Robert Scott

Robert D. Scott, 80, of Cross Lake, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at the Crosby Care Center. Robert D. Scott was born May 5, 1923 in Pekin, IL to Harry and Florence (Reese) Scott. Robert graduated high school from Lincoln in 1941. He was united in marriage to Helen Jackson on November 25, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. Robert served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. Following his honorable discharge they made their home in Peoria, IL until 1963 then moved to Wisconsin and finally on to Minneapolis from 1965 until 1991 where he was postmaster of the Hopkins Post office. Following retirement they moved to Crosslake where he was mayor from 1997 to 98. Robert attended the Crosslake Evangelical Free Church. He was a member of the American Legion Club #500 in Crosslake, the Rotary Club and the Lake Country Computer Club.
Robert D. Scott will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him including his 3 daughters: Sandra Kaub & husband Lowell of Edgerton, WI; Sheila Mikles & husband Stanley of Crosslake; and Debbie Moengen & husband John of Crosslake, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Robert Jr., and one sister, Betty.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 12, 11:00 AM, at the Log Church in Crosslake with Rev. David Harvey and Rev. Fred Cressman officiating. Interment will be at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake with full military rites being conducted by the Crosslake Legion Club #500. Friends may visit on Wednesday, June 11 from 5-7:00 at the funeral chapel and on Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Robert D. Scott Memorial Fund to be later designated by the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.

Myrtle "Minnie" Greenheck

Myrtle A. “Minnie” Greenheck, 88, of Pillager, died Friday, July 4, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Myrtle Alice Thimjon was born December 2, 1914 on the family farm in Richland County, North Dakota, to Louis and Margaret (Holthusen) Thimjon. She grew up on the farm, and graduated high school in Wahpeton. Following graduation she moved to California, where she worked in a munitions factory during WWII. After the war she returned home. She was united in marriage to Wilfred “Dutch” Greenheck on November 12, 1947 in Wahpeton. The couple moved to Center City for awhile, and then to Pillager in 1948. Minnie worked part-time at the Pillager Post Office and also worked at Madden’s Resort. She was widowed in 1994, after 47 years of marriage. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Pillager, and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary.
Minnie is survived by her sons, Gary (Linda) Greenheck and Craig Greenheck, both of Pillager, and by her grandson, Matthew Greenheck. Her parents, her husband, a sister, Ethel, and five brothers, Marvin, Wally, Bill, Harry, and Gordon preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 9, 11 AM, at First Lutheran Church in Pillager, with Reverend Kathy Ingbritsen officiating. Friends may visit on Tuesday, July 8, 6-8 PM, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, and at the church for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager. Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Building Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.

Gerald "Gerry" Kringlie
June 28, 1932 - July 16, 2003

Gerald “Gerry” Kringlie, 71, of Randall (formerly of Valley City, North Dakota) died Wednesday, July 16 in Brainerd as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Gerald Kringlie was born June 28, 1932 in Courtenay, North Dakota to Christian and Stella (Holmen) Kringlie. He grew up and attended school in Valley City. He was united in marriage to Shirley Rohde on November 8, 1952, in Valley City. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He completed a Master’s Degree in Education at North Dakota State University, and spent his career teaching PE and coaching. He coached football and basketball at several North Dakota schools, including Tower City, Northwood, Valley City State College, and Mayville State College. He retired from coaching in 1987 but continued to work in sales for the Chamber of Commerce in Bemidji. He was a skilled woodworker who particularly enjoyed creating furniture out of old wood he recovered from abandoned farmsteads. He enjoyed shopping for treasures at flea markets and garage sales and performing magic tricks for family and friends.
Gerry is survived by his wife Shirley; two daughters Genene (Wayne) Strack of Randall and Kathy (Seth) Reiner of Aurora, CO; a son Mickey Kringlie of Scottsdale, AZ; three sisters: Geraldine Engle of Fargo and Jean Busta and Kay Kringlie, both of Valley City; a brother Christian Kringlie of Fallon, NV; and six grandchildren: Sara Storbakken, Kathy, Rachel, Anna, and Rebecca Thurmer, and Jacob Reiner. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marjorie Button, and three brothers: Philip, Jack, and Frank Kringlie.

