Donna Eischen, 78, of Comfrey, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Arrangements are pending at Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey.

Roland "Butch" Erickson, 77, of Comfrey, died on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 at V. A. Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Services were held at the Sturm Funeral Home In Comfrey on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005. Interment was the Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Comfrey.
Arrangements were with the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Ericksen of Comfrey; children, Steve Ericksen of St. James, Dana Ericksen of St. James, Dawn Hanson of Eagan,and Darla Judes of Sheridan, Wyo.; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; siblings, Gloria Teuful of Storden, Francis "Ike" Ericksen of Comfrey, and Marion Pietz of Richland,WA.
Roland James "Butch" Ericksen was born March 12, 1927 in Evan, to Jens and Louise (Guhlke) Ericksen. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Edward J. Frank, 89, of Redwood Falls died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church In Redwood Falls, with burial in Crestlawn Gardens in rural Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls, and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Alice of Redwood Falls; a step son; Ernest Teeri of Redwood Falls; a step daughter Phyllis Day of Springfield, MO. and stepgrandchildren; sisters, Catherine Duscher of Lucan,Barbara Halvorson of Sioux Falls,and Emily Roberts of West Jordan, Utah.
He was born April 13, 1915 in Henryville Twp., Renville County, to Jacob and Mary (Budik) Frank.

Minnie Grund, 93, of Comfrey, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at the Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom.
Services for will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4 at the New Hope
Lutheran Church in Comfrey. Burial will follow in the Christian Reformed Cemetery in rural Mountain Lake.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday evening at the LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom and on Tuesday for one hour prior to services at the church in Comfrey.

Alex Guggisberg, 83, of Gibbon, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at the Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson.
Funeral arrangements are pending with MInnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon.

Isabella A. Kettner, 88, of 19131 Inndale rive, Lakeville, formerly of Nicollet died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at the McKee Medical Center in in Loveland, Colo.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. Burial will be in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Nicollet.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday. A complete obituary will appear in Thursday's edition of The Journal.

Lori Serbus, 44 of Arlington, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center after battling Multiple Sclerosis for 18 years.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Arlington.
A gathering of relatives and friends will take place at the church on Monday between 9 a.m. and service time. Burial will take place at the Arlington Public Cemetery. Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her children, Jessica Serbus of Arlington and Jeremy Serbus of Gaylord; two granddaughters and one grandson; her mother, Marilyn Boerner of Gaylord, her father, Marvin Pomplun of Glencoe; a sister, Lisa Mans of Gaylord; brothers, MarkPomplun of Henderson and Ricky Pomplun of Gaylord; and her grandfather, Hilbert Tessmer of Brownton.
Lori was born on Aug. 16, 1960 in Gaylord, Minnesota to Marvin and Marilyn (Tessmer) Pomplun.

Bernita Vanderwerf, 90, of Sleepy Eye died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye with Pastor Roy Vanderwerf and Pastor Fred Vanderwerf officiating. Burial will be in the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service, all at the church on Monday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Bernita is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Donna Frost of Brooklyn Center and Janice and Dennis Krueger of Svea and Tucson, Arizona; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Jody Vanderwerf of Windom, Roy and Sally Vanderwerf of Minneapolis, Twollie (Dean) Vanderwerf of Burnsville, and Kevin and Kim Vanderwerf of Oro Valley, Arizona; a step daughter, Geraldine Shaikoski of Fairmont; 21 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Roman Ripp of Waunakee, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wilbert Simon Vanderwerf on April 13, 1959; a daughter, Judith Grace Warnke on June 28, 2004; a grandson, Robert Warnke on May 31, 1995; sisters, Lila Bedow, Zela Wadsworth, and Verna Bartlow; half sisters, Thelma and Flossie Madden; and by a brother, Howard Madden; and a half brother, Parker Madden.
Bernita Grace Madden was born on August 30, 1914 to Edward Waldo and Elsie Elizabeth (Taylor) Madden near Amiret. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1932. On April 21, 1935,Easter Sunday, she married Wilbert Simon Vanderwerf at the Methodist church in Amiret.
For a time they both lived and worked at Bernita's parents farm near Amiret and at the home of Bernita's sister, Lila and Edwin Bedow near Arco. Later, they moved to Tracy and then Sleepy Eye. Wilbert worked various jobs until getting a permanent job with the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in 1946 in Sleepy Eye. Bernita worked at Del Monte in Sleepy Eye throuout most of the 60+ years that they lived a half block from the canning factory.
She was secretary of the United Methodist Women and the circle, President of the Degree of Honor Lodge, and adult 4-H leader for the Sleepy Eye Busy Bee's, on the board at the local Senior Citizen Center, active with the Sleepy Eye Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.

