Connie S. Dahlke

BAGLEY, Minn. -- Connie S. Dahlke, 21, Bagley, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1998, as a result of an accident near Bagley.

Connie Sue Dahlke was born June 19, 1977, the daughter of Duane and Lorna Dahlke in Bagley, where she graduated from high school in 1996. She was currently working for Pine to Prairie Cafe in Fosston, Minn. and Crandall's in Bagley.

She is survived by a daughter, Brianna Lynn Preston; her parents; brothers, Christopher, Clearbrook, and Jamie, Bagley; grandparents, Anthony and Nola LaPlaunt, McBain, Mich., and Mabel Dahlke Holmen, Clearbrook, Minn.

She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Carl Dahlke.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Bagley City Cemetery.

Alfred Bergeson

BAGLEY, Minn. -- Alfred Bergeson, 86, Brooklyn Center, Minn., formerly of Bagley, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids, Minn.

Alfred Bergeson was born Feb. 26, 1912, the son of Alfred and Lillie Bergeson, in Fosston, Minn. He farmed in Clearbrook and Gonvick, Minn. He moved to Aurora, Minn., in 1955 and returned to Bagley in 1975. He worked for the Erie Mining Co. In 1994, he moved to Brooklyn Center. He married Mary Lambert on May 24, 1957.

He is survived by his wife; children, Jack (Diane), Hastings, Minn., Linda Bird, Blaine, Minn., and John (Gail), Brooklyn Park; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brothers, Walter, Bagley, and Lester (Dylee), Crookston.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Tillie Wagner and Esther Larson.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, First Baptist Church, Clearbrook.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Maple Hill Cemetery, Clearbrook.

Ronald 'Gus' Umphrey

BAGLEY, Minn. -- Ronald "Gus" Umphrey, 47, Bagley, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, in Clearwater County Memorial Hospital, Bagley.

Ronald Umphrey was born Nov. 8, 1950, the son of Elwin and Violet Umphrey, in Fordville, N.D. He grew up in Inkster, N.D., and moved to Bagley in 1966. He worked as a tree trimmer in the area.

He is survived by his mother, Grand Forks; sisters, Carol Tupa, Warroad, Minn., and Lucy Forristall, Hugo, Colo.; and brothers, Robert, Mandan, N.D., Raymond, Inkster, Doug, Twin Valley, Minn., and Steven, Park River, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Doris.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Gus' home in Bagley (Cease, Bagley).

Donn Lykken

BLACKDUCK, Minn. -- Donn Lykken, 36, Blackduck, formerly of Red Lake Falls, Minn., died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, in the Northern Pine Nursing Home, Blackduck.
Donn Gregory Lykken was born October 13, 1961, the son of Donald and Marion (Dove) Lykken, in Crookston. He lived at home in Red Lake Falls until the age of three, when he moved to Roseau's (Minn.) Children's Home. He lived in Fergus Falls (Minn.) Children's Home. As an adult he lived in Riverview Nursing Center, Crookston. In 1994, he moved to Blackduck.

He is survived by his parents, Donald and Florence Lykken, Thief River Falls; brothers, Thomas (Yvonne) Fargo, and Daniel (Susi), Roseau; sisters, Mary Beth (Francis) Vaudrin, Shevlin, Minn., Ann (Larry) Wold, St. Bonnifacious, Minn., and Penelope Myers, Thief River Falls.

He was preceded in death by his mother; brother, David John; and grandparents, Lawrence and Hazel Lykken, and Aane and Esther Dove.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Bethany Lutheran Church, Red Lake Falls.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Oak Grove Cemetery, Red Lake Falls (Petterson, Red Lake Falls).

Jennie Berntson

FOSSTON, Minn. -- Jennie Berntson, 93, Fosston, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, in First Care Nursing Home, Fosston, where she had lived since 1993.
Jennie Evenson was born Dec. 23, 1904, the daughter of Peter and Thea Dolden Evenson, in Superior, Wis. She moved with her family to Cooperstown, N.D., where she attended school. She moved with her family to Fosston. She worked on a farm in Lengby, Minn., as a housekeeper. She married Algot Berntson in 1941 in Clearbrook, Minn. They farmed near Lengby until they moved to McIntosh, Minn., and later to Fosston. Algot Berntson preceded her in death.

She is survived by sisters, Ruth Johnson, Cambridge, Minn. and Bertha Berglund, Clearbrook; and a brother, Edward, Duluth.

