Albert "Buzz" Pull
July 19, 1920 - May 26, 2000

Place of Funeral: -- Crosslake Lutheran Church, Crosslake, MN -- Friday, June 2, 2000 1:00 PM

Albert J. “Buzz” Pull, age 79, of Crosslake, died on Friday, May 26, 2000, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at the Crosslake Lutheran Church, on Friday, June 2, at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Crosslake-Fifty Lakes American Legion, Post 500. Arrangements are by the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
Albert “Buzz” Pull was born on July 19, 1920, in Fargo, ND, to Albert N. and Beatrice (Gronningen) Pull. He grew up and attended school in Fargo, graduating from North Dakota State University with a degree in English. He then moved to CA, where he met and married his first wife. He enlisted and served in the Army during WW2. Upon his honorable discharge he lived and worked in several midwestern states, eventually settling in Minneapolis. There, he worked as a Retail Accountant and a Sales Supervisor for Midland Cooperative (Land O’ Lakes). He moved to Crosslake in 1978, following his retirement. He married Pauline Radosevich of Crosslake on August 2, 1996. He was a member of the Crosslake Lutheran Church, and a lifetime member of the Crosslake-Fifty Lakes American Legion, Post 500. He enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting, and fishing.

Albert “Buzz” Pull is survived by his wife, Pauline, of Crosslake; a son, Nicholas (Rebecca) Pull, of Bloomington, IL; a granddaughter, Elizabeth (Jason) Heitz, of Bloomington, IL; a great-granddaughter, Amber Heitz, of Bloomington, IL; his mother, Beatrice Pull, Brainerd, MN; one sister, Sybil (Norman) Vowles, Maple Valley, WA; extended family members Thomas Rod, Eagen, MN, and Paula Alban, San Diego, CA; and his beloved dog, Jack. He was preceded in death by his father, his first wife Jean.

Sheryl Ann Gandsey

Nevis

Feb. 17, 1944-Feb. 24, 2008
Sheryl Ann Gandsey, age 64, of Nevis, Minn., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at Meritcare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Sheryl is survived by her husband of 44 years, Tom Gandsey of Nevis; her two sons, Mike (Heidi) Gandsey of Benson, Minn., Joe (Rachel) of Otsego, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Mitchell, Chelsie, Makenna, Anthony, Tayler and Vince; along with other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services were Saturday, March 1, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids with Father Dennis Wieland officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church.

Helen Avis

Backus

Helen Avis, age 52, of Backus, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Hennepin County Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 14, 1955, in Park Rapids to James and Betty Cripps.

She is survived by her children, Jenny Cripps of Wahpeton, N.D., Loretta Avis of Backus, Danny Avis of Long Prairie; mother, Betty Cripps of Backus; sister, Ethel Avis of Backus; brothers, Harvey Cripps of Detroit Lakes, William Cripps of Vergas; grandchildren, Mary Cripps, Rowdy Borman, Daniel Francis Jr., Kayla Francis and Amadeus Avis.

She was preceded in death by her father, James.

Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Lakeside Baptist Church in Backus, with Pastor Jeff Broom officiating. Visitation was Friday, Feb. 29, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service Saturday. Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.

Josephine Dashorst

Formerly of Nisswa

Josephine Dashorst, age 86, formerly of Nisswa, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center, Pine River.
She was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Amsterdam, Holland, to Dirk and Johanna Joffer. In 1950, Josephine and her husband, Gerald, came to the United States from Holland. They owned and operated the Bee Hive in Nisswa during the 1960s. Later they built and operated Dashorst's Department Store in Pequot Lakes until retiring.

She is survived by her daughters, Josephine Marcum (Joe) of Pine River, Jenny Martin (Bernie) of North Dakota; grandchildren, Jason Marcum, Andrea Marcum, Michele Johnson; great-grandchildren, Misato Marcum and Kyosuke Marcum.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and six sisters.

A graveside service was Friday, Feb. 29, at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa, with Pastor Wayne Peterson officiating.

Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.

Beverly (Hesch) LaCoursiere

Formerly of Pequot Lakes

Beverly LaCoursiere (nee Hesch) was called home to God on Feb. 13, 2008, at age 66. She will be deeply missed by her mother, Eileen Paulson (Sauk Rapids); one sister, Carol Hesch (Crosby); three children, John Knutson (Duluth), Ken Knutson (Minneapolis), Sherrie (Knutson) Messerschmidt (Loveland, Ohio); eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Born May 21, 1941, Beverly was a former resident of the lakes area and a 1958 graduate of Pequot Lakes.

A memorial picnic is planned for late August in the lakes area. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.bensonfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jane Larson

Jackson County

Jane Larson was born on Aug. 17, 1921, in Christiania Township, Jackson County, Minn. to the late Ole and Thea (Engan) Holmen. She received her education in the country school in the Jackson County area. After completing her education, she was to attend Lutheran Bible Institute. Due to her sister Marget's death, she stayed home to give loving care to Marget and Van's four children, Maynard, Dora Mae, Ruby Kay, and Merle (seven months at the time of his mother's death).
On July 28, 1953, Jane was united in marriage to Jacob Van Stevens at American Lutheran Church in Windom. They farmed near Wilder and later retired at Backus, Minn.

On May 21, 1988, Jane was united in marriage to Alf Larson at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Blue Earth County. They lived on Alf's farm site in Delafield Township near Wilder. Alf passed away on March 7, 2000 after almost 12 wonderful years of marriage. After his death, Jane moved into the Riverview Apartments in Windom and then to the Heritage House in Windom in March of 2005. Recently, Jane's cancer had returned and she became a resident of the Sogge Good Samaritan Society-Windom where she passed away on Tuesday afternoon, March 18, 2008, at the age of 86.

Jane was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom and a former member of the Delafield Lutheran Church in rural Jackson County. Jane will be remembered most of all for being an unconditional caregiver who was cheerful, bubbly, never complained and always had a smile on her face. Her enjoyments in life include sewing, singing, gardening, cooking, baking, crafts, and puzzles.

Jane's dedicated family who mourns her loss includes many children, Maynard and Judy Stevens of Luck, Wis.; Dora Mae and Bob Burdick of Fridley; Ruby Kay and Dean Pfeil of Sioux Center, Ia.; Merle Stevens of St. Paul; Willis and Luetta Larson of Windom; daughter-in-law, Barb (Max) Larson; Joanne and Roland Roesner of Windom; Shirley and Bruce Ewing of Lone Rock, Wis.; Peggy and Arlin Mattison of Jackson; Pastor Don and Ginny Larson of Gilgeilroy, Cal.; 37 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; three great-great-great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Jacob Van Stevens and Alf Larson; two sisters, Marget Stevens and Manda Ingbritson.

Funeral services were March 22, 2008 at the American Lutheran Church in Windom with burial at Hauges Cemetery in Jackson County, Minn.

Delphia Elling

Pequot Lakes

Delphia Elling, age 90, of Pequot Lakes, passed away early Tuesday morning at the Pine River Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Care Center. Funeral service was March 21, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Pequot Lakes, with Rev. Mike Marcum officiating.
Delphia A. Elling was born on Jan. 6, 1918, in Ashland, Wis. to David and Louise (Stickel) Miller. She moved to The Cities at a very young age. She met Harold Elling and they were married in 1946. In 1969 they moved to Pequot Lakes, where she owned and operated the Elling Floral Shop in Pequot Lakes and Pine River. She also operated a resort, laundromat and the Pequot Lakes Motel. After her retirement she enjoyed knitting, working with flowers, and fishing. She was a member of the Pequot Lakes Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Barbara and Francis Hite of Cottage Grove, Oregon, Terry and Jim Kientop of Backus, David and Diane of Lakeview, Arkansas, Harold and Carrie of Pequot Lakes; one sister, Maxine and Elmer Eckardt of Pequot Lakes; special friend, Ernie Kouba, of Pequot Lakes; four grandchildren and several great-grandchldren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and her daughter, Sandy.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Pequot Lakes.

