Marvin 'Buddy' Frank, 81, of New Ulm died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Public visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a private family graveside service at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Marvin is survived by his brothers, Otto and Herbert "Mike" Frank both of Countryside Apartments in Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Freida Johns, Sylvia Holm, Irma Grau, and Lillian Frank; and by brothers, Fred and Larry Frank.
Marvin was born on May 29, 1923, in Milford Township, Brown County to Alois and Mathilda (Fiemeyer) Frank. He attended District Nine country school. On March 5, 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Germany during World War II. He farmed near Essig until becoming a resident at the Sleepy Eye Care Center for the last five years.

Lillian Hansch 86 of Winthrop, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at the Sibley Medical Center, in Arlington.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Burial will be in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. tonight and will continue Wednesday from 7:30 ­ 8 a.m., at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Wednesday.
Lillian is survived by her husband, Samuel Hansch of Winthrop; daughters, Elizabeth Biermann of Winthrop, and Kathleen O'Neill of Winthrop; a stepson, Galen Hansch of Gaylord; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Klucas of Benson, and a brother, Donald Giese of New Ulm.
Lillian Harriet Walz Hansch was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Holloway, to William and Lauretta (Heldt) Giese.

Florence M. Gutknecht, 82, of Winthrop, passed away on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m., at the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 ­ 8 p.m., and Thursday from 7:30 ­ 8 a.m., at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Thursday.
Florence Marie (Messner) Gutknecht was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Bernadotte Twp., Nicollet Co., Minn. She was the daughter of Ben and Carrie (Miller) Messner. Florence graduated from Winthrop High School in 1941. Florence was united in marriage to Sidney Gutknecht on June 20, 1946, at the Parsonage of Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop.
Florence and Sid owned and operated the Princess Café in Winthrop from 1951 to 1954. Florence later worked at Lyle's Café, at Mid-Am (Dairy Farmers of America) from 1958 ­ 1984 and at Hands Inc., in Winthrop, until her retirement.
Florence resided at the Sibley Estates West apartments in Winthrop. When she needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center. Florence was a member of the Winthrop VFW Auxiliary.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sidney on May 9, 1996; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Joyce Messner and brother-in-law, Frances "Shorty" Schmidgall.
Florence is survived by her children, Brad Gutknecht and his wife, Linda of Hammond, Wis. Lorie Schauer and her husband, David of Winthrop and Tom Gutknecht and his wife, Kelly of New Ulm; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Mabel Schmidgall of Hancock; brother, Earl Messner and his wife, JoAnne of Anoka and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James 'Jim' R. Keim, 65,of St. Paul, formerly of Sleepy Eye died on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at Health East Care Center in St. Paul, Minn.
Visitation will be at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 12 p.m. -1 p.m.
Service will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
Survivors include his wife Margaret Keim of Roseville, daughters, Julie Keim of Roseville, Laura Keim of Roseville; three grandchildren; and mother, Elaine Keim of Hanska.
James "Jim" Robert Keim was born on July, 3, 1939, in Sleepy Eye, to Edmund and Elaine (Sommerfeld) Keim.

Gladys Mallary, 90, of New Ulm, died Monday, October 25, 2004, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 29 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father John A. Richter celebrating.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm with a parish prayer service scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be 10 ­ 11 a.m. Saturday at Schmitz Funeral Home in Clinton, Iowa, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Clinton.
Gladys Lorraine Lutz, the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Hanssen) Lutz was born April 21, 1914, in Clinton, Iowa, where she graduated from Clinton High School in 1932. Gladys was united in marriage to Eugene Mallary on September 29, 1936, in Clinton, Iowa. The family made their home in Clinton until moving to New Ulm in 1989. Eugene died December 29, 1990. Gladys was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clinton.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Weed and her husband Jim of New Ulm; son, Tom Mallary and his wife Vicki of West Minster, CO; daughter-in-law, Jane Mallary of Severn, MD; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Dennis Mallary and Jimmy Mallary; sister, Margaret Lutz White; brother, Charlie Lutz; and a sister and brother in infancy.
Memorials are preferred.

Nellie Phillips 84, of Madelia and formerly of Lake Crystal and Lafayette, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 29, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Lafayette, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before services at the church on Friday. Lake Crystal Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Georgia Reed of Darfur, Sharann Kiniffen of Bruno; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-granddaughters.

