Gladys Sosa
1911 - 2005; former Breezy Point resident
Gladys H. Sosa, 93, Lindstrom and formerly of Breezy Point died January 2, 2005.
She is survived by husband Robert; son Roger (Marlene) Lenz; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Memorial Serivce will be Friday, Jan. 7 at Chisago Lakes Lutheran Church in Center City. Private interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Royce St. Peter
19218- 2004 1; Scranton, Iowa
Royce Willard St. Peter, 86, Scranton, Iowa, died December 27, 2004 at his home following a long illness.
Royce was born February 25, 1918 in Grand Junction, Iowa to Willard and Ferne (Royce) St. Peter. He graduated from Grand Junction High School. He joined the National Guard in 1936, which was activated after Pearl Harbor. Following his military career he became a barber in Boone, Iowa. He married Mary Ann Bittner in 1950.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann of rural Scranton; sons Rick (Sheila) of Scranton, Gail of Scranton, Keith (Ethyl) of Changsha, Hunan Province of China; daughters Denise Moreland of Scranton, Lisa (Rev. Tim) Walker of Pine River, Roxanna (Gary) Lindsey of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother Deane (Joy) of Audubon, Iowa; sister Charlotte Verdini of Studio City, Calif.; sister-in-law Doris St. Peter of Guthrie Center, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Lowell and Gerald and sister Lois.
The funeral was at the Church of Christ in Scranton, with Pastor Bob McKnight officiating. Interment with full military honors by the American Legion Council of Boone, Iowa was conducted at the Scranton Township Cemetery.

Helen Wilson
1909 - 2005 Crosslake
Helen L. Wilson, age 95, of Crosslake, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center. Memorial services were March 1 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake with the Rev. Judy Clark-Bolling officiating.
Helen Lucile White was born July 18, 1909, at Fort Pierre, S.D., to Frank and Maude (Driggers) White. Her family moved to Madelia, Minn., when Helen was young. She was a graduate of Madelia High School. She worked in insurance in Madelia and in St. Louis Park. She was united in marriage to LeRoy A. Wilson in 1960. They moved to his home on Lake Mitchell and then to Crosslake in 1971. Helen and Roy belonged to the United Methodist Church in Emily. They operated the Highway 3 Shop in Crosslake for many years.
Helen is survived by several nieces and nephews including Marilyn (Gary) McAtee, of Crosslake. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers; and three sisters.

John Newton
1913 - 2005 Nisswa
John Paul Newton, 91, Nisswa, died Tusday, Feb. 22, 2005 at his home.
He was born April 6, 1913 to Ardie and Harley Newton in Gage, Montana.
John worked in the woods in Washington. He grew up on his father and grandfather's ranch, rode in rodes, broke horses and did bull riding. In his younger life he was a trail guide in Yellowstone Park; he then worked as a welder in ship yards in California during WWII and did odd jobs in Texas. He later worked as a welder in Illinois Steel and Wire Company in Rockford. He retired from there and moved to Nisswa with his wife Alice.
He and his first wife Phyllis Bogart were married in Washington in 1936 and divorced after 12 years together. He married Alice Eaglin of Clinton, Iowa on March 28, 1975. She died on April 20, 1999. John married Anna Frame on June 17, 2001 in Nisswa.
Survivors include his wife Anna; sons John W., Mickel and Franklin; stepchildren Joyce Smith of Pine River, Ruth Smith of Ames, Iowa, Donald Frame of Gilbert, Iowa, Harold Frame of Ames, Iowa; nephew Dean (Nita) Newton; niece Illa May Maran of Reed Port, Oregon; nephew Larry (Erma) Coy of Sterling, Illinois.
His parents, wife Alice, brother Hix, one sister and an infant daughter preceded him in death.
Services were February 25 at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd, with Pastor Guy Doud officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa.

