Stephanie Ann Biessener, age 65, of East Gull Lake, MN, passed away early Friday morning, September 25, 2009, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd. Relatives and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to Services at the Church on Tuesday. Interment will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, MN. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.

Stettler Dale V

Dale Virgil Stettler was born on Easter Sunday, March 27, 1932, to Virgil and Velva (Swanson) Stettler, Plainview, Minnesota. Dale worked in the construction business in Rochester before entering the service. Dale served in the army as a paratrooper where he had 37 jumps and also trained other personnel. Dale was a carpenter while residing in the Twin Cities. Dale was united into marriage to Frances Madsen on June 12, 1954 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. They lived in Rochester and Roseville before moving to Nisswa in 1969 when they purchased Birch-n-Pine Resort on Roy Lake which they owned and operated until 1996. Dale was employed as a boiler tech and custodian by the Brainerd School district from 1971 until his retirement in 1992. Dale also farmed in southern Minnesota from 1958-1961. Dale loved gardening, fishing, watching the deer roam the yard and all the hummingbirds, He also enjoyed cooking various meals for his family. Dale was a member of the Brainerd American Legion. Dale is survived by his wife Frances; three sons, Duane (Paula) Stettler of Brainerd, Danny (Teresa) Stettler of Sauk Rapids, and Donald Stettler of St. Paul; Grandsons; Chad, Dillon, Tyler, and Nicholas Stettler, Granddaughters; Jessica and Tawnya; two great-grandsons; brothers, Earl (Judy) Stettler of California; Ronald (Peggy) Stettler of California; sisters, Faye Klassen of Rochester, Virginia Thayer of Kasson; Kathleen (Larry) Johnson of Missouri; Shirley (Jerry) Wilde of Rochester and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Peterson, a brother Robert, his parents and a brother-in- law, Ivan Thayer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.

Tholl Ralph

Ralph Henry Tholl died Feb. 15, 2010, at the age of 87 at his rural Motley home in May Township of Cass County. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Motley. Internment will immediately follow the service at the Motley Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ralph was born April 16, 1922 to John and Katherine (Loesch) Tholl in rural Cold Spring. He grew up on farms in Luxemburg Township in Stearns Co., Fawn Lake Township in Todd County and on the Tholl family farm, located north of Motley in Becker and May townships. He attended country school.

He was united in marriage to Audrey Juliette Olson on Nov. 6, 1948 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Motley. Following their marriage, they lived in Staples and later moved to the Tholl family farm north of Motley. In 1959, Ralph and Audrey purchased and moved to their present farm in May Township.

Ralph enjoyed working on the farm throughout his lifetime, where he raised cattle, hogs, dairy cows and crop farmed. He began his work career with Northern Pacific Railroad in 1948, where he worked in the round house, on the tie gang, and on the section crew. He completed his 34-year railroad career working in the Staples Depot for Burlington Northern. He retired from the railroad in 1982. Although there was not much time for anything but work, Ralph enjoyed fishing for sunfish at Lake Shamineau and Fishtrap Lake. He also enjoyed deer hunting through the years.

Ralph is survived by Audrey, his wife of 61 years; two sons, Michael (Kathy) Tholl of Canyon Lake, Calif., and Steve (Emily) Tholl of Motley; and two daughters, Katherine (Ray) Peterson of St. Michael and Susan (Craig) Bartels of rural Staples; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was grateful for sharing his life with his in-laws, Evelyn Tholl of Motley, Lillian Duda of Pine City and Arnold (LaQuita) Olson of Brookings, S.D., and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Marcella Schmidt; four brothers, Vincent, Markus, Norbert and Arthur; and one grandson, Elliot Magilke.

Robben Richard Henry

Richard Robben, 72, of Staples died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in Motley. Visitation is on Sunday, from 4 - 6 P.M. at the Brenny Funeral Home, with Rosary at 5:30 and Parrish Prayers at 5:45. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Feb 22 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Father Ron Schmelzer officiating. Burial will follow the service in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
Richard Henry Robben was born on August 1, 1937 in Bertha Village to Henry and Augusta (Griep) Robben. He grew up in the Staples area and graduated from Staples High School. Richard served in the National Guard for eight years. On July 13, 1963 he was united in marriage to Stella Bratsch at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. He and Stella owned and operated a dairy farm Southwest of Staples. They have also raised beef cattle, hogs and sheep. He was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also a member of the Farmers Union. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed being at the sale barn and having coffee with his friends at the cafe.

