Perry Charles Roiger
Perry Charles Roiger, 83, Springfield, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Springfield Medical Center. Funeral services were held at St. Raphael's Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 26, with interment in the church cemetery. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. Perry Charles Roiger was born May 26, 1920, the son of William and Catherine (Kraus) Roiger in Stately Township, Brown County. He attended Country School District 82 for eight years. Perry married Irene Stark on Feb. 5, 1945, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. They were the parents of seven children. Irene died March 9, 1980. Perry resided on the home place for 60 plus years where he farmed. On Nov. 7, 1982, Perry married Marie Fuchs at St. Raphael's Catholic Church. He was a supervisor for Stately Township for 30 years, served as clerk on the school board of District #82, Brown County, the Brown County Variance Board, Board of Directors of Springfield Elevator and a Pioneer Seed dealer for 16 years. Perry was lifetime member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a trustee for the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, supervising the sons' farming operations, visiting with family and friends and daily visits to the local coffee shops.
Perry Charles Roiger died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the Springfield Medical Center at the age of 83 years.
Perry is survived by wife, Marie; children, Diane Lang of Springfield, Phyllis (Lynn) Weber of Sanborn, Lenis (Roxanne) Roiger of Sanborn, Duane (Jan) Roiger of Springfield, Gary (Pat) Roiger of Sanborn, Alan (Paula) Roiger of Sanborn, and Arland (Cher) Roiger of Springfield; step-son, Greg (Diane) Fuchs of Sleepy Eye; 27 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Loretta Flor of St. John's Home, Springfield, Mildred (Ben) Mathiowetz of Morgan, and Adelia (Jim) Raydon of Hesperia, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Elsie Roiger of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Irene; brothers, Henry Roiger and Leo Roiger; son-in-law, Joseph S. Lang, Jr.; and two granddaughters.

Bernice A. Schmidt
Bernice Alma Schmidt, 83, Cottonwood, died April 1, 2004. A graveside service was held Wednesday, April 7, in the Heritage Memorial Park Cemetery in Dewey. In memoriam of Bernice, the family asks that donations be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, School Building Fund, 217 Walnut St. SE, Sleepy Eye. Westcott Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Bernice was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed traveling the United States.
Bernice leaves her husband of 63 years, Howard C. Schmidt; daughters, Nancy A. and husband Robert Hinshaw of Prescott and Linda L. Buchanan of Prescott Valley;brother, Curtis Schewe of Sleepy Eye; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Eigil Pedersen
Eigil Pedersen, 86, Sleepy Eye, died on Friday, March 26, 2004, at Sleepy Eye Medical Center, Sleepy Eye. Funeral services were held at Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye on Tuesday, March 30, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family via www.sturmfh.com. Memorials are preferred to the Sleepy Eye Medical Center and Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye.
Eigil "Pete" Pedersen was born Feb. 16, 1918, in Lake Benton, the son of Barthold and Dora Pedersen. Eigil attended grade school and high school at Arco. He continued to work in the Arco area for a while and on June 28, 1941, Eigil married Marvelyn Welsand at English Lutheran Church in Arco. Their children are James, who lives in Chaska and Danny, who lives in Memphis, Tenn. After Eigil served with the Military in Europe, they came to Sleepy Eye and he was hired by Al Beech. He worked at Beech Electric from 1945 to 1971, as a licensed electrician and refrigeration service man. In 1972, he established his own refrigeration business known as Pedersen's Service and continued working through retirement. He was actively involved with the community by holding a number of offices in the Faith United Methodist Church. He was a 20-year member of the Sleepy Eye Utilities Commission, a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He was involved in the Keystone Masonic Lodge and also a member of the Eastern Star. His pleasures included gardening and raising roses, plus spending time in his workshop.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marvelyn of Sleepy Eye; sons, James and wife Susan of Chaska and Danny and wife Saundra of Memphis, Tenn.; sister, Vivian of Tyler; grandchildren, Ryan and Erik; two great-grandchildren; and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Barthold and Dora Pedersen; in-laws, Otto and Mary Welsand; brothers-in-law, Carl Pedersen, Ronald Van Stelten and Ernst Hansen. Eigil enjoyed life and always found time to be with friends and family.