Memorial services will be Sunday, July 20, 7:00 PM, at the Bethany Good Samaritan Chapel, with Reverend Lilja Behr officiating. Graveside services will be in Valley City, ND on Monday, July 21, at Memory Gardens, at 4:00 PM, with Reverend Ellen Arthur officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.

Kurt Anderson
June 23, 1937 - Nov 24, 2002

Kurt E. Anderson, age 65 of Crosslake, Minnesota, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Crosslake Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. The family requests any memorials to be directed to St. Joseph’s Hospice or the Crosslake Lutheran Church.
Kurt E. Anderson was born June 23, 1937 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Carl E. and Esther (Risberg) Anderson. He graduated from Forest Lake High School in St. Paul, MN. Following high school he began working for the Minnesota Highway Department. He was united in marriage to Patricia Israel. They were married August 16, 1958 in Isanti, Minnesota. In 1968 he became an insurance agent with MSI, where he continued to work until his health no longer allowed. Kurt and Patricia moved to Crosslake in 1972. Kurt was a member of Crosslake Lutheran Church where he was the Vice President of the Church Council, former Mayor of Crosslake for six years, council member, member of the telephone commission, charter member of Crosslake-Ideal Lions Club and assistant chief of the Crosslake Fire Department. In his spare time he enjoyed breeding cats and admiring old cars. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him including;

His wife of 44 years: Patricia Anderson of Crosslake, MN Two daughters: Christine Anderson of Pequot Lakes, MN, Jennifer Henderson of Crosslake, MN Son: Keith Anderson and wife Brenda of Crosslake, MN Six Grandchildren Brother: Milo Anderson of Stillwater, MN He was preceded in death by his parents.

Irene Kuschel
March 22, 1918 - December 17, 2002

Irene Kuschel, age 84, of Crosby, MN died December 17, 2002 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center. Services will be Friday, December 20, 2002, 11 AM at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Brainerd, MN with Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Visitation was held on Thursday, December 19, 2002 from 6 - 8 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Irene Elizabeth Kuschel was born on March 22, 1918 in Hughton, Saskatchewan, Canada to Claude and Constance (Litchy) Holmes. She moved to Holdingford, MN with her parents at an early age. On February 19, 1938 in Holdingford she was united in marriage to Raymond Kuschel. They moved to Mille Lacs Lake for a few years before moving to Pine Center. They lived in Pine Center for many years where they operated a bait store. Then she worked at the Onamia Hospital for 20 years. They then moved to the east-side of Mille Lacs living there for 12 years before moving to South Long Lake in about 1989. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, and a past member of the Wigwam Club. Irene enjoyed quilting, fishing, crocheting and traveling.

Irene is survived by her daughter Betty Petrin, of Bay City, WI; 2 sons, Kenneth (Shirley) Kuschel of Brainerd, David (Carol) Kuschel of Anoka, MN; 2 sisters Julia Wellington, of Brainerd, Caroline Anderson of Baxter; 2 brothers Raymond Holmes and Cyril Holmes both of Brainerd; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Her husband Raymond and both parents preceded her in death.

Tammy Ann Sundquist
May 18, 1960 - January 4, 2003

Tammy Ann Sundquist, age 42 of Brainerd, Minnesota died Saturday, January 4, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Tammy Ann Sundquist was born May 18, 1960 in Chamberlin, South Dakota to Harvey and Gloria (Stanek) Hendershot. She moved to Minnesota at a young age and attended schools in Minneapolis and Crosby. She was united in marriage to Jeff Sundquist on October 18, 1998 in Brainerd. Tammy enjoyed making crafts throughout her life.
Tammy will be greatly missed by her family and friends including her husband Jeff Sundquist of Brainerd; 1 daughter, Nikcole Nelson of Burnsville, mother Gloria Nelson and Step-father Erling Nelson of Hill City, Minnesota 2 sisters, Shelly Hutha of Arizona and Dawn Ryan of Brooklyn Park. Tammy was preceded in death by her father and one brother and one sister.

