Wayne Thomas Batchelor, 60, of Brainerd, died Friday, September 4, 2009 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Services for Wayne will be held at 3 PM, Wednesday, September 16 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services.
Wayne was born March 25, 1949 in St. Paul, MN. He worked for the Pinkerton Corporation as a security guard for a number of years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the North American Fishing Club.

Wayne will be missed by his son, Josh, of Baxter; his ex-wife and good friend, Joan Batchelor; three step-children, Brian Jones, Jennifer Jones, and Jason Jones; seven siblings, Robert Batchelor, Rick Skuza, Sandi Radanke, Larry Erickson, Dave Erickson, Cheryl Erickson, and Jim Erickson; eight grandchildren, Justin Specht, Jolene Specht, Jake Specht, Jacob Jones, Jeremy Jones, Brooklyn Jones, Haley Jones, and Sidney Jones; two great-grandchildren, Jessen Specht and Jayven Specht; his step-mother, Gloria; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert Batchelor and Evelyn Johnson; and his step-son, Alan Jones.

Williams Anna Maria

Anna Williams, age 89, of Staples, passed away Saturday morning at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples. Interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery at Staples. Friends are invited to gather from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Tuesday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples and for one hour prior to Services at the Church on Wednesday. There will be a prayer service at 5:45 PM at the Funeral Home on Tuesday.

Anna Maria Williams was born on January 15, 1920, in Benson, MN, the daughter of Anton and Annie (Bunn) Lanske. She attended country school through the 8th grade. On January 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Charles Leslie Williams in Staples, MN. To this union a son, Gary, was born. Anna and Charles were able to share 57 years of marriage together before he died on June 4, 2004. Anna was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed caring for any and all family members who needed help. Among the things she enjoyed were gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and sewing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Annie; her husband, Charles; and siblings, Martha, Mary, Tony, August, Adolph, Julius, and Otto. Anna will be dearly missed and lovingly remember by her son, Gary (Patti) Williams of Apple Valley, MN; her grandchildren, Meghan Williams of Apple Valley and Tiffany (Michael) Flesness of Zimmerman, MN; and siblings, Arthur Lanske of Staples, Agnes Kaber of Enderlin, ND, Raymond Lanske of Puyallup, WA, and Clara Coleman of Winter Park, FL.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples.

Bachel Orville G.

Orville Bachel age 87, of Baxter, passed away Saturday afternoon at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. The Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM Thursday, September 10, 2009, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd. Wake Services will be 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter with Parish Prayers at 7:00 PM. Friends may gather for one hour prior to Services at the Church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Baxter City Cemetery.
Orville George Bachel was born on February 23, 1922, in Chokio, MN, the son of Joseph and Rose Mary (Leither) Bachel. He grew up in Chokio and moved to Brainerd in 1944. On September 22, 1954, he was united in marriage to Arlene Yalch in Brainerd, MN. Orville and Arlene were able to share 55 years of marriage together. To this union 8 children were born. Orville was an auto technician for Mills Motor for almost 50 years and was avid Minnesota Twins fan. He was very proud of building his own home, with the help of his brother-in-law, Sherdie Adair, while raising his family and working full time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose Mary; brothers, Clifford, Francis, and James Bachel; sisters, Lorraine Paulsen, Bertha Bachel, and Blanche Adair; and grandson, Bruce. Orville will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Arlene of Baxter; children, Michael (Kang) Bachel of Sumter, SC, Barbara Burkey of Roseville, MN, Bradley (Young) Bachel stationed in Korea, Deborah (Brent) Prescott of Brainerd, Timothy Bachel of Brainerd, Thomas (Hwa) Bachel of Moore, OK, Gregory (Bernadette) Bachel of Weirsdale, FL, and Melissa (Jason) Stallman of New Brighton, MN; 12 grandchildren; sisters, Betty Petersen of Nisswa and Rosemary Davis of Chippewa Falls, WI; - many nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Chauncey.

Carlson Dale LeRoy

Dale Carlson, age 75, of Pillager, passed away Monday, September 7, 2009 in International Falls.

