Sherman Hogenson

FERTILE, Minn. -- Sherman Hogenson, 60, Fertile, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at home.

Sherman Luther Hogenson was born Nov. 15, 1937, the son of Ole and Hilma (Rotnes) Hogenson, in Winger, Minn. He grew up and graduated from Fertile-Beltrami (Minn.) High School in 1957. He worked for Ed Varneson. He furthered his education at Hanson Mechanic School, Fargo. He worked in Minneapolis, Hillsboro, N.D., Fosston, Minn., and Grand Forks. He married Shirley Lange on Nov. 17, 1961, in Minneapolis. He returned to Fertile in the fall of 1967. In 1972, he started his own mechanic shop.

He is survived by sons, Shayne (Lisa), St. Cloud, Minn., and Shannon (Lowrie), Fargo; a daughter, Shawn (Tim) Thibert, Crookston; two grandchildren; brothers, Orvin, Winger, Minn., Arlin, Fairbanks, Alaska, Marvin, Dixon, Ill., and Ray, Hollywood, Calif.; and sisters, Helen Svenby, North Field, Minn., and Lorine Blair, Corona, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 6 p.m. prayer service, in Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile.

Thorbjorn 'Tubby' Hanson

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Thorbjorn "Tubby" Hanson, 82, formerly of Roseau, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, in Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, Man.

Thorbjorn Gustav Hanson was born Sept. 28, 1915, the son of Johan Arndt and Christine Marie (Vistad) Hanson, in Roseau, where he attended school. He married Ruby Henry in 1941 in Grand Forks. They moved to Long Beach, Calif., where he worked for Douglas Aircraft Co. They moved to Roseau, where he farmed and owned T.G. Hanson Installation. Ruby Hanson died in 1966. He moved to the West Coast and then returned to Roseau in the mid-1970s. He married Cleta Powell Morgan in 1979. They lived in South Junction, Man., where they farmed until retiring.

He is survived by his wife, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; a son, T. Dale (Thea), Albuquerque, N.M.; daughters, Joanne (Robert) Kaiser, Mountain Lake, Minn., Carol Bruinsma, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Ruby Jean (Richard) Scott, Sacramento, Calif., and June Hanson (Robert John Steffen) Lake Geneva, Wis.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Furuseth, Thief River Falls, and Ruth Alexander, Mineola, Texas; and a brother, Ervin, Vancouver, Wash.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert; brothers, James and Arndt; and a sister, Albie.

Services: Will be held in the spring (Helgeson, Roseau).

Audrey Carl

STEPHEN, Minn. -- Audrey Carl, 73, Stephen, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at home.

Audrey Jane Rasmussen was born June 11, 1924, the daughter of Lawrence and Agnes (Torgerson) Rasmussen, in Stephen, where she attended school. She worked in Stephen and Warren, Minn. She married James Carl on Nov. 20, 1949, in Minneapolis. They made their home in Stephen, where she worked in the area.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Peggy Jo (Gilbert) Ziemer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, Donald, Roseau; two grandsons; her mother, Agnes "Peggy" Acker, Warren; and a brother, James, Austin, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Services: 4 p.m. Friday, First Lutheran Church, Stephen.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Stephen City Cemetery (Adamson-Austin, Stephen).

Oel Anderson

GREENBUSH, Minn. -- Oel Anderson, 90, Greenbush, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, in Greenbush Nursing Home, where he had lived the past few years.

Oel Anderson was born Oct. 28, 1907, the son of Ole and Mary (Ellingson) Anderson, in Ellendale, Minn. At the age of 9, he moved with his family to Greenbush. He married Marie DeRaad on Nov. 25, 1933, in Greenbush. They farmed near Greenbush, until moving to town in 1957. He worked at Jeff's Super Service and also worked road construction before retiring. Marie Anderson died April 28, 1995.

He is survived by a son, Odeen (Dorothy), Lake Bronson, Minn.; daughters, Clydene (Curtiss) Johnson, Strathcona, Minn., and Marlene (Lester) Johnson, Moorhead; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Merlin; a grandson; five brothers; and six sisters.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Bethel Lutheran Church, Greenbush.

Visitation: After 5 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Gieseke Funeral Chapel, Greenbush, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Bethel Lutheran Cemetery.

Donald Erickson

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Donald Erickson, 76, Roseau, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, in Roseau Area Hospital.

Donald Levern Erickson was born Nov. 4, 1921, the son of Erick and Betty (Nelson) Erickson, in Stafford Township, Roseau County, where he attended school. He worked on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1945 to February 1947. He returned to the family farm in Roseau. In 1963, he began working for Polaris Industries. He retired in 1984.

He is survived by a brother, Art, Roseau; sisters, Dorothy Kjallberg, Roseau, and Ellen Snell, Billings, Mont.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie; a half brother, Ralph; and half sisters, Agnes, Dora and Lulu.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, First Baptist Church, Roseau.

Visitation: Noon to 7 p.m. today, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Malung Cemetery, Roseau.

A. Josephine Nordine

BAUDETTE, Minn. -- A. Josephine Nordine, 90, Baudette, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, in Lakewood Health Center, Baudette.