Services will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter, Minnesota with Father Bill Skarich of Brainerd Area Catholic Churches officiating. Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veteran Cemetery in Camp Ripley. Visitation will be from 12 PM until the time of service on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Edwin O'Day

Edwin L. O’Day, age 94, of Brainerd, MN died Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the Trillium Eldershare Assisted Living Home in Brainerd. Edwin was born December 6, 1908 in Aitkin to Thomas and Lillian (Ivy) O’Day. He was married to Rachel Robinson on June 20, 1934 in Richland Center, Wisconsin. They moved to Brainerd in 1937 where he worked for the Minnesota DNR (Department of Natural Resources) Game and Fish for over 30 years until his retirement. As a spin-off from his work he truly loved fishing and hunting. Edwin was a member of the Eagle’s in Brainerd for many years. He was also the secretary of the Musicians’ Union in Brainerd. He was part of a band called Art and the Playboys in the Brainerd area. The Brainerd Daily Dispatch ran many articles submitting pictures for his beautiful flower gardens and was recognized at many local fairs over the years.
Edwin L. O’Day is survived by his 3 Daughters: Diane Leslie & husband Tristan of Palm Coast, FL; Darlene Gruenwald of Brainerd; Vickie Bakkila & husband Maurice of Brainerd, 3 Sons: James O’Day of Brainerd; Michael O’Day and wife Rose of Pillager; Kevin & wife Denise of Baxter, 1 sister, June McBride of Eugene, Oregon, 1 brother, Clyde Day of Eugene, Oregon, 24 Grandchildren, 52 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great Grandchildren. Edwin was preceded in death by his wife Rachel in 1998, Parents, 4 Brothers, 2 sisters, 1 Grandson and 1 Granddaughter.

Services will be on Friday January 10, 2003 at 11:00 am at the Assembly of God Church in Brainerd with Youth Pastor Doug Vagle officiating. Visitation will be from 3 - 7 PM Thursday January 9, 2003 and 1 hour before the services at the church. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the Edwin L. Dale Schaub

Dale Schaub, age 88, of Ideal Township died at his home on Saturday, April 28, 2001. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 2, at 10:30 AM, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake. Friends may visit at the Funeral Chapel for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake. Arrangements by Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
Dale Thompson Schaub was born on December 15, 1912, in Minneapolis, to Herman F. and Grace (Thompson) Schaub. He grew up and attended schools in South Minneapolis. He was married to Jennie Nelson in Minneapolis on October 25, 1937. The family lived in Bloomington. Dale worked as a truck driver, bus driver, and as a night watchman for Cargill. He and Jennie moved to Ideal Township after his retirement in October, 1977. There, he raised chickens and sold eggs. He also kept busy with yard work. Dale fed a herd of deer in his yard on a regular basis. He enjoyed watching baseball. He also served as a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels.

Dale Schaub is survived by his wife Jennie, a resident of the Crosby Nursing Home; a son, Arthur (Paula) Schaub, Ideal Twp.; 2 daughters, Joanne (Larry) Almstead, Bloomington, and Vivian (James) Frahlin, Bloomington; a sister, Phyllis (Lester) Corcoran, CA; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Doris Sutherland, and a daughter, Grace E. (David) Berry.