Funeral service for Dale will be Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church of Pillager. Family and friends are invited to visit one hour prior to the service at the church. Visitation will be Friday, September 11th at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples from 5  7 PM.

Dale was married to Barbara Allen June 16, 1956, in Pillager, MN. He worked at the creamery in Pillager after marriage and became manager. In 1973, he moved to their farm in Pillager and served Sylvan Township for 17 years. He then went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement. Dale loved the farm and raised goats, llamas, dogs, and his pride and joy were his purebred Angus cattle. Driving his tractor, making hay and always helping the neighbors were favorite past-times along with gathering mushrooms, fishing and especially bear hunting on his land near International Falls, MN. His 3 dachshund dogs were his constant companions. Dales daughters always had his help in selecting their vehicles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara (Lucas) Carlson; daughter, Donette; brother, George Carlson II; and brother-in-law, Albert Pietz. Dale is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Allen); daughters, Suzette Carlson and Dena Carlson of Pillager, MN, son, Donald Butch Carlson of Pillager, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Rose Marie Pietz of Pillager, Marion Mertens (Dave) of Wadena, and Carol Mertens (Art Farber) of Staples; brothers, Dennis (Jean) of South Haven, Joe (Linda) of Motley, and Jim (Mary) of Staples; sister-in-law, Dee Carlson of Motley; and many nieces, nephews, along with many treasured friendships. Special niece, Cindy Hedquist. Special friend, Robert Mudgett, Dales right hand man, and Dales co-pilot, Buster.

Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples.

Frank R. Gardner September 22, 1930  September 14, 2009

Frank R. Gardner of Staples, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 14 in Baudette, Minnesota.

Frank Raymond Gardner was born on September 22, 1930 in Nevada, Iowa to Glen and Nellie (Moorehead) Gardner. As a child he moved with the family to the farm at Pine River, Minnesota. He was a 1948 graduate of Pine River High School. He entered the United States Army in 1951, serving his country in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He married Loretta Kline on July 30, 1955 in Pine River. They moved to Fargo, where Frank attended the School of Pharmacy at North Dakota State University, graduating in 1959. Shortly after, the family moved to Morris, Minnesota, where Frank worked at Johnson Rexall Drug. In 1968, he purchased Staples Rexall Drug store in Staples, Minnesota, which he and Loretta operated until they retired in 2001.

Frank enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed his time at the cabin on Lake of the Woods. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, feeding birds, and doing odd jobs around the house. He was a private pilot for many years. He flew out of the Staples airport, and attained his instrument rating.

Frank was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion, and a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Staples.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta, a son, Steven (Kelly) of Willmar, Minnesota; his daughter, Sharon (Rodney) Haug of Hawley, Minnesota; his grandsons, Daniel, Christopher and Evan Haug of Hawley; his granddaughter Misty (Anthony) Nelson of Willmar, and two great-grandsons, Isaac and Kael Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Arlene, brother Maynard, and son Scott.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 on Thursday at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, with services at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 18 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service, with a gravesite service to follow at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.

Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Home of Staples.

Muesing Mark A.

Dr. Mark A. Muesing, 75, of East Gull Lake, MN, passed away Monday, September 14, 2009 at his home after a courageous battle with lung and brain cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, September 21 at Christ Lutheran Church in Baxter with Pastor Name officiating. Friends are welcome to gather Sunday afternoon from 4-6 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Interment will take place at St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm, MN on Tuesday, September 22. Marks grandchildren will act as pallbearers.

Mark was born July 18, 1934 in New Ulm, MN the son of Oscar and Esther (Srock) Muesing. He graduated from Slayton High School in 1952 and from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1959. He was united in marriage to Shirley Anderson in Minneapolis, MN on July 20, 1958. After interning in Duluth from 1959  1960, Dr. Muesing was employed in Tyler, MN as a family physician and later at Lake Region Clinic in Brainerd. Before retiring, he also served at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

Mark was a long-time, active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Baxter where he held a number of positions, including choir director. He was involved in many local and state Academy of Family Practice Committees: 1. Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice, 2. Charter Fellowship of the American Board of Family Practice, 3. Member of the Initial Curriculum Community of Family Practice Department, and 4. Emeritus Clinical Associate Professor for the University of Minnesota Medical School. In addition he also served in the Army National Guard for ten years, acting as State Surgeon for two of those years. He was a member of the Phi Rho Medical Fraternity and served as President of Vadheim Medical Center in Tyler, MN and St. Josephs Medical Center in Brainerd, MN.

