Albert “Lee” Olson, age 68, Ideal Township, died at home on Tuesday, December 19, 2000. Services will be private. Memorials are preferred, to the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Rd., Des Plaines, IL 60018. Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
Albert Olson was born on July 19, 1932 in Watertown, SD, to William and Ola (Grinnels) Olson. He later moved with his family to Excelsior, MN. After completing school, Albert served in the Army National Guard, and was active during the Korean conflict. He was married to LaVaune Johnston in Excelsior on September 3, 1954. The couple lived in Minnetonka following their marriage, until moving to a home they built on Kimball Lake in Ideal Township in 1991. Albert Olson was a Lifetime Member of the American Legion of Crosslake. He enjoyed fishing and travel.

Albert Olson is survived by his wife LaVaune; two daughters Jodie (Roger) Litchy, Corcoran, MN, and Paula (Mark) Gregorich, Maple Grove, MN; two sons, Kevin (Barbara) Olson, Shelby Township, MI, and Scott (Marilyn) Olson, Sturgeon Lake, MN; 4 sisters Frances Kingsland, Eagle Point, OR, Violet Kildahl, Crosslake, MN, Polly Lundeen, Mora, MN, and Betty Olsen, Seattle, WA; one brother Ted (Mary Jane) Olson, Pequot Lakes, MN; and 7 grandchildren. Donald Dobrzynski

Place of Funeral: -- St. Andrews Catholic Church -- Dec 21, 2000 - 11 AM

Donald Dobrzynski, age 65, of Baxter, MN died on Saturday, December 16, 2000 at the Bethany Good Samaritan Home in Brainerd, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, December 21, 2000 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrews Catholic Church with Reverend Doctor Paul Fruth officiating. Family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 20, 2000 from 5 - 7 PM with parish prayers at 6 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Also 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Baxter City Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Donald Peter Dobrzynski was born October 19, 1935 in Thorp, Wisconsin son of Andrew and Frances (Strzok) Dobrzynski. He graduated from high school in Thorp and attended the University of Wisconsin in River Falls, Wisconsin. Don entered the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge he was united in marriage to Virginia VanDenHeuvel on May 19, 1962 in Gilman, Wisconsin. They moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin and he worked at Montgomery Wards, then was transferred to Sioux City, Iowa. From there to Montgomery Wards in Brainerd in 1977 where he worked as service manager. He also worked at St. Andrews for a few years. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Brainerd, was active in the Cursillo program and enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors.

Don is survived by his wife, Virginia; 3 sons, Jeffry Dobrzynski of Arden Hills, Russell Dobrzynski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Thomas Dobrzynski of Ely, Minnesota; 3 daughters, Colleen Schienbein of Monticello, Minnesota, Lori Moyer of Brainerd, Minnesota, Keli Dobrzynski of Fountain City, Wisconsin; a sister Kathy Stier of Muskego, Wisconsin and 10 grandchildren. His parents and 1 brother, David preceded him in death.

Harriet Lily Lee

Harriet Lee, age 85, of Brainerd, died on Thursday, December 7, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village. Services will be on Tuesday, December, 12 at 2:00PM at Christ Church in Red Wing, Minnesota with Reverend Philip McNairy officiating. Arrangements are pending with Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Harriet Lily Lee was born on October 10, 1915 in Minneapolis, Minnesota daughter of the late Philip and Mary (Anderson) Malkerson. Harriet graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in teaching. She was united in marriage to Gordon Lee on June 14, 1941 in Minneapolis. She was a resident and homemaker of Red Wing most of her life. She moved to Bethany Good Samaritan Village 5 years ago. She was a member of Christ Church in Red Wing. Harried enjoyed visiting shut-ins with large print devotional material. She was a past member of the First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing.

Harriet is survived by her husband, Gordon; 3 sons, Theodore Lee of Minnetonka, MN, James Lee of Woodbury, MN, David Lee of Red Wing; a daughter Mary Gustafson of St. Paul, MN; a brother Lester Malkerson of Shakopee, MN and 9 grandchildren. Her parents and a sister preceded her in death.

Darlene McCollum
July 30, 1934 - Dec 3, 2000

Darlene McCollum, age 66, of Breezy Point, formerly of Minnetonka, died at her home on Sunday, December 3, 2000. Memorial services will be at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake on Friday, December 8, at 2:00 PM, with Reverend David Stevens and Reverend Kermit Youngdale co-officiating. Darlene’s family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers, to the Bob Allison Ataxia Research Center, Department of Neurology, University of Minnesota, Mayo Mall Code 295, 420 Delaware St. SE, Minneapolis, MN. 55455-0392.
Darlene Kolley McCollum was born on July 30, 1934 in Oak Park, IL, to Ernest and Florence (Peterson) Kolley. She was raised in the Bellwood area, and graduated from Proviso High School. She attended Purdue University as Biology major. While in college, she met her future husband Richard on a blind date, and they were married two years later on September 8, 1956. After raising their children, she worked in Real Estate for 10 years. The couple lived in Cincinnati, OH, Springfield, IL, New Albany, IN, and Minnetonka, MN. They moved to Breezy Point in 1990, where they have lived since.Darlene was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes. She was active in the Breezy Point Women’s Club and the Ossiwinamakee Property Owner’s Association. She was very involved in her childrens’ activities when they were younger, serving as a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday School teacher, and a faithful sports booster. She loved to shop, and enjoyed ceramics and painting. She and Richard traveled often, making trips to Hawaii and Alaska in the last year. Darlene was warm-spirited, friendly, and generous.

