Jusdy Hitesman

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Jusdy Hitesman, 32, Roseau, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in Roseau Area Hospital.

Jusdy JoAnn Landers was born Dec. 13, 1965, the daughter of Mark James and Dawna Rae (Tarkalson) Landers, in Guam. She moved to the United States and lived at several Army bases. She graduated high school in 1984, in Leadore, Idaho. She lived in Roseau for a few years, then moved back to Idaho. She married Mical Hitesman on Dec. 26, 1995, in Salmon, Idaho. They moved to Roseau, where she did home daycare and later worked at Marvin Windows.

She is survived by her husband, Salol, Minn.; children, Kalynn Poole, Taylor Poole and Katie Hitesman, all of Salol; stepchildren, Mattea Hitesman, Monument, Ore., Gretchen Hitesman, Salmon, and Brady Hitesman, Salol; sisters, Niota Landers, California, and Sharlane Merritt, Salmon; and her mother, Seynur, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Evangelical Covenant Church, Roseau.

Visitation: Noon to 7 p.m. today, in Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Gibbonsville (Idaho) Cemetery.

The Rev. Stanley Goodwin

FOSSTON, Minn. -- The Rev. Stanley Goodwin, 87, Fosston, formerly of Bagley, Minn., died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in First Care Nursing Home, Fosston, where he had lived since July 1996.

Stanley Goodwin was born July 20, 1910, the son of Nelson and Melinda (Porter) Goodwin, in Duane, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Ebro, Minn. He worked as a lumberjack to support his mother and sisters. He married Hazel Hill on Sept. 20, 1940, in Rice Lake, Minn., where they ran several logging camps. They moved to Chicago in 1943 and he worked in a soybean factory until returning to the Rice Lake area in the mid-1940s, where he resumed working as a lumberjack. They moved back to Ebro, where he worked at Peterson Saw Mill as a sawyer. He also was employed by Minnesota Department of Health as a sanitation inspector. He home studied at night for the ministry. He began his ministry in the 1960s by developing Neezh-Way-Won Mission at Pine Bend, Lengby, Minn., and Nee-Gon-Nee Lutheran Church, Roy Lake, Mahnomen, Minn. He also did ministry at Rice Lake and in Bagley, where he was a lay pastor at Faith Lutheran Church. On July 20, 1975, he was ordained as a Lutheran pastor. He built the Faith Lutheran Chapel, Ebro, where he ministered until retirement. He founded Neekonisidok, a statewide Indian housing project of the American Lutheran Church, and also was spiritual leader for the Anishinabe Akeeng.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Delton (Valerie), Robert (Kris) and Leonard (Valerie), all of Bagley, and Randy (Carrie), Tenstrike, Minn.; daughters, Shelby (Dale) Danks, Fosston, Yvonne Goodwin, Barbara La Frimiere, Joyce (Gary) Johannesohn and Cindy Camp, all of Bagley, and Cheryll (David) Erickson, Clearbrook, Minn.; 45 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ethel Allen, Bagley.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Lewis; three grandchildren; a brother, Thomas; and sisters, Erma, Florence, Ethel B., Irene, Ethel G., Annie "Hazel," Loretta "Bubbles" and Mary "Pinky."

Services: 2 p.m. today, Faith Lutheran Church, Bagley.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Pine Bend Cemetery, Lengby, Minn. (Mattson, Mahnomen).

Marie Monsrud

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Marie Monsrud, 71, Roseau, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Marie Nellie Sluka was born Feb. 3, 1927, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Shimpa) Sluka, in Badger, Minn., where she attended school. She worked on her parents' farm. She married Donald Monsrud on Dec. 26, 1950, in Ross, Minn. They lived in Santa Monica, Calif., where they worked at Douglas Air Craft and at Summers Gyroscope Manufacturing Co. In 1955, they returned to Badger, where they farmed. She worked at Northern Upholstery and Town and Country, Roseau, and was currently working at Pete's Hartz, Badger.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Monica Monsrud, Badger; sons, Donald Jr. (Jane), Ham Lake, Minn., and Daryl, Badger; three grandsons; sisters, Lillian Jaenicke and Rose Monsrud, both of Badger; and brothers, George, Badger, and John, Roseau.

