Robert Munson

Ansel Township

Robert Ernest Monson, age 71, resident of Ansel Township, died April 6, 2008 at his home. He was born on Nov. 7, 1936 in Eagle Bend. He lived in foster homes until he was 13. From age 13 to age 18 he lived at the Owatonna State Boys Home. Then, 49 years ago (1959), he came to live with Morris and Stella Kuschel and has been a part of the Rocking K Ranch family until the time of his passing.
Bob loved taking care of his "orphan" calves and kittens, and he helped Miles and Beth get many 4-H animals ready for the Cass County Fair. He really enjoyed fishing, and his trips to Canada with Roy were some of his fondest memories. Bob was also an avid collector of Breyer horses and bulls.

Bob will be greatly missed by Morris and Stella Kuschel, Pat and Tom Wallace and family, Londale and Betsy Kuschel and family, Doug and Paula Kuschel and family, Tom and Linda Kuschel and family, plus many friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19 at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, with Pastor Bill Ingvoldstad officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date.

Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.

William D. Evans

Pine River

William Douglas "Bill" Evans of Shelton died of cancer on Tuesday, April 1. He was 83.
He was born in Pine River, on Dec. 28, 1924 to Everett and Naomi (Olsen) Evans.

Growing up in Pine River, Bill left school to join the service in WWII. He spent his lifetime attending classes in community and state colleges and world-wide travel. He served in the Marine Corps in World War II from 1942 to 1946.

He was a builder, real estate developer, musician, painter, published author, fisherman and gentleman.

His family said he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He married Betty Louise Ross on July 20, 1944 in Reno, Nevada. They made their home from 1946 until 1968 in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., where he was a builder and, with Mrs. Evans, operated a successful real estate business. They moved to Gardnerville, Nev., and operated an antiques store and continued their real estate and building business from 1968 to 1989, retiring to Hoodsport in 1989. In August 2006, they moved to Shelton.

Mr. Evans was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion, Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Marine Corps League.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Betty Evans of Shelton; sister Gloria Holman; daughter Patty Montague of Shelton; son Steve Evans of Rodeo, Calif.; grandchildren Tobie, Steve Evans Jr., Chris and Hillary and great-grandchildren Kevin and Kyle.

His sons Charles Kim Evans and William Kit Evans preceded him in death.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 5, at the Hood Canal Community Church, 80 North Finch Creek Road, Hoodsport.

Burial will take place in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

Gayle Stanwood

Pequot Lakes

Gayle Stanwood, age 91, of Pequot Lakes died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Funeral services for Gayle will be Thursday, May 1, at 12 p.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes, with Reverend Frank Milo officiating. Friends may visit on Wednesday, April 30, from 5-8 p.m. at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Gayle Evangeline Palmer was born April 7, 1917 in Brainerd, to Ernest A. and Gladys (Strong) Palmer. She was united in marriage to Myron D. Stanwood in Brainerd on August 24, 1935. She worked with Dorothy Morley at Mr. Eddie's Beauty Shop in Brainerd for a time. She moved to the Minneapolis area, where she worked as a buyer for Power's clothing store; for Stephen's Suburban Shop, selling women's clothing in Crystal; and for O'Brien's as a clothing buyer in downtown Minneapolis. Upon retiring and returning to the lakes area she conducted trunk showings of women's clothing and co-owned Four Generation Fashions in Nisswa and Brainerd. She also helped her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kathee Stanwood, with running their Country Cheese House in Pequot Lakes and, later, their Uptown Deli and Cheese House in Brainerd. She belonged to the Zonta Club in Brainerd. She loved cooking and entertaining and combined family vacations with her love of rock collecting. The fireplace in her log home is rocked with stones the family collected from all across the country on their travels.

Gayle is survived by her son, Mike (Kathee) Stanwood, of Brainerd, and their children, Andy, Kristi, and Becky Stanwood of Brainerd; her daughter, Kathlean (Dick) Cameron, of Pequot Lakes, and their children, Richard, Jr. (Lori) Cameron, of Brainerd, Terri (Jim) Spielman, of Pequot Lakes, and David (Sue) Cameron, of Pequot Lakes; great-grandchildren, Joshua (Chelle) Cameron, of Breezy Point (presently stationed in Iraq), Jacob (Trista) Cameron, of Pequot Lakes, Jessica (RJ) Rudd, of Excelsior, Ryan Cameron, of Fargo, Jenny and Alisha Spielman, of Pequot Lakes, and Amanda Spielman, of Hutchinson; several great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Phyllis Poland, of Indiana and Dorothy Stanwood, of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Myron in 1977; her second husband, Les Johnson in 1995; and her siblings, Murrell, Mardell, and Maurice.

Barbara Olson

Fifty Lakes

Barbara Jean Olson, age 74, of Fifty Lakes, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 7, 2008, at her home, and has been reunited with her beloved husband, Larry, in heaven. She was born December 3, 1933, in Minneapolis to Gus and Leone Eide.
She is survived by her children: Larry B. Olson, Lori A. Olson, Kent D. Olson; brother, Ron Eide (Marge); sister, Sharon Sandin (Denny); eight grandchildren, two great- grandchildren; extended family and many loving friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, at Faith Lutheran Church, Swanburg, with Pastor Marlys Korman officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Swanburg Cemetery.

