Vincent Gustafson

Vincent Albert Gustafson, 86, Crosslake, died Dec. 29, 2004, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village, Brainerd.
Vincent was born on Feb. 20, 1918, to Per August and Marie Anna (Olson) Gustafson. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Outing.
Survived by stepsons: Harry (Jan) Vandervort, Reedsport, Ore., Lauren (Lucille) Vandervort, South Haven, William (Julie) LaBorde, Crosby, Randy (Sharon) LaBorde, Randolph, James (Kathy) LaBorde, Crosby; stepdaughters, Jeanene Roberts, Santa Maria, Calif., Marilyn (Eugene) Moritz, Crosby, Dianna (Richard) Erickson, Modesto, Calif., Wendy (Harry) Johnson, Crosslake, Judy (Greg) Steinke, Deerwood; stepdaughter-in-law, Jennifer Turner, Deerwood; brother, Harding Gustafson, Ironwood, Mich.; 25 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jessie, and second wife, Phyllis, five brothers and one sister.
Services were January 2 at the Koop Funeral Home, Crosby. Burial was in Pinewood Cemetery, Crosslake.

William Hines
1913 - 2004 1; Brainerd
William "Bill" Hines, 91, Brainerd, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village Care Center in Brainerd.
He was born on May 13, 1913, in Sylvan, Minn., to Everett and Ida Mae (Palmer) Hines. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Bill worked for Northern Pacific Railroad, Northwest Paper Co. and Les Roberts Sand and Gravel. Bill enjoyed the outdoors. He loved hunting, trapping and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Florence (Selen) Hines of Brainerd; son Donald (Illa) Hines of Brainerd; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Lyle, Albert and Melvin Hines; and sister Esther Tuholski.
Services were Dec. 30 at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor Lilja Behr officiating. Military honors were provided by Brainerd VFW No. 1647. Burial was in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Ripley.

Edward Holsapple
1926 - 2004; Nisswa
Edward "Pat" Holsapple, 78, Nisswa, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at his home in Nisswa.
Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at 1:30 pm at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor Ron Keysor officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, from 5 pm-8 pm at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Kenneth Inselman
1923 - 2004 1; St. Cloud
Kenneth J. Inselman, 81, died Friday, December 24, 2004 at the VA Medical Center, St. Cloud.
Kenneth was born April 24, 1923 in Austin, to Jake and Mary (Platt) Inselman. He married Elizabeth A. VonLoh on February 14, 1947 in Litchfield. Ken served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was employed as a plumber/pipefitter in the St. Cloud area. He was the Deputy VAVS Rep. for the Military Order of Cootie, PT 62, and volunteered at VA Medical Center for over 47 years. Ken was a member of Fifty Lakes Sportsmen Club. He enjoyed the long weekends at the cabin on the lake near Fifty Lakes, cutting firewood, having large bonfires and the time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by wife Elizabeth Inselman of St. Cloud; son and John J. (Maria) Inselman of Steilacom, Wash.; daughters Linda Bergum of St. Anthony Village, Jeanne M. Inselman of Minneapolis, Kenette K. (Tom) Faulkner of San Ramon, Calif.; Jolene M. Sobania of Foley; five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law, Lloyd Bergum and Larry Sobania; grandson Eric Bahnemann; great -granddaughter Amelia Inselman; sister Audrey McLaughlin and brother Marvin.
Funeral services were December 29 at St. John1s Episcopal Church in St. Cloud, with Rev. Richard Bormes officiating. Burial was in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 428, Waite Park.

Lois Payonk
1934 - 2004; Crosslake
Lois J. Payonk, 70, died on December 27, 2004, at her home.
Lois Jean Tilbury was born on February 2, 1934, in Madison County, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Laabs) Tilbury. She was raised and educated in Canby. She was united in marriage to Gerald J. Payonk on May 15, 1954, in Canby. After their marriage, they lived in Minneapolis until 1960, Sauk Rapids until 1973, when finally moving to Crosslake in 1973 and they continued to live there until they time of their death. Over the years, Lois had worked for Honeywell, Herberger's, Xcel Optical, Viking Coca-Cola and Potlatch. Lois enjoyed the outdoors and especially all her grandkids. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes, Jenkins V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Pequot Lakes American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by daughter Catherine (Mike) Isaacs; sons Craig and Curt (Dena), all of Crosslake/Ideal Corners area; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Shirley Peters, Belview; brothers Lowell (Jan) Tilbury, Fairmont; and Eugene (Phyllis) Tilbury, Cromwell, Ind.; step-father Clarence Marczek and many nieces, nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Robert.
Funeral services were January 4 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes, with Rev. Dr. David N. Stevens officiating. Burial will be at Tabor Lutheran Cemetery, Stansburg, South Dakota.
Arrangements are with Willim-St.Onge Family Funeral Home in Pequot Lakes.