She was preceded in death by a son, Duane; a sister, Mollie Peterson; and brothers, Joseph, Henry and Charles.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Bethel-Stafford Lutheran Church, Roseau.

Visitation: Noon to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Nannestad Cemetery, Badger.

Arthur 'Art' Salpacka

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Arthur "Art" Salpacka, 85, Roseau, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at home.

Arthur Salpacka was born the son of Charles and Mary Salpacka, in Eveleth, Minn., where he attended school. He attended St. Cloud State (Minn.) University and graduated with a teaching degree. He moved to Warroad, Minn., in 1938 to teach and be Warroad's first high school hockey coach. He married Marion Larson on Feb. 7, 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He taught on the Red Lake (Minn.) Indian Reservation. In 1946, they began teaching in Roseau. In 1951, he organized the Thursday Night League hockey program as a feeder program for high school. He also ran the Saturday Morning League hockey program for 25 years. He taught industrial arts in Roseau until retiring in 1977. Marion Salpacka died in 1994.

He is survived by a son, Charles, Seattle; a daughter, Mary Jayne Erickson, Salol, Minn.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers; and a sister.

Services: Were held in Roseau.

Burial: Hope Cemetery, Roseau (Helgeson, Roseau).

Verdell Beaulieu

RED LAKE, Minn. -- Verdell Beaulieu, 42, Red Lake, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.

Verdell Beaulieu was born Feb. 18, 1955, the son of William Strong and Marion Monica Beaulieu, in Red Lake. He attended school in Red Lake and Marty, S.D., and graduated from Red Lake High School in 1973. He worked as an artist for 28 years. He taught music and was a leader of several bands, most recently the America's Landlords. From 1982 to 1988, he lived in Belcourt, N.D., where he attended Belcourt Community College.

He is survived by his children, Sasha Beaulieu, Hennessey Beaulieu, Allyssa Beaulieu, Karli Cobenais, Justin Smith and Craig Smith.; his parents; a brother, Charles Beaulieu; and sisters, Nora Thunder, Candace Beaulieu and Celeste Beaulieu; foster sisters, Glennis Dudley and Deanie Bailey; a foster brother, Owen Beaulieu; and a companion, Karen Good.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, St. Mary's Mission Immaculate Conception Church, Red Lake.

Visitation: Continues until time of services at Red Lake Center.

Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery (Cease, Bemidji).

Emerson Beaulieu

RED LAKE, Minn. -- Emerson Beaulieu, 74, Red Lake, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Emerson Charles Beaulieu was born April 8, 1924, the son of Charles and Alice (Graves) Beaulieu, in Red Lake, where he attended school. He worked in Chicago. He returned to Red Lake, where he drove school bus for Red Lake School District. He worked at the Red Lake Rehab and as a probation officer for the Red Lake Courts, retiring in 1996. He worked part time as an appellate judge for Red Lake Courts.

He is survived by a daughter, Ange (Jeff DeMarrias) Beaulieu, Red Lake; sons, Emery (Koreen Neadeau), Red Lake, and Duane (Irma) and Raymond, both of Minneapolis; a grandson; a brother, Ralph (Nancy), Red Lake; and sisters, Ethel (Duane) Pembertson, Bemidji, Joyce (Archie) Barrett, Red Lake, Brenda (Dick) Landgraf, Milwaukee, and Arlene (Robert) Sumner, Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by a son, Emerson Jr.; a sister, Doris; and an infant sister.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Lake.

Visitation: Begins 3 p.m. today, Red Lake Community Center.

Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).

Juel Tollerud

FERTILE, Minn. -- Juel Tollerud, 89, Fertile, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, where he had lived since Dec. 15, 1995.

Juel Tollerud was born July 3, 1909, the son of Arne and Josephine (Skauge) Tollerud, in Spring Creek Township, Norman County, Minn., where he attended school. Following school, he began working as a carpenter. He married Joyce Holmvik on Nov. 22, 1941, in Fertile. They lived in Fertile, where he was a carpenter. He joined the U.S. Army on April 1, 1942 until November 1945. They returned to Fertile, where he was a carpenter and built homes in the Fertile area. He retired in 1979.