Elaine M. Reinhart, 74, of rural Gibbon, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan.7, at St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon. The C.C.W. will pray the rosary at 6 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. both Thursday at the funeral home.

Victor Weingartz, age 78, of Mapleton, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Immanuel St Joseph Hospital.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 7, at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Mapleton. Burial follows at 1 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.
Visitation is at the church on Thursday, 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7. Visitation resumes one hour before the funeral. Donations may be made to V.I.N.E. or American Legion Post 11.
Arrangements are handled by Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home, Mapleton.
Victor John was born on March 24, 1926 in Mankato to Joseph and Frances (Roiger) Weingartz. He attended Loyola High School before serving in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific aboard the USS New Kent from 1944-46. On May 14, 1955, Victor married Joyce Faye Karels at Ss. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church. For 37 years he worked for Northern States Power Company, first as a lineman and later as a trouble-shooter. Vic retired in the early 1980s. During his lifetime he enjoyed playing softball, golfing, bowling, fishing and hunting. A member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Vic was also a member of American Legion Post 11, Mankato VFW Post 950 and Mapleton VFW Post 5338.
Victor Weingartz is survived by two children, Jerry (Tammy) of Sleepy Eye and Michelle "Shelly" Zimmerman (Mike) of Mapleton; four grandchildren: Brandon Scott Sellner, and James, Todd, and Kevin Zimmerman; two brothers: Frank (Mildred) of North Mankato, and Don (Maryalice) of Mankato; two sisters: Mary DeMars of Faribault, and Loretta Sigafus (Allen) of Mankato; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, brothers George and Bill, sister Catherine and an infant sibling.

Rose Deml, 84, of 900 5th South Street in New Ulm, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at the Oak Hill Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 8, 2005 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM Friday and 7:30 - 10 AM Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Mary's Catholic Aid Society will pray the rosary at 6 PM, and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 PM both Friday at the funeral home.
Rose is survived by a son, Joseph Deml of New Ulm; a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Anna Marie Meyer of New Ulm; and by many nieces and nephews; She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo Deml on April 6, 1981; a daughter, Mary Therese Deml in infancy; sisters, Marie Bermingham, Helen Meyer in infancy, Veronica Meyer; and by brothers, Frank, William, Anthony and Karl Meyer.
Rose Pauline Meyer was born May 14, 1920 in Home Township, Brown County, to Joseph and Ottilia (Yeagle) Meyer. She married Hugo Deml on October 22, 1960 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where she worked as a homemaker. Rose was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm where she was very involved as a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Aid Society, funeral lunches, and the fall festival. Rose loved to garden and cook.

Isabella A. Kettner, 88, of 19131 Inndale Drive, Lakeville, Minnesota 55044, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at the McKee Medical Center in in Loveland, Colorado.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M., Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with Pastor Ron Siemers officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Nicollet.
Visitation will be 4-7 P.M. on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday.
Isabella is survived by daughter, LaVonne Propp of Lakeville; daughter-in-law, Norma Kettner of Minneapolis; son, Arlyn and his wife, Judy of Ft. Collins, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Mike Propp, Heidi Propp, David Kettner, Laurie Matthes, Todd Kettner, Kari Barrios and Shana Capozza; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Summers; and sisters, Harriet Dauer, Rosemarie Irrgang and Jackie Hopp.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Kettner on September 23, 1988, a son Loren Kettner; granddaughter Cindra Kettner; and siblings Robert Summers, Gladys Boeke and Edith Pehling.
Isabella A. (Summers) Kettner was born on May 19, 1916 to Edward and Rose (Ginkel) Summers, the third of eight children. She grew up in the greater Mankato, MN area and attended schools in Mankato and Nicollet, MN. In 1934, she married Walter J. Kettner of Nicollet. They farmed for a short time in Courtland, MN. In 1941, they purchased a farm near Nicollet and farmed there, raising their family, until retiring to Nicollet in 1973. As a long time and active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Isabella was a charter member of the Ladies Guild which began in 1939. She enjoyed travel and many crafts including sewing and crocheting. In 2002, unable to continue living alone, she moved to Lakeville, MN to live with her daughter, LaVonne. In October, 2004, while on a vacation trip to visit family in Fort Collins, CO, she became seriously ill and died there on December 29, 2004.
Family members remember Isabella for her always positive attitude, her kindness, her generosity and her adventurous spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.

