Adelaide W. Fermenich
Services were held earlier in the week for Adelaide W. Fermenich of 7th St., Proctor. She died Sat., March 26, 2005 in St. Mary’s Medical Center Hospice. She was 91.

She was born on Nov. 22, 1913 in Duluth to Ernst and Pauline (Fralich) Stresow. Adelaide was a lifelong Duluth resident. She was a homemaker and a member of Lutheran Church of Christ The King.

Adelaide was preceded in death by husbands John F. Hass in 1979 and Lowell K. Fermenich in 1994.

Survivors include sons John E. (Kathleen) Hass of Duluth and Gerald E. (Ingrid) Hass of Makinen, five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Melvin ‘Mel’ Schnorr
Melvin ‘Mel’ Schnorr of Proctor, who with his wife Fern founded ‘Grandparents for C.H.I.L.D., Inc.’ assisting hundreds of grandparents and fathers across the nation, of Proctor, died Monday, April 11, 2005, in St. Lukes Intensive Care. He was 60.

Mel was born Sept 2, 1944, and lived most of his life in Duluth. He worked for the State of Minn. Grain Inspection approximately 24 years. He was a Navy veteran having served aboard USS Lake Champlain. His ship was involved in the Cuban Blockage Conflict and assisted with the recovery of early space capsules of Conrad & Cooper. He was a member of VFW Post 137. Mel enjoyed playing cribbage, hunting, fishing and barbecuing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Leila Schnorr and brother Glen Schnorr.

Mel is survived by three sons, Todd (JoAnn) of Proctor, Minn., Mel (Sheri) of Auburn, Wash, Tim (Jana) of Hastings, Minn.; two step-daughters, Terri (George) Drimel of Richfield, Minn and Debbie (Mike) Appelwick of Virginia, Minn.; a brother LeRoy (Patsy); sisters, Marlene (Donn) Pedersen and Verlie Mello, all of Duluth; grandchildren, Amanda, John, Eric, Aaron, Megan, Mindy, Ashley, Brittani, Cydney, Tyler and Blaise.

Services were held last week.

Elsa Linnea Carlson
Elsa Linnea Carlson, a 1942 graduate of Proctor High School, died on Tues., Apr. 12, 2005 at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley. The Waconia and former Proctor area resident was 81.

Elsa was born in Duluth, the daughter of Carl J. and Martina E. (Enroth) Carlson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith in Duluth. She attended Duluth Business University and was employed in civil service at Camp McCoy, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Duluth Air Force Base and Fort Irwin. Elsa moved to Waconia in 1998. She was active in the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis and was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Excelsior. She was a member of Vasa Lodge in Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Raymond Carlson, infant sister Margaret Carlson, and brother-in-law Donald Rousseau.

Survivors include her sisters and brothers-in-law, Arline Rousseau of Green Bay, Wis., Sonya and Burton Sandberg of Cardiff, Calif., Sharon and Gary Eklund of Victoria, sister-in-law Nancy Carlson of Duluth and nieces and nephews.

Services were held last week in Duluth. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, Duluth.

Dewayne L. Koski
Services were held Tuesday for Dewayne L. Koski. The 45 year old Proctor resident died Thursday, April 14, 2005.

He was born April 13, 1960 in Duluth to Leo H. and Delores (Ruhnke) Koski, Sr. Dewayne is preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his son, T.J. Koski of Esko; daughter, Amanda Koski of Cloquet; granddaughter, Phoenix; mother, Delores Koski of Duluth; brothers, Harry (Janice) Thompson of Colorado, Michael (Mary) Koski of Esko, Marlyn (Peggy) Koski of Esko, Leo Koski, Jr. (Kris Hunnewell) of Duluth and Darryle (Kris) Koski of Michigan; sisters, Carolyn Goldenberg of Eden Prairie, Kathy (George) Goodell of Brainerd and Lola Vavrica of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Rev. Joe Koranda officiated at the service.

Vivian Evangeline Fontaine
Services will be held Saturday for Vivian Evangeline Fontaine, of Proctor and Duluth. She died January 7, 2005, in Viewcrest Health Center. She was 93.

Vivian was born in McIntosh, MN to Norman and Julia (Johnson) Ostgarden, on November 27, 1911. She lived in Duluth since 1964. She was a former member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and Bethlehem Lutheran in Proctor.

Vivian is preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Berg, Florence Telin; brothers Floyd, Edward and Orville Ostgarden, and her husband, Ernest, in 2002.

Surviving are sons, Sheldon (Judy Aspling) Fontaine of Gordon, WI, Clint (Carol) Fontaine of Chandler, AZ, and Rodney of Hermantown, MN; a brother, Robert of Moorhead, MN and a sister, Edna (Henry) Jore of Fargo, ND; two grandchildren, Michelle (Todd) DeGrave and Bryan (Tricia) Fontaine of Green Bay; and six great grandchildren, Derek Wachowski, Bailey and Brooklyn Fontaine, Jessica, Tori and Emily Degrave.

Visitation will be from 11:00 until the 12 Noon service Saturday April 23, 2005, in Bell Brothers Funeral Home.

