Agnes E. Pearson, age 96, died on Monday, May 29, 2000, at the Bethany Good Samaritan Center in Brainerd, MN. Private graveside services will be held in Minneapolis on Tuesday, June 6, with Pastor Wayne Tellekson of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St. Paul officiating. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Agnes Pearson was born on September 8, 1903 in North Branch, MN, to Amanda (Carlson) and Charles E. Johnson. She grew up and attended school in the North Branch area. At the age of sixteen she moved to St. Paul, where she worked as a maid and a cook. She was married to Elmer S. Pearson on September 2, 1925, in St. Paul, MN. In addition to caring for her family she worked as a domestic helper in the metro area. She moved to the Bethany Good Samaritan Center in 1990, when her daughter moved to Crosslake. She was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St. Paul for fifty years, and had been a member of the Carpenter’s Union and the VFW Club.

Agnes Pearson is survived by her daughter, Vivian Coates, Crosslake; two sisters, Melba Jenson, Grand Rapids, MN, and Ruth Sutter, Frederick, WI; two brothers, Arthur Johnson, Deer River, MN, and Albert Johnson, Lindstrom, MN; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and four brothers.

Robert Allen Haukland

Robert A. Haukland, age 63, of Crosslake died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Services will be Monday, June 12, 2000 at 2:00 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake with Reverend Roger Grussing officiating. Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake. Visitation 1 hr before the services. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake.
Robert Allen Haukland was born on January 2, 1937 in Eagle Bend, Minnesota son of Alfred and Mable (Martinson) Haukland. He moved to Storm Lake, Iowa with his parents at an early age where he graduated from high school. He moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa then to the twin city area. Robert was a mechanical draftsman most of his professional career. On November 10, 1977 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Hayes in Eagle Bend, Minnesota. They moved to near Pequot Lakes where they owned and operated Hidden Valley Resort for 7 years. They moved to Crosslake where he’s been a resident till his death. He enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, the outdoors, airplanes, hunting and fishing.

Robert is survived by his wife Charlotte; a son Mark Haukland of Crosslake; 3 daughters, Diane Westphal of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Jackie Bellfield of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Jaimee Bellfield of Crystal Minnesota; a brother Dale Haukland of Danville, California; a sister Janet Wilde of Marble Falls, Texas and 2 grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.

Michael Patrick Flynn

Michael Patrick Flynn, age 51, of Gulf Breeze, FL, died September 20, 2000 at his home. Services will be Thursday, September 28, 2000 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, MN. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 AM at the church. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Camp Ripley. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake.
Michael Patrick Flynn was born April 6, 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Alvin “Pat” and Jane (Kocina) Flynn. He grew up in Minneapolis and attended St. Anthony Village High School. He served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge he worked as a mechanic in the Minneapolis area. He later moved to Gulf Breeze, FL, where he has lived since.

Michael is survived by his lifetime companion, special friend and love Linda Duncan and her loving family; his son, Neil Flynn of Fridley, MN; his father Pat Flynn of Ideal Corners, MN; 3 brothers, Raymond (sister-in-law Barb) Flynn of Brooklyn Center, MN, Steve Flynn of Maple Grove, MN, Scott Flynn of St. Anthony Village, MN; 2 sisters Judy (brother-in-law Jeff) Drigans of KS, and Teri Jo Flynn of Ideal Corners; 2 nephews, Jonathon Flynn and Ryan Drigans, and a niece, Camille Drigans. His mother, Jane preceded him in death.

Jeanean Heinz

Jeanean Heinz age 68 of Crosslake, MN died on September 20, 2000 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. The funeral will be at 11 AM on Saturday, September 23,2000 at the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake. Friends may call Friday September 22 from 5 PM to 8PM with parish prayers at 7 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake. Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake.
Jeanean Adeline Heinz was born on November 30, 1931 in Appleton, Minnesota daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Hermeling) Powell. She attended school in Appleton. On February 15, 1961, in Madison, South Dakota she was united in marriage to Arthur Heinz. Jeanean worked with her husband at 10,000 Auto Parts in Crystal, Minnesota. They moved to Crosslake permanently in 1992. She was a member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, the Lioness of Ideal Corners/Crosslake and the American Legion Auxiliary of Crosslake. Jeanean enjoyed her husband, family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, homemaking and traveling. She also enjoyed her summers in Crosslake with all her friends and her winters in Florida.