Mark was an avid hunter and fisherman. For over 30 years he was a volunteer gun safety instructor in the Brainerd area. He enjoyed donating his time at the Camp Ripley Museum. He liked to read, golf, and spend his winters at South Padre Island, TX. He also enjoyed woodcarving and genealogy. He loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Shirley; his children, Linda Kropp, of Pinehurst, NC, Janet (Mark) Leitzke, of Gladstone, OR, Mark O. (Carla) Muesing, of Maple Grove, MN, and Kurt (Tammy) Muesing, of Baxter, MN; 11 grandchildren, Lindsay, John, Kirsten, and Mark Kropp, Maggie, Molly, Karl, and Kyle Leitzke, Grace Muesing, and Jenny and Andrew Muesing; sister, Ann Behning, of Bloomington, MN; mother-in-law, Virginia Anderson; siblings-in-law, Sheila and Neil McLouth and Sandy and Terry Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Pastor L. O. Anderson; and brothers-in-law, Duane Behning and Jerry Langston.

Tessmann Dolores M.

Dolores Tessmann, 84, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 in Hopkins, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, Friday, September 18, 2009 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crosslake, MN. Friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will follow services at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Emily, MN.
Charles, her husband of 59 years, preceded her in death last year. Dolores will be deeply missed by daughters, Pam (Murray) Feldman, of St. Louis Park, MN and Diane (David) Schnelly, of Tampa, FL; her grandsons, Joel (Amy) Feldman, Dan (Katie) Feldman, and Ben Schnelly; and great-grandson, Patrick Schnelly. She is also survived by her brother, Leonard (Rusty) Larson and sister, Annette (Duke) Petschl. Her parents and her brother, Gene Larson, preceded Dolores in death.

Dolores was a retired employee of 3M with 25 years of service. She was active in the Fifty Lakes community, involved in Helping Hands and was a Befriender with Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crosslake.

Memorials are preferred to Allina Home Care, Hospice and Palliative Care in thanks of the care and support they provided.

Schulist Daniel H.

Daniel Herbert Schulist, 70, of Nisswa, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter, MN. Services for Daniel will be 11:00 AM, Friday, September 25 at Timberwood Church in Nisswa. Friends are welcome to gather Thursday evening from 5-8 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Interment will follow services on Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to SONshine Ministries, a charity established by Dan and Pat with their friends, Keith and Linda Axvig in 2004 that works with Pastors in Mexico to provide medical care, food and household goods to families, especially single mothers, living in poverty.

Daniel was born December 1, 1938 in Chicago, IL, the son of Stanley and Lillian (Gorski) Schulist. In 1970, he met Patricia Berg in Minneapolis, MN. The couple married in 1972 and lived in Minneapolis and Andover, MN before moving to Nisswa in 1988. Together they founded Lakeland Mold located in the Brainerd Industrial Park. Working together was the best experience of their lives. In 1999, they retired but still retained ownership of the company. They began to winter in Scottdale, AZ where they enjoyed golfing. Daniels goal in life was to serve the Lord. He was a charter member of Timberwood Church. His family was always first to Daniel. He loved to fly and owning his own plane made it more accessible to visit his family around the country. He also liked boating and fishing.

Daniel will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Pat; his daughters, Ruthanne Catherine (Larry) Freeman, of IN, Lisa Marie (Scot) Hill, of TX, and Sarah Frances (Herb) Morrison, of TX; his step-children, David Kjenstad, of Fargo, Todd Kjenstad, of Andover, and Lynette Lange, of AZ; his brother, Jerry Schulist, of TX; his sister, Joan Raispis, of AL; his grandchildren, Hannah, Gabriel, Madeline, Elizabeth, Rachel, Quarter, Grace, Lillian, Jesse, Garrett, Keegan, Nicholas, and Brendan; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and a ton of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom.
