Dorothy E. Kjallberg

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Dorothy E. Kjallberg, 82, Roseau, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in Roseau Area Hospital.

Dorothy Evelyn Erickson was born April 9, 1916, the daughter of Erick and Betty (Nelson) Erickson, in Stafford Township, Roseau County, Minn. She graduated from high school in Roseau and Bemidji State College in 1936. She taught school in Becker and Roseau counties. She married John Kjallberg on Aug. 29, 1941, in Roseau. They lived and farmed in Mickinock Township, Roseau County. She had lived in Sheltering Oaks Nursing Home for the past nine months. John Kjallberg died in 1991.

She is survived by sons, John (Anita), Gainesville, Fla., Harold, Susex, Wis., and Wayne, Roseau; a sister, Ellen Snell, Billings, Mont.; and a brother, Arthur, Roseau.

She was preceded in death by a son, Elwyn; sisters, Elsie Kuhlmann, LuLu Stimson, Dora Lundell and Agnes Lisell; and brothers, Ralph Medicraft and Donald Erickson.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Riverside Lutheran Church, Wannaska, Minn.

Visitation: Noon to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Mickinock Cemetery, Wannaska.

Edith Hanson

FOSSTON, Minn. -- Edith Hanson, 79, Fosston, formerly of Mentor, Minn., died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in First Care Medical Services Hospital, Fosston.

Edith Elisa Thorson was born April 11, 1919, the daughter of Hans and Cecelia (Erickson) Thorson, in Benville Township, Beltrami County, Minn. She helped on the family farm. She married George Hanson on Feb. 22, 1940, in Grygla, Minn. They farmed in Grygla and she worked at the Hartz Store in Grygla. In 1966, they moved to Mentor, where they owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station and Cafe. They later combined the Buhn's and Hartz stores in Mentor and operated the store until retirement. George Hanson died Nov. 28, 1991. She was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla.

She is survived by a son, George Jr., and a sister, Inga "Ida" Johnson, Abercrombie, N.D.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Orville, Robert, Wilfred and George.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Faith Lutheran Church, Mentor.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Valle Cemetery, Benville Township, Beltrami County.

Reier S. Reierson

FOSSTON, Minn. -- Reier S. Reierson, 80, Rome, Ga., formerly of Fosston, died Aug. 27, 1998, in a local hospital.

Reier Stanley Reierson was born Nov. 16, 1917, the son of Richard and Ella (Thronson) Reierson, in Fosston. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He retired from the San Diego police department after 27 years. He moved back to Minnesota, where he was a grain farmer until his second retirement in 1985. He moved to Rome. He married Carmen Matthew Lloyd.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Patricia Crane, Rome, Connie Hart, Safford, Ariz., and Sandra Gordy, Kennesaw, Ga.; sons, Don, Oceanside, Calif., and Robert, Chicago; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald and David, Fosston; and a sister, Betty LePier, Fosston.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard "Bud," Clayton and Keith.

Services: Were held in Rush Chapel United Methodist Church, Rome (Dempsey's Oaknoll Chapel).

Bernyce Wicks

OKLEE, Minn. -- Bernyce Wicks, 75, Oklee, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, in Fosston (Minn.) First Care Hospital.
Bernyce Marie Asselin was born March 3, 1923, the daughter of Onezime and Permelia (Hince) Asselin, in Red Lake County, Minn. She graduated from Oklee High School. She worked in various places in Oklee. She married Raymond Wicks on June 11, 1946, in Oklee. They lived and farmed in the Oklee area. She also worked for social services.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Kathleen (Lyle) Erickson, Solway, Minn.; sons, Michael (Lorna), Oklee, and Jeffrey, Fargo; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mayme Berberich, Brooks, Minn., and Lucille (Marvin) Strande, Crookston; and sisters-in-law, Doris Asselin, Oklee, and Madonna Asselin, Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Walter, Harvey and Tom; and sisters, Rose, Cora and Celene.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Oklee.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Petterson Funeral Home, Oklee, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

Lorraine E. Graves

FISHER, Minn. -- Lorraine E. Graves, 78, Pasco, Wash., formerly of Fisher, died Aug. 25, 1998, at home.