Jeanean is survived by her husband, Arthur; a son Todd Heinz of Loretto, Minnesota; a daughter Julie (Roger) Paulsen of Maple Grove, Minnesota; a sister Frances Larson of Minneapolis, Minnesota and 3 grandchildren. Her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death.

Eugene VanVickle was born October 26, 1932 in Pillager son of Vernie and Gladys (Erickson) VanVickle. Eugene grew up in Pillager and graduated from Pillager High School in 1950. On November 17, 1951 he was united in marriage to Helen Swaim in the First Baptist Church in Pillager. He served in the United States Army from February 1953 till January of 1955. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Pillager where he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 18 years. Eugene then worked for the Brainerd Public Utilities for 12 years. Eugene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pillager. He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, Bluegrass music and his family.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Helen; 3 sons, Leroy VanVickle, Brad VanVickle and Brian VanVickle all of Pillager, a sister Eleanor Root also of Pillager, 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. His parents, 1 daughter and 1 brother, Arnold preceded him in death.

Services will be on Saturday, September 30, 2000 at 11:00 AM at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake with Reverend Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake. Visitation will be on Friday, September 29, 2000 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake from 6 - 8 PM, with the Masonic Memorial Service at 5:30 PM. Memorials are preferred. Richard “Dick” McLellan was born on May 3, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska son of Duncan and Lorene (Whitman) McLellan. In 1948 he graduated from Colorado State University in Collins, Colorado with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He was united in marriage to Jean “Betty” Jack on June 12, 1949 in Eustis, Nebraska. He practiced for 18 years in central Nebraska. In 1966 they moved to Sauk Center and he worked for 19 years for the US Department of Agriculture. Dick retired in 1985 and they moved permanently to Crosslake on Rush Lake. He was a member of the Crosslake Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and was a past member of the Elks. He enjoyed woodworking and a variety of hobbies.

Dick is survived by his wife Betty; 2 sons, James McLellan of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Robert McLellan of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; daughter Lori Paris of Bemidji, Minnesota; sister Harriett Gilliland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and 6 grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.

Roland “Mickey” McGuire was born on May 22, 1941 in Brainerd, Minnesota son of Roland and Blanche (Dobson) McGuire. Mickey grew up in Garrison, Minnesota where he attended country school, and graduated from Brainerd High School. He was united in marriage to Karen Wilson on September 24, 1960 in Garrison. He drove semi for Meadow Gold, then worked for the City of Brainerd Street Department until 1986. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Mickey loved hunting deer, fishing, buying and selling cars. His family always came first.

Mickey is survived by his wife, Karen; 4 daughters, Michelle (Bob) Loreno of Baxter, MN, Vickie (Loren) Patnode of Baxter, MN, Kristie (Patrick) Johnson of Browerville, MN, Holly (Patrick) Guse of Brainerd, MN; his mother Blanche McGuire of Brainerd, MN; 4 sisters, Barbara (Robert) Broselle of VanCouver, WA, Marlys (Jim) Bednar of Davenport, Wa, Shirley (Daniel) Barto of Brainerd, MN, Patti (Gene) Triechler of Salem, OR. And 12 grandchildren. His father preceded him in death in 1970.