Mabel Schultz

1925 - 2005 Lake Shore

Mabel Florence Larson Schultz, age 80, died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at her home in Lake Shore.
She was born in Lake Edward Township to Lars and Elizabeth Larson. She married William Schultz on July 15, 1944. She was a member of the Nisswa Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include daughters Deloris (Roland) Monasmith of Baxter, Maxine Schultz of Lake Shore, Grace (Mike) Harrington of Tylor, Texas; sons Chris (Ardell) of Pequot Lakes, Jack (Alice) of Nisswa, Pete (Jolene) of Pine River; sisters Pearl Burnard of Nisswa, Annie Elwell of Brainerd; 20 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers; two sisters; two step-sons and one grandchild.

Services will be 1 p.m. on April 7 at Pleasant Hill Church in Pequot Lakes with Pastor Leo Belanger officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Lucille M. Thiers

1923 - 2005 Lake Shore

Lucille M. Thiers died March 28, 2005 in Bradenton, Florida.
Born in Blind Lake, Mrs. Thiers moved to Bradenton in 1960 from Pine River. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Bradenton and a retired bookkeeper.

She is survived by sons Donald of Reese, MI, Charles of Parrish, Florida, and Robert of Bradenton; daughter Patricia Weiss-Meyer of Isanti, MI; sister Ethel Falck of Minnesota; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services were April 1, officiated by Rev. J. Sterling Forrester. Burial followed at Fogartyville Cemetery in Bradenton.

Dennis Eastwood

1947 - 2005 Garrison

Dennis Michael Eastwood, 57, Garrison, died April 2, 2005 at his home.
He was born June 21, 1947 in Riverside, Calif. to Robert and Betty (Wonderlich) Eastwood. He was a former employee of Burlington Northern Railroad and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War.

He is survived by sons Dennis "Pete" Eastwood, Jr., Garrison and Lucas Eastwood, Pequot Lakes; daughters Sarah (Michael) King of Elysian and Kari (Jason) Crimmins, Pine River; sister Jeanne (Stephen) Begovac, Phoenix, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Koop Funeral Home in Crosby with full military rites provided by the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443 of Ironton. Burial will be at the Garrison Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Donald W. Johnson

1918 - 2005 Pine River

Donald Wallace Johnson, 86, Pine River passed away March 29, 2005.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1918 in Terrace.

Don, a WWII veteran, moved to Morris after being discharged from the service and worked for Standard Oil Co. He moved to St. Louis Park in 1955 and was a plumber for 30 years in Minneapolis, with his last project in the Twin Cities being the mechanical foreman for the construction of the Health-Science building at the University of Minnesota. In 1974, Don and Nell moved to Whitefish Lake in Pine River where they built their dream house. Two years later, Don and son, Steven, started their own plumbing and heating business-Plumbing, Etc. in Pine River. Don and Nell later retired in Tucson, Ariz. and enjoyed many years together with friends before Nell passed away. He then relocated back to Pine River, and lived at the Riverside Villa Senior Apts.

He is survived by children David (Milly) of Hopkins, Steven of Nisswa, and Michael (Karen) of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren Jesse Kisskeys, Grant and Taylor Johnson; brothers, Les (Evelyn) of Glenwood, Howard (Eileen) of Tucson, Ariz., and sister-in-law Ella of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Nell; brothers Walter and Norris; sisters Gertrude and Linda.

A memorial service will be held on April 8th at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Pine River with Pastor John Twiton officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. A second memorial service will be held later in Tucson, Ariz. so his remains may be with Nell.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift given to the Good Samaritan Society in Pine River for their needed service to the community, is preferred.

Robert L. Wiebke

1924 - 2005 Crosslake

Robert L. Wiebke, age 81, www.Crosslake, died April 4, 2005 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.
Funeral services will be April 8 at Crosslake Lutheran Church.