Lorraine E. Ross was born the daughter of August and Lydia Ross, in Fisher. She worked as a layout artist for Pischel Publishing for 20 years. She then worked for Pasco Kmart before retiring. She had lived in Pasco for the past 48 years.

She is survived by her children, John, Kennewick, Wash., and Gordon, and Joanie Graves, both of Richland, Wash.; three grandchildren; sisters, Ellen (Roy) Tulee, Salem, Ore., Carol Ross, Bemidji, Victoria (Ferd) Wilken, Fisher, and Eileen Kiel, Crookston; and a sister-in-law, Luverne Ross, Crookston.

Services: Were held in Muellers Chapel of the Falls, Kennewick.

Burial: Desert Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Kennewick. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or Trinity Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 1015 N. 28th St., Pasco, Wash. 99301.

Meri Jo Paschke

BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Meri Jo Paschke, 28, Hopkins, Minn., formerly of Baudette, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1998, in Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park, Minn.

Meri Jo Paschke was born Dec. 26, 1969, the daughter of Stan and Emmy (Vanyo) Paschke, in Baudette. She attended school in Scranton and Ellendale, N.D. Upon her graduation in 1988, she attended Northwest Technical College, Thief River Falls, and transferred to UND, where she received a double major in elementary education and as a media specialist. She received her bachelor of science degree and graduated in December 1992. She worked as an elementary librarian in Langdon, N.D. In the fall of 1993, she became the media specialist at Franklin Middle School in Thief River Falls, and recently accepted a position with Wayzata School for this fall.

She is survived by her parents, Williams, Minn.; a sister, Tammy (Dwight) Klebe; and a grandmother, Emma Vanyo, Tabor, Minn.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, George Vanyo, and Al and Isabelle Paschke.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thief River Falls.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery.

Franklin 'Sonny' Tebay

BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Franklin "Sonny" Tebay, 55, Baudette, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at home.

Franklin Earl Tebay was born June 11, 1943, the son of Everett Earl and Ethel Lucille (Jero) Tebay, in Austin, Minn., where he attended school. He lived and worked in several places in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He farmed and drove a milk truck route for Twin Ports Creamery out of Moose Lake, Minn., until 1973. In 1989, he moved to Indus, Minn., and later to Baudette. He married Sharon Titus on Jan. 4, 1980, in Sisseton, S.D.

He is survived by his wife; sons, LeRoy (Bonnie), Wrenshall, Minn., and Franklin Jr., Baudette; a daughter, Rachel Tebay, Baudette; stepsons, Larry (Mariam) Kester, Hinkley, Minn., John Johnson, of Colorado, Joseph (Delores) Johnson, Cloquet, Minn., and James (Kathy) Boseovski, Yuma, Ariz.; stepdaughters, Nola (Ronald) Koecher, Nickerson, Minn., Stana (Dwaine) Davis, Barnum, Minn., and Christine (Palmer) Koecher, Moose Lake; 16 grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Colleen), Brownsdale, Minn., and David (Marilyn), Austin; and sisters, Ella Jane Rudlong, Rochester, Minn., Gladys (Al) Davis, Pepin, Wis., and Ruth (Lee) Rathjen, Austin.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristina Tebay; a stepson, Colin; two stepgrandsons; his parents; and his former wife, Verleen Alice Kester.

Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, First Congregational Church-United Church of Christ, Baudette (Helgeson, Baudette).

Selma Taflin

FOSSTON, Minn. -- Selma Taflin, 94, Fosston, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in First Care Nursing Home, Fosston.