George Knutson

Nisswa

George Knutson, age 95, of Pequot Lakes, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008, at his home. He was born April 15, 1912, in Pequot Lakes to Christian and Anna Knutson. He married Rosellyn Risnes on April 15, 1939.
He is survived by his wife, Rosellyn; children: Larry Knutson (Maxine) of Ideal Corners, Lonnie Knutson of Brainerd; sister, Ester Nemes of Minneapolis; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Dorothy Evans, Agnes Wagner, Elsie Pihlstrom, Iver Knutson, Harley Knutson, Leo Knutson, and Vesta Hasbrouck.

Memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Lutheran Social Services.

Services were March 25 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes, with Rev. Dr. David Stevens officiating.

Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.

Walter Norman

Pine River

Walter Norman, age 86, of Pine River, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008, at his home. He was born December 13, 1921 in Pine River to Elis and Anna Norman.
Walter drove bus for Pine River Schools for over 20 years, was employed by the Pine River Journal for many years, and farmed and logged most all of his life. He was also an EMT for Brainerd International Raceway events, and was a Minnesota State Predator Control trapper. He was a member of Mildred Bible Chapel and a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horses, and was a jack of all trades.

He is survived by his children: Kenneth Norman of Glendale, AZ, Dolores LeMieux of Pine River, Beverly Peterson of Pine River, Peggy Berndt (Terry) of Savage, Melvin Norman of Pine River, Randy Norman (Peggy) of Pine River, JoAnne Sirois of Pine River; sister, Hazel McClimek of Remer; 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloria; brother, Carl; sister, Esther Crandall, and grandson, Scott LeMieux.

Services were March 24 at Mildred Bible Chapel, with Pastor Dennis Gellerman officiating. Burial followed at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River.

Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.

Carol Diederich

Pine River and formerly Mayhew Lake

Mass of Christian Burial was March 24, 2008 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Mayhew Lake for Carol A. Diederich, age 62, of Pine River and formerly of Mayhew Lake, who died Tuesday, March 18, 2008. Rev. Timothy Wenzel officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Dingmann Family Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Carol was born June 28, 1945 in St. Cloud to Henry and Lorraine (Pierskalla) Smoley. She married Jerome Diederich on Dec. 16, 1967 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Mayhew Lake. Carol was a homemaker and also worked at Frigidaire and Fingerhut.

Survivors include her husband, Jerome of Pine River; daughters and sons, Michelle (Neil) Fjelstad of Litchfield, Edward (Gina) Diederich of Rice, Alisa Nelson of Litchfield, and Loren (Miranda) Diederich of Mounds View; father, Henry Smoley of Rice; sister and brother, Irma Rothstein of Orlando, Fla. and Duane Smoley of Rice; 20 grandchildren; son-in-law, John Nelson of Darwin; and daughter-in-law, Sherri Diederich of Sauk Rapids.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother.

Rose Chadwick

Pine River

Rose Chadwick, age 72, of Pine River, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 20, 2008. She was born Aug. 17, 1935 in Lakefield, to Michael and Clara Tulenchik. Her smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by son, Duane Chadwick of Vallejo, Cal.; daughter, Doreen Chadwick of Brainerd; sister, Ruth Brogle of Pine River; grandchildren: Jessica Pollock, Nicholas Markley, Ian Chadwick, Bryce Chadwick; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Rob Tulenchik, Ray Tulenchik, Rich Tulenchik, Rod Tulenchik, Russ Tulenchik, and Pete Tulenchik.

Services were March 24 at Maple Hill Lutheran Church, rural Pine River. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.

Frederick W. Smith

Pine River

Frederick W. Smith, age 82, of Pine River, passed away on April 6, 2008, at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center, Pine River. Fred was born in Minneapolis on July 28, 1925.
He is survived by four children, 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and loving companion, Annette Hagie of Pine River.

No services will be held.

Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
