Adeline Colligan

BAGLEY, Minn. -- Adeline Colligan, 88, Bagley, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, in Greensview Health Care Center, Bagley.

Adeline Rotzien was born May 8, 1910, the daughter of Lyle and Bertha (Kurtzbein) Rotzien, in Raymond, Minn. She moved to Bagley, where she graduated from school in 1928. She married Thomas Colligan on Jan. 28, 1933, in Bagley. They farmed. Thomas Colligan died May 27, 1973.

She is survived by sons, Lyle (Nancy), Bagley, and Allen (Rose), Mahnomen, Minn.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Luella Colligan, Bagley.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Milton.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bagley.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Bagley City Cemetery.

Carol S. Kosmatka

OSLO, Minn. -- Carol S. Kosmatka, 61, Oslo, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, in Northwestern Medical Center, Thief River Falls.

Carol Sue Soltis was born Sept. 9, 1937, the daughter of Paul and Caroline (Hausauer) Soltis, in Grand Forks. She attended school in Tabor, Minn., and graduated from Crookston Agricultural College. She married John Kosmatka in October 1955 in Warsaw, N.D. They lived in Tabor and Oslo.

She is survived by daughters, Julie (Joel) Czapiewski, West Fargo; and Jody (Robin) Novak, Grand Forks; sons, James and Jason, both of Oslo; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Jon.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Tabor.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.

Burial: Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Hugo P. Gehrls

WARREN, Minn. -- Hugo P. Gehrls, 91, Warren, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in Good Samaritan Center, Warren.

Hugo Peter Gehrls was born Feb. 13, 1907, the son of Fred and Mary (Gillerman) Gehrls, in Warren. He spent his early years in Alvarado, N.D. He married Loreen Grace Otto on Sept. 18, 1937, in Warren. They farmed in Radium, Minn. He worked for Robertson Lumber Co. and Soo Line Railroad. They moved into Warren Sept. 11, 1983.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Darlene (Marlin) Anderson, Warren; a son, Alan (Joan) Gehrls, Inkster, N.D.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Mabel Mathiason, Thief River Falls.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Willian, Albert, Fred Jr. and John; and sisters, Martha, Emma, Louise, Lena, Rose, Annie and Clara.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Zion Lutheran Church, Warren.

Visitation: After 4 p.m., today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren.

Robert Myrum

OKLEE, Minn. -- Robert Myrum, 69, Oklee, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1998, in the McIntosh (Minn.) Manor, where he had lived since Sept. 23, 1997.

Robert Gene Myrum was born Jan. 14, 1929, the son of Ole and Sarah (Austad) Myrum, in Mayfield Township, Pennington County, Minn., where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 16, 1953 to Dec. 15, 1955. He returned to the family farm.

He is survived by a sister, Joyce (Don) Caveny, Stockton, Calif.; and brothers, Chester (Margie), Hibbing, Minn., and Harold, Oklee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin, Andor, Theodore, Gilmore and Donald; and sisters, Lorraine Hanson and Margaret Myrum.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Oklee.

Visitation: 3 to 7: 30 p.m. Friday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Ebenezer Cemetery, Mayfield Township.

Ervin Fischer

LENGBY, Minn. -- Ervin Fischer, 78, Lengby, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at home.

Ervin Earl Fischer was born Feb. 15, 1920, the son of Oliver and Hilda (Bahr) Fischer, in Northwood, N.D., where he attended school. He married Evelyn Lidenberg on Oct. 13, 1940, in Northwood, where they lived. They moved to Lengby in 1941 and farmed. He drove a school bus for the Lengby and Fosston, Minn., school districts. He retired in 1977. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 21, 1945, to Aug. 7,. 1946.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Helen Andrew, Lengby, and Betty (Bruce) Raider, Otsego, Minn.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Gunderson, Lengby.

He was preceded in death by an infant grandson; and an infant brother.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Fridhem Lutheran Church, Lengby.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Fosston.

Burial: Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery.

Military Rites: Spring Lake VFW Post #2759, Lengby.

Leslie C. Lee

MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- Leslie C. Lee, 89, Mahnomen, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in Mahnomen Health Center.

Leslie C. Lee was born Sept. 17, 1909, the son of Lars and Julia (Korsgaden) Lee, in Fossum, Minn. He moved with his family in 1914 to Mahnomen, where he graduated from high school. He moved to Fargo, where he attended Dakota Business College. He worked for Gamble Robinson Wholesalers, Fargo. He married Bernice Fiedler in 1933. They lived in Thief River Falls. They returned to Fargo. He worked for Gamble Robinson Co., and later for Northwest Airlines, Office of Price Administration, and Creamette Co., all of Fargo. In 1944 he purchased Oak Grove Grocery Stores, Fargo and operated it until 1948. They moved to Brownsville, Texas, where he owned and operated a motel and worked for an oil refinery. Bernice Lee died in 1960. In 1953, he traded his business in Texas for a business in Mahnomen, which later became Lee's Farm Supply. He retired and sold Lee's Farm Supply in 1969. He married Judith Youngdal on Sept. 2, 1961, in Minneapolis. They spent winters in Brownsville.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Linda (Harvey) DeVries, Surprise, Ariz.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcella (Adison) Sanden, Mahnomen; and a brother, Reuben (Shirley), Ada, Minn.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; and a sister, Eva Mae Casmey.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Burnside Funeral Home, Mahnomen, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: First Lutheran Cemetery.

James Stolp

GREENBUSH, Minn. -- James Stolp, 75, Greenbush, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at home.