Darlene McCollum is survived by her husband Richard; 3 daughters Cynthia McCollum (John Mahoney), Excelsior, Cheryl McCollum (Steve Ottelien), Madison, WI, and Lisa (Stephen) Paul, Geneva, IL; a son Jeffrey McCollum, Minneapolis; a sister Janette (Robert) Garbutt, Tifton, GA; and 8 grandchildren, Neil, Kevin, Sarah, Jacob, Mary Catherine, Alice, Charles, and Josephine. Her parents and a two-year-old daughter Karen preceded her in death.

Wesley J. Felber, Sr.
Jan 27, 1915 - Dec 28, 2000

Wesley J. Felber, Sr., age 85, died on Thursday, December 28, 2000, at the Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Village in Pine River. Memorial services will be at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake on Wednesday, January 3, at 3:00 PM, with the Reverend Doctor Paul Fruth officiating. Memorials are preferred, to the Paul Revere Lodge Masonic Home, St. Louis Park, MN.
Wesley Felber, Sr. was born on January 27, 1915 in Lakeville, MN, to John and Flora (Rue) Felber. He was married to Marian Baker Felber on August 5, 1939 in St. Louis Park. He worked for the Butler Brothers Company (later known as Ben Franklin) for 45 years, first as a stockboy and eventually as an Executive Vice President. The family lived in Minneapolis and Chicago until 1980, when Wesley retired and they moved to Crosslake. He was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Outing, was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, attended the Whitefish Snowgoers outings, and belonged to the Crosslake Fish and Game Club. He was an active volunteer in the Crosslake Visitors Center and in the food shelf. Wesley was a man who liked to keep busy with his work and with household and yard chores. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help.

Wesley Felber, Sr. is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Gary) Davis of Grand Junction, CO, a son Wesley “Jack” Felber, Jr., Crosslake, a sister Florence Beck of Terry, MT, a brother George Felber of St. Louis Park, 5 grandchildren Roger Davis, Wesley Felber III, Christopher Davis, Carrie Felber, and Wendy Felber, and 2 great-grandchildren Paige Nicole Felber and Harrison Davis. Rudolph Eugene Koksma

Rudolph “Rudy” Eugene Koksma, age 78, Crosslake, died suddenly at home on Saturday, December 23, 2000. Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 28, at 1:00 PM, at the Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church in Crosslake, with Reverend David Schoessow officiating. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 27, from 5-7:00 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake, and for one hour prior to the funeral service.
Rudy Koksma was born in Milaca, MN on January 7, 1922, to Wallace and Esther (Nyberg) Koksma. He served in the Army during WW2, in Japan, the Philippines, New Guinea, and Australia. He was married to his wife Evelyn on August 20, 1960, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The family lived in St. Louis Park and then in New Hope. They began vacationing in Crosslake in 1971 and became year-round residents in 1978. He owned and operated Rudy’s Auto Body Shop in Crosslake until selling the business last year. Rudy was a member of the Crosslake and Jenkins American Legion Posts. He enjoyed yard work and gardening and having coffee with his friends. He was a hard-working man who kept busy helping others. He loved his grandchildren and his pets.

Rudy is survived by his wife Evelyn; 2 daughters Shelly (Mike) Wiggin, Crystal, and Diane Stuelend, Minneapolis; a son Bradley Koksma, Merrifield; a sister Mabel (Tom) Hautella, New Hope; and 3 grandsons, Aaron and Ryan Wiggin and Travis Koksma. His parents and a sister, Margaret Johnson, preceded him in death.

Raleigh Freeman Laswell
Oct 9, 1953 - Jan 19, 2001

Raleigh Laswell, age 47, a resident of Brainerd, died. Funeral services will be Monday 1/22/01 at 11 AM at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter with Rev Darrell Pedersen officiating, burial will be in the Pliny Cemetery at McGrath, Mn. Friends may call after 10 AM at the church. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Raleigh Laswell was born on October 9, 1953 at Mora, Mn son of Raleigh F. & Glenda (Schlagel Laswell). He moved to north St Paul with his parents at an early age. He graduated from North St Paul High School. He entered the US Army. Following his honorable discharge he was united in marriage to; Julie Longie. He worked as a truck driver and on construction. He moved to Brainerd 5 years ago. He worked at the Casino as a security guard and at Moonlite Bay in Crosslake.