Astrid King
1913 - 2004; Pequot Lakes
Astrid Beata King, 91, died Dec. 28, 2004, at Woodland Good Samaritan Care Center.
Astrid was born Dec. 15, 1913, to Sophus Frederickson and Maren Christine (Hansen) Frederickson in Kensal, N.D. She was a loving mother, homemaker and worked for a number of years at Akre's Bakery and Gift Shop in Nisswa. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes.
She is survived by sons Marvin (Lois) Neva of Pequot Lakes, Melvin (Glenda) Neva of Ariz., Gerald (Luipe) Neva of Goodyear, Ariz.; and daughters Marlys Neva of Gresham, Ore., Joanne (Gary) Welliver of Kingman, Ariz.; sisters Clara Lee of Carrington, N.D., Lorraine Schroeder of Carrington, N.D., and June Knudson of Jamestown, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Neva; second husband, Ellsworth King; three grandsons; brothers Otto, Theodore and Leroy Frederickson; sisters Ellen, Amelia and Gladys; half brothers and sisters, Clifford, Clarence, Jennie and Lillian.
Interment was in Williamette National VA Cemetery in Gresham, Ore. Private memorial service will be at a later date.

Edna Oberfell
1923 - 2004; Pine River
Edna Oberfell, 81, Pine River, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center in Pine River.
Edna was born May 23, 1923, in Backus to Claude and Rose (Arbogast) Barnheart. She taught Sunday school at the Mildred Bible Chapel for many years.
She is survived by daughter Julie (Steve) Dabill of Baxter; son Butch (Sue) Oberfell of Sebeka; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Muriel Gibbs of Brainerd, and Vivian (Orville) Emery of Wyoming; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; brother Harold; and sisters Grace and Lucille.
Services were Dec. 31 at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River with Pastor Mark Erickson officiating. Burial was in the Mildred Cemetery.

Lloyd McAninch
1922 - 2004; Circle Pines
Lloyd L. McAninch, 82, Circle Pines, died December 29, 2004.
He is survived by his wife Darison; children Cartar, Cathi McBryde, Cary (Linda) Cotlin, Christopher, Oamja (Jason) Bloomer; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters Lois (Chuck) Duncek, Dorothy McCarthy, Helen (Dick) Dwire.
Funeral service was January 4 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Circle Pines. Interment was in Morningside Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Cecil Solheim
1920 - 2004 1; Pine River
Cecil Solheim, 84, formerly of Pequot Lakes, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center in Pine River.
He was born April 17, 1920, in Little Falls to Claus and Anna Solheim. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
Cecil was a generous soul who was willing to help anyone. He was a perfectionist carpenter who worked on many homes, businesses and lake cabins in the Ideal Corners area where he grew up. He enjoyed a humorous and entertaining conversation (lengthy) on almost any topic. He held numerous impromptu backyard parties.
Services were Dec. 30 at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Home Chapel in Pine River. Burial was in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley.
Arrangements with Kline Funeral Home of Pine River.

Dorothy Olinger
1935 - 2005; Brainerd
Dorothy B. Olinger, 69, Brainerd, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
Dorothy Miller was born June 19, 1935, in Mankato, to Walter and Mary (Ryan) Miller. She grew up and attended school in Mankato. She was united in marriage to Richard Olinger on Sept. 25, 1954, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Mankato. After living for a short time in Lake Elmo and in St. Cloud, the couple moved to Brainerd in 1961. Dorothy worked for the Brainerd School District since 1979, as a teacher's aide and bus driver. She retired for a short time, but missed her work so much that she returned to work. Affectionately known to both her grandchildren and the students she worked with as "Grandma Dodo," she particularly loved special needs children. Barely five feet tall, Dorothy often served as a live "measuring stick" for children who were anxious to demonstrate their own growth. She was a loyal Twins fan, and faithfully attended her grandchildren's sports events. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd.
Dorothy is survived by children Mark (Melanie) Olinger of Lansford, N.D., John (Jane) Olinger of Brainerd and Susan (Tim) Sipper of Lake Shore; sisters Cookie (Butch) Reasor, Judy Smith and Toni (Gary) Magnett; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 5 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Bill Skarich officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd. Memorials are preferred to a charity benefiting children (donor's preference).