Glenn Bennett
June 17, 1920 - May 8, 2001

Glenn Bennett, age 80, of Crosslake, Minnesota, passed away at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, Minnesota on May 8, 2001. Services will be on Friday, May 11, 2001 at 1:00 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake with Pastor Abe Cardosa officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 10 from 6 - 8 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake. The Jenkins VFW Post # 3839 will provide military honors. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake.
Glenn Earl Bennett was born on June 17, 1920 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota son of Robinson & Pearl (Haven) Bennett. He helped his parents on the family farm in Brooklyn Park. He married Harriet Crooker on December 7, 1940 in Champlin, Minnesota. He entered the United States Army Air Corp in 1943. He also served in the National Guard from 1947 - 1951. Following his honorable discharge in 1946 he worked for FMC (Food, Machinery Corp) in Fridley, Minnesota for 26 years until his retirement in 1978. They then moved to Crosslake in 1984. They coordinated the Crosslake Food Shelf from 1985 - 1999. They were recognized on the WCCO Good Neighbors for their contribution to the food shelf. He also served on the board of North Central Food Bank of Grand Rapids. He was a member of the American Legion in Crosslake, VFW of Jenkins and a former member of the Pequot Lakes American Legion. He was on the Planning and Zoning Board and the Park & Recreation Commission in Crosslake. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and fixing things.

Glenn is survived by his wife Harriet; daughter Valerie (Gary) Smith of Brooklyn Park; son Milo (Karen) Bennett of Lino Lakes, Minnesota; brother Jerry Bennett of Brooklyn Park; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. His parents and 2 brothers Royce and George preceded him in death.

Viola Scott
January 27, 1911 - January 29, 2002

Viola Scott, age 91, formerly of Crosslake, Minnesota died Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at her daughter Ivy Tucker’s residence in Brainerd, Minnesota. Memorial gifts may be given to The Cedars Home for Children, 6601 Pioneers Blvd., Lincoln Nebraska, 68506; The Anne Carlson School in Jamestown, North Dakota, 58401; or to a cause close to the heart of the giver. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, Minnesota.
Viola Lorraine Scott was born on January 27, 1911 in Milwaukee, WI. to James & Hedwig (Klump) Bent. In her youth, she was very active as a Girl Scout leader in the Milwaukee area, where she met her husband, Wylock J.E. Scott, also active in Scouting. When he later entered the ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, her talents in music and writing were an invaluable contribution to his congregations. They served parishes in Holdingford/Elmdale in Minnesota, and in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Beginning in 1951, they served on the Lutheran mission field in British Guinea; (now Guyana) in South America until the death of Reverend Scott in 1954. Upon return to the United States with her two younger children, Mrs. Scott enrolled at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where she was known as the student who had previously earned the greatest number of credits by correspondence. She completed her BA degree in residence, magna cum laude, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and went on to complete a Masters Degree in American Studies, a field which remained her life-long interest. In the Crosslake area, she was known as a musician, giving lessons to many young people, and serving as organist for several years at the Crosslake Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her three children, Ivy Tucker of Brainerd, Minnesota, Judith Scott of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Michael Scott of Brunswick, Georgia. She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Victoria Hoffman

Victoria Hoffman, age 57, Mission Township, died on Friday, December 8, 2000, at her home. Funeral services will be Monday, December 11, 2:00 PM, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake, with Reverend Mark Anderson officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the funeral, also at the Brenny Funeral Chapel.
Victoria Hoffman was born January 13, 1943 in Moline, IL, to Harold and Violet (Krieger) Seitz. She grew up and attended school in the Moline area. She was married to Michael J. Hoffman on December 2, 1961, in Moline; they just celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. She and her husband purchased a summer home near Crosslake 8 years ago, and have been wintering in FL or AZ and spending their summers here. Vicky’s family describes her as a “special lady who never took the easy way out.” They recall her constant concern for others and her loving personality. She enjoyed gardening, particularly her raspberries and flowers, homemaking, baking, crafts, and travel. She and Mike took memorable trips to Maine and Hawaii before she became ill.

Victoria Hoffman is survived by her husband Mike; one son Christopher (Elaine) Hoffman, St. Louis, MO; one daughter Michaelle (Patrick) Zbacnik, Peoria, IL, her parents Harold and Violet Seitz, Moline, IL; a sister Andrea (Larry) Gull, Moline, IL; two brothers Jay Seitz, Denver, CO and Gary Seitz, Springfield, IL; and four grandsons Nicholas, Christopher, Aaron, and John.