William George Duckers

William George Duckers, age 81, of St. Cloud, Minnesota, formerly of Brainerd, Minnesota, died Wednesday, January 10, 2001 at the VA Medical Center in St Cloud, Minnesota. Graveside services will take place at a later date. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. William George Duckers was born on October 1, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY son of George and Marie (Kasper) Duckers. He attended school in New Jersey. He entered the United States Marines and served during World War 11. Following his honorable discharge he worked for the railroad and had a lawn care business. In 1953 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Sheridan in Jersey City, NJ. He then worked for Ingersoll Rand and also was an auctioneer. He moved to Brainerd in 1975. William enjoyed antiques and refinishing furniture. William is survived by his daughter, Valerie Rogers of New York Mills, 2 brothers Henry and George Duckers both of NJ. Stanley T. Smith

Stanley Smith, age 72, of Motley, MN, died on Sunday, January 14, 2001, at the Greater Staples Hospital. Funeral services will be at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples, on Thursday, January 18, at 10:30 AM, with Reverend Roy Miles officiating. Friends may call at the funeral chapel for 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Camp Ripley.
Stanley Smith was born on October 27, 1928, in Byron, MN, to John and Gladys (Thompson) Smith. He served in the US Army as a paratrooper during the Korean conflict. He was married to Dorothy, his wife of 20 years, on June 12, 1980, in Cort de Laine, ID. Stanley was a professional truck driver for more than 40 years, and Dorothy traveled with him after their marriage. They lived in Missoula, MT, until moving to Motley 2 years ago to be near their family. They attended the Staples Assemblies of God church. Stanley enjoyed woodworking and “creative recycling” of garbage into Army tanks, toy trucks, etc., much to Dorothy’s chagrin and his grandchildren’s delight. His “handle” on the CB radio was Smiley, a name he earned by joking and storytelling, especially about trucking.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 3 daughters, Patricia (Mark) Curry of Rochester, MN, Bev (John) Lundberg of Baxter, MN, and Nancy (Mark Landsteiner) Aase of Northfield, MN; 2 sons, Jack (Sue) Smith of Moundsview, MN, Jeremy Smith of Rochester, and a stepson Joseph (Rhonda) Pollmann of Chenoa, IL; 12 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, a brother, and a grandson.

Clarence Skurka

Clarence Skurka was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 20, 1927. He grew up in the Minneapolis area. He had lived in Brainerd for the past 7 years.

Glenn E. Huff, age 79, of Motley, MN, died Thursday morning, February 22, 2001, at his home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 26th, at 1:00 PM, in the Staples Church of Christ, with Pastor Barry Klein officiating. Burial will follow in the Motley Public Cemetery. Relatives will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, from 3 to 5 PM, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
Glenn Edwin Huff was born at home in Staples, MN, on June 17, 1921, to William and Verna (Schmidt) Huff. He grew up on his parent’s farm south of Motley, MN, and attended school in Philbrook, MN. On July 3, 1941, he married Bessie June Shinabarger in Staples. Glenn purchased his family farm, and together they farmed and raised their family southwest of Motley in Villard Township of Todd County, MN. Besides running beef cattle on the farm, he also worked at Wolf’s Garage in Staples for 15 years. He also worked some other jobs until he retired in 1984. Ten years ago they sold their farm and moved into Motley. Glenn was a member of the Staples and Philbrook Church of Christ. His many hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking and lending a helping hand whenever needed. Glenn also enjoyed traveling; he and Bessie covered 26 states.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Bessie; 3 sons, Richard Huff of Motley, Walter Huff of Staples, and Robert Huff of Madison, FL; a daughter, Nancy Nieken of Motley; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, a granddaughter, and 2 great-grandsons.

Ernest Richard

Ernest E. Richard, age 79, of Pillager, Minnesota died on Sunday, February 25, 2001 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 1, 2001 at 1:00 PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, Minnesota with Father Robert Landsberger officiating. Family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery.
Ernest E. Richard was born on June 25, 1921 in Houghton, Michigan son of Ernest J. and Elizabeth (Snowden) Richard. Ernest was united in marriage to Roseanna Adams on November 1, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. They moved to the metro city area. He worked for North Central Public Service as Superintendent and Supervisor over construction of gas pipelines for 35 years until his retirement in 1988. They moved to Pillager in 1992. He enjoyed golf.

Ernest is survived by his wife Roseanna; a son David E. Richard of Spring Lake Park, Minnesota; 2 daughters, Joan Leon of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Debra (Robert) Roepke of Pillager; 4 sisters, Margaret Anders of Iron Mt, Michigan, Mary Dewar of Escanaba, Michigan, Theresa Bennett of Negaunee, Michigan, Lorraine Kroneck of Travers City, Michigan; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
