Raymond Eagle, age 64, of Crosslake died Saturday, January 26, 2002 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Memorial services will be Thursday, January 31, 2:00 PM, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, with Reverend Rory Swenson officiating. Interment will be at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake.
Raymond Eagle was born September 12, 1937 in Nashville, Tennessee, to John F. and Mary (Magdos) Eagle. He moved with his family to Gary, Indiana as an infant, and then to Pequot Lakes in 1945. He graduated from Pequot Lakes High School in 1955. He worked as a chef for a year, in Chicago and Miami Beach, and then returned to Minneapolis and began working as a bricklayer in 1956. He was married to Lois Wheeler in Crosslake on April 23, 1960. The family moved to Crosslake in 1964, and has lived there since. Raymond was a member of the Bricklayer’s Union for 46 years. He enjoyed fishing.

Raymond Eagle is survived by Lois; a daughter Helen (Daniel) Swanson of Baxter; a son John Eagle of Crosslake; and two grandchildren Maria and Christopher Swanson. His parents preceded him in death.

Thomas Mezzenga

Place of Funeral: -- Immaculate Heart Catholic Church -- February 16, 2002

Thomas Mezzenga, age 51, a resident of Crosslake, MN died Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at St Joseph Medical Center in Brainerd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (Summer Church) in Crosslake with Fr Dennis Hoffman and Reverend Doctor Paul Fruth officiating. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Crosslake Food Shelf and the Crosslake Fire Department. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake.
Thomas Mezzenga was born on August 22, 1950 in Brainerd son of August and Bette (Greer) Mezzenga. He was raised in Minneapolis and moved with his family to Pequot Lakes where he graduated from high school. He was united in marriage to Susan Costello on October 4, 1969 in Pequot Lakes. He worked with his wife in the wholesale distributing business. They moved to Portland, Oregon. They returned to Crosslake and started Mezzenga Distributing Company. He serves on the board of directors of Northern National Bank. He is a former member of the Crosslake Fire Dept, Whitefish Golf Board, Trustee of Immaculate Heart Church, Board of the Crosslake Telephone Commission, Crosslake Park and Recreation, BLADAC. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, the outdoors and especially enjoyed and loved his family.

Thomas Mezzenga is survived by his wife; Susan, 2 daughters; Jessica Mezzenga of Minneapolis, Emily Mezzenga of Crosslake; 1 son, Lucas (Tara) Mezzenga of Lexington, So Carolina; his parents, August and Bette (Greer) Mezzenga of Crosslake; 3 sisters, Susan (Jim Eder) Mezzenga of Brainerd, Jill (Merlin) Carlson of Pequot Lakes, Patty (Tom) Steiger of Nisswa; 1 brother; Jan (Doris) Mezzenga of Crosslake.

Monte Roy Kirk

Place of Funeral: -- Lakewood Evangelical Free Church -- May 6, 2002

Monte Roy Kirk, 76, of Baxter, died peacefully on May 2, 2002. Services will be on Monday, May 6, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church with Reverend Randy Ahlberg officiating. Burial will be in the Baxter City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 - 4 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter/Brainerd and also 1 hour before the service at the church. Brainerd American Legion Post #255 will provided military honors. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
He was born on May 15th 1925 in Milaca, Minnesota to Clarence and Florence Kirk. He attended school there until the 10th grade when he helped his parents full-time on their farm. During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. After the war, he married Pearl “Pat” L. Kiel on September 2, 1950. He then worked for the Ford Motor Co. in St. Paul. After moving to Brainerd in 1954, he worked for Hickerson & Co. for 8 years and then worked for Potlach for 26 years in the finishing room before retiring.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Connie Engan and husband Dave of Prior Lake, MN and a son, Jode Kirk and wife Julie of Buffalo, MN and two grandchildren, Jessica and Brian; 2 sister-in-laws Louise Kirk of Longville and Betty Kirk of Brainerd. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Claude and Merle. Submitted by Brenny Funeral Chapel 218-828-5051