Alan Rassler

Alan “Al” Rassler, age 40 of Baxter, died on Thursday, October 12, 2000, at the Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 18, at 1:00 PM, at the Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter, with Pastor Dennis Pederson officiating. Interment will follow at the Gil Gal Cemetery of rural Pillager. Friends may visit at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter from 5-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 17, and for one hour prior to the services at church. The American Legion Post #255 of Brainerd, MN will provide military honors.
Alan Rassler was born to William and Harriet (Wilson) Rassler on September 5, 1960, in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up and attended school in Minneapolis, and later moved to Pillager with his family in 1974. He served in the Army National Guard in the late 1970’s, and was honorably discharged. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Rardin Construction until the late 1980’s when he began building water towers with McGuire Iron. He then worked as a welder and crane operator for Pitts DeMoines. His present employment was as a foreman/project manager for Hycon. He was married to Teresa Sullivan Rassler on May 5, 1990. He was a member of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter. He was an active member of AA, attending meetings in Pillager and Brainerd as well as wherever he traveled. He had been recovering for 12 years. He belonged to the NRA and was an enthusiastic gun collector who enjoyed both rifle and black powder hunting. He was proud of his 1997 Harley-Davidson Wide Glide bike, and enjoyed life to the fullest no matter what he was doing.

Alan is survived by his wife Teresa of Baxter, and 3 children: stepson Tyrone Farber, 16, son Eli Rassler, 7, and daughter Amber Rassler, 3, all at home; his mother Harriet Rassler, Pillager; four sisters: Pam (Tim) Klosner, Lindstrom, MN, LeAnne (Tim) Brault, Mora, MN, Teresa (Farron) Hall, Alamosa, CO, and Sherri (Chris) Dobson, East Gull Lake; one brother Gary Rassler, Pillager; and many nieces and nephews. His dad, William Rassler, and a cousin, Jim, preceded him in death.

Beverly Ann Campbell was born July 9, 1939 in Hopkins, Minnesota daughter of William and Lydia (Mazan) Kopesky. She graduated from Eden Prairie High School. She was united in marriage on July 9, 1977 to Elmer “Bud” Campbell at the Chippewa Lodge Resort on Leech Lake. Together they owned and operated Campbell’s Chippewa Lodge. She enjoyed painting, her grandchildren and gardening.

Beverly is survived by her husband “Bud”; son Douglas McDaniel of Aberdeen, SD; daughters Carla (Scott) Stall of Brainerd, Pamela (Russell) Bushman of Plymouth, Minnesota; her mother Lydia Kopesky of Hutchinson, Minnesota; brothers Duane Kopesky of Winsted, Minnesota, Bruce Kopesky of Hutchinson, Minnesota; sisters Donna Reese of Goodhue, Minnesota, Rodann Anderson of Backus, Minnesota and 6 grandchildren. Her daughter Deborah and her father preceded her in death.

Lola Ruth Wilson

Lola Ruth (Olmstead) Wilson, 90, Pine River, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2001 at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center. A luncheon celebration of Lola’s life and homecoming, for family and friends, will be held on April 1, 2001, at 1:00 PM, at the United Methodist Church in Pine River. Private burial services will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Swanberg, officiated by Reverend Larry Foote. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Lola Wilson was born on May 13, 1910 in Whitten, IA, to Ezra and Mabel (Kauffman) Olmstead. After high school she attended Iowa State College in Ames and Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and received a degree and teaching certificate. She married Donald Wilson on October 20, 1935 in Des Moines. The family lived in Cedar Heights and Nashua, IA until moving to Pine River, MN in 1944. Lola and Donald managed the J.L.Anderson Lumber Company for 13 years, then owned Wilson’s Paint Store until 1968. Lola was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Pine River. She enjoyed playing cards, word games, and crossword puzzles. She was a shining light to her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Lola Wilson is survived by a daughter Janice (Leland) Jones of Winona; a son Dennis (Pam) Wilson of Brooklyn Park; two grandchildren Jeffrey and Gregory Peterson; four step-grandchildren Lance and Lauren Saxerud and Kirsten and Mark Jones; five great-grandchildren Ashley, Summer, Hannah, Nicholas, and Emily Peterson; and three step-great-grandchildren Briane, Spencer, and Tanner Bechtold. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald on July 31, 1983, and her brother Lyle Olmstead in 1991.

