Hope Marie Brown, of Staples, MN, the 21 month old daughter of Robby and Amanda Brown, died on Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis following a battle with leukemia. Services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, with Pastor Bradley Skogen and Pastor Steve Sveom officiating. Friends may call at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples on Monday, from 5 to 8 PM. Burial will be in the Poplar Cemetery near Leader.
Hope Marie Brown was born on June 23, 1999, in Winona, MN, to Robby and Amanda (Bendson) Brown. She was baptized at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples in September of 1999. Hope was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her, and she touched many hearts in her brief time with us.

Hope is survived by her parents, Robbie and Amanda Brown, and her brother, Gage, all of Staples; maternal grandparents, Alan and Joan Bendson of Leader, MN; paternal grandparents, Ernest Brown, Jr. of Staples and Jeanne Brown of Staples; great-grandparents, Joe and Vi Mack of Osage, MN, Hazel Brown of Butler, MN, Evelyn Bendson of Staples, and Ed and Ethel Smith of Lincoln, MN; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Hope is now in heaven with her great-grandparents, Lois Smith, Ernest Brown and Edward Bendson.

Dorothy Elaine Glynn
October 9, 1938 - March 25, 2001

Dorothy Elaine Pederson was born October 9, 1938 in Harmony, Minnesota to Oliver and Edith (Goldsworthy) Pederson at home on their farm. Dorothy attended country schools and graduated from Harmony High School in 1956. After graduation she worked at St Mary¹s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota and then attended Nursing School at Bethesda Lutheran Hospital in Minneapolis graduating with a degree in Nursing in 1958. Dorothy married Patrick Glynn of Grand Meadow, Minnesota in 1959 at Greenfield Church in Harmony and they moved to Staples in 1963, where Pat taught high school and Dorothy was a nurse for 35 years at the Staples Hospital, retiring in 1999. Dorothy was blessed by many wonderful friends and enjoyed collecting antiques, playing bridge with the Bridge Club, and spending time with family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Pat in 1996, her parents, and an older brother, Manford. Dorothy is survived by three children and their families- Brian, Linda and Brianna Glynn of Bemidji; Krisanne, Ed, Taylor and Kelsey Ott of Brainerd; and Darren, Lisa, Patrick and Parker Glynn of Perham. Dorothy is also survived by a sister, Phyllis Grooters of Harmony. The family wishes to thank mom¹s many friends who have been by her side, enriched her life, and made her last days more comforting.

Natalya P. Matveyev

Natalya P. Matveyev, age 29, of Staples, MN, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at her home in Staples. All services and burial will be in Portland, OR. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
Natalya Petrona Matveyev was born in Krasnodar, Russia, on July 20, 1971 to Peter and Elizabeth Shevchenko. She married Aleksandr V. Matveyev on November 28, 1992 in Portland, OR. They moved to Staples in the fall of 2000.

Natalya is survived by her husband, Aleksandr; a son, Ruvim Matveyev and a daughter, Juliya Matveyev, both of Staples; her parents; 5 sisters, Valentina Shevchenko, Vera Shevchenko, Olga Shevchenko, Nadezhda Shevchenko, and Jubov Shevchenko; and 2 brothers, Vladimir Shevchenko and Victor Shevchenko.

John Thorn
December 28, 1915 - April 3, 2001

Place of Funeral: -- Congregational Church, Staples, MN -- Monday, April 9, 2001 @ 1:00 PM

John Thorn, age 85, of Staples, MN, died Tuesday, April 03, 2001, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Services are scheduled for Monday, April 9th, at 1:00 PM, at the Congregational Church in Staples, with Reverend Muriel Hachfeld and Reverend Dean Morin officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
John E. Thorn was born on December 28, 1915, in Staples, MN, to Enos W. and Kathryn A. (Ringler) Thorn. He grew up and attended school in Staples, graduating from Staples High School. He married Myrtle May Johnson on May 2, 1936 in Verndale, MN. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a brakeman and conductor from 1941 to his retirement in 1975. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, camping and snowmobiling. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Staples.

John is survived by a daughter, Nancy Rebischke of Plymouth, MN; a grandson, Robert Rebischke of Minneapolis, MN; 2 granddaughters, Cindy Leen of Sauk Rapids, MN and Sara Beckstrom of Sartell, MN; 1 sister, Catherine Seiver of Austin, MN; 4 great-grandchildren, Mitchell Leen, Justin Leen, Rachel Leen, and Brady John Beckstrom. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle; his parents; and 8 brothers and sisters.