Vernon Watson, 81, of St. James, died on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
Service will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James on Friday, Oct. 29, at 10:30 a.m., with burial in the Butterfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James, on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 5-8 p.m., and continues at Augustana Lutheran Church on Friday Oct. 29, from 9:30 -10:30 a.m.
He is survived by his wife, LaVonne of St. James; sons, Terry "Cub" Watson of St. James, Lonny Watson of Ormsby, and Lynn Watson of St. James; daughter, Jana Falk of St. James; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Henry Watson of Mott, N.D.; and sister, Eulalia Wilson of Bradenton, Fla.
Vernon Clifford Watson was born March 29, 1923 to Quinn and Millie (Hughes) Watson in Elkton, Ky.

Melroy 'Mel' W. Fenske, 71, of Mankato, and formerly of Gibbon, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Mankato.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28 at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park.

Donald A. Kempfert, 79, of Clements, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, at Sunwood Care Center, Redwood Falls.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m., Friday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service, Redwood Falls.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Building Fund.
He is survived by his wife, Nora of rural Clements; sons Ken of Madison, Wis., Dale of Whaleyvale, Va., Wayne of Minneapolis, Lyle of Lake City, Fla., Curt of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Noel of Prior Lake; and a daughter, Joyce Badders of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was born Dec. 1, 1924 in Three Lakes Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Albert and Louisa (Gulden) Kempfert.

Edward Lehman, 95, of Sleepy Eye and formerly of Berlin, Wis., died Sunday, October 24, 2004 at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Berlin,Wis. with burial in the church cemetery. Father Jerome Maksvytis will officiate.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
Edward is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Russell Gaylord of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Elsy Lehman of Fort Myers, Fla., Gerald and Marylee Lehman of Pine River, Wis.; grandchildren, Kerri and Steve Hofman, Kurt and Laura Gaylord, all of New Ulm, Kelly and Rick Pierson of Sanborn, Kay and Steve Kowalke of St. Cloud; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Margaret; a son, Tom; brother, Walter; sister, Isabelle Pick; and a daughter-in-law, Crystal Lehman.
Edward Martin Lehman was born Aug. 28, 1909, in Green Lake County, Wis. to Joseph and Helen (Fralish) Lehman.

Emma Ness, 94, of 530 East 11th Street in Gibbon, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at the Glencoe Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2004 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon with Pastor Richard J. Kuckhahn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to the time of service at the church on Friday.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon is handling the local arrangements.
Emma is survived by her husband, Ernest Ness of Gibbon; a son, Robert Ness of Gibbon; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Brent Jaekel of Gibbon; granddaughters, Jessica and her son, Michael of Gibbon, and Nicole and Jeremy Riecke and their sons, Spencer, Max, and Alex of Gibbon; a brother and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Wilma Meyer, Lucille Meyer all of Henry County, Ohio; and by many nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Otto, Walter, and Alvin Meyer.
Emma Marie Meyer was born on July 26, 1910, in Henry County, Ohio to Herman and Sophie (Gobroegge) Meyer. On April 6, 1942, she married Ernest Ness at the parsonage of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Henry County, Ohio. Emma enjoyed flower gardening and working with stained glass. She was dedicated to her family and her church. Emma was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon.

Mabel 'May' Pauling, 96, of Lamberton, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at Valley View Care Center in Lamberton.
Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton.

Kenneth J. Ulmen, age 70, of Madelia, died on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, at the Madelia Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madelia.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 28 from 4-8 p.m. at Pilgrim Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Madelia.
Kenneth Joseph Ulmen was born on August 6, 1934 in Mankato, MN to Edmund and Helen (Hilgers) Ulmen. Kenneth joined the U.S. Army in 1954. He farmed with his father until 1962. On March 3, 1962, he married Carmen Forster at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. He farmed until retirement in 1993. He enjoyed golf, cards, and all sports. Kenneth served on the St. Mary's School Board and was a member of the American Legion.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Carmen of Madelia; son Michael and his wife Jodi of Madelia; daughter Melissa Mays and her husband Ken of Kempner, TX; grandchildren: Darrek and Michaela Ulmen, Amanda Byro and Alan Mays; brother Richard Ulmen and his wife Dianne of Brainerd, MN; four sisters-in-law: Janice Ulmen of Madelia, Ethel Schultz of Madelia, Marie Ulmen of New Ulm, and Eileen Ulmen of Madelia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Jerry, Mark, Ray and Doug; one sister-in-law Jolene; and one nephew Stephen.