Obed Arnold Odegard

Pine River

Obed Arnold Odegard, age 86, of Pine River, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Cayuga, ND, to Ole and Aase Odegard.
Obed was a resident of Pine River for 63 years and was past owner and operator of Pine River Lumber. He logged in the area for 30 years and built over 30 homes in the Pine River and Backus areas, including the DAC in Pine River. He enjoyed hunting, making many trips to Montana and Alberta.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn; son, Dennis Odegard of Pequot Lakes; daughters: Cheryl Israelson of Pine River, Janice Fuhrer (Joe) of Pine River, Joanne Chapman (Mike) of Backus, Gloria Cole of Sedona, AZ, Wendy Flategraff (Joe) of Pine River; sisters: Hilda Kuehn of Milnor, ND, Petra Johnson of Robbinsdale; 22 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Bristow; brothers: John Odegard, Gustave Odegard; sisters: Anna Johnson, Agnes Rasmussen and Paula Brant.

Services were March 9, at First Lutheran Church, Pine River, with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating.

Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.

Janis Gail Jerentosky

Fifty Lakes

Janis Gail Jerentosky, 68, of Fifty Lakes died at her home, surrounded by family and friends, on February 20, 2008.
Memorial Services will be Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 10 a.m., at Crosslake Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating.

Following the service and interment at Emily Cemetery, friends are invited to the Jerentosky home, 42370 County Road 136, Fifty Lakes, MN 56448. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Camp Knutson.

Harold W. Thorvig

Longville

Harold W. Thorvig, age 95, of Longville, passed away March 5, 2008. Harold and his wife, Rose, retired to their lake home on Island Lake near Longville, in 1978, where they enjoyed the solitude, fishing, family and friends. Harold will be missed by everyone he has left behind.
He is survived by sister, Evelyn Conlin; son, Peter (Lynette), granddaughters: Kristen, Laura, Jennifer; daughter, Susan Pace (John); grandson, Eric Vacha; and special four-legged companion, Holly (his fourth granddaughter).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hannah Thorvig, and wife, Rose.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 15 at Salem Lutheran Church, Longville.

Walter E. Johnson

Brainerd

Walter E. Johnson, 98, Brainerd, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. He was born Feb. 9, 1910, in Brainerd to Arthur and Jessie (Adair) Johnson. He lived on Green Gables Road for over 75 years and had operated an excavating business and was involved with land development. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Brainerd.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis, Brainerd; sons: Eugene (Rose), Hackensack, and Jim (Linda), Hackensack; daughter Mary (Dean) Andersen, Brainerd; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous stepchildren and step-grandchildren; brothers: Ernest, Brainerd; Martin, Duluth; Allen, California; and a sister, Mildred Winterowd, Deerwood.

He was preceded in death by his first two wives, Margaret (Berg) Johnson and Ruby (Waller) Johnson; son, Leo; sister, Alice Skillings; brothers, Eddie and Albert; and one granddaughter, Linda Jo Tasche.

Services were March 7, 2008 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Brainerd with Pastor Robert Brauer, Pastor John Morrison and Pastor Eugene Johnson officiating with burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Brainerd.

Arrangements were with Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Brainerd.

Anna (Ann) B. Johnson

Pine River

Anna (Ann) B. Johnson, 96, died May 4, 2008. She was formerly living at the Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center in Pine River. She was born Oct. 29, 1911 in Bavier, MO.
She was the eldest child of German immigrants, Carl and Martha (Ludwig) Herrmann. The family moved to Minneapolis where Ann graduated from Emmerson High School and attended the University of Minnesota while working for General Mills.

In 1938, she married Russell E. Johnson and moved to Montana. They subsequently lived in Idaho, Minnesota, and Arizona. Following the death of her husband in 1992, Ann returned to Minnesota. She enjoyed travel, golf, sewing, reading, and watching birds.

Survivors include daughters, Arlene (Mike) Naylon, Robin (Chuck) Meyer, and Valerie King; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Russell Herrmann; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was conducted by Pastor Arthur Frenz, Jr. at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baxter Wednesday, May 7, 2008. A graveside service was held at Woodland Hills Cemetery in Mankato Thursday, May 8, 2008.

Pequot Lakes

Daniel Chisholm, age 55, of Pequot Lakes, passed away Monday, July 21, 2008. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Pequot Lakes. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.

Thomas Roscoe Carlyon

Sylvan Lake Township

Thomas R. Carlyon, age 81, of Sylvan Lake Township, passed away quietly Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the cabin he loved. Tom was born Nov. 20, 1926 in Minneapolis, the son of Roscoe and Frieda Carlyon.
He is survived by his wife Marian Carlyon; sons, Paul Carlyon (Giustina) of Eagan; Ross Carlyon (Teresa) of Plymouth; Scott Carlyon (Shanta) of St. Paul; daughters, Claire (Jerry) Heinonen of Minneapolis; Sandy (Matt) Roubal of Jenkins; 21 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Lois, Margaret, and Jeanne; and his daughter Leta Hohn.

He will be missed by many, with a memorial celebration of his life to be held in Minneapolis.