Herbert K. Erickson

Herbert K. Erickson, age 90, of Brainerd passed away at St. Joseph’s Medical Center on Tuesday, December 26, 2000. Funeral services will be 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 30, 2000 at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 to 12 at the church. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Camp Ripley. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Herbert Kenneth Erickson was born on September 1, 1910, in Biwabik, MN to John and Helmie (Winquist) Erickson. At a young age he moved to Two Harbors, MN where he grew up and attended schools, graduating with the class of 1928. He went on to attend Hibbing Community College and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. On January 6, 1939, he was married to Marion Thoreson in Minneapolis. In February of 1944 he entered the United States Army and served in the Philippines during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he and Marion moved to Brainerd, MN where he was a salesman at the Dodge car dealership. He later gained employment with State of Minnesota as a Highway Public Safety Information Officer where he worked until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Park United Methodist Church, American Legion, VFW, the Elks Lodge and the Fraternal order of the Masons. He enjoyed woodworking and the out doors, especially fishing and time spent at the cabin. His most beloved time was that spent with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Marion; his son, John (Mary) Erickson of Devils Lake, ND; his daughter, Linda (Robert) Jensen of Anoka; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Vera Bender of Brainerd. Tyrus Eugene Urbanski

Tyrus Eugene Urbanski, age 62, of rural Brainerd, Minnesota died Thursday, January 4, 2001. Services will be on Monday, January 8, 2001 at 11:00 am at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with Rev Dr Paul Fruth officiating, burial will be in the Pine River Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 AM Monday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel.
Tyrus Eugene Urbanski was born on November 6, 1938 in Tracy, Minnesota son of Anestas and Fern (Uecker) Urbanski. He graduated from high school in St Paul, Minnesota and attended Dunwoody Institute for auto bodywork. He worked in auto body repair, then worked as a plater until his illness. He then moved to Norway Lake near Pine River, then moved to rural Brainerd in 1990 where he’s been a resident till his death. He received a kidney transplant and was the oldest living kidney recipient. Tyrus enjoyed hunting, fishing, the out doors and carpentry work.

Tyrus is survived by 2 sons Timothy Urbanski, Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Tom Urbanski of Superior, Wisconsin; a brother Michael (Doris) Urbanski of Chaska, Minnesota. William E. Day

William E. Day, age 74, of Brainerd, died on Saturday, January 6, 2001 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral services will be at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church of Brainerd on Tuesday, January 9, at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Doctor Paul Fruth officiating. Friends may call on Monday, January 8, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter from 5-8:00 PM with parish prayers at 6:00, and at St. Andrews on Tuesday from 10-11:00 AM. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Camp Ripley. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion, Post 255 of Brainerd.
William Day was born in Big Bay, MI on May 12, 1926, to Gertrude and Leo E. Day. The family moved from MI to Duluth, MN, where he grew up and attended schools. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Army, and served in Germany during WWII. After his honorable discharge he returned to Duluth, where he met his wife of 52 years, Virginia Method Day. The couple was married on July 10, 1948. They moved to Brainerd in 1955 when William accepted an offer to become the Manager of Mathison Tire (later known as Royal Tire), a position that he held for more than 50 years. William was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. He belonged to the Elks Club, the American Legion, and the County Club. He was active for many years in the Brainerd Exchange Club.

William Day is survived by his wife Virginia Day; a daughter Bonnie Rude, Brainerd; a son Kenneth (Mary) Day, Baxter; a sister Lorraine Tousignant, Duluth; a brother Robert (Darlene) Day, Duluth; 2 granddaughters, Kelsie and Mindy; and 4 grandsons, Brian, Tim, Gregg, and Riley. His parents and 2 sisters preceded him in death.

Lois H. Moen
Oct 16. 1912 - Jan 8, 2001

Place of Funeral: -- St. John's Lutheran Church -- January 13, 2001

Lois Moen, age 88, of Elk River, MN. formerly of Zimmerman, Minnesota died Monday, January 8, 2001 at Fairview Hospital in Princeton, MN. Services will Saturday, January 13, 2001 at 11 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Zimmerman with Pastor Mari Larson Officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour before services at the church. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton, Minnesota. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Lois H. Moen was born October 16, 1912, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, daughter of Andrew and Selma (Glarum) Sherven. She was schooled in Devils Lake, North Dakota and Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Lois was united in marriage to Lawrence Moen in August of 1932. She lived in Zimmerman, Wheaton, Wendell and the Fergus Falls area. She worked for many years for Ericksen, Helleksen, Vye Lumber Company in Wheaton. She retired to Zimmerman.

Lois is survived by her son-in-law Warren Herold of Merrifield, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Steve (Jennie) Herold of Elk River, Minnesota, Jeff (Laure) Herold of Mendota Heights, Minnesota, Dan (Lynette) Herold of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Nancy (Herold) Langlais (Ed) of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Paul (Chris) Herold of Brainerd; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Her daughters, Beverly Herold and Sandra Moen, husband Lawrence, parents, a brother and a sister preceded her in death.