Richard is survived by his wife, Stella; daughter, Tammy (Steve) Mumm of Staples; sons, Tim (Joanie) of Motley; Chris (Julie) of Motley; Joe (Lori) of Staples and Dan (Heather) of Staples; fifteen grandchildren and six great  grandchildren; two sisters Rita (Gary) Stracek and Stella (Dave) Fonteyn; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by son, David; daughter, Mary Ann; his parents; brother, Ray; and nephew Jeff Fonteyn.

Landholm Karl F.

Karl Landholm, 78, of Crosslake, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 in Crosslake. Services for Karl will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 22, 2010 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Swanburg Cemetery in Timothy Township. Memorials preferred.
Karl F. Landholm was born January 20, 1932, the son of Folke and Angeline (Hoffman) Landholm. Karl grew up in St. Paul then moved to Brainerd. He was called to serve during the Korean War at the age of 19. After his honorable discharge, Karl worked in the construction field as a Lather until 1972. He served as president / financial officer for the Lathers Local in St. Paul. In the spring of 1972, Karl took the opportunity to join the School Service Employees Union, Local 284 (SEIU). He was a Business Representative, retiring in 1993, then moving to Crosslake, MN.

Karl is survived by his wife, Helen (Staples); daughters, Marilyn (Jim) Trinka, of Cottage Grove and Julie (Steve) Dudas of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his four grandchildren, Kari (Richard) Rugless of Cottage Grove, Brent Trinka, of Bemidji, Austin Dudas, of Orlando, FL, and Shane Dudas, of Fort Lauderdale; his great-granddaughter, Rebecca Rugless; his brothers, Richard (Sudy) NY, Roger (Diane) Spain. He was preceded in death by his son, Martin and his parents. He will also be missed by his walking companion, Sam.

Davis Gerald W

Gerald William Davis, 90, of Pine River, passed away at his home Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Services were performed at graveside at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln, NE. Gerald was born October 15, 1919 in Auburn, NE, the son of Charles and Clara (Dillman) Davis. After graduation from Lincoln High, Gerald graduated from the University of Nebraska where he also earned his law degree. In 1949, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Janet Regnier. He entered the US Army after receiving his commission and served his country for 38 years before retiring as a Colonel from West Point. Gerald spent his retirement days with his family on Whitefish Lake where he enjoyed feeding deer, traveling, and entertaining. Gerald will be missed by his son, James (Virginia) Davis, of Pine River; grandson, Jeremie Davis, of St. Cloud; granddaughter, Aileen (T.J.) Larson, of Minneapolis; and two great-grandchildren, Lily and Hawthorne. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet and his siblings, Harold, Opal, Kenneth, Charles and Donna. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association.

Judy Jeppesen , 57, of Sylvan Township, died at her home on Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Funeral Services for Judy will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with Rev. Mr. Mike Koecheler. Dinner will follow at the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 5-7 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Judy was born on January 23, 1953 to Vincent and Dorothy (Smith) Eisenbacher in Kossuth County, Iowa. She moved to the cities and was united into marriage with Michael Jeppesen on January 3, 1987 in Minneapolis. Judy worked at Lakeland Mold in Brainerd until her retirement. She was a member of the Moose Club and Elks Club. Judy loved gardening, fishing, reading, and pontooning especially with her family and her grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her husband, Michael of Pillager; step-children; Shelley (Bob) Lynch of Wayzata, Terry (Jonathon) Beale of Minneapolis, Robin (Dean) Peterson of Rogers, and Shawn Jeppesen of Minneapolis; four grandchildren, Elliot, Grace, Miles, and Macy; father; Vincent of Wesley, Iowa;brothers; Jim (Shirley) Eisenbacher of Phoenix, Arizonia, John Eisenbacher of Waterloo, Iowa; sisters; Rita (Al) Goranson of Mason City, Iowa, Jane (Terry) Krout of Mounds, OK, Linda (Dennis) Oleson of Dows, Iowa, Teresa (Steve) Lappe of Wesley, Iowa, and Ann (Ron) Kloempken of Chanhassen, MN; brother-in-law Richard Paganini of Naperville, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy, an infant son, one grandson, and sister, Jeanne Paganini. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.

Joyce E. Ingebritson, 83, of Staples, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at the St. Cloud Hospital. The Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 1, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. Wake services will be 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples. Rosary and Parish Prayers will begin at 5:30. Interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery at Staples in the Spring.