Arthur A. Ebert

Arthur A. Ebert, age 87, of Nisswa, died on Monday, March 12, 2001 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Memorial services will be Saturday, March 17, 2001, at 1:00 PM, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with Reverend Robert Twiton officiating. Visitation is 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Arthur A. Ebert was born on April 23, 1913 in Merrill, Wisconsin, to Charles and Laura (Combs) Ebert. He attended school at Merrill. He was in the CCC Corp in the 1930’s. He entered the United States Navy during WW 11. Following his honorable discharge he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended Dunwoody Institute. He worked in the plumbing profession and then taught plumbing at Dunwoody Institute. He was united in marriage to DeLores Lindquist on July 17, 1962 in Minneapolis. He became a plumbing inspector in 1962 in Minneapolis and held that position until his retirement in 1978. Arthur and DeLores moved to Roy Lake in 1979. He was an avid skier and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Plumbers Union # 15, the American Society of Sanitary Engineering where he served as Regional Director, and a member of the Silver M Football Club of Merrill.

Arthur is survived by his wife, DeLores; 2 sons, Douglas Ebert of Nisswa, Minnesota, Wayne Ebert of Dublin, California; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great- great-grandchild. His parents and 11 brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Arthur Heinz

Arthur Heinz, age 70 of Crosslake, Minnesota died on Sunday, March 4, 2001 in Largo, Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 10, 2001 at 1:00 PM at the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake with Father Dennis Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake with military honors provided by the Crosslake American Legion Post #500. Friends may call Friday, March 9, 2001 from 5-8 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake and an hour before service at the church on Saturday.
Arthur Frank Heinz was born on November 19, 1930 in Litchfield, Minnesota son of Arthur and Martha (Maahs) Heinz. Art grew up and graduated from Litchfield High School. He then worked construction and traveled. He served in the United States Air Force. Following his honorable discharge he was united in marriage to Jeanean Powell on February 15, 1961 in Madison, South Dakota. They lived in Maple Grove, Minnesota where they owned and operated 10,000 Auto Parts in Crystal, Minnesota. In 1992 he retired and they moved to Crosslake. He was a member of the Crosslake American Legion Post #500. He enjoyed his family, friends and people. He was always fixing things. He liked the lake, country music and he liked to travel.

Art is survived by a son, Todd Heinz of Loretto, Minnesota; a daughter Julie (Roger) Paulsen of Maple Grove, Minnesota; a sister Isabella Pretzel of Seattle Washington and 3 grandchildren. His wife Jeanean, parents and 2 sisters preceded him in death.

Ruth Marie Shell

Ruth Marie Shell was born September 15, 1921 in Chicago, IL, to William H. and Anna M. (MacFerren) Hughes. She graduated from Wheaton High School. She was united in marriage to Frank E. Shell on April 19, 1947 in Wheaton. She worked in accounting. In 1973, Ruth and Frank purchased a pet store named Feathers & Fins, which they operated until Frank’s death in 1980. She moved to North Long Lake to be near her family. She was a member of RSVP. She enjoyed fishing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and raising birds.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Janet (Jim) Tropp of Brainerd; her son Richard Shell of Baxter; a brother Dr. William Hughes of Bradenton, Florida; and 2 grandchildren Joshua and Jeffrey. Her husband, Frank, her parents, and a brother, Howard Hughes, preceded her in death.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Thursday morning from 9 to 10:30 AM. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
Lloyd David Giddings was born on September 21, 1906, in Staples, MN, to Kellog C. and Millie (Savoy) Giddings. He grew up and attended school in Staples. On July 27, 1933, he married Tracy L. Kennedy at the parsonage of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He worked at the Northern Pacific Railroad as a conductor, retiring after more than 45 years. Following Tracy’s death in 1964, he married Marion Willis Avery on February 15, 1965. Lloyd was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, as well as several railroad organizations, including The Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks, The Railroad Trainmen, and The Order of Railroad Conductors. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling.

Lloyd is survived by a sister, Mary Jane (Arthur) Nelson of Portland, OR, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tracy, and his wife, Marion; his parents; and two sisters, Cleo and Clarice.