James Martin Stolp was born Dec. 12, 1923, the son of Albert and Minnie Stolp, in Forest Lake, Minn., where he attended school. He worked for a beekeeper at Forest Lake and Greenbush. He married Arin Bernat on Nov. 23, 1943, in Greenbush. They lived in Forest Lake for two years and then moved to Thief River Falls, where he worked for Soo Line Railroad in the roundhouse for a year. They moved to Greenbush, where he was a beekeeper and worked at other jobs. In 1948, he began Jim's Game Supply. He also owned and operated a cafe at Baudette, Minn. He retired eight years ago.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Robert, Greenbush; a daughter, Rita (Hugh) Gaalaas, in Wyoming; three grandchildren; a brother, Walter, Forest Lake; and a sister, Elsie (Louis) Rehbein, Lino Lakes, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a son, James "Tub"; brothers, Harry, Alfred and Pete; and sisters, Florence and Helen.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Greenbush.

Visitation: After 6 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services all in the church.

Burial: Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery.

Vivian L. Terway

MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- Vivian L. Terway, 85, Lakewood, Calif., formerly of Mahnomen, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in Long Beach (Calif.) Memorial Hospital.

Vivian L. Sparks was born Oct. 24, 1913, the daughter of Charles and Alice (Lockwood) Sparks, in Lawler, Minn. She graduated from high school in Escanaba, Mich., in 1932. She attended Normal School for one year and in 1937 she completed nurses training from Anchor Hospital, St. Paul. She worked for Anchor until 1940, when she went to Huron Road Hospital, Cleveland. From 1941 to 1944, she worked for Santa Monica (Calif.) Hospital. She married Roydon Terway on Nov. 26, 1942, in Santa Monica. From 1951 to 1957, she worked for Seaside Hospital, Long Beach, and from 1963 to 1969, she worked for County Hospital, Long Beach. From 1945 to 1951 , they lived in Roy Lake, Minn., near Mahnomen. She retired in July 1969. They spent summers in Roy Lake and winters in Lakewood. Roydon Terway died in 1996.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers; and six sisters.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Beaulieu, Minn.

Esther Sorum

HOLT, Minn. -- Esther Sorum, 93, Redondo Beach, Calif., formerly of Holt and Thief River Falls, died Nov. 12, 1998, at home.

Esther Sorum was born Oct. 1, 1905, the daughter of John and Annie (Anderson) Sorum, in East Valley Township, Marshall County, Minn. She attended school in Holt. She moved with her parents to Holt in 1944 and cared for them. She worked as a telephone operator. She and her mother moved to Thief River Falls. She moved to Redondo Beach, where she worked as a home health-care worker and aide. She retired in her 70s.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Roy, Art, Jessie, and Andrew; and sisters, Hazel Thorstad, Gladys Marrs, Alice Dahl and Bertha Gilbertson.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Holt Cemetery.

Burial: Holt Cemetery (Green, Thief River Falls).

Robert Starkweather

ADA, Minn. -- Robert Starkweather, 70, Ada, formerly of Amboy, Minn., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in Bridges Medical Center, Ada.

Robert Dale Starkweather was born June 27, 1927, the son of John and Goldie (Scearcy) Starkweather, in Amboy, where he attended school and farmed with his family. He married Phyllis McMullen on June 27, 1946, in Madelia, Minn. They moved to Amboy, and farmed from 1946 to 1970. They lived with and cared for his parents. Phyllis Starkweather died in October 1974. He married Ella Cirks Baker on April 26, 1975, in Amboy. He worked for various Implement Dealers in Mapleton, Mankato and Truman, Minn., as a mechanic. He retired in 1989 after working with John Deere Implement and Truman Farmers Elevator Co. Ella Starkweather died in March 1989. He married Elsie Cirks Grivno on Oct. 21, 1989, in Ada. They lived on a farm near Ada. He worked as a mechanic on the farm calling his business Bob's Repair.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Barbara (Dick) Obershaw, Burnsville, Minn.; a son, Dan, Amboy; stepdaughters, Karen (Loyal) Sip, Ada, Sherry (Roland) Skillings, Maplewood, Minn., and Nancy (Bill) Galston, Mankato; a stepson, Terry (Marlene) Baker, Fairmont, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma Peterson, Amboy.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; and a brother, Rex.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Zion Lutheran Church, Ada.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, in Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada; and 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, with a 2: 30 p.m. prayer service, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Amboy.

Burial: Pleasant View Cemetery, Amboy.

Clarice Bolin

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Clarice Bolin, 82, Roseau, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in Sheltering Oaks Nursing Home, Roseau.

Clarice Williamson was born July 9, 1915, the daughter of Willie and Martha (Kalhove) Williamson, in Wannaska, Minn. He graduated from Greenbush High School and Bemidji State College. She taught school in several Roseau County schools. She married Thorbjorn Bolin on Oct. 13, 1944, in Riverside Lutheran Church, Wannaska, Minn., they farmed and later owned Bolin's Grocery and Cafe. Thorbjorn Bolin died in 1985.

She is survived by daughters, Lee Ann (Gary) Simenson, Elk River, Minn., and Lynette (Steve) Schouten, Burlington, Vt.; two grandchildren; sisters, Magaret Anderson, Roseau, and Ardith Ostlund, Wannaska; and brothers, Kenneth, Greenbush, and Martin and Allen, both of Wannaska.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Riverside Lutheran Church, Wannaska.

Visitation: Noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, in Helgeson Funeral Home, Roseau, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Mickinock Cemetery, Wannaska.