Ethel Rose Kellams

Ethel Rose Kellams, age 94, of Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, died Saturday, February 16, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Services will be at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter on Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at 10:00 AM with Reverend Lilja Behr officiating. Interment will be at the Beverly Cemetery in Blue Island, Illinois. Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Ethel Rose (Frink) Kellams was born August 22, 1907 in Chicago, Illinois, to Charles and Evangeline (Neeson) Frink. She grew up and attended school in Chicago. She worked as a Customer Services Representative for Carson-Piri. She was married to Julius Bryan Kellams in Chicago, on May 12, 1928. The couple moved to LaSalle in 1930. After being widowed in 1939, Ethel moved with her family to Earlville, IL. She lived there until 1992, when she moved to Baxter, along with her daughter and son-in-law. She moved to Bethany Good Samaritan Village in 1997, after living at Brainerd Manor for a year. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed homemaking, cooking, and baking.

Ethel Kellams is survived by two daughters, Norma (Edgar) Carter of Baxter, and Ruth Kellams of Shamburg, IL; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter Dora Jean Curtis. Submitted by: Brenny Funeral Chapel 218-828-5051

Willard Vincent Bell

Reverend Willard Bell, age 92, Brainerd, MN, retired minister of the United Methodist Church, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at his daughters home in Farmington, MN. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 11:30 AM at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with Reverend Rory Swenson officiating, burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd. The relatives will receive friends from 6 till 8 PM on Wednesday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter-Brainerd. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter-Brainerd, MN.
Willard Vincent Bell was born in Pilot Mound, Iowa on July 8, 1909 to William and Lillian (Towers) Bell. Willard graduated from Boone High School in Iowa in 1927 and attended Asbury College in Kentucky before getting his undergraduate degree from Morningside College. He completed his Masters at Columbia University and was awarded a degree in divinity from Drew Seminary in New Jersey. Willard served Christ as a United Methodist minister for sixty years in Iowa and Minnesota most recently in Aurora-Hoyt Lakes and Motley. He was united in marriage to Mabel Bahr in June of 1992. His love for the Lord and learning grew with the years.

Reverend Willard Bell is survived by his wife, Mabel; 2 daughters, Margaret (Larry) Thompson of Dallas, Texas, Marilyn (Jack) Olwell of Farmington, MN; 3 sons, David (Simm) Bell of Salt Lake City, Utah, Charles Bell of Brainerd, Richard (Deborah) Bell of Nisswa, MN; stepchildren Don Bahr of Bemidji, MN, Donna Stedbom of Iowa, Sandra Bahr, Joanne Swenson, Delbert Bahr of Brainerd and Gary Bahr of Brooklyn Park, MN; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Julia (Boyd) 1931 - 1954; 2nd wife, Alice (Weaver) 1956 - 1991; 1 daughter, Doris Browning & 3 sisters.

Jane Noehring

Jane Noehring, age 72, of Brainerd, Minnesota died Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at the Sun Health Hospice in Peoria, Arizona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Seamus Walsh at St. Francis Catholic Church of Brainerd on Monday, March 4, 2002, at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd. Friends may visit on Sunday, March 3, from 4-7:00 PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements are by Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Jane Anne Noehring was born October 9, 1929 in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, to John A. and Mary (Day) Gunderson. She graduated from Durham-Hall High School in St. Paul, and attended St. Catherine’s College. She taught school in Holdingford and in South St. Paul. She was married to Arthur Noehring, her husband of 48 years, on July 25, 1953, in Mahtomedi, MN. The family lived in White Bear Lake, in St. Cloud, and in St. Louis, MO before moving to Brainerd in 1973. Jane worked as a Teaching Assistant. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd. Jane’s hobbies included needlework, golfing, reading, and spending time at “The Cabin.” Her special joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Jane Noehring is survived by her husband Art of Brainerd; three daughters, Mary Jane (Stephen) Santele of Plymouth, Patricia (Denis) Montplaisir of Mandan, ND, and Joan (David) Duffy of Forest Lake; three sons, Michael (Mary Kay) Noehring of Lakeville, John Noehring of Bemidji, and James Noehring of Brainerd; and 18 grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Luers and Margaret Whitcomb; and four brothers, John Gunderson, Jim Gunderson, Dick Gunderson, and Tom Gunderson. Her parents preceded her in death. We will all miss her and remember her with love.