She was preceded in death by an infant son; a sister, Agnes Berglund; and a brother, Peter.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday in Fosston Baptist Church.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston (Carlin-Hoialmen, Fosston).

Norton Roen

ULEN, Minn.-- Norton Roen, 85, Ulen, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen, where he had lived since 1992.
Norton Roen was born March 10, 1913, the son of Andrew and Christine Roen, in Comstock, Minn., where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He returned to Comstock, where he farmed with his brothers. He married Amelia Perrault on Sept. 11, 1950, in Mahnomen. They lived in Minneapolis and later returned to Mahnomen. He drove a gravel truck before he began working for the city of Mahnomen. He was the street superintendent in Mahnomen from 1956 until his retirement in 1978. He was on the Mahnomen police force in 1960. He spent summers at Lake Crystal near Pelican Rapids, Minn. Amelia Roen died in 1980. He moved to Moorhead in 1988.

He is survived by a daughter, Renee Domier, Laurel, Mont.; stepsons, Raymond Mitchell and Barney (Laura) Dickhaus, both of Moorhead, and Richard Mitchell, Laurel; stepdaughters, Elaine DuBord, LaSalle, Ill., and Eileen Villebrun, Mahnomen; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Allen (Ann), Pottstown, Penn.; and a sister, Genevieve (Leland) Hendrickson, Comstock.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen.

Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Mahnomen.

Military rites: Mahnomen American Legion Isaacson-Bjorge Post No. 31.

Beulah E. Soderberg

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Beulah Soderberg, 85, Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes.
Beulah Homstad was born Sept. 20, 1913, the daughter of Elias and Annie (Johnson) Homstad, in Hazelton Township, Kittson County, Minn. She graduated from high school in Lancaster, Minn. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College. She taught school for five years in Kittson County. She married Melvin Solderberg on June 30, 1936, in Hallock, Minn. They lived in Hallock until 1952, when they moved to Detroit Lakes. They owned and operated Consolidated Abstract Company until 1972. Melvin Soderberg died Sept. 25 1989.

She is survived by a son, the Rev. Mel (Karen) Soderberg, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; daughters, Janice (the Rev. David) Valleskey, Mequon, Wis. and Sue (Dan) Richmond, Kinnear, Wyo.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford (Genevieve) Homstad, Thief River Falls; and sisters, Myrtle Boring, Ventura, Calif., Lenore Foss, Grand Rapids, Minn., and Grace Brown, Hallock.

She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, and a 3 p.m., Saturday graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, in West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery.

John B. Field

STEPHEN, Minn. -- John B. Field, 78, Stephen, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

John B. Field was born May 17, 1920, the son of J. Ward and Ethel (Lyons) Field, in Donnelly Township, Marshall County, Minn. He graduated from high school in Stephen in 1938. He attended Globe Business College, St. Paul. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He lived in California. He married Betty Murray on Nov. 1, 1945. He returned to Minnesota, where he began farming.

She is survived by his wife; a son, William (Donna), Stephen; daughters, Sandra (Mark) Rasmussen, Moorhead, Anita (Wayne) Knoll, Stephen, and Myrna (Howard) Olson, Fort Worth, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and brothers, Charles (Leatrice), and Leonard (Virginia), both of Stephen.

She was preceded in death by a grandson; and a sister, Hazel Welsh.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, First Presbyterian Church, Stephen.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the church.

Burial: Stephen Cemetery (Adamson-Austin, Stephen).

Kenneth Visness

KARLSTAD, Minn. -- Kenneth Visness, 83, Karlstad, formerly of Kennedy, Minn., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Kenneth P. Visness was born Aug. 11, 1915, the son of Theodore and Eline (Lyngstad) Visness, in Teien Township, Kittson County, Minn. He attended school in South Red River Township, Kittson County. He married Gladys Andeen on Nov. 2, 1941, in Teien Township, where they lived and farmed. He worked for Olson Motors, Kennedy. In 1967, they moved to Kennedy, and in 1977, they retired from farming. In 1998, he moved to Karlstad. Gladys Visness died July 13, 1977.

He is survived by sons, Harold (Carol), Rosemont, Minn., Kent (Mary Jo), Apple Valley, Minn., Ronald (Carol), Hallock, Minn., and Terry (Barbara), Drayton, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Mitz, Drayton; and a brother, Stanley, Drayton.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Skjeberg Lutheran Church, Drayton.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Drayton.

Burial: Church cemetery.