Anna Josephine Osied was born July 30, 1907, the daughter of Lars and Jorgine (Hildahl) Osied, in Badger, Minn. She moved with her family to Roosevelt, Minn. She married William Nordine on Aug. 25, 1931, in Baudette. They lived in several area towns before moving to a farmstead north of Roosevelt. William Nordine died in 1979. In 1985, she moved to Roosevelt. In 1988, she moved to Baudette, and to Lakewood Care Center in 1993.

She is survived by sons, Clifford (Carole), Roosevelt, and John "Bill" and Morry (Joyce), both of Baudette; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence, Scottsdale, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter; sisters, Pauline Brohaugh, Agnes Mason, and Louise Elmquist; and brothers, Knute, Albert, Adolph, Theodore and Luverne.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, First Lutheran Church, Baudette.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Helgeson Funeral Home, Baudette, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Silent City Cemetery, Roosevelt.

Louise Larson

ARGYLE, Minn. -- Louise Larson, 92, Argyle, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at New Horizon Adult Foster Home, Frazee, Minn.

Louise Storbakken was born Jan. 5, 1906, the daughter of Amund and Thora (Hanson) Storbakken, in Oak Park Township, Marshall County, Minn. She lived in Oslo, Minn. She married Markus Larson in 1943, in Oslo. They lived near Argyle, where they farmed. In 1961, they moved into Argyle. Markus Larson died March 4, 1973. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Good Samaritan Center.

She is survived by children, Mildred Hefta, Roy, Wash., Arden, Cedar, Minn., and Marvin, Frazee; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Ruth Hallin, East Grand Forks.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Ingvald, Albert, Anton, Melvin, Conrad, Helmer, Hjalmer, William, Tillman, Hildus, Ralph, Noble and Edgar; and a sister, Tina.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Argyle.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, Minn., and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Argyle.

Krist Kleven

ANGLE INLET, Minn. -- Krist Kleven, 42, Angle Inlet, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at the Northwest Angle.

Krist Mathew Kleven was born Jan. 17, 1956, the son of Howard and Shirley (Kling) Kleven, in Warroad, Minn., where he attended school. In 1966, he moved to Minneapolis with his mother and in 1968, he moved to Baudette, Minn., and later lived in various other towns in northern Minnesota where he worked as a carpenter. In 1974, he moved to Angle Inlet and lived with his father. He was a guide for hunting and fishing, built furniture and worked construction.

He is survived by his daughter, Melanie Sandy, Angle Inlet; his mother, Coon Rapids, Minn.; a sister, Lynn Kleven Ford, Angle Inlet; and brothers, Jon, Minneapolis, Aaron, Angle Inlet, and Mark, France.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Lukes Church, Angle Inlet.

Paul Glick

WILTON, Minn. -- Paul Glick, 78, Wilton, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at home.

Paul Wesley Glick was born June 19, 1920, the son of Harley and Daisy (Richmond) Glick, in Bemidji. He lived in Harley Lake, Eckles Township, Beltrami County, Minn., where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to Bemidji. He lived in Maryland, where he worked in an aspirin factory. He moved to Wilton, where he trapped and worked in the woods before retiring in 1983.

He is survived by a sister, Jessie Platt, Solway, Minn.; and a half brother, Rubin (Carolyn) Brooks, Nashville, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Daniel, David and Phillip; and a sister, Ester.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Jones Township Cemetery.

George Brown Jr.

RED LAKE, Minn. -- George Brown Jr., 37, Red Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in Red Lake Hospital.

George James Brown Jr. was born Jan. 5, 1961, the son of George Sr. and Virginia (Nelson) Brown, in Red Lake, where he attended school. He did commercial fishing and Indian craft work in Red Lake.

He is survived by his mother, Gonvick, Minn.; sisters, Ruth (Peter) Walton, Gully, Minn., and Barbara Brown, Red Lake; a brother, William, Red Lake; and his grandmother, Gertrude Morgan, Red Lake.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, James; and a sister, Karen.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Little Rock Community Center, Red Lake.

Visitation: Noon Saturday until time of services in the community center.

Burial: St. John's Episcopal Cemetery, Red Lake (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).

Olene Nisbet

Olene Nisbet, 83, Minneapolis, formerly of East Grand Forks, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, in Bywood East Health Care Center, Minneapolis.

Olene Sordahl was born Jan. 22, 1915, the daughter of Osmund and Anna Sordahl, in Climax, Minn. She grew up near Fisher and Bygland, Minn. She married Harold Nisbet in Fisher. They lived in East Grand Forks. Harold Nisbet died Sept. 19, 1990.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith (Richard) Johnson, Davison, Mich.; sons, Ronald (Phyllis), Fridley, Minn., Bruce, New Hope, Minn., and John (Marilyn), East Grand Forks; six grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, Sept. 19, 1990; a sister, Bernice; and a brother, Oscar.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, East Grand Forks.

Visitation: 2 hours before services in the church.

Burial: Nisbet Cemetery, (Stennes, East Grand Forks).