Iva Lou Canton

1933 - 2005 Randall

Iva Lou Canton, 71, Randall, died March 31, 2005 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls. Funeral services were Monday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Randall. Interment was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls.
Iva Lou Canton was born on June 26, 1933, in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of Ernest and Helen (Neeley) Canterberry. She attained the age of 71 years, 9 months, and 5 days.

Iva Lou grew up and attended school in West Virginia. After finishing high school she attended beautician school and worked as a hairdresser in her younger years. In November of 1953 she enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving two tours of enlistment. On May 18, 1955, she was united in marriage to Richard Canton in Beaufort County, South Carolina, while they were both in the service. To this union two daughters, Janet and Montine, were born. After their marriage Iva Lou stayed at home to be a devoted wife and mother. The family lived out East until moving to Cushing over 20 years ago.

Iva Lou was a member of the Randall VFW Auxiliary and also and enthusiastic member of a Clown Club when she was younger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and a daughter, Montine Christenson.

Iva Lou is mourned in passing by her daughter, Janet Canton of Milaca; four grandchildren, Michelle Canton, Kristal Canton, Richard Canton, and Serena Osborn; and two great-grandsons.

Karen M. Kradle

1963 - 2005 former Fifty Lakes resident

Karen Marie Kradle (Wrobleski) age 42, formerly of Fifty Lakes and a 1980 graduate of Pine River High School, died suddenly Friday April 1, 2005 at her home in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin.
She is survived by husband Kirt; sons Lucas, 18, and Ray, 7; mother Kathleen Wrobleski of Pine River; brothers John, Jim and Mark Wrobleski; sister Susan Eibes; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be April 7, at 4 p.m. at Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Clifford John Sahlen

1915 - 2005 Rogers

Clifford John Sahlen, died April 2, 2005 at the age of 90.
He was born February 26, 1915.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Caroline "Zene;" daughter Jody Durene (John Dill) of Zimmerman; sons Michael of Minneapolis, John of Ramsey; grandchildren John "Buddy" Sahlen, Andrea Sahlen, Joseph Lamon, Shae Durene, Anita McCormick, Jeff and Brian Countryman; five great-grandchildren; cousin Bertil Anderson of Crosslake.

He was preceded in death by daughter Karol Countryman.

A memorial service was held April 5 at Word of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers.

Glen Tufts

1923-2005 - Hackensack

Glen Tufts, age 81, of Hackensack, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2005 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. Born December 23, 1923 in Rock Creek Township, Kansas to John and Clara (Button) Tufts.
Glen was a member of Union Congregational Church in Hackensack where he was active in the choir and men's fellowship. He retired as a Master Sgt. from the U.S. Air Force in 1970. Glen was an active member of the American Legion Post 202 in Hackensack, where he was past commander and held numerous other offices. In addition to the American Legion he was a member of the Walker VFW. He was a very generous man who always had a smile for everyone. Glen was an active volunteer in the Hackensack community. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by two daughters: Michelle Tufts-Dickhaus of Golden Valley, Lisa Tufts Frederick of Detroit Lakes; son, Gregory Tufts of Hackensack; four grandchildren Ashley Tabaka, Justin Tabaka, Spencer Dickhaus and Jess Dickhaus.

Also surviving are his three sisters: Helen Tufts and Ruby Tufts both of Long Beach, CA and May Wilson of Emporia, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, in 2001.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 14 at Union Congregational Church in Hackensack with Pastor Michael Small officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Hackensack with Military Honors by American Legion Post 202 in Hackensack.

Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home Pine River.

Michael Robert Newton

1963-2005 - Jenkins

Michael Robert Newton, age 41, resident of Jenkins, died Monday, September 5, 2005 at his home. Michael was born on September 10, 1963 in Brainerd to Robert and Barbara (Lagerstrand) Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; daughter, Katrine; sisters, Lori and Brenda; and mother, Barb.

His father died earlier.

Memorial services were held September 9, 2005 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes with Pastor Frank Milo officiating.

Arrangements were with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd.