Elaine M. Reinhart, 74, of rural Gibbon died Monday, January 3, 2005, at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2005 at St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon with Father Ron Huberty presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon. The C.C.W. will pray the rosary at 6:00 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. both Thursday at the funeral home.
Elaine is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Bruce Kellogg of Litchfield, LuAnn and Michael Schiller of Hutchinson, Jayne Reinhart of New York, New York, Jody and Steve Dummer of New Ulm, Nancie and Jim Carlson of Lafayette, Darla and Robert Jepma of Montevideo; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Juli Ann Reinhart of New Ulm, Patrick and Juli Reinhart, Peter and Becky Reinhart all of Gibbon; twenty one grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vernita and Donat Dummer of New Ulm, Mary Jane and Linus Beranek of St. George; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Reinhart of Fairfax. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Reinhart on April 22, 2000; and a son in infancy.
Elaine Margaret Berle was born on March 12, 1930, in Severance Township, Sibley County, to George and Eleanora (Gitter) Berle. She was a graduate of the school of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul. On October 6, 1949 she married Donald Reinhart at St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon. They farmed in Courtland until 1963. They then moved to her family farm place in Severance Township, Sibley County, and she lived there until her death. Elaine loved to cook and enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing cards and socializing with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon and was a member of the C.C.W. at church as well as a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Lady Bug Extension Club.

Gladys 'Beulah' Blumke, 71, of Green Isle, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Green Isle.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kolden Funeral Home, Arlington and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Willmsen of Arlington; two grandsons; her father, Gilbert Herd of Onamia; and a brother, Kenneth Herd of Brainerd.

Virginia Raabe-Schultz, 82, of Chaska, formerly of New Ulm died Thursday, January 6, 2005 at the St. Gertrude's Care Unit in Shakopee after a courageous struggle with cancer.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2005 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Donald Sutton officiating. Burial will be at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service on Monday.
Virginia is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Marlene Raabe of North Branch, Tom and Londa Raabe of Loveland, Colorado; a daughter, Jeannie Raabe of Chaska; grandchildren, Brian, Julie, Chad, Chantel, and Meghan; five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Darlane Krohn of New Ulm and Lillian and Lorraine Raabe; one special step-son, Mark Schultz of Rochester; three other step-children; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arlo Becker; her husband, Willard Raabe in 1953; her second husband, Don Schultz in 1985.
Virginia Katherine Becker was born on October 1, 1922 to George and Ella (Melzer) Becker in New Ulm. She graduated from New Ulm Public High School. On January 24, 1943, she married Willard Raabe in New Ulm.
Virginia enjoyed working in retail sales and spent sixty years in sales. While living in New Ulm, she worked at Salet's, Retzlaff's Hardware Store, Stone's, Roiger's and Eichten's Shoes. After marrying Don Schultz on June 5, 1971, they moved to Bloomington where she worked at Ward's Department Store the Elegant X. She retired after twenty years managing Kemmetmueller Photography in Wayzata. She returned to New Ulm for a few years and worked at the Glukenspeil Haus and Margaret's Clothing. She retired and moved to Chaska in 1995 where she lived the remainder of her life.
Virginia is best remembered for her love of baking and sharing the latest recipes with friends and neighbors. She also followed the Minnesota Gopher sports, the Twins, and the Vikings. Virginia was a strong and courageous woman, widowed twice, but always carrying on for her children and grandchildren. She was always an optimist and had faith that sustained her through good times and bad. Above all things, she lived her life showing that it was indeed better to give than receiveŠ
She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, past president of New Ulm Women's Bowling League, Secretary of Wayzata Bay Merchant's Association, President of the Waybury Social Club and frequent visitor at St. Andrew West Lutheran Church in Chaska.