Selma Oline Hagen was born Sept. 10, 1904, the daughter of Andrew and Mary Annette Hagen, in Alida, Minn. She grew up and attended school in McIntosh, Minn., graduating in 1922. She attended Moorhead State Teacher's College. She taught in several country schools in the Fosston area. She married Carl Taflin in 1933. They lived in Fosston. She resumed teaching in the 1950's in North Dakota and later in Lengby, Minn. They moved to Lengby in 1954. Carl Taflin died in 1966.

She is survived by a daughter, Annette Atkins, Las Vegas, Nev.; sons, Charles (Marlys), Champlin, Minn., Leo (Carol Jean), Port Orchard, Wash., and Ross (Heidi), Coon Rapids, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fosston Baptist Church.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Fosston, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston.

Leonard Thompson

WARROAD, Minn. -- Leonard Thompson, 56, Warroad, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in the Roseau (Minn.) Area Hospital.

Leonard Leroy Thompson was born June 19, 1942, the son of Harley and Evelyn (Fish) Thompson, in Warroad, where he graduated from high school in 1960. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1960. He worked as a mechanic at Hoffmans Boating Center, then returned to Warroad. He worked for Marvin Window, before he began grain and beef farming in Clear River Township, Roseau County, Minn. He also logged for many years, and drove the school bus for Warroad School District. He was a charter member of the Warroad Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry, Warroad; sons, Leroy (Dawn) Elliot, Arena, Wis., and Scott, Warroad; daughters, Tammi (Ron) Amedt-Sokup, Rice Lake, Wis., Margo Thompson, Minneapolis, and Kristi Thompson and Jennifer Thompson, both of Warroad; his parents; brothers, Warren (Carol), Glen (Jeri) and Donald (Ardis), all of Warroad; and sisters, Shirley (Ron) Nelson, Thief River Falls, Bonnie (Mark) Beedy, Moorhead, Wanda (Paul) Rutherford, Euclid, Minn., and Susan (John) Thunder, Buffalo Point, Man.

Services: 3 p.m. today in Zion Lutheran Church, Warroad.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: America Cemetery, Warroad (Helgeson, Warroad).

Rodney Anderson

GRYGLA, Minn. -- Rodney Anderson, 59, Grygla, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Roseau (Minn.) Hospital.

Rodney A. Anderson was born May 21, 1939, the son of Alex and Evelyn (Baumann) Anderson, in Oslo, Minn. He married Marie Nordby on Sept. 28, 1957. He worked for Sand Steel in the construction of steel buildings and drove over the road semi for several years. He also managed Diamonds, Grygla. He was a charter member of the Grygla Lions Club.

He is survived by sons, Steve, Grygla, Scott (Gwen), Thief River Falls, and Tim (Mary), Warroad; daughters, Denise (Shannon) Ostby and Sherri Larson, both of Grygla; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Roger, Anoka, Minn.; and sisters, Judy Meyers, Sykesville, Mass., Kathy (Dennis) Cordahl, Hatton, N.D., and Myrna (Kenny) Njos, Coon Rapids, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dayle; his parents; and a sister, Linda Grothe.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla.

Visitation: Noon to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Green Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Valle Cemetery, Benville Township, Beltrami County, Minn.

Vena Scheuring

RED LAKE FALLS, Minn. -- Vena Scheuring, 91, Red Lake Falls, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1998, in Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, where she had lived since January 1997.

Vena Latendresse was born Feb. 23, 1907, the daughter of Majoric and Hobeline (Grenier) Latendresse, in Red Lake Falls, where she attended school. She married Bernard Scheuring on April 7, 1947, in Red Lake Falls, where they lived. Bernard Scheuring died July 4, 1986.

She is survived by a son, Ben (Jan), Fargo; two granddaughters; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dave, Red Lake Falls; and a sister-in-law, Clara Deschane, Red Lake Falls.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Leo.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls.

Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a 5 p.m. prayer service, in Petterson Funeral Home, Red Lake Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery.