Elmer Anton Bentfield

Elmer Anton Bentfield, age 82, of Baxter died on Thursday, September 13, 2001 at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Memorial services will be Monday, September 17 at 1:30 PM, at Bethany, with Reverend Terry Small officiating. Friends may visit on Sunday, September 16 from 5-7:00 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Interment will be in the Baxter City Cemetery. Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Elmer Anton Bentfield was born in New Munich, MN on October 4, 1918, to John and Elizabeth (Watertott) Bentfield. After graduating from high school and attending college he began working for the railroad. He served as a railroad engineer in the Army during WWII. He was married to Shirley (Berg) Bentfield in Webster, SD on July 27, 1956. The couple lived in Fargo, where they managed a nursing home and Elmer continued to work for the railroad. The family moved to Sauk Rapids in 1960, and later to Buffalo, MN. In 1972 they moved to Lake Alexander. After 33 years of service as an engineer with the Burlington Northern Railroad, Elmer retired in 1976 and moved with his family to Pillager. He founded and managed Arrow Log Homes, building log homes until his health declined. Elmer had been a resident of Bethany Good Samaritan Village for the past eight months. He attended church services at Bethany. He was a member of the American Legion, St. Cloud Post, the United Transportation Union, the 744th RY. Operating Battalion, and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.

Elmer Anton Bentfield is survived by his wife Shirley; three daughters Barbara (Michael) Miller of Washington DC, Cathy Turnbull of Orlando, FL, and Denise (Roy) Rauen of Baxter; a son William (Lynn) Bentfield of Walker; a brother Erwin (Lila) Bentfield of Sun City, AZ; 8 grandchildren Jill, Michael, Bruce, Jason, Renne, Krista, Alicia, and Shane; and 3 great-grandchildren Sydney, Parker, and Max. His parents, a sister Ethel, and a brother Walt preceded him in death.

Eva Louise Williams was born on October 13, 1980 in Brainerd, to Michael and Isabella (Stewart Young) Williams. She attended Pillager schools, and graduated with honors in 1999. She was active in choir, band, and football cheerleading during high school. Eva was a loving person who was energized by helping others, and had wanted to become a psychologist. For the past three years she fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Eva is survived by her parents, Michael and Isabella Williams of Pillager; two sisters Michelle (Jessie) Regan of St. Cloud and Heather (Bob Wallace) of Baxter; a brother Michael F. Williams of Pillager; aunts and uncles James and Marylee Falconer of Baxter, Richard and Opal Williams of New Rockford, ND, Nona Johns of Long Beach, CA, and Mary Raymond of New Rockford, ND; and four nieces and nephews, Padraig, Halee, Kieley, and Aidan. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Floyd and Laura Williams of New Rockford, ND, and James and Isabella Stewart Young of Glasgow, Scotland.

He worked at Mankato Citizens Telephone Company now known as (Hickory Tech Corp). He was united in marriage to Mary Kay DeMars on June 30, 1962. He was president of Computo Service, Inc. of Mankato until his retirement on June 1, 1985. They moved to Crosslake in 1972. Richard enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. He was a member of Crosslake Lutheran Church and the Crosslake American Legion and a past member of the Elks and VFW.
Richard is survived by his wife Mary Kay, daughters Marcia Kendall of Mankato, Jana (Marty) Reed of Crosslake; sons, Jay Kendall of St. Cloud, Jim (Nancy) Kendall of Crosslake; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
