Janet; and sister-in-law, Mary and husband Clifford Kiecker.

Reverend Sylvester L. Gall
Father Sylvester L. Gall, 92, Sartell, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Country Manor Health Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, May 19, at the Cathedral of St. Mary, St. Cloud, with Bishop John F. Kinney presiding. Entombment was in the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum, St. Cloud. Rose Fromm, Amanda Fromm and Jarod Bender, all of Sleepy Eye, attended the service, along with 65 priests. Arrangements were by the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Father Sylvester Leonard Gall was born Nov. 26, 1911, in Sleepy Eye, to Andrew and Anna (Trat) Gall. His family lived on a farm, the current golf course. As a young boy, Father Gall moved to Buckman with his parents. He attended District #115 Grade School, Morrison County; Crosier Seminary, Onamia; and St. John's University and Seminary, Collegeville. Father Gall was ordained by Bishop Joseph F. Busch on June 6, 1938, at St. John's Abbey Church, Collegeville. He celebrated his first Mass on June 12, 1938, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman. Father Gall served in the following assignments; assistant pastor, Church of St. Joseph, Pierz, September 1938-December 1938; Cathedral of St. Mary December 1938-July 1942; Chaplain at St. Raphael's Convent, August 1941-July 1942; pastor, Church of St. John, Swanville, and Church of St. Bernard, Ward Springs, July 1942-September 1954; Church of St. Nicholas, Belle River, September 1954-June 1958; Church of St. Nicholas, St. Nicholas, June 1958August 1959; Church of St. Andrew, Elk River, August 1959-June 1969; Church of St. Michael, Motley, June 1969-July 1981; Church of St. John Nepomuk, Lastrup, July 1981-July 1993. Father Gall retired in July 1993. He served as Chaplain at the Country Manor in Sartell until 1998. Father Gall was also a member of the Committee for On-Going Education of Priests, the Priests, Senate and the Diocesan Finance Council. Father was a very active member of Together Encountering Christ.
Father Gall is survived by his sisters, Rose Bauer of Hastings, Marie Baron of Royalton and Clara Collins of San Marcus, Calif.; brothers, Ewald of Pierz, Matthew of South Milwaukee, Wis. and Carl of Oak Creek, Wis.; sister-in-law, Bernadine Gall of Franklin, Wis.; 68 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph, Wendelin, Edward, Urban, John and Andrew; sisters, Anna Gall, Zita Aschenbrenner and Mechtildis Mischke; two nieces and two nephews.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the Catholic Aid Association Foundation, Father Sylvester L. Gall Education Fund to support Catholic Education in the St. Cloud Diocese.

Eugene "Gene" Schmid
Eugene "Gene" George Schmid, 83, New Ulm, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 26, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with interment in New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section. Full military honors were conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans organizations. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
Gene was born May 10, 1921, in Sleepy Eye, to William and Mary (Prokosch) Schmid. He farmed from 1951 to 1965 in Home Township, Brown County. On Aug. 7, 1965, Gene married Berneatta Weber-Mueller at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm He was self-employed as a carpenter in New Ulm, until retiring in 1984. He volunteered many hours at the Treasure Haus and the Lind House. Gene was a World War II Veteran, receiving the Purple Heart, a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV and St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his family and coffee buddies.
Gene is survived by his wife, Berneatta "Nita" Schmid of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Ron Hacker of Sterling, Va. and Jackie and Tom Roesch of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Ellen Mueller of St. Paul, Rod and Ginny Mueller of New Ulm, Dan and Laura Mueller of Minneapolis, Corey and Julie Schmid of Sauk Rapids and Charles and Stephanie Schmid of North Mankato; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Schmid of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Neoma Schmid of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ethelbert Schmid.

Leona Elizabeth Meidl
Leona Elizabeth (Lang) Meidl, 96, Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Divine Providence Community Home. Funeral services were held at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield, on Saturday, May 22, with Father Dennis Labat as clergy. Interment was at St. Raphael's Catholic Cemetery in Springfield. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. .
Leona Elizabeth (Lang) Meidl was born April 15, 1908, in Bashaw Township, the daughter of Andrew J. and Margaret (Kreitinger) Lang. She attended St. Paul Catholic School in Comfrey. Leona married Albert Meidl on Feb. 16, 1930, in Comfrey. The couple farmed south of Sleepy Eye and later farmed south of Springfield and in 1972, they retired and moved to Springfield. Leona moved to the Villa Maria Apartments in Sleepy Eye in 1994 and for the past three years has been at the Divine Providence Community Home. Leona was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield and St. Ann's CCW. She loved gardening, flowers, cooking, making quilts, crocheting, tatting, playing cards and she enjoyed her family and all of her grandchildren.
Leona is survived by her children, Phyllis Juenemann of Springfield, Bernetta and Herbert Windschitl of Cold Spring and Dennis and wife Janice Meidl of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Zenk of Olivia; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Lang of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sons-in-law; four sisters; and four brothers.