Donald Krueger
Donald L. Krueger, 75, Golden Valley, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at his son's home in Springfield. Services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church Monday, March 29, with interment in the church cemetery with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Donald Lester Krueger was born April 27, 1928, in Fairfax, the son of Gust and Irma (Bruess) Krueger. Donald served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a lumber yard manager in Clarkfield and Echo. Don married Phyllis Nosbusch on Oct. 25, 1952, in Beaulieu. They moved to Sleepy Eye in the early 60s, where Don managed the Steinke Seidl Lumber Yard. He later became a sales rep. for Citation Homes and in the mid-80s, they moved to Chaska where they built the Heritage Inn Motel. They were presently living in Golden Valley where they managed a public storage complex. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Knights Branch 720 and the VFW. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Golden Valley. Don enjoyed fishing, dancing and playing cards. Don especially enjoyed spending time with his family at lake Minnewaska.
Don is survived by his wife, Phyllis Krueger of New Ulm; sons, Gary and wife Mary Krueger of Springfield and Michael and wife Faye Krueger of Park City, Utah; daughters, Barbara and husband Dan Deibele of Long Prairie and Mary Jo and husband Tom Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye; eight grandchildren; and brother, Virgil and wife Loretta Krueger of Yakama, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eldon; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and wife Viola Nosbusch.

Viola A. Dombrouski
Viola A. Dombrouski, age 93, of St. Paul, longtime resident of Sleepy Eye, died March 1, 2004. Preceded in death by parents, Richard and Emma Mielke, former husband John Dombrouski, son John and daughter Gloria Williams. Survived by daughters Jean (Don) Birmingham, Monica (Harry) Pope, Joanne (Jack) Piche´ and Kathy (Keith) Carlson. Also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Viola's later life was enriched by the loving attentions of her daughters and the opportunity to travel. No visitation or funeral is planned. Private interment at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Millicent Holden
Millicent Justine Holden, 82, Mapleton, formerly of Amboy, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Mapleton Community Home. Funeral services were held at Jackson Lake Lutheran Church, Amboy on Monday, April 5, with interment in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. Millicent was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Lake Crystal, the daughter of N. Dee and Edna J. (Martinson) Holden. She grew up and attended school in Lake Crystal until 1935, when she moved with her family to Amboy. Millicent graduated from high school in 1940. After high school, she worked at Stokley Van Camp in Winnebago until the plant closed in the early 1970s. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal in 1936. Millicent was a member of Jackson Lake Lutheran, where she was an organist. She learned to play the piano and organ from her aunt and great aunt. Millie filled her life with music, singing in choirs and later forming a group called the Melody 5 that sang at nursing homes in the area. She enjoyed her family and was proud to be a great-great-great aunt.
Millicent is survived by her niece, Lynda and husband Richard Weilage of Sleepy Eye; nephew, Peter and wife Bonnie Holden of Big Sandy, Tex.; four great-nieces and nephews, nine great-great-nieces and nephews, and three great-great-great-nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by special friends, Grace Griffith, Phyllis Conrad, Darlene Runge, Roberta Wolrobe, Clare and Darlene Sorenson and numerous other friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Nathan and wife Imogene.

Orlene Horman
Orlene Alice Horman, 86, Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Gil Mor Manor Nursing Home, Morgan. Funeral services were Monday, April 5, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Schmucker Funeral Service of New Ulm handled the arrangements.
Orlene, daughter of Gust and Alma (Meyer) Vollmer, was born Oct. 15, 1917, in rural Lamberton. She married Kermit Horman on Feb. 23, 1947, in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Redwood County, farming west of Sleepy Eye in Brookville Township. Following her husband's death in 1951, Orlene moved into Sleepy Eye, where she was employed as a sales clerk in local stores, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Orlene is survived by sisters-in-law, Phyllis and husband Lester Larsen of Sleepy Eye, Idell Horman of Comfrey, Virginia Bendix of Echo and Thelma Vollmer of Sleepy Eye; niece, Audrey Horman of Eden Prairie; nephews, Armin and wife Joy Vollmer of Tucson, Ariz., Richard and wife Susan Horman of Loretto, Ronald and wife Laura Horman of Clements, Wyatt and wife Barb Bendix of Echo, Scott and wife Deb Bendix of St. Cloud, Paul and wife Jolene Bendix of Minneapolis and James Horman of Comfrey. In addition to her parents and husband, Orlene was preceded in death by her brothers, Armin Vollmer and Ralph Vollmer.