Tilla A. “Tillie” Tverberg
Funeral services will be held Fri., Apr. 22, 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with visitation at Bell Brothers Funeral Home Thurs., 5-7 p.m., for longtime Proctor resident Tilla A. “Tillie” Tverberg. She died Mon., Apr. 18, 2005 at the age of 96.

Tillie was born May 19, 1908 in Gully, Minn. to Peter and Christina Sjol. She married Sander Tverberg Nov. 2, 1928 on the family farm by Fosston until 1951, when they moved to Proctor. Tillie was currently a resident of Heritage Haven and had previously lived at Hillside Gardens. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and active in the Rebecca Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Sander, two sons, three grandsons, four brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by six children including Barbara (Steve) Wallace of Duluth and Glenn (Patricia) of Saginaw, 26 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.

Burial at Oneota Cemetery.

David M. Anderson
David M. Anderson, who taught at Proctor Jr. High from 1965 to 1998 and coached basketball, baseball and football, died peacefully Sat., Apr. 23, 2005, in St. Luke’s Hospice. He was 66.

The Proctor resident was born in Duluth on March 6, 1939 to Ebner and Flora (Lucci) Anderson of Two Harbors, where David was raised. He graduated from the Two Harbors High School in 1957 and from UMD in 1961.

David and Mary Lou Lingen were married in 1960 in Two Harbors. David taught school in Belle Fourche, SD from 1961 to 1965 before coming to Proctor that year. He was well known at the Proctor Golf Course, was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s games.

David is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Stone Anderson.

Surviving are his wife Mary Lou, sons Mark (Janet) of Wrenshall and Jay (Chris) of Cloquet, daughters Julie (Dennis) Pelletier of Esko and Susan (Amit) Ram of Kiriat Motzkin, Israel, sisters Mary Lou (Gregg) Anderson of Woodbury and Susan Anderson of Two Harbors, brother Bob (Sandy) Anderson of Cloquet, and 15 grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday in St. Rose Catholic Church in Proctor. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Two Harbors.

Lloyd A. Royer
Lloyd A. Royer of Midway Road, and a charter member of St. Raphael’s Church, died Wed., May 11, 2005, at Viewcrest Health Center. He was 86.

Lloyd was born May 12, 1918 in Duluth to Gaudias and Laura (Martineau) Royer. He attended Denfeld and in the 11th grade he joined the CCC Camp at Gooseberry Falls and then the NYA in southern Minnesota. Prior to WW II, Lloyd joined the U.S. Army serving in New Guinea and Luzon as a Medic as part of his five-year enlistment. After the war, Lloyd returned to Duluth and married Dorothy Borske on Nov. 29, 1947. Lloyd was a carpenter and retired in 1982 from the Duluth Air Base. He was a member of the Duluth Curling Club, All American Club and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Donald, Victoria, Leo, Jerry and Reggie.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Dorothy, his son Pat (Rachel) of Duluth, granddaughter Kendra, and siblings Lawrence (Vivan), Rolland (Marcy), Cleo (Jim) Larson, Mary Ann (Jerry) Jacobsen and Richard Royer.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Raphael’s Church last week.

Mary A. Rosenberger
Services were held yesterday for Mary A. Rosenberger. The former Proctor resident died Sun., May 15, 2005, at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. She was 92.

Mary was born on Jan. 20, 1913 in Two Rivers, Wis. to Stanley and Julia (Wilk) Smekta. She married Harold J. Rosenberger on May 24, 1947 in Floodwood, Minn. Mary lived in Proctor all of her married life. She was a member of St. Rose Parish in Proctor.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 3, 1975, step-grandson David, brothers Alex and Joseph and sister Genevieve Simek.

Survivors include her stepson James of Avon, four step-grandchildren Connie, Michael, Mark and Kim, and sisters Sophie Koshney and Stella Smekta, both of Minneapolis.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Rose Catholic Church with the Reverend James Bissonette officiating. Burial in Oneota Cemetery in Duluth.

Elaine Marion Breimon
Elaine Marion Breimon of Solway passed away Wed., May 11, 2005, at home with her family. She was 61.

She was born in Duluth on Nov. 13, 1943 to William and Aino (Mursu) Sillanpa. Elaine graduated from Denfeld High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to Gordon Breimon on May 4, 1963. Elaine loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping, traveling, four-wheeling in South Dakota and playing with her dog ‘Weezer.’ Elaine was an extremely caring person, who would always put others before herself.

She was preceded in death by her father William E. Sillanpa, infant brother Alvin Sillanpa, sister-in-law Linda Sillanpa and mother and father-in-law Katherine and Gordon Breimon Sr.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Gordon, son Brett Breimon, daughter Brenda Breimon, grandchildren Nicolle Breimon, Jesse Breimon and Danielle Davey, mother Aino ‘Ina’ Sillanpa, brothers Ronald Sillanpa, Larry (Jennifer) Sillanpa, John (Toby) Sillanpa, Galen Sillanpa, Gerald (Cheryl) Sillanpa and Daniel (Michelle) Sillanpa, sisters Lola McCauley (Ray Solvin), Marla (James) McCann and Norma (‘Frankie’ James) DeDominces.

Services were Saturday with Rev. William Pohl officiating.