He is survived by his wife; and a sister, Myrtle Sorum, Fertile.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Little Norway Lutheran Church, Fertile.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile.

Burial: Little Norway Lutheran Cemetery.

Arthur Genereux

TERREBONNE, Minn. -- Arthur Genereux, 80, Maplewood, Minn., formerly of Terrebonne, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998.

Arthur Joseph Genereux was born May 7, 1918, the son of Edouard and Mary Ann (LeBlanc) Genereux, in Terrebonne. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1942 to 1945. He married Bernice Emily Nerva on Oct. 31, 1944.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Michael (Heidi), Wahpeton, N.D., Patrick (Susan), Burlington, Iowa, Emily (Michael) Heglund and Mary (Anthony) Amon, both of Willmar, Minn., and Paul (Laurie), Minnetrista, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph (Helen), Fargo, and Saamuel (Delores), Thief River Falls; and a sister, Sister Lucy Ann, Crookston.

He was preceded in death by sons, Thomas, Donald and Peter; a great-grandson; a sister, Victoria (Gust); and brothers, Hermidas and Geeorge

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, St. Anthony Catholic Church, Terrebonne. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice (Bradshaw).

Charles Reese

HALLOCK, Minn. -- Charles Reese, 85, Hallock, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.

Charles Clifford Reese was born Sept. 19, 1913, the son of Frank and Amelia (Ceravsky) Reese, in St. Vincent, Minn., where he attended school. He married Mary Olsonawski on April 8, 1944, in Lancaster, Minn. He owned and operated the Standard Oil Station in Hallock for several years before he began working as a mail carrier. He later became postmaster of the Hallock office and retired on Jan. 31, 1976. He was a charter member of Oak Ride Country Club and Eagles Club.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Michelle (Bruce) Steen, Lancaster; sons, Ron (Ginny), Eagan, Minn., and Jeffrey, Hallock; six grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Johnston, East Grand Forks.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Marie; and a brother, Arnold.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hallock.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the church.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock (Hughes, Hallock).

Hans Kirkeide

ARGYLE, Minn. -- Hans Kirkeide, 85, Argyle, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at Good Samaritan Center, Warren, Minn.

Hans Selmer Kirkeide was born Aug. 11, 1913, the son of Knudt and Anna (Hansen) Kirkeide, in Brush Creek Township, Faribault County, Minn., where he attended school. He graduated from Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Army-Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He married Ruth Lucille Liedberg on Nov. 3, 1945, in Argyle. They lived in Argyle, where they farmed. Ruth Kirkeide died Feb. 4, 1987. He moved to Warren.

He is survived by daughters, Kathleen (David) Larson, Argyle, Bonita (Larry) Murray, Mountain Iron, Minn., and Madelyn (LeRoy) Vigen, Thief River Falls; a son, Harlan, Thief River Falls; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew; and sisters, Synneva Hanson and Maurine Jelle.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Alma Lutheran Church, Argyle.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Alma Lutheran Cemetery.

Military Rites: Argyle American Legion.

Wesley E. Waltonen

MIDDLE RIVER, Minn. -- Wesley E. Waltonen, 82, Middle River, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.

Wesley Earl Waltonen was born Nov. 22, 1916, the son of Charles and Amanda (Ojala) Waltonen, in Cedar Township, Marshall County, Middle River, where he attended school. He married Lillian Halme on Oct. 29, 1938, in Middle River. They operated a dairy, beef and grain farm in Middle River.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Lorrie (Randy) Rose, Middle River; a grandson; a brother, Henry (Lavonne), Thief River Falls; and sisters, Taina Hicks, Fort Belvoir, Va., Sairna Halme, Thief River Falls, and Ruth Affolter, Bellivue, Wash.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Waino and John.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, First Lutheran Church, Middle River.

Visitation: After 5 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Collins Funeral Chapel, Middle River.

Burial: Finnish Cemetery, Middle River.