Joyce Elene Ingebritson was born on June 6, 1926, in Staples, MN, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Robertson) Nurnberger. She graduated from Staples High School. On April 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Orville Ingebritson in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Staples. Joyce was a devote Catholic living her faith in all aspects of her life. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, its Circle, church choir, and volunteered for what ever was needed including being Librarian at the church school. She enjoyed gardening and canning, and was a member of the Rocking S Saddle Club of Staples.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary; and her husband, Orville on October 30, 2008. Joyce will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Gary of Oak Grove, MN, and Gene (Tesa) of Staples, MN; grandchildren, Jason Ingebritson, Trevor Ingebritson, Kelly Erhart, and Ryan Ingebritson; 5 great grandchildren; and siblings, Marlys Mac Swanson of Arizona, Ardis Luconic of Merrifield, MN, Robert Nurnberger of Staples, MN, Jim Nurnberger of Anoka, MN, Jerome Nurnberger of Grand Rapids, MN, and LoAnn Wilhemson of Motley, MN.

Westin Wanda

Wanda E. Westin, 78, of Staples, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 at her home. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 PM (Noon), Monday, March 1, 2010 at First Congregational Church in Staples with Pastor Muriel Hachfeld officiating. Friends are welcome to visit at the church on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 PM and one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
Wanda Lindblom was born in Wadena Minnesota on November 10, 1931 to Palmer and Carrie (Vanderhoef) Lindblom. She graduated from Verndale High School in 1949 and attended teachers training in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1950. Wanda began her teaching career in a one-room country school near Ottertail Minnesota. On March 18, 1951, she was united in marriage to Charles Chuck Westin in the Aldrich Congregational Church. To this union was born four children: Duane, who died shortly after birth in 1952, Sandra, born in 1953, Kristine in 1954 and Cheryl in 1963.

Wandas love of teaching children was central in her life. She taught Sunday school in Aldrich and Staples most of her adult life. Wanda was a teaching assistant at Lincoln Model School for many years and in 1982 finished her bachelors degree from Bemidji State University and taught special education at North Elementary School for 12 years. In her retirement, Wanda continued to volunteer at North, assisting in the primary grades with her specialty, teaching reading.

Faith, family and friends were so important to Wanda. She was always generous to those in need, and believed it was her Christian duty to offer help wherever she could be of use. Faith sustained her throughout her life and her relationship with her savior, Jesus, was a constant source of comfort to her in life, as well as in death. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and made sure each of her children and grandchildren knew how dearly they were valued and loved.

Wanda is survived by her three daughters, Sandy (Terry) Wiczek of Apple Valley, Kris (Dick) Huebsch of Staples and Cheri (Tod) Swenson of Minneapolis. She has seven grandchildren, Michelle (Fritz) Kern, Stephanie (Greg) Haugen, Kari (Chris) Pfender, J.J. (Darren) Olson, Joseph (Lisa) Huebsch, Jacob Huebsch and Daniel Huebsch, eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Beverly (Clayton) Piepkorn and one brother, Rex (Ann) Lindblom. Wanda was a life-long member of the Congregational Church and leaves behind many friends and family members who will sadly miss her.

DeVries Richard

Richard DeVries, 85, Nisswa, passed away late Sunday February 28, 2010. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Community Church of the Nazarene in Merrifield at 1:00 PM with Pastor Ron Christenson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Internment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Richard was born on February 23, 1925 to Fred and Clara (Doering) DeVries in Oak Hill, Illinois. Richard entered in to the Army Air Corp during WWII. Following his honorable discharge he was united into marriage to J. Diane Duttarer on June 11, 1945 in Harrison, Arkansas. He worked at Keystone Steel and Wire in Bartonville, Illinois until his retirement. Richard and Diane then moved to Lake Edward Township in 1982, where he has been a resident until the time of his death. Richard attended Community Church of the Nazarene in Merrifield. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, mechanical work, traveling, and spending time with his family. Richard will be sadly missed by his wife, Diane of Nisswa; children; Larry (Jeanne) DeVries, Pequot Lakes, Richard DeVries of Trivoli, Illinois; Rebecca (George) Guminga of Pequot Lakes; and Julie (Chuck) Thesing of Brainerd; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Clara, three brothers; Harold, William, and Earl; two sisters; Eleanor and Eileen.
